American singer/songwriter Kyle Jennings arrived on the music scene in 2004 when his debut album “Shine” was released on his own label, Dark Horse Records in Nashville. In 2014, Dr. Kristy Sumner coupled her passion for travel, history and the paranormal to form Soul Sisters Paranormal, an all-female team, made up of Sumner, her two sisters and two friends.
As a team of 5 investigators, Soul Sisters Paranormal traveled to some of the most historic, and haunted locations in the U.S. This was to determine for themselves if spirit activity does exist, and to highlight the rich history of each location. The team has traveled and investigated numerous locations, to include: the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (WV), The Lizzie Borden House (MA), the Villisca Ax Murder House (IA), the St. Augustine Lighthouse (FL), Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary (TN) and many others.
In 2020, Soul Sisters Paranormal moved to a two-investigator format, with Kristy and her twin sister, Dr. Jenny Sumner, conducting the paranormal investigations. As a two-person team, they've investigated the Attala County Jail (MS), the Old Southern Funeral Home (MS), the Grand Old Lady Hotel (NC), the Hamilton County Jail (FL) and the USS North Carolina (NC). In 2021, Kristy and her friend, Miranda Young, co-founded a company named “History, Highways, and Haunts, LLC” which is operated out of the historic and haunted Historic Scott County Jail in Huntsville, TN.
Prior to forming Soul Sister Paranormal, Kristy, who holds a PhD in Public Affairs with an emphasis on Criminal Justice, was a senior director for a Registered Traveler company focused on biometric clearances for the traveling public, she was a senior consultant for a biometric credentialing company, and she was college professor at Metro State College of Denver and the University of Central Florida. Jenny, who also holds a PhD in Public Affairs, is currently a director at the University of Central Florida.

Kattie was exposed to meth at a very young age. Both her parents struggled with meth addiction, which resulted in a very dysfunctional home. When she was arrested at 19, Kattie realized she didn’t want to continue going down the same path. She went on to be a counselor of high-risk populations and remained sober for a number of years.
After a relapse – or recurrence of symptoms – she was arrested on federal charges and spent three years in prison. That’s when Kattie finally started to accept help from the people around her. She found a loving, supportive community to help her maintain wellness.
Today, Kattie is married with a young son, another one on the way, and two Great Danes. She is attending grad school for clinical mental health counseling. Through her work as a peer coach and supervisor, she’s able to give back and help others. She loves being there for her members and sees the best in them, even when they can’t.

At the age of 16, Bailey Reber was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. For years, she struggled with not only managing her mental illness, but also with accepting it, while the outside world did not. After serving in the United States Marine Corps for 6 years (including a tour of Afghanistan), Sergeant Travis Snyder took it upon himself to start advocacy for veteran mental health after the loss of a fellow comrade.
Walking a total of 2,240 miles, Travis has completed two laps around Lake Michigan on foot, as well as shorter walks to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
We talked about our time in the military, the difficulties in trying to find purpose after serving, and his passion for raising awareness for people with mental health issues.

Vanessa Potter became a “human guinea pig” for science after a terrifying experience changed her life. After 16 years as an award-winning television producer, Vanessa found herself blind and paralyzed for a year following a neurological illness in 2012. A deep curiosity to better understand the mechanics of her mind propelled her down a new, science-communication path, resulting in collaborations with Cambridge neuroscientists and her first book, Patient H69: The Story of my Second Sight, (Bloomsbury, 2017)
In 2015 Vanessa designed and produced an interactive, science-art exhibition that translated the public’s mindful brainwaves into music and art. In 2016 she was invited to give a TEDx talk in Belgium about the project. Vanessa’s next project was to spend 3 years wearing an EEG (electroencephalogram) headset that recorded her live brain activity; while she experienced 12 different meditation styles for a study with neuroscientists. This led to her second book, Finding My Right Mind: One Woman’s Experiment to put Meditation to the Test (Welbeck, 2021)
In 2021 Vanessa founded ParkBathe, a citizen science, green health initiative in collaboration with Derby University. The project encourages sceptics to experience a 1hr adapted version of forest bathing in urban parks and is funded by the National Lottery. (Forest bathing is walking mindfully in nature while using the senses). In the Spring of 2022, Papers publishing presented ParkBathe as an accessible and highly-effective post-Covid health model. Vanessa also produces and hosts the ParkBathe podcast.
Vanessa has written for Mosaic Science, The Telegraph, Marie Claire, Good Housekeeping and has been featured in The Washington Post , The Times and CNN along with many other publications. Steve has been following the Mothman since November of 1966. He is most interested in 'high strangeness areas" where different types of phenomena seem to occur in the same places.
On December 15th, 1967, just after 5 pm, the Ohio bridge collapsed while full of traffic, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Many people died, and is considered one of the worst bridge accidents in modern history. Before this unfortunate event, a large-winged creature was spotted around the surrounding area, and lots of strange things were occurring in this town. There are hundreds of eyewitness accounts, and we discuss in detail all things Mothman, the Men in Black, what led up to the event, and what it's like to live in Point Pleasant today.

Having overcome an abusive childhood, Travis went on to college to study criminal justice, hoping to become an agent for change. While fulfilling this role, he became jaded by corruption he started noticing within the system. During this time, Travis sustained an injury while training, resulting in an opioid addiction, which in turn, led him to a life of crime.

Mark is an award-winning author, social justice advocate, and retired attorney. He is best known for writing the Zachary Blake Betrayal books.
As an attorney, he spent his career trying cases for social justice. Now in retirement, he culled knowledge from those cases and from other social justice issues, and put pen to paper in developing his books. His self-published, 'Betrayal' books, are a series of legal thriller novels. His sixth book in the series, 'Supreme Betrayal' is loosely based on the hearing and appointment of Brent Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.
As a trial attorney, Bello said he witnessed convictions of innocent men who lacked the resources for a strong defense litigator.
Zachary Blake, the main protagonist in his books, is based on his own experiences growing up Jewish, and practicing law in and around Detroit. Mark said he created Blake as a young man who was inspired to become a lawyer and pursue justice after listening to his grandfather's survival stories from Auschwitz, chronicled in Bello's novella, L'Dor va Dor (2020).

Welcome to A Juicy Pear Podcast! This is our very first show, and we are so excited to share it with the world! In this episode, Shawn interviews me about how my first book,
'A Grey Resort', came into being. Set in the small northern town in WI where I grew up, I drew upon my experiences growing up on a lakeside resort in the 70's & 80's. One summer evening, a girl decides to go fishing, and what she sees next changes the course of her life forever.
I had so much fun writing this book, and it brought back so many fond memories of growing up on the water. Becoming an author has been a lifelong dream of mine, and my life has changed because of it. There has been plenty of ups and downs for sure, but there's no denying those magical moments as well. I look forward to getting my second book out into the world, release date to be announced.
