Join me in this episode as I detail how to complete a mid-year review and plan for the next six months. You deserve the investment of your time to make life the best it can be.

Take some time to create some space to get quiet and grounded and consider your thoughts on the following:

  • Tune into your body. How do you feel right now?
  • What are you most proud of from the past 6 months?
  • What has felt in alignment, and what has felt out of alignment?
  • Have you focused on the things you said were most important at the start of the year?

For the rest of year’s planning, reflect on these questions:

  • What are your focus areas and priorities for the next 6 months?
  • What is the one goal you most want to achieve?
  • What one change could you make that would have the greatest impact on your wellbeing?
  • How do you want to feel on December 31st?
  • How can you align your time and energy to align with the above?

Are you waiting for something to happen? Are you leaving things until ‘later’? Are you keeping your ‘good things’ for later? Why? Start living well and enjoying life today.

The last couple of months have been taken up with health issues and coming to terms with conditions which despite living a healthy lifestyle, I have little control over because of genetics. At least I know where I stand and if I hadn’t been living a healthy lifestyle, things could have been so much worse.

I mulled over the word Determined and came up with my ideas of who I am based on each letter. I am also determined to live will and enjoy life (my tagline) despite having to make some tweaks health wise.

I’ve also just completed another year around the Sun and at 66 I am determined to make the most of each day, with enthusiasm and zest.

How do you cope with life’s challenges?

We all have them and sometimes they can come out of left field.

Last week was my birthday. I have been 66 years around the Sun - Wow! After a few months of health issues, my birthday gift was spending time at the cardiologist's rooms for a Stress Test. I received some great news from my stress test, the results were good, however, I won't be able to rely on just living a healthy lifestyle thanks to genetics. I’m am allowed to start running again which I’m very happy about.

Where has the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast been?

I've not published any new podcasts for a few weeks due to ill health. My scheduled interviewees were very supportive and understanding as I explained I was having to 'press the pause button' on the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast for a time.

In this Episode I provide an update on where I have been, where I'm at now and where I'm going. I discuss:

  • the frustration of not being allowed to run or do any strenuous exercise for about 8 weeks.
  • the frustration of being diagnosed with heart disease despite living a very healthy lifestyle
  • how daily walks which have my mental health as well as keeping physically fit.
  • how a positive mindset is vital when facing life's challenges - whether big or small.

Life is difficult for everyone and we all face challenges. The key to coping is our mindset and how we look at things. For me, keeping a positive mindset is vital. It’s how you look at things. For me it was accepting the health results but also realising that they could have been so much worse if I hadn’t been living a healthy lifestyle.

Do you ever take time to reminisce about growing up. Where you lived, your neighbourhood, your childhood memories?

We all have a story we could tell and my guest today, J.M. Phillip shares her story of growing up in South East London in the '60s. Jill is the author of Lamlash Street: A Portrait of 1960's Post-War London Through One Family’s Story is a heartfelt historical memoir. If you like non-stereotypical female characters, working-class endurance, and rallying from abundant loss, then you’ll adore Jill Phillips’ moving recollection.

Explore a world that can’t be visited anymore—South East London, 1963.

On Lamlash Street, Cockney families have more life and character than money, living among the bombed out and condemned buildings. Post WWII London will evolve swiftly into the era of The Beatles, Twiggy, and modern, swinging London.

Experience the lively true story of a girl on her way to being a young woman, coming-of-age at a moment in London’s history unlike any other. It’s a time when a local factory shutting down could mean families torn apart and relying on questionable yet quirky neighbors as they find inventive ways to survive the trauma of the past.

Why is it that some people seem happier than others? Are they born happy, or have they made a practice of it? Evidence from the emerging science of happiness tells us that although genetics account for 50% of our happiness quotient, 40% comes as a result of our personal choices (with life circumstances accounting for the other 10%.).

The best choices can be difficult to make, though, when we are barraged by all the stressors in our day to day lives- stressors that can make it all too easy for our mind to start distorting our reality if we don’t take command of our thoughts.

