In the sermon this week, Pastor Derek asks us what would it take for us to have the best year ever. Many of us would give a list of our required accomplishments. We would give our to-do lists and then believe we are in position once the to-do list is accomplished. However, we deceive ourselves when we ask what do we want to do before we ask, what do we want to be? Join us this week as we study the "excellent Spirit" that positions us.

This week we begin our new Sermon Series, The Best Year Ever by asking the question, "Want Your Usual?". This sermon is designed to help us think about the day-to-day habits that form our lives and direct our futures. We will be looking at the usuals that guided the life of Jesus for the duration of His ministry.

Any time the scripture says "teach us", it means this is something we can't gain on our own. We try to remove bad habits from our lives and we can't get there. We try make good decisions and we can't get there. In this week's message, we join with our brothers and sisters across the generations and pray, "teach me to count our days..."

The local church is the movement of a global community of faith, charged with communicating and continuing the ministry and the message of Jesus the Christ. There is no institution in the world that serves people like the local church. Not one institution gives people a road map for the love, character and nature of God, like the local Church. This week Derek is helping us answer the question, Why the Local Church?

In this week's sermon, we experience Jesus with the woman at the well. Her life is in shambles and the last thing she needs is to hear religious platitudes. In her moment with Jesus, she is seen, "Everything I have ever done!", and embraced. This week, Reverend Porter will walk us into this beautiful encounter and help us understand how it shows us that as disciples of Jesus, we can always be people who are rooted in, "It will get better".

As we continue to live in this space of transition in our pastoral leadership Associate Pastor Dr. Jeff Ross looks at the transition from David to Solomon. Both were gifted leaders but gifted in different ways. Their personalities and character were a big part of what made them who they are. Those are intangibles that God used to shape and frame their ministries. They served different times with different needs in Israel's history.

As our church navigates a pastoral transition, Associate Pastor Dr. Jeff Ross reflects on the biblical transition from Moses to Joshua. Though both were faithful leaders, God worked through each of them in unique ways. Rather than comparing leaders, this message encourages us to celebrate how the Holy Spirit guides God's people through different seasons. Ultimately, the mission of the church is not centered on any one personality, pastor, or leader, but on lifting up Jesus Christ and calling people to become His disciples.
