Actor and comedian Sam Pancake sits down with friends famous and funny to discuss the surreal, silly and nonetheless star-studded made-for-TV movies of the 1970s. It's a loving look at baffling not-quite-feature-length flicks that often aren't on DVD and have largely been lost to time.
This week's show contains topics regarding eating disorders. Please be advised. Our movie of the week for this episode is Kate's Secret, orignally released in 1986. Joining Sam in studio today is Margee Magee. She has been a TV writer since 2010, working in all formats (multi-cam, single cam, animation, hybrid,… even muppets!) on all platforms (network, cable, and streaming). She has been staffed on numerous series, and has also sold, developed, and produced original projects, as well as series adapted from I.P. Prior to her TV writing career, Margee received her BFA in Musical Theater from The University of Michigan and went on to brief stints as a Radio City Rockette, an End-of-Life Doula, and proprietor of a bakery called hello cupcake! Continuing along that super linear career path, Margee became a member of The Groundlings, where she still teaches and performs.
Kate's Secret (1986) is a made-for-TV drama that tackled eating disorders long before they were widely discussed. Directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman, produced by Stephanie Austin and Robert A. Papazian, written by Susan Seeger and Denise DeGarmo, with music by J. Peter Robinson, the film stars Meredith Baxter, Ben Masters, Edward Asner, Tracy Nelson, Shari Belafonte, Georgann Johnson, Leslie Bevis, and Mackenzie Phillips.
Kate appears to have the perfect suburban life, but she's secretly struggling with bulimia. As hiding her illness becomes harder, the cracks in her carefully crafted image begin to show, forcing her family to face a problem they've never seen coming. The film focuses on the emotional toll of the disorder and Kate's difficult journey toward recovery.
Filmed in Southern California, the movie used its suburban locations to reinforce the illusion of a picture-perfect family. Meredith Baxter's performance was widely praised, and the film was considered unusually honest for network television in the 1980s, helping bring attention to eating disorders years before they became common subjects in film and TV.

This week on Monday Afternoon Movie, Sam Pancake is joined by the hilarious Michael Cyril Creighton. Michael is an award-winning actor, writer, and comedian best known for playing the lovable Howard Morris on Only Murders in the Building. Raised on Long Island and based in New York, he first gained attention with his Writers Guild Award-winning web series Jack in a Box before appearing in acclaimed projects including Spotlight, High Maintenance, American Fiction, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Together, they revisit the 1992 made-for-TV thriller A Woman Scorned. They will most certainly come to the conclusion that revenge is a dish best served cold.. and on network television. A Woman Scorned (1990) is a tense made-for-television thriller directed by Conrad Janis and written by Philip Rosenberg, with a suspenseful score by Dana Kaproff. The film stars Shannon Tweed, Andrew Stevens, Kim Morgan Greene, and Robin Strasser.
After a seemingly perfect marriage begins to unravel, a woman pushed to her emotional limits finds herself caught in a dangerous spiral of betrayal, obsession, and revenge. As secrets surface and tensions boil over, the conflict escalates into a high-stakes game of survival where the winner takes all.. and the loser just might be dead.

Note to isteners: this episode covers topics of sexual assualt and abuse. Discretion is advised. Joining Sam Pancake today is Katie O'Brien, an actress, writer, producer, and showrunner. With her comedy group, The Katydids, she co-created, wrote, executive-produced, and starred in TV Land's hit comedy Teachers, which ran for three seasons and fifty episodes. She went on to write and co-executive produce Disney+'s The Santa Clauses, starring Tim Allen. Most recently, she was the creator and showrunner of Tubi's first original scripted series, The Z-Suite, starring Lauren Graham and Nico Santos.
Based on the award-winning novel by Richard Peck, Are You in the House Alone? is a 1978 made-for-television thriller directed by Walter Grauman and adapted for the screen by writer Judith Parker. The film centers on Gail Osborne, played by Kathleen Beller, a bright and artistic high school student whose ordinary suburban life spirals into terror after she begins receiving anonymous threats from a mysterious stalker. What begins as unsettling notes in her locker and disturbing phone calls soon escalates into psychological torment, leaving Gail isolated and increasingly fearful that no place — not even her own home — is truly safe. Her parents, portrayed by Blythe Danner and Tony Bill, struggle to understand the growing horror surrounding their daughter as suspicion falls on several young men in her life, including a volatile character played by a young Dennis Quaid.
Unlike many sensationalized thrillers of the era, the film approaches its subject matter from a very grounded place, focusing less on graphic violence and more on the emotional devastation caused by fear and victimization. Director Walter Grauman, known for his work in television suspense dramas, gives the movie a stark realism that makes its moments of terror feel disturbingly plausible. The haunting score by composer Charles Bernstein — who would later score A Nightmare on Elm Street — heightens the atmosphere with an uneasy orchestra that underlines Gail's growing paranoia and helplessness. Produced for CBS during the height of late-1970s psychological thrillers, Are You in the House Alone? was filmed in several California locations, including the historic Ahmanson Mansion in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, scenes around Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, and John Burroughs Middle School in Los Angeles, which doubled as the movie's high school campus.