How to take command of troubling thoughts? Exercise your happiness muscle in the Gymnasium of the Mind.

We hear that you need a Village to raise a child but that is also true for people of any age.

Studies indicate that 1 in 5 Americans always or often feel lonely or socially isolated, and the adverse effects of loneliness reportedly become more debilitating the older we get. According to Caregiver Resources, there has been an upward trend in elderly isolation in the past 5 years; the ramifications include cognitive decline, depression, and immune deficiency.

Lost in seclusion, older folks—especially those who have lost a spouse, live alone, or suffer from declining mobility—seem to be having trouble connecting again. Without directions, many cannot seem to find their way back to their “village.”

Where are the directions to the village?! Where is the instruction manual?!

In this episode of the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast, my guest is Florence Ann Romano, a personal growth strategist and author of Build Your Village: A Guide to Finding Joy & Community in Every Stage of Life.

During the interview we discussed:

· The importance of a village for older folks experiencing isolation—a support system for our physical, mental, and emotional health.

· Redefining your village after the loss of a spouse.

· The 6 types of villagers needed for a fully functioning village—their qualities and characteristics.

· How to identify potential villagers & senior-friendly connection ideas.

· Being part of a village is as much give as take. How to foster the villager qualities within yourself.

· The importance of a primary as well as a secondary village, and the overlap between the two.

Negotiating isn’t easy. And for countless women, it’s exponentially harder. If you come across as fired up and assertive, you’ll face backlash from people who label you as unlikable, unhirable, intimidating, or bossy. If you’re amenable or meek, the negotiation falls apart. It’s no wonder 60% of women haven’t negotiated issues like workplace pay—at all.

But “negotiation” doesn’t have to be a trigger word that’s avoided, says an acclaimed author-expert. Science reveals proven strategies that can help women get what they want.

For decades, society, our families, communities, the internet, and the media have dictated how women should behave, negotiate, and relate to other people, and we, as women, have internalized these stories, whether they fit or not, says Beth Fisher-Yoshida, author of the new book New Story, New Power: A Woman’s Guide to Negotiation(Bold Story Press; January 23, 2023).

Though the world around us is rapidly changing, the antiquated stories about “how women should be” have not. By dumping this cultural baggage and writing a new story, women will strengthen their resolve and negotiation acumen—and get fast results.

Pulling from 30-plus years of negotiation research and practice, Fisher-Yoshida offers no-nonsense negotiation strategies for women of all ages.

During the interview we discussed:

  • How to become aware of the stories you carry (and unearth where these stories came from)
  • What the newest research reveals about the brain, language, and emotions—and how they relate to women’s negotiating prowess
  • 5 foolproof strategies to advocate for what you want at home and in the workplace
  • How to successfully negotiate in uncomfortable situations and challenging environments

BETH FISHER-YOSHIDA, PH.D., CCS, is a global expert and educator in intercultural negotiation and communication. She’s the program director of Columbia University’s Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, a negotiation consultant for the United Nations, and the CEO of the consulting agency Fisher Yoshida International. She works in the U.S. and worldwide, conducting workshops on leadership, culture, workplace conflict, and negotiation, and boasts a client list that includes Fortune 100 companies, nonprofits, military and security forces, governments, NGOs, and educational institutions. Her new book, New Story, New Power: A Woman’s Guide to Negotiation(Bold Story Press; January 23, 2023), helps women of all ages make successful negotiations a reality.

Allison Liu, a brain health coach and expert in helping women to reclaim their mental sharpness and improve their energy and mood, struggled with brain fog and panic attacks in her early 50s. Forgetting what she was saying in the middle of saying it, finding it hard to express herself and feeling increasingly irritable, she felt she was losing her sense of self. Adopting a science-based approach, which she uses with her clients today, she increased her own ‘brain reserve’, improving her memory, mood and relationships. She now coaches women in their 40s and beyond to achieve the same so that they can handle life’s challenges with ease, face the future with confidence, and fully engage in life at work and at home. Boundaries, that’s the topic of this week’s episode of the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast. Setting boundaries is healthy but for many of us we feel guilty saying ‘no’ or putting ourselves and needs first.

