"My 11yo loves Jesus and she loves exploring the Bible, yay! But she has mentioned wanting an NIV translation because it’s easier for her to read. At WEC we read the ESV translation and it’s my favorite based on its accuracy while also being readable. I’m conflicted because if an NIV gets her in the Word more than her current ESV, then it’s good, but I don’t want her to be misguided on some language and phrasing choices I’ve read in that translation. What are your thoughts on different translations of the Bible and where new Christians should start?"

We've had two children placed in our home as emergent foster care, and we're now on the hook for paying for daycare. Plus, it's more important for us, in this moment to show the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ and put these two kids before running a YouTube channel. So, I'm ixnaying all my subscription based software and services until, either the children are placed back with their parents, or we're a couple years down the road and both the children are in school. Men, we are used to solving the problem. When a wife is diagnosed with breast cancer, our natural instincts kick in, and we want to fight. You’ll see these husbands constantly badgering doctors..."why aren’t you doing more for my wife?" Truth is, it’s often the first time in their lives that they felt helpless. Men, just trying to figure out what they can do to help. In some ways this was me. But the doctors handling Nikki’s case were outstanding, and we couldn’t have asked for better. They always showed genuine care for my wife. But I was still lost, not knowing what I could do. And, there aren’t a lot of support groups for the husbands. So, I prayed. Those were some of the longest conversations with God I had ever had. You become a hardened prayer warrior and learn to be the strength that your wife needs to go on, even though emotionally, you lose it in secret. As I mentioned, some men go into fight mode, the second group of men...they go into flight mode. And they’re the ones that really need to listen up.

Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?

2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.
1 Timothy 3:1-7
"The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Therefore an overseer[a] must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil."

5 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. 6 And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. 8 And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” 9 And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10 And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. 11 And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, 12 so that
“‘they may indeed see but not perceive,
and may indeed hear but not understand,
lest they should turn and be forgiven.’”
13 And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. 16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.[a] 18 And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, 19 but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 20 But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”

*CORRECTION
When I said that the NLT was a paraphrase Bible, I was thinking of, "The Living Bible". The New Living Translation (NLT) IS NOT* a paraphrase. The Old Testament was translated from the Masoretic Text of the Hebrew Bible. The New Testament was translated from both the UBS Greek New Testament and the NA Greek New Testament.

We are saved by grace through faith, but as James 2:18 tells us, "But someone will say, 'You have faith; I have deeds.' Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds." This tells us that there are two sides to the same coin. The work that Andy and Doug are putting forth, is a wonderful example to us all.

All, I know this one is completely off cycle, but this episode came after a lot of hard, and I mean HARD prayer. There is injustice in the world. There is injustice right here in the United States, there is absolutely no way to deny that. And, we cry to Heaven for justice. We scream at the top of our lungs through the halls of our civil government to give us justice! But, when we stand before the Judgement Throne of God, will we cry for justice, or will we cry for grace and mercy? Everyday I watch Christian Brother's and Sisters yell and scream for justice, then turn and pray for grace and forgiveness for themselves. Are we right to do so? What does the Bible say?
