Welcome to our brand new Jetlagged podcast. We are Niccolò, Sue and Andrew, three young politics students passionate about world affairs and eager to share their views on what's going on at the moment.
In this episode of Jetlagged podcast, we shift our focus towards economics to talk about the booming start-up scene in India. We are thrilled to host two guests this time, Ishani and Sara, two young Indian women who are personally involved in an ever evolving start-up sector. We'll hear from Ishani's sustainable business story and from Sara's insights into India's start-up policy. Join us for a chat on recent developments and future trends, with questions on women in business and the meaning of entrepreneurship!
The most famous example of a birth control regime recently underwent a major shift. The Chinese government has announced that it is now possible for Chinese families to have three children, rather than two. But what does that mean for Chinese society and its growth?
We discuss it with Sichen, a young Chinese professional, who wrote her Master's dissertation on the One Child Policy. We talk about the policy's impact on women's role and whether it could be actually counterproductive.

Immigration from Mexico into the US has been a constant issue in American politics. While Trump and his wall have indeed made it around the world, much more is usually ignored about the problem.
In this episode of Jetlagged, we welcome our Mexican guest and friend Roberto to talk about Mexico and immigration, with a special eye on those less well-known aspects, such as the troubles at Mexico’s southern border and the increasing militarisation of the country by the current president.
Roberto is a political analyst at Teneo in London and has previously studied at UCL. Before that he was a political activist in Mexico.
Is Myanmar bound for prolonged turmoil?
Through this episode we invited a special guest from Yangon, Myanmar, a friend of Andrew’s while studying abroad in Hong Kong, to share his personal thoughts and experiences on the latest military coup events in Myanmar.
We discuss why the military intervened and overthrew the democratically elected government, how the political turmoil has impacted the population, and lastly a wider context on the topic: how have other countries reacted and what's at stake? Tune in to hear a captivating story from a student within the confines of a state-mandated internet blackout compelled to share his story.

Is the Metoo movement in China a turning point in Chinese society and politics? In this episode we discuss the importance of the Chinese feminist movement as it deals with heavy censorship and conservative values. To do this, we welcome our fantastic guest Shujie. Shujie is currently a political analyst based in China and has recently graduated from a Master's in Public Policy at UCL. With her we discuss the nature and relevance of the Chinese Metoo phenomenon, which in many ways presented itself with its distinct characteristics. While there is widespread support for the idea of Metoo, this does not seem to apply to a more political, radical feminism. What stands in between? Join us to find out!

In this episode, we are back among ourselves to discuss the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on young people. As the disease gives no signs of abashing, we discuss the fundamental changes that have affected all aspects of life, reflecting on how they will shape the future for younger generations. Recounting our own experiences, we also stop and think about the psychological impact anti-Covid measures had on our life and that of many others. From the economy to travel, the pandemic seems to raise important questions about the nature of activities and occupations we often took for granted. In this episode, we continue exploring the wave of global protest that has been spreading throughout the world since 2019, focusing on Chile. Our guest this time is Sofia, a Chilean poet and composer who is currently pursuing a PhD at King's College London. Sofia was an active participant and observer of the 2019 Chilean anti-government protests, and with her we discussed the motives, development and future of the social turmoil in the country. Join us for this in-depth analysis of Chile's long-standing problems, including inequality and a difficult past.
In this third episode of Jetlagged, we welcome our first ever guest, Jun. Jun is currently a Programme Officer at ASEAN University Network and has recently completed his studies at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. With Jun, we discuss the protest movements that have shaken Thailand over the last few months. Among the questions we ask are the role of the monarchy and the identity of young protesters. By comparing and contrasting the Thai movement to the one in Hong Kong, we try to shed some light on what is going on in the East part of the world.
We are thrilled to publish the second episode of Jetlagged. This time, we keep our focus on international politics and discuss the West’s policy shifts towards China. Starting from President Trump’s harsh remarks related to what he labels ‘the Chinese Virus’ to the UK’s recent decision to exclude Huawei from the British 5G infrastructure, it is impossible to avoid noticing what could be an important paradigm shift. Some of the questions we will try to answer are: Is the West hardening its approach towards China? What forms do these changes take and what are possible reasons and consequences? As usual, we cannot resist the impulse to digress here and there to paint a better picture of what the world is going through now. We hope you enjoy!