My guest today is the energetic, Susie Pettit founder of Strength: Mind & Body. Susie Pettit has been helping women live lives they love for over 20 years. She is the podcast host of the Love Your Life Show, offers the super successful Parenting Teens Survival Course and runs a monthly membership for Midlife Warriors. She is a certified Parent, Life + Wellness Coach and a mom of 5 sons ages 18-25.

Susie is passionate about helping women live lives that feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside. She spent more than half her life living a life she did not love; as a people pleaser and codependent perfectionist. She reflects that it’s as if she was trying to win an award for ‘Martyr of the Year’.

Luckily she hit rock bottom and now has the breadth of experience to teach first hand about setting healthy boundaries, beating your inner critic, conscious parenting, and how to use mindfulness-based tools to beat overwhelm and anxiety. She uses two foundational frameworks: Her 5 Pillars of Wellness and the Thought Model.

The new documentary film “An Unimportant Girl” is the remarkable story of Vivianne Knebel’s journey from despair to gratitude. Based on her memoir, "From Rubble To Champagne,” which has been featured in both the local and national media, “An Unimportant Girl” tells Vivianne’s story. Born illegitimate in 1943 in the epicenter of Nazi power, Berlin, Germany, Vivianne’s free-spirited and strong-willed mother, Marija, fought to keep her alive among falling bombs and Soviet attacks. After the end of World War II, with much of Berlin razed to the ground, Vivianne came to know poverty and constant hunger. As a teenager, she immigrated to Canada, but in her new homeland, times became so desperate that she had to beg for money to eat. After dropping out of school to find work, Vivianne became the victim of sexual harassment. Spiraling into depression, she attempted to take her life but was miraculously saved by a six-year-old child. “An Unimportant Girl,” tells a story of challenges overcome and a life fully lived.

Menopause is a hot topic at the moment and it is great to see that women are starting to speak out about their experiences. There is so much more information and resources than when I went through this transition in life.

In this episode of the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast, my guest is Rachel Lankester, founder of Magnificent Midlife and author of Magnificent Midlife: Transform Your Middle Years, Menopause & Beyond.

I recently read, Rachel’s book and wished that she had written it when I was experiencing perimenopause. Her book is a combination of her story plus extensive research, Rachel has undertaken to provide the reader with practical and easy to understand advice on coping with the big ‘M’.

The good news is that the transformation from pre to post menopause can be an exciting time of life, despite the hot flushes & mood swings and loss of libido.

Rachel’s book is not just for women in perimenopause but there is valuable information on life after Menopause, how to age well and making the most of this Magnificent time of life.

During the conversation Rachel and I discussed:

  • Her experience of a diagnosis of menopause at the age of 41
  • Overcoming the negativity and cultural attitudes to menopause and aging.
  • Messaging matters
  • The importance of being informed and staying curious- not just you but your partner
  • Natural ways to live with menopause
  • Sex and Relationships
  • Mindset
  • Rachel’s top 5 strengths

I’ve been doing a health and wellness challenge with some friends and we have been documenting our progress. We have realised that being focused on certain aspects of our health each week has made us more mindful of how we are looking after ourselves. We have documented what exercise we have done and the time exercising, what we are eating, what we are doing for ‘time out’, how much water we are drinking. We then check in with each other and share our highs and lows for the week – no judgement.

For this week’s episode I’m sharing my 3 ‘A’s to maintaining a Health & Wellness Routine for Life.

We all know that we need to do certain things to stay healthy and fit enough to enjoy life and also maintain independence as we age. We need to be able to cope with daily living and now that the world has opened up many are making travel plans. But will you be fit enough to do all that you want to do?

It’s simple really – the hardest part is making the commitment and getting started.

Do you know your personal fashion style? Are you comfortable with your ‘look’ or is your wardrobe full of clothes you have never worn? Today’s episode on the Women Living Well After 50 Podcst, is all about Fashion and creating Personal Style. My guest is Jan Wild from Retiring, Not Shy!. I’ve known Jan for several years and admire her fashion style especially looking at her ideas on Instagram.

