Raising New Yorkers is a podcast and community that equips moms to raise kids in a city that's next level hard: from cost of living, education, transportation, and work life balance. Through first hand experiences and interviews, Moms will get to hang with us while we seek the good of the city and foster that in our children.
For our season 2 finale, we thought it'd be beneficial to unpack the episodes from the Education Series with you all. For this series we invited 5 very different moms who either work at a school in NYC, has a child that currently attends a NYC school, or home schooled their children here for multiple years. Each episode was completely different in terms of knowledge base, perspective, and experience. We're extremely thankful that we were able to get such a diverse group of moms to discuss the complexities of NYC schools. Devyn has lived in New York City for well over a decade and is a proud mom to two elementary aged kids who currently attend an independent school. She does a really good job sharing how she ended up choosing this type of school since she herself grew up going to public school. This conversation is an interesting one because Devyns job at the time gave her access to many types of schools. In this episode, we chat with Sam Hawley about her journey to adoption, the process of adoption, transracial adoption, and everything in between! Today we sit down with Elizabeth Passarella to discuss her recent book “Good Apple: Tales of a Southern Evangelical in New York”. Elizabeth is a contributing editor for Southern Living and a former editor at Real Simple and Vogue. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and has lived in NYC for over 20 years.
We discuss how she wrote the book, a little bit about politics and her struggle with yelling. Elizabeth lives in New York City with her husband and three children.
