The Paulcast is back! The sixth episode has me speaking with a friend who I've long, long wanted an excuse to podcast with. Kaja Sadowski is one of the co-owners of Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly (the home of Big Gay Sword Day), an author and a martial arts coach, among a great many other things. They are also an experienced coach in everything from historical martial arts to boxing, the perfect person to speak to about gender in sports and martial arts. In a wide-ranging discussion, Kaja talks about why we separate sports and martial arts by gender and if we even should, as well as how a genderless future for such things might work. We also discuss why the best training practices are the most inclusive, as well as what might be keeping marginalised people out of so many sports, why fighting sexism is so complex an issue and even why old fencing manuals might be like Facebook pages. The fourth PaulCast interview is something very different and very special, as I speak with Prince Michael of Sealand about the sometimes rough and contentious history of this curious and fascinating micronation, the realities of living out at sea and whether he feels like he's really royalty.
Sealand is something I've long wanted to talk about, so it was a real pleasure and the fulfillment of a long-held personal ambition to be able to have this conversation. It was nothing like what I expected, being both much more casual than I anticipated, as well as much more British. My thanks to Prince Michael for his time.

The third PaulCast interview is a real indulgence for me, as I get to speak with composer and sound designer Ryan Ike about everything from what his favourite sound is to how video game music might be keeping the orchestra alive. Ryan has written a very wide variety of music for a host of games, including Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, Gunpoint and Frog Fractions 2. He's twice been nominated for BAFTA Games Awards for his work on Gunpoint and that's his music you'll hear through the episode. Except for a short Mass Effect interlude. And the goose. The goose is not his. I repeat: Ryan is not responsible for the goose.

The second episode of the new Paulcast sees me turning the microphone on political commentator and talk show host John Iadarola, famous for his work on the news show The Young Turks and for The Damage Report. John is much more likely to be the interviewer, after thousands of hours of political coverage and commentary, but now we get to talk to the man behind the microphone about everything from how how politics saved his college degree, to the nature of modern political audiences and what needs to change in American political coverage, or even American politics itself.

As promised, this debut episode features adventure cartoonist, artist and speaker Lucy Bellwood and is heavily inspired by her wonderful, frank and emotional XOXO talk that I always reference, all about the realities of money and freelance life.
We talk about demystifying our jobs and ourselves, who we are versus what we’re known for, and what it’s like to be honest about the money you make.