During the conversation we discussed:

  • How Jan became a model in her 60s
  • Developing our personal style especially when our lifestyle changes
  • Creating a personal style with ‘basics’ – read Jan’s blog post: How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe for Midlife & Beyond
  • Throwing out the fashion rules for Women Over 50
  • How getting up and dressing for the day is a form of self-care
  • Finding self-confidence through weekly planning what you will wear

Jan Wild is a blogger, social media content creator and silver haired model, all of which she has come to in her 60s. Her blog started in frustration that the online world only covered retirement from the financial perspective rather than the mental and emotional aspects. Over time those aspects have been more broadly covered and Jan is now more finely focussed on personal style and travel, and the intersection of those two - packing for travel - as well as the importance of personal style for one's mental and emotional health and confidence.

Poo! It is part of our body’s functions yet do you know that examining your Poo could save your life?

Poo is one of the best indicators of what is happening in our digestive system. It can tell us how well we are chewing and if we are chewing properly to breakdown the foods we eat. Are we feeding our gut bacteria the right sort of foods to make them thrive and be healthy? Is our gut environment conducive to keeping gut bacteria thriving and doing the jobs they are meant to do?

My guest on the Women Living Well After 50 podcast today is Ange Sinclair, the Digestive Detective who is on a mission to have us all ‘looking back’ and examining the health messages our poo is sending us. In this episode we discuss:

  • knowing what the 'Perfect Poo'is and what health related messages our Poo can tell us.
  • red flags that we should take immediate action on
  • how much fibre we really need
  • Bowel movements - How often should we be going to the bathroom?
  • What other things should we know in relation to poo when it comes to our health.
  • Ange's 'Perfect Poo' Program.

Take Ange's 'Perfect Poo Checklist' Quiz, that will give you an idea of where you should probably go next and what to do.

Ange Sinclair is the Digestive Detective. As a Naturopath she helps women purge the pain, beat the bloat and get to the root causes of their digestive issues by educating and empowering them to be their own Digestive Detective.

For the last 10 years Ange has been actively engaged in helping the community with their digestive issues through nutrition, herbal medicine and supplementation.

What is a limb dweller? Sometimes it's lonely, sometimes it's windy and sometimes it's scary but what a view!

  • How women can and should take control of the last half of their lives
  • Our personal values and how they affect our lives and decision making

Life has certainly been challenging for everyone, especially over the last few years. We’ve had to deal with the COVID pandemic, bushfires, the recent floods in Queensland and NSW as well as coping with news of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The media has also reported three deaths in a week of prominent Australians – Kimberley Kitching, (52) a senator in the Australian Parliament, Rod Marsh (73) and Shane Warne (52) both huge names in the world of cricket. A wake up call to all of us that life can be cut short by heart attack.

I’ve had a couple of conversations with friends and we all agree that we feel guilty, because our lives are going well, yet others are experiencing devastation.

In this week’s Micro Monday’s episode I discuss the importance of overcoming our ‘guilt’ when life is going well and we see that for others life is devastating. During the episode I share ways to

  • Find the balance between feeling empathy for others and still recognising the good things that you are experiencing
  • Resilience
  • Take that moment every day to find good in our life to maintain good mental health and wellbeing
  • Celebrate the good moments despite all that is happening around us
  • How showing kindness and support to others can help you

Listen to my thoughts and I’d love to hear your comments.

How are you feeling at the moment? Are you robbing yourself of personal joy because you feel guilty?

What are you doing today to make the most of this day?

How do you start and finish your day?

We know that our first thoughts and actions set us up for the day. If we start the day on a negative note then it can be difficult for it to improve without a lot of effort. A negative text, email, thought or conversation at the start of our day means we start with reaction rather than with an intention. So we are already behind the 8 ball.

If we finish our day stressed and anxious we definitely won’t sleep well.
This week’s episode of Micro Mondays is all about “Book-ending your day to be who you want to be“. I hadn’t heard this term before but basically it is akin to having a morning and evening ritual.