Our April Monday Afternoon Movie is taking us on a trip to the early 1990's and it sure is loaded with some big, dangerous names. Joining Sam Pancake today is fellow creator and podcast host, Stuart Ross. Stuart hosts Another Gay Podcast, and runs the Gay Horror Club.
Directed by Tobe Hooper and inspired by a story by Cornell Woolrich, I'm Dangerous Tonight (1990) is a supernatural horror thriller starring Mädchen Amick, Corey Parker, Anthony Perkins, R. Lee Ermey, and Dee Wallace.
Originally produced as a made-for-television film for the USA Network, it centers on a cursed ceremonial cloak discovered inside an ancient altar, a garment said to awaken the darkest instincts in anyone who wears it.
College student Amy O'Neill, already burdened by family responsibilities and caring for her elderly grandmother, unknowingly brings the evil into her life after purchasing a trunk from an estate sale connected to the artifact. Drawn to the blood-red fabric hidden inside, she transforms the mysterious cloak into a glamorous dress for a school dance. The moment it is worn, jealousy, desire, and violence begin to spread through everyone it touches.

Kowalski and starring Roy Thinnes, Yvette Mimieux, Ray Milland, Lynn Loring, and Gloria Grahame, is a haunting Western horror tale set in the classic backdrop of the desert frontier.
The story follows Reverend John Keyes (Thinnes), a struggling preacher, and his devoted wife Lorna (Mimieux), as they journey west in search of a new start. When their wagon breaks down, they are rescued by the residents of an isolated settlement known as San Melas. Welcomed with unexpected generosity, the couple finds temporary refuge among the town's inhabitants, including the quiet but alluring Deliverance (Loring) and the imposing patriarch Joseph (Milland).
As John begins preaching to the townspeople, his sermons are met with extreme enthusiasm, seemingly revitalizing both his faith and his sense of purpose. However, Lorna's health begins to mysteriously deteriorate, and subtle signs of unease creep into their new surroundings. Strange rituals and an almost hypnotic devotion among the townsfolk suggest that something far more sinister lies beneath their hospitality.

Just when you thought that Sam had covered all the troubled teen and young adult made-for-TV dramas, he comes at you with this ace up his sleeve about the dangers of gambling. Don't ask him to actually play any casino games though, as the only Kings and Queens he knows are the ones in drag. Joining Sam Pancake today is Tipper Newton, an actor, filmmaker, and musician. She is best known for her roles in The Mindy Project, The Guest Book, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She most recently starred in the clever film Fuck Your Son!, and plays shows with her band Color TV. Links below to dive deeper.
The Seduction of Gina (1984) is a made-for-TV drama directed by Jerrold Freedman that explores how a moment of innocent fun spirals into a life-altering obsession.
In the film, Valerie Bertinelli stars as Gina Breslin, a young, recently married woman feeling restless and unfulfilled while her husband is occuppied with his demanding medical internship. Seeking excitement and a way to break up the monotony, Gina agrees to try her luck at the blackjack tables during a trip to Lake Tahoe. What starts as beginner's luck quickly turns into a dangerous compulsion as the thrill of gambling consumes her.
As Gina's wagering escalates, so do the stakes in her personal life. She begins to gamble away her trust fund, strains her marriage to David Breslin (played by Fredric Lehne), and entangles herself with Keith Sindell (portrayed by Michael Brandon), a smooth casino associate whose intentions are ambiguous at best. Along the way, supporting performances from Ed Lauter as Carl and Dinah Manoff as Mary help paint a fuller picture of Gina's unraveling world.

