In addition to his many decades as Patti Smith's guitarist and aide-de-camp, Lenny was also the architect of the highly influential 1972 garage rock/psychedelic compilation, Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, which launched many sequels, and more than a few bands, in its wake.

Greatest Hits Records & Books in Media, PA, is where our guests, Stu Eli, Jesse Gennett, and Dom Glisson cooked up the idea to record and release an "audio time capsule" of the sounds of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, a/k/a "Delco." The result is the 92-track album, The Sounds Of Delco, Vol. 1, a light-hearted but affectionate nod to their region and to the used sound effects records that wash up in the store from time to time.
Paul also pays tribute to Jack Douglas (1945-2026) the legendary music producer and engineer of classic albums by John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Cheap Trick, Patti Smith Group, Aerosmith, and The New York Dolls, who passed on at the age of 80 on May 11.

Legendary music producer Jerry Goldstein (Eric Burdon & War, Sly & The Family Stone and more) is here to discuss the fascinating and often tragic story of Ike White, who recorded a forgotten 1974 funky soul cult classic, Changin' Times, with a mobile truck at Tehachapi State Prison while serving a life sentence for murder. That album so moved Stevie Wonder that he actively campaigned for White's early release from prison. This year, Rhino has remastered and pressed 3000 copies of Changin' Times for an RSD Exclusive release. We discuss the events surrounding the original album with its producer, Goldstein, whose own music business history includes co-writing the 1960s "girl group" hit "My Boyfriend's Back" for The Angels, and being one third of the "fake Australian surf group" The Strangeloves ("I Want Candy") and going on to work with Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, and the act he put together, Eric Burdon & WAR, whom he also produced.

It's Record Store Day, Charlie Brown!
On this episode we'll continue to preview titles from the RSD 2026 List, as we welcome Jason and Sean Mendelson from Lee Mendelson Film Productions, to talk about their father's enduring animation series of Charlie Brown TV Specials based on characters in the Peanuts universe created by Charles M. Schulz. This year, LMFP will partner with RSD to release 5000 copies of the double LP pressing of two of Jazz legend Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts soundtracks: It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown / Charlie Brown's All Stars! The two brothers talk about Guaraldi, Schulz, their father, and how LMFP is continuing to pursue eco-friendly green initiatives on all of their releases on "bio-attributed vinyl" to reduce carbon footprint, with sustainably forested paper and in a PVC gatefold jacket and a recycled bag. In 2026, for every copy sold, LMFP will contribute $1.00 to the Arbor Day Foundation, with a minimum annual donation of $12,000 leading to the planting of one tree in a forest of need.

Steve Berlin has been a member of L.A. band Los Lobos since 1984, but in the interim he has split his career between playing saxophone for that band (and The Blasters) and becoming an in-demand record producer for a host of bands including Los Lobos, Faith No More, Crash Test Dummies, and Canada's biggest band, The Tragically Hip. But in 1981, he began his production career working on an album for L.A. local legends, Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs. The album, Pigus Drunkus Maximus, was initially released on the vanity label of another L.A. legend, Steve Wynn, before practically vanishing into the mists of L.A. musical history. This year, the album received a deluxe remastered reissue, with liner notes by Chris Morris, and archival photography by Gary Leonard. Steve tells us the legend of Top Jimmy, and shares some exciting Los Lobos news. And Paul (always the Canadian) asks him about producing The Tragically Hip.

In our first episode of 2026, the legendary UK record producer, remixer, and dub pioneer Adrian Sherwood reflects on his fourth solo studio effort, The Collapse of Everything, released last summer on his On-U Sound label.
He explains how the album's melodic, contemplative sonic headspace balances modern plugin technology with the raw, "breathing" energy of live performances. He also talks about many of his collaborators like Doug Wimbish and Brian Eno, but also dear departed cohorts such as Keith LeBlanc, Mark Stewart, and Lee "Scratch" Perry.

In June, New York City based indie rock band, Hotline TNT released their third album of what many are calling "American Shoegaze" indie rock, Raspberry Moon (Third Man Records). After two Hotline albums where frontman and songwriter Will Anderson did most of the recording by himself, album number three finds him welcoming in his bandmates (Haylen Trammel, Lucky Hunter, and Mike Ralston) and producer Amos Pitsch (Tenement) to collaborate more fully.