On today's Micro Mondays Podcast episode I'm sharing with you what makes up my Self-Care Routine and it isn't just about facials (although who doesn't love a good pampering session?)

Self-care for me means:

  • looking after my body, inside and out
  • taking care of my mental and spiritual health
  • practising gratitude daily
  • practising mindfulness - living in the 'now' not looking back or yearning for the future
  • helping others - brings me a sense of satisfaction and joy
  • knowing my boundaries - being able to say 'No' when I need to and 'Yes' when I can
  • my attitude to life - trying to keep a positive outlook and a 'can do' attitude
  • accepting 'me' and loving who I am - the most important part of my Self-Care

Dating after 50 can be a daunting prospect. My next guest in conversation decided to undertake a research project and has recently published her book Fifty First Dates After 50.

*After Carolyn Lee Arnold, a free-spirited, 50-something longing for a life partner, breaks up with her non-committal Buddhist boyfriend (and holds a “letting go” ceremony to seal the deal), she challenges herself to go on 50 first dates during her search for a monogamous life partner. Set in the Bay Area world of personal growth workshops and spiritual ceremonies, this revealing memoir traces the adventurous path of Arnold’s universal quest for love. The goal of 50 dates with 50 different partners pulls her forward through the highs and lows of dating — magical and ecstatic, pining and painful — while her heart soars, falls, and keeps on going. Buoyed by her dating project, she avoids settling for the wrong guy and ultimately discovers the type of man she wants.

I recently wrote about my October Overhaul. I’m taking life a little slower as I examine what brings me joy and what I want to let go of what drains me of energy. We are in mid October and I’m still muddling about but that’s okay. I’ve made a start and sharing this with you in this post.

I haven’t recorded a Micro Mondays episode on the podcast for a few weeks and again, that’s fine. I did, however, record one this week because I felt I had something of value to share. Today’s episode is all about re-evaluating friendships and #bringingmorecolourintoyourlife both of which are important for self-care and well-being.

This quote I found on Facebook which I shared with my WLWA50 Facebook community. It resonated with me and gave me some direction for an area of my October Overhaul. Sunshine lifts our mood, so why not surround ourselves with people who are sunshine rather than cloudy skies?

From Crone to Creatrix, Author, Stephanie Raffelock, reclaims midlife and challenges ageist, sexist archetypes in her new memoir: Creatrix Rising - Unlocking the Power of Midlife Women.

In her new book, Stephanie Raffelock liberates mold-defying midlife women, tired of the oft-inaccurate characterization of the “old crone,” to amplify the resounding strength within.

During our conversation we discussed:

  • Reframing the conversation on aging and combating the stereotypes applied to aging women
  • Understanding aging as a remarkable and noble passage
  • Why it seems that society shames women as they age, how we can correct this "old crone" mischaracterization and change the conversation about women and aging -- We begin by embracing our years and seeing aging as the next great adventure
  • The emerging Creatrix archetype and the creative surge of midlife women that invites reinvention and reclamation
  • Well-known women who embody the Creatrix archetype -- Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, Meryl Streep, Twyla Tharp, Stacey Abrams, Jennifer Aniston and Kamala Harris
  • How her personal experiences informed the concepts in “Creatrix Rising” and how she incorporated stories of women in her family into this book -- Stephanie’s mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all had their own struggles and celebrations, and each of them influenced her ideals and ideas about being a woman
  • Her work to uplift women in her own community where she lives in Austin, Texas

Sometimes it takes a major event in our lives to make us reflect on where we are, where we want to be and what we want to do with the rest of our life. For many women, we wear several hats: career, partner, mother, daughter, sister, friend. We can soon lose sight of who we are as individuals, what our dreams are and even what we once enjoyed doing.

I know I felt this way and I’m sure many of you have too.