Welcome to 2026! The Monday Afternoon Movie's latest season continues. Our featured film today stars a couple of legendary icons of the screen, big and small. It's also completely wacky and an all over the place bargain bin James Bond clone. The 1972 film, starring Bette Davis and Robert Wagner, centers on Madame Sin, a wealthy, brilliant, and deeply manipulative woman who runs a private organization that trains people to be elite criminals. She recruits individuals with specialized skills—pilots, scientists, strategists—and molds them into a secret force she can control. Her operation is polished and almost glamorous, but underneath it's all about power and domination.
A former British intelligence officer (Wagner) who's been burned by the system, is lured into Madame Sin's world. At first, the offer looks tempting: money, prestige, and a chance to use his talents again. But he soon realizes that Madame Sin's ambitions go far beyond crime for profit. She wants leverage over governments and plans a massive, high-stakes scheme that could destabilize international politics. Joining Sam Pancake today is actor, writer, and 90-second historian Brandon Johnston. Follow him on Tik Tok and Instagram (linked below) to check out his Hollywood History series.

Do you hear the bells and festive music? Feel that cold weather nipping at your toes? Smell the gingerbread and peppermint? I guess that means only one thing: Meika, cue up the Ed Asner clips because the yearly Sam Pancake Holiday Special is upon us once more and we're all out of Paul Lynde specials to cover. Today's episode takes us on a sentimental and heartwarming journey through ABC's 1977 Hanna-Barbera produced made-for-tv film The Gathering, starring legendary actors Ed Asner and Maureen Stapleton. Also of note, the movie was written by Academy Award winner James Poe, who gave us the screenplays for Around the World in 80 Days and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Ed Asner plays a grumpy and blunt middle-aged executive who finds himself facing a terminal illness diagnosis. He is forced to confront the prospect of leaving behind the life that he has built and the family he loves but has often taken for granted. In the end, The Gathering becomes more than just a family reunion. It's a cathartic and emotional journey, one that teaches the importance of love, forgiveness, and the fleeting nature of time. With his characteristic stubbornness and unflinching honesty, he shows his family the value of coming together when it matters most, even as he faces his own mortality. From everyone at Sam Pancake Presents: The Monday Afternoon Movie, we'd like to wish you all a very merry holiday season. May it be filled with all of the things you love and cherish. What better Christmas present could Monday Afternoon Movie offer you than a holiday special with special guest Lauren Graham? Not only is she one of the titular Gilmore Girls, she’s also a bona fide Christmas movie star in her own right as a result of starring in both Bad Santa and appearing in this year’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. And she’s also Sam’s IRL bestie, and they’re joining forces to discuss 1972’s THE HOUSE WITHOUT A CHRISTMAS TREE, starring Lisa Lucas and Jason Robards.

We don’t like to brag on this podcast — we don’t, we swear! — but presented for your holiday delight is possibly the best union of guest and subject matter we’ve done so far: kickass drummer Patty Schemel and the 1968 made-for-TV Christmas classic, The Little Drummer Boy. Yes, this is a non-scary episode of the podcast, unless you find the Rankin/Bass stop-motion animation slightly unsettling, and many of us do. Listen to Sam and Patty reminisce about the 90s, her days in the band Hole, drugs and also holiday TV.

Welcome to a special Halloween edition of Monday Afternoon Movie, in which we discuss not a hilarious made-for-TV gem that is enjoyable on a camp level but instead a TV movie that is actually scary. We speak of GHOSTWATCH, a 1992 BBC broadcast that took many an at-home viewer by surprise when it first aired. To say too much would ruin a first-time viewing experience, so Sam — joined by returning guest Roz Hernandez! — will not be giving away the whole plot. Instead, let their conversation inspire you to tune in for yourself.
Happy Halloween!
And BTW, you can watch this film yourself right now (and for free!) on Tubi!
A hero returns just when we need him most! Is it Darren McGavin’s Carl Kolchak? No! It’s Sam Pancake, here to discuss the second of the Kolchak movies in which a host of crabby white men go on and on in the face of supernatural peril. This time, Sam is joined by professional funny-acting person Jack Plotnick, to discuss the highs and lows of the made-for-TV horror subgenre.

You might think that if anyone was going to follow up the iconic film Rosemary's Baby with further tales of the plucky Woodhouse family, they would do so with the skill and thoughtfulness that made the original so celebrated. Well, you woulnd't be correct, because the 1976 ABC TV movie LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENED TO ROSEMARY'S BABY tosses out the prestiga of the original for the wackadoo kookiness that you'd find in any made-for-TV horror flick of the era. Also known as Night Drive, this 1974 made-for-TV thriller stars none other than Valerie Harper as a lady motorist pursued by a psychopath. Is it a distaff Duel or an even scarier Crossroads? Here to answer that question are two of Sam's comedy chums, performers Carrie Aizley and Christen Sussin.