Early in August, Record Store Day held their annual "Summer Camp" meeting in New Orleans, once again returning to the lovely Hotel Monteleone, in the heart of the French Quarter, for a few days of meeting, schmoozing, and, frankly, Big Easy cuisine. During the week, host Paul Myers recorded a couple of live interviews with musicians talking about their approach to the music business in 2025.
Today, we are sharing one of them.
Guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer David Rawlings, whose most recent album with Gillian Welch, Woodland, was one of the best records of 2024, sat down with Paul in the Hotel Monteleone ballroom to discuss his duo's truly independent, and self-reliant, approach to the business of music making and distribution. Welch and Rawlings are co-owners of Nashville's Woodland Studio, their own Acony Records label, and now, they are partners in their own prestige pressing facility, Paramount Pressing & Plating, in Denver, Colorado. It's a fun talk!

This summer, the Ohio-based musical group Caamp released theirfifth and most adventurous album to date, Copper Changes Color which they call "a celebration of the dreams and bonds that endure." Co-produced by Beatriz Artola (Fleet Foxes, Sharon Van Etten) and Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, R.E.M.), their songs are raw and vulnerable, alternating between breezy anthems and pensive meditations, and the performances are honest and intuitive to match. Founding member Evan Westfall tells us about building a record upon what they band refer to as "love and trust in the face of doubt and uncertainty, a joyful, cathartic work about not just accepting change, but learning to embrace it."
Paul also offers a few words to mark the passing of esteemed, yet possibly underrated singer and guitarist Terry Reid (1949-2025) who succumbed to cancer on August 4th.

On May 29, 1997, Jeff Buckley drowned in Wolf River, Memphis, Tennessee, just as he was preparing to record the follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut album, Grace. He was only 30 years old. In the time since his tragic death, his legacy has only grown, and the music remains a unique testament to his singular voice and songwriting talent.

On July 22, 2025, we lost Birmingham-born rock vocalist and cultural icon Ozzy Osbourne, rock's "prince of darkness," at the age of 76. His death, from complications due to Parkinson's Disease, ends a career spanning five decades, in which he pioneered an entire subgenre of heavy metal music, as frontman for Black Sabbath, before going on to an even bigger career as a solo artist, where he is credited for introducing the guitarist Randy Rhoads to the wider rock world, and for creating the wildly popular Ozzfest tours. Then, when he'd done it all, he and members of his family, Jack, Kelly, and his manager-wife Sharon, became pioneers of "reality TV" with the hit series, The Osbournes.
On this very special episode, we hear two personal stories of how Ozzy's music and persona touched the lives of music industry professionals who were also, first and foremost, fans.
Returning to our program, Jenn D'Eugenio (Women In Vinyl), made the journey to Birmingham for Ozzy's bittersweet Back To The Beginning farewell show, . She shares her first-hand descriptions of the event, plus two other fascinating Black Sabbath stories.

Ken Pomeroy is a 22-year-old Oklahoma born singer songwriter whose songs have wide open spaces where animals and memories run wild. Her Cherokee name, ᎤᏍᏗ ᏀᏯ ᏓᎶᏂᎨ ᎤᏍᏗᎦ, roughly translates to "little wolf," and on her recent album, Cruel Joke (in stores now from Rounder Records) you can hear the influence of her Native American heritage in the natural images of her songs like "Coyote," "Wolf In Sheep's Clothing," and "Cicadas," (featuring John Moreland) the latter of which was recently featured in Sterlin Harjo's milestone Hulu series, Reservation Dogs.

