What is the Jersey Youth Parliament? Who are the members, who do they represent and how does it work?
Connecting Voices captures the journey of the Jersey Youth Parliament from start up to present day campaigns. Discover the work involved behind the scenes, hear from young people living in Jersey today and how they are actively engaging in making positive changes for the future.
Connecting Voices is planned and presented by the Jersey Youth Parliament members with production support from the Digital Leadership Programme at Digital Jersey.
JYP members, Cassie and Maria, meet Lesley Harrisson and Cheryl Hanlin from Autism Jersey to discuss all things Autism ahead of Autism acceptance Week on 27th March-2nd April. They talk about breaking down stereotypes, what life can be like for someone with an Autism Diagnosis and what support available.

JYP members Shrusti and Iza meet restaurant owner, Stephen Yu and artist, Theo Jenner to chat about the upcoming celebrations in Jersey for Lunar New Year. In it they discuss Asian traditions, food (lots of it) and how they will be celebrating Lunar New Year.

Meet the Chloe, Leala and Calista, members of Jersey’s new Youth Parliament. Victoria has just released a book: "The pocket sized not so fluffy guide to life for teens" and she shares lots of useful tips for how to manage stress, how to support friends and where to get help.

What is it like to grow up in Jersey as a black female?
Does racism exist in Jersey?
Ollie and Jemima meet Lesley Katsande from Black Lives Matter Jersey. Jemimah, born in Uganda and Lesley, born in Zimbabwe, share their experiences of being black women living in Jersey. They discuss issues of racism both blatant and in the form of micro-aggressions, as well as focusing on all the positive things about the black community.
Jemimah and Ollie are both on the education group of the youth parliament and are working towards making a more inclusive and diverse curriculum.

2016 saw the first CI Pride and since then the colourful festival has been hosted in both Guernsey and Jersey. This year, Jersey were due to host but this had to be abandoned due to COVID. However, the show must go on and CI Pride have organised a virtual Pride to come straight to your living rooms.
In this episode, Vanya, Lucas and Kim talk to CI Pride organiser Christian May. They discuss what Pride means to them, issues that LGBTQ+ people face in Jersey today and plans for this years virtual Pride.

Emily explains how one group have engaged with the Citizen’s Assembly on Climate Change. Oliver describes how some members are focussing on education by finding out about discrimination, identifying life skill gaps and how to promote student support. Other members have participated in the Children and Young People’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Strategy consultation and hope to bring positive changes for young islanders through their campaign work.