Warning: This episode (and this TV film) concerns child pornography and might be upsetting for some listeners.
What’s this? A return to the “teen trauma” wave of TV movies? YES! And it’s all thanks to this week’s guest, Margaret Cho, who made the suggestion that Sam look into this real doozy of a telefilm. FALLEN ANGEL stars Melinda Dillon as the mother of a tween who runs afoul of child pornographers. So yeah, this is heavy, but Sam and Margaret treat it like a real-life horror film… because it is.

Will Shelley Winters finally have her revenge on Sam Pancake and the Monday Afternoon Movie? Now that we're back to the horror genre, Sam has invited iconic filmmaker and confirmed cult leader Peaches Christ into the fold to talk about REVENGE!, the 1971 ABC movie of the week starring Sam's nemesis, Dame Shelley Winters, Bradford Dillman, and Stuart Whitman. In what very much feels like a precursor to the classic Stephen King story Misery, a vigilante mother will do anything to get revenge against the man who she believes is directly responsible for her daughter's untimely death. Will her plot to destroy him go too far? Will Peaches' perspective on all things Shelley finally convince Sam to show her some love? Or will Sam's deep and passionate disdain for her just grow stronger with each scene stealing blocking and each passing huff and wheeze?

Just like the Langoliers, the Monday Afternoon Movie marches on. Covering part two of the Stephen King (or Stephanie Queen if you prefer the drag version) two-part miniseries The Langoliers. The film stars some heavy hitters of television at the time: Bronson Pinchot from Perfect Strangers, Dean Stockwell from Quantum Leap, and three-time Emmy winner Pattricia Wettig from Thirtysomething.

Let the new season of horror begin! Sam Pancake is here in the new year to get back to the Monday Afternoon Movie roots, which is all that is shocking and scary and sometimes ridiculous. He's asked actor and now returning guest Alec Mapa to sit down with him to watch the 1972 film THE PEOPLE, starring William Shatner, Kim Darby, and Diane Varsi.
A school teacher takes a job teaching at a very rural school where she discovers that the locals adhere to very strict rules regarding their society as well as their children. Is there more to this town than isn't easily visible? Is the new school teacher in danger? Will doctor/veterinarian Willam Shatner have to save the day? Will we all have a newly discovered love of the sweet sounds of the harmonica?

OMG OMG OMG Bruce Vilanch! Okay, now that that is out of the way... Part two of the Monday Afternoon Movie holiday special has arrived, and it has brought with it not frankincense and myrrh, but definitely two wise men in Sam Pancake and THE legendary Bruce Vilanch. We just had to include him in any conversation revolving around the Star Wars holiday special as he was one of the writers of this "timeless" classic. 😉 Bruce also touches on some of the other greatest hits of his career, such as Mahogany, The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, and a plethora of 1970s and 1980s television variety shows with Donnie and Marie and the Brady Bunch. Also find out what Bruce thinks wookies sound like, and what Paul Lynde loved about Gene Simmons. Happy New Year (and Life Day!) from Sam Pancake and everyone at Monday Afternoon Movie & TableCakes! It wouldn't quite feel like the holidays without a Monday Afternoon Movie holiday special. For that special, why not cover the infamous pinnacle of all holiday variety shows, The Star Wars Holiday Special?! The whole crew is begrudgingly and contractually back to bring a truly forgettable viewing experience to your late 1970's television sets. Mark Hamill is here as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford is back as Han Solo, and everyone's favorite space Mom Carrie Fisher is back as Princess Leia Organa. Unfortunately, they are not the main characters in any way. That title would belong to Lumpy & Itchy, the family of Chewbacca, who spend large portions of the movie grunting away about Life Day without the assisitance of subtitles. Then, just for fun, toss in a bevy of celebrity guests like Bea Arthur, Harvey Korman, Art Carney, Dihann Carroll, and Jefferson Starship. If you're a Star Wars fan and you've never seen it, you really should at least once... okay, maybe not. Happy holidays (and Life Day!) from Sam Pancake and everyone at Monday Afternoon Movie & TableCakes! We hope that you got to spend some time away from work and with your loved ones. Don't miss next week's part 2 with the ICONIC Bruce Vilanch!