My guest today in Conversation on the Women Living Well After 50 podcast is Lou Hamilton, Creative Director at SILK STUDIOS Podcast Guest Agency, Podcast Host of Brave New Girl, BAFTA Filmmaker and Author. When Lou turned 50, she was two major events happened. She lost her grandmother and became an emptynester. These two events gave her pause to reflect and make some changes in her life.

In fact, Lou found that ‘everything got better from 50!’

During our conversation we discussed:

  • Why passion and purpose aren’t necessarily the same thing
  • The importance of ‘owning your time’
  • How to find a new path After 50
  • Being brave and taking the leap to try something new
  • Why ‘doing’ something in her own small world to help the planet has become a passion for Lou

On reflection I decided to make the topic for my Micro Mondays episode on the Women Living Well After 50 podcast, all about how we are use out time to live well and enjoy life.

It’s my 64th birthday today and a time for me to reflect how I’ve used my time so far and how I want to make the most of the time I have left on this earth.

I also reflect on the importance of making the most of time during lockdown which many are experiencing at the moment. Mental Health has become an issue and with this comes lack of clarity, not wanting to do anything and feelng ‘why bother’.

We all have the same number hours during the week. Time can be short and we can get caught up in life and let life slip by without us realising it.

Are you making the best use of your time to have a balanced and fulfilled life?

During the podcast I discuss easy ways to make the most of your time

  1. Have a plan including time for being spontaneous. This is important especially during life’s challenges as we lose clarity and find that one day flows into the next without us realising.
  2. Think about how you want to use your time in the future. Make a list of what you would like to do.
  3. Make time for nurturing yourself in mind, body and spirit – even times for a ‘doona’ day

In this week’s Micro Mondays episode on the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast, I’m focusing on reducing anxiety and stress through a short guided meditation.

Lockdown due to COVID is hitting hard and many are feeling heightened stress and anxiety. Life in general can be stressful. Today I’m taking you through a guided meditation to find calm. We will focus on a breathing exercise that you can do at anytime you are feeling stress. It is important to focus on your well-being and taking time out for yourself is important.

Some key points to remember about a breathing meditation:

  • Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed
  • Take time to get comfortable. Sit in a comfortable chair or lay on a mat.
  • Have a blanked nearby and perhaps light a candle for ambiance
  • Don’t worry if you can’t clear your mind of thoughts. Accept them and let them go by taking the focus to the BREATH
  • Don’t rush, give yourself up to the moment as you nurture your mind, body and spirit.

Do you meditate? What do you do when you are feeling stressed or anxious?

In this week’s episode of Micro Mondays I share my thoughts

  • on how to value yourself and be confident living life your way
  • why celebrating your successes are so important to building confidence and resilience
  • an exercise for you to recognise your value as a unique and wonderful woman and
  • a daily evening ritual based on your ‘small wins’

On August 1, 2020 I pressed the GO LIVE button on the Women Living Well After 50 Podcast. I’m celebrating my first anniversary of the podcast and over 10,000 downloads in the podcast. For someone who has always battled with self confidence (or lack of), I took a giant leap out of my comfort zone and I’m so pleased I did. I’m grateful to all of my listeners and ‘cheerleaders’ who have supported me and continue to support the podcast.

When a surprise arrives in the mail and makes your day. That’s what happened to me this week and I was so pleased to receive gift from my blogging friend Denyse from Denyse Whelan Blogs.

This gift and my relationship with Denyse sent me down the thought pattern of friendships, the type of friendships we develop in life and how we can be a positive influence on those we connect with.

Receiving this thoughtful gift reminded me that:

  • a thoughtful gift (no matter the size)can make someone’s day
  • a handmade gift means so much more than the most expensive gift
  • your actions can be a positive influence
  • creativity activity expands our mind and reduces stress and anxiety
  • how friendships and connection can be in person, online or a hybrid of both -and why each form of connection is of value

Stress on the Rise for Women

Though they report similar average stress levels, women are more likely than men to report that their stress levels are on the rise. They are also much more likely than men to report physical and emotional symptoms of stress.

My guest in conversation is Rachelle Ballard Clayton a qualified health, movement & wellbeing coach & her mission is to help women truly understand their amazing and unique body throughout their life transitions.