Grace Potter makes her Record Store Day Podcast debut to talk about her new album that is actually seventeen years old. In 2008, the Vermont-born, singer songwriter, and front person for Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, collaborated with the legendary T-Bone Burnett on a solo departure called Medicine, featuring Burnett and a crew of side players including Jim Keltner, Marc Ribot, Dennis Crouch, and Keefus Ciancia. It was a solid set and a bold personal statement but, at the time, Hollywood Records shelved the album indefinitely to concentrate on furthering her work with the Nocturnals. Singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, record producer, and A&R man Swamp Dogg has done it all in his 65 plus years in the music business. Starting out in West Virginia in the 1950s, as "Little" Jerry Williams, he blazed a trail across the country with stops in Nashville, and finally his funky home in Los Angeles, which is the setting for the great new documentary, Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted. Swamp spoke to us about the film, and about his long, illustrious and, at times notorious, career including his countrified album from last year, Blackgrass: From West Virginia to 125th Street, on the Oh Boy! label. Bob Mould has enjoyed a long and illustrious career in which he has frequently been the guitarist and singer fronting superb rock trios, starting in Minnesota with the seminal '80s indie band Hüsker Dü, and Sugar in the '90s. In the last installment of our month-long Record Store Day 2025 preview series, we meet the members of L.A. band, Wallows (Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston) in anticipation of their RSD First Release, the MORE EP (Atlantic Records). North Carolina band, Rainbow Kitten Surprise are re-issuing their 2015 album RKS for Record Store Day (April 12) as an expanded double album featuring nine previously unreleased demo tracks, and pressed on rainbow tricolor vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. We speak with singer Ela Melo about the history of her band, their roots, and the way they make their music.
And guitarist Steve Conte returns to the program to remember David Johansen, the New York Dolls frontman (and erstwhile Buster Poindexter) who passed away at the age of 75 on February 28. Steve was in the 2000s lineup of the NY Dolls and shares his stories of working with the man some called simply "David Jo."

As Christmas nears, we caught up with the legendary rock vocalist Steve Perry, a certified Rock & Roll Hall of Famer who first made his name as the former lead singer for Journey before going on to a successful solo career with era-defining '80s hits like "Oh Sherrie" and "Foolish Heart."
The occasion for this chat is the release of Perry's Holiday themed album of sentimental standards, The Season 3 (his first for Dark Horse Records).
Since Steve doesn't do many interviews, Paul seized the opportunity to ask Perry about singing for the late great Quincy Jones on "We Are The World," or the story behind Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" ending up in the finale of HBO's The Sopranos. Joe Boyd has had many job descriptions over the course of his nearly sixty-year career in music, and there was simply no way to cover everything in this conversation. That said, Paul and Joe focus on Boyd's important new book, And The Roots of Rhythm Remain: A Journey Through Global Music, and themes of cultural cross-pollination in music, the birth of hip hop and ska, the reason Hitler spared the life of virtuoso Roma guitarist Django Reinhardt, what happened with Nick Drake, and Boyd's phenomenal earlier book, the memoir, White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s.
As a music producer, Boyd has delivered records by Nick Drake, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Taj Mahal, Fairport Convention, Richard and Linda Thompson, Sandy Denny. He tour-managed European dates for Muddy Waters, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and was a production manager at the 1965 Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals, before flying off to open Elektra Records' UK office in London where he and John Hopkins opened the UFO club, giving a psychedelic home to Pink Floyd and others.
In 1971 he moved to Los Angeles to work for Warner Brothers Films (Deliverance, A Clockwork Orange, and the documentary Jimi Hendrix). In 1979, he worked for Lorne Michaels' film company, Broadway Pictures, and the following year, launched his own label, Hannibal Records, releasing works by John Cale, Richard Thompson and more, while bringing global artists such as ¡Cubanismo!, Toumani Diabaté, Ali Farka Touré, Trio Bulgarka, and Songhai, to western audiences.

There's kind of a theme to this week's show, which is admittedly a bit of a mashup of two previous episodes plus a new chat with Travis & Lisa from The Guestroom in Louisville, KY.

English/Irish composer and arranger Sean O'Hagan (Microdisney, Stereolab) is perhaps best known as the visionary behind The High Llamas, whose second album Gideon Gaye (1994) blended a healthy respect for the harmonic tableaus of both Brian Wilson and Steely Dan with a delicate UK pop sound reminiscent of his contemporaries such as Prefab Sprout.
On the brand new High Llamas album, Hey Panda, (featuring guests including Fryars, and Bonny "Prince" Billy) O'Hagan has been absorbing many of the production tricks of contemporary hip-hip records from the likes of Tyler The Creator or Solange, while retaining most of the melodic tendencies that first endeared High Llamas' fans to his music. As you'll hear, O'Hagan cares deeply about keeping his ear to the ground for the new while honoring the past. It's a great conversation.

And this week, even though we had just recorded a solid three tributes to the long gone soul producer and arranger Charles Stepney, the more recently departed legendary composer Burt Bacharach and Television's visionary co-founder, Tom Verlaine, we got late word that Trugoy the Dove from De La Soul, a/k/a David Jolicouer, had passed (so we'll have a feature on him next time.)