That infamous New England house is back in Amityville: The Evil Escapes aka A HIDEOUS GAY LAMP IS KILLING MY FAMILY aka DON'T STICK YOUR HAND IN A GARBAGE DISPOSAL aka DON'T OPEN YOUR MOUTH UNDER AN OPEN SEWER PIPE.
Joshua Tonks is back, all the way from England (supposedly) to share his thoughts and quips with all of us. He says he's English, but is he really? Only Sam knows the shocking truth.

Ok y’all- for my Halloween episode(s) this year, I decided to take us on a trip to that fated Dutch Colonial Mansard-Roofed House of Horror with the Glowing Demonic Window/Eyes. I had never seen the fourth installment and first TVM iteration of the frenetic “Amityville Horror” franchise, 1989’s AMITYVILLE HORROR: THE EVIL ESCAPES aka AMITYVILLE 4: THE EVIL ESCAPES aka A HIDEOUS GAY LAMP IS KILLING MY FAMILY.
Y’all. Y’all!??! Y’ALL. The good news is that you can watch this jaw-dropper most anywhere: Tubi, Plex, Pluto, FreeVee, AMC+, Roku, YouTube, the CVS app, in the settings dial of a new Whirlpool dryer, if you stare long enough into a slightly spoiled container of macaroni salad from that questionable snack kiosk at the airport. The better news is that it is one of the most ridiculously hilarious, nonsensically kookoo-boots “movies” I’ve ever had the pleasure of covering on the pod. The best news: my guest is the delightful and deeply knowledgeable cutie- smartie Joshua Tonks, who I was a big fan of from my fave scary movie podcasts from the UK, “Evolution of Horror” and “Brain Rot.” Luckily he was here in LA visiting from London this week and I snagged him in person for my 🎃 special! Yeehaw!

Time to drop back into the satanic panic of 1982 with the second half of the Tom Hanks led TV film Mazes and Monsters, also starring Wendy Crewson and Chris Makepeace. Joining Sam again is TableCakes own Meika Grimm, editor of this very podcast. She has also edited a number of our sister podcasts, including Smart Mouth. She is an L.A. based digital creator, musician, and audio/video engineer. We return to the story with our lead Robbie experiencing vivid dreams of his missing brother Hall. After increasingly concerning behavior, including staying in character even when they aren't playing the game, he sneaks out of a party to go on a solo mission to find his long lost brother. His friends follow the clues he's left behind, Scooby Doo style, leading to our climactic finale in the heart of New York City.

You're going to want to bring out the 20 sided dice, blacklights, and Mountain Dew for this one. We're staying in the year 1982, but after a string of teenage wasteland themed episodes, it's time to get back to the show's roots. That right! Horror! Specifically the Tom Hanks led film Mazes and Monsters, also starring Wendy Crewson and Chris Makepeace. Joining Sam today is TableCakes own Meika Grimm, editor of this very podcast. She has also edited a number of our sister podcasts, including Smart Mouth. She is an L.A. based digital creator, musician, and audio/video engineer. Our film follows 4 college aged kids from New York who have formed a bond around a fantasy table top board game loosely based on Dungeons & Dragons. When the group decide to take the game into the local caves to add an extra level of excitement to the adventure, it leads to one of them going missing and the rest wondering what is real and what is fantasy. You will definitely want to watch this one, if only for the amazing 80's sweaters on display.

Sam Pancake and the amazing Gedde Watanabe are back for part two of their walkthrough of Angel Dusted, the NBC TV Special starring Jean Stapleton and Arthur Hill.
An affluent family's son begins to have violent outbursts while away at college and they soon discover that he has fallen into drugs, specifically the dangerous new trendy drug called PCP, otherwise known as Angel Dust.
Will parents Betty and Michael be able to reach their son in time to stop his descent into addiction? Will the young, hip Dr. Gideon's newfangled ways convince them to step out of their usual comfort zones to save him?
One thing is for sure, we are going to play a LOT of classic commercials from the era, and we will find out just how sexist advertisements were then.