Rachelle’s philosophy is one of a holistic view. Our body is intricately connected as a whole and sometimes, somewhere along the line we can lose the ability to really tune into our own physical & emotional needs. Teaching simple, quick health & wellbeing strategies to integrate into women’s lives is something she is passionate about.

In this episode I'm starting a new monthly episode of Micro Mondays.  I want to put the focus on a Monthly Life Plan Review and Planning session.  Having a monthly life plan and review enables you to work towards your goals and make your dreams a reality.  It's about connecting with what is happening in your life and whether it still aligns with your core values or your Word Of the Year theme if you have one.

Reviewing regularly will show you where you are placing your energy. It identifies  what isn't serving you well and depleting you of energy.  You can then let go of the negative elements in your life which are dragging you down.

Comparison with others - it's a trap we all fall into but one that can definitely be detrimintal to our mental health and well-being. In this week's Micro Mondays episode on the Women Living Well After 50 podcast, I discuss the topic of comparison and ways we can avoid falling into the comparison trap.

Comparison is a trap that affects our mental well-being

  • it affects our self confidence and self esteem
  • it messes with our mind and
  • the effect of social media and the 'perfect life' social posts
  • it convinces us we are not worthy or we aren't as capable or beautiful or successful

Reclaiming Life – I recently wrote a blog post Become an Explorer and discover your true self. As women we represent many different roles in life such as partner, mother, career, grandparent, friend, daughter, sister, to name a few. This can really confuse our true identity and because we are busy wearing all of these hats, we can lose sight of who we are as an individual.

“Do not let the roles you play in life make you forget who you are.”

Roy T.Bennett

I’m delighted today to introduce my next guest in conversation, Dr Catherine Hansen to discuss the principles behind Reclaiming Life with a focus on mid-life women’s wellness.

In the Interview, Dr Hansen and I discussed:

  1. Where do we start in our journey to reclaim our life?
  2. What questions women ask you to help them live the life they want during peri and post menopause
  3. Advice for women experiencing Intimacy and Sexual pain
  4. Sleep and Stress - tips on how to improve sleep or reduce stress
  5. The Empowered Women’s circle
  6. The 5-week Reclaim Your Life course
  7. What being a Woman Living Well After 50 means to Catherine

Are you retired? Are you planning retirement? Are you living you life on your terms or by the expectations of others? This is what we are talking about in today’s episode of Conversations with Women Living Well After 50.

I’m delighted to discuss the topic of Overcoming Expectations and Stereotypes in Retirement with my guest, Maria Paterakis, The Future Proofing Counsellor and Mentor. Maria was a previous guest in Season 1 Episode 8, discussing the benefits of connecting with your life purpose. If you missed the episode, you can listen to HERE.

During our conversation we discussed:

  • Asking the question: 'Why do you want to retire?'
  • Understanding how retirement can box us in
  • Making your retirement a life you want and not what you are told you should be doing
  • The importance of knowing your life purpose
  • The definition of 'purposing'
  • The difference between joy and happiness
  • What is conditional dreaming?
  • Hear 'what being a woman living well' means to Maria

Maria has a background in Psychology, and for over 25 years has been dedicated to supporting people and communities to connect with their potential, build their resilience and live with confidence and purpose.

In her counselling and mentoring business she has created a system for Future Proofing 4 Life. She has seen first hand how knowing your purpose can change the trajectory of your life. With her own purpose in mind, she started a second business in marketing, working with her sister and bringing together their combined skills of marketing and psychology. She believes that potential never ends, only the way we view our potential.

Access to Sanitary products is a right not a privilege.  Periods are a normal part of a woman’s life yet many women in Australia who are in poverty or homeless can’t even afford the basic sanitary needs such as pads and tampons. Can you believe that?  Can you accept that?

I’m delighted to introduce Rochelle Courtenay, Share the Dignity’s founder, Managing Director and the title she is most proud of though is ‘Pad Lady’. Rochelle has led a team of volunteers collecting around 2.5 million sanitary products across Australia.