It’s super funny how hitchhiking used to be a thing everyone did to get aroun, but once people got it in their heads that it was dangerous and people could die, we stopped. Yet the whole time America also has this whole gun thing, which is emphatically worse and more likely to result in people dying, and we’re like “IDK LOL.” Anyway! This week Sam is joined by returning guest Naomi Ekperigin to discuss the 1979 TV movie DIARY OF A TEENAGE HITCHHIKER, starring Charlene Tilton and recalling a time when we actually warned each other off from dangerous activities. Welcome to a new season of Sam Pancake Presents the Monday Afternoon Movie! Earlier this year, Monday Afternoon Movie gifted you faithful listeners with the Paul Lynde Halloween Special, which has surely enriched your lives forever. Now, we are celebrating Christmas with yet another Paul Lynde special — one even less remembered and perhaps even less good: ’TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, which aired just once in 1977 and has neither re-aired nor been released to any sort of home video format. Sam started this podcast to celebrate how bonkers made-for-TV movies could be back in the day, but this episode, about 1975’s THE UFO INCIDENT, requires a different approach. In short, this movie is good. Starring two Academy Award-winners — James Earl Jones and Grandma Bev herself, Estelle Parsons — THE UFO INCIDENT tells the story of Betty and Barney Hill, real-life UFO abductees. And Sam is joined by Scott Philbrook, co-host of the Astonishing Legends podcast, to discuss how good this TV movie can be.

Celebrate Halloween two days late not with the TV series Kolchak: The Night Stalker but the 1972 TV movie that first introduced Darren McGavin as Carl Kolchak. It influenced generations of subsequent paranormal-themed TV shows, but does it hold up today? Afternooners, have we got a whopper for you. Not only do you get to hear a frank and incisive discussion of the 1981 made-for-TV horror movie THIS HOUSE POSSESSED but also Sam’s comrade in commentary for this season finale is My Favorite Murder co-host Karen Kilgariff. They. Go. Into it. They actually went so into it that we decided to break up this episode into two parts, because doctors said one super-episode would be too much for you all. Enjoy! You are not having as bad of a week as Valerie Harper is in this movie, but if you’ve ever wanted to see Rhoda get dragged through hell, this 1982 offering is the movie for you. Welcome to hell. Literally. We’d love to say that this episode is the first of the new season, but seeing as how we’re all grounded until summer, this is going to be a one-off until Sam can invite his friends over without risk of certain death. Luckily, this one is a great one: Jeff Nelson, camp impresario and Scream Factory co-founder, talks with Sam about INVITATION TO HELL, a Wes Craven-directed, Robert Urich-starring made-for-TV effort that features Susan Lucci as the devil. Just one month after John Carpenter ruined the American babysitter market with HALLOWEEN, NBC aired SOMEBODY’S WATCHING ME, a different tale of imperiled women. Amanda has handpicked every one of the films for the next few episodes, and for the episode she sits in the guest chair, she chose 1973’s ISN’T IT SHOCKING? — a proto-slasher starring Alan Alda, Louise Lasser and a host of geriatric murder victims. Sam Pancake’s exploration of the horrors of the animal kingdom edges toward its explosive climax with 1978's THE BEASTS ARE ON THE STREETS, a film that guest Nina Millin points out more than once features relatively few moments of actual animals on actual streets. But whatever. Carol Lynley stars as the only animal scientist who can stop a zoological horde from rampaging through a town populated by extras who seem genuinely surprised to be in the presence of actual loose animals. The 1976 TV movie The Savage Bees had audiences demanding “More! MORE!” Hollywood bigwigs knew that the three other bee-themed made-for-TV horror films wouldn’t be enough, and that they had to tell more of the story of Jeannie Deveraux. In 1978, our bug lady heroine returned to the small screen, though now played by Tovah Feldshuh, and this week, Sam and special guest Nadya Ginsburg discussing the exciting final chapter in the saga. And then we promise we won’t talk about bees again. After almost fifty years performing onscreen, Myrna Loy finally landed a role befitting her talents: as a wheelchair-bound hotelier besieged by ants. She stars opposite Suzanne Somers, Bernie Casey and Robert Foxworth in Ants!, a.k.a. It Happened at Lakewood Manor and also a.k.a. Panic at Lakewood Manor, because it’s always a good sign when a movie has multiple titles. Joining Sam this week is comedian and drag legend Jackie Beat, who did not enjoy the film. Sam Pancake’s personal war on bees continues with THE SAVAGE BEES, a 1976 made-for-TV creature feature that has the unique distinction of not sucking to the point that it was actually released in theaters abroad. What animal strikes more fear into the heart of man than… the banana spider?!?! Well, at least that’s the premise the creators of TARANTULAS: THE DEADLY CARGO were hoping would win over made-for-tv horror fans in 1977. This creature feature — weirdly a Christmastime release, for no reason in particular — doesn’t quite come together, but luckily actor Pip Lilly is on hand to talk with Sam about its hunky eye candy.
