Showing up is half the battle, how we show up matters. That’s what celebrity stylist and GQ veteran, Sophie Lopez, believes. “You are your own walking billboard of who you are. It’s an advertisement of you,” says Lopez who counts the likes of Kate Hudson as one of her top clients. “It’s about zeroing in and figuring out what serves you,” says Lopez, “what makes you feel a certain way, and also what might present out to the world what you want in order to achieve or reach something.” In this episode Farryn and Sophie explore the overlapping worlds of branding and fashion. Understanding empathy is the first step to practice it - and it’s not about what you want, but about listening to the other person and doing what works best for them, not for you.

Especially when it comes to the workplace, the world has sufficiently changed for people to expect to be treated as humans when it comes to their work - regardless of what that is - and it is the employer’s job to assure that they are in touch with their empathic capabilities in order for them to show up as real leaders.

Teaching us that empathy is not a gift that some have but something that can and must be trained, we have today’s guest Michael Ventura, entrepreneur, creative director, and author. His book ‘Applied Empathy’ was firstly published in 2018, and it was meant for us to learn about the new language of leadership - empathy. With his book, Michael shows us how to unlock our ability to design solutions, spark innovation, and solve tough challenges with empathy at the center.

In addition, Michael is the founder of Sub Rosa - a strategy and design firm that has worked with some of the world’s largest brands - as well as he has served as a board member and adviser to various well-known organizations. He is also a visiting lecturer at Princeton University and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Lastly, he also leads a thriving indigenous medicine practice and owns and operates a globally recognized design store with his wife, in New York.

Tune in to Episode 05 of The Farrynheight Podcast, to explore how to challenge yourself in any area you set your mind to and go through the journey that will take you to the other side.

  • What do you think is fundamental to leadership? (29:13)

What does it actually mean to gain clarity?

“Clarity” is such a buzz word that gets thrown around, but it rarely gets unpacked beyond the surface layer. For me, learning how to create clarity was one of the most challenging lessons I’ve learned as a leader. Without personal or organizational clarity, it’s hard to identify the endgame, and it’s impossible to effectively lead a team.

But what does it mean and how can you find it?

That’s exactly what this episode is all about. I talk with Karen Kelly, who talks about her journey from working at Taco Bell, Boston Market, Panera, Sweetgreen and Drybar. She is an unbelievably skilled operational leader who knows what it takes to build a world-class team and unleash the power of those around her.

Throughout our conversation, we unpack the concept of clarity, including why it’s important and how to do the work to gain it. Karen also shares her non-negotiables, and what muscles she’s had to work in her career and life to maintain the level of success she has today.

Some Questions I Ask:

  • Where did your journey begin? (2:01)
  • How did you gain clarity around your higher purpose of impacting people? (6:04)
  • What leadership skills did your CEO mentor have? (10:13)
  • What is the leader’s role in helping others create clarity, be fearless, and grow? (11:55)
  • Who is responsible for establishing clarity in business building? (27:03)
  • What is your brand? (36:54)

Doing the work, for me, means showing up. It means putting in the effort and the hours not just complaining about what you want to accomplish or who you want to be, but actually putting in the focus, the hours, the effort, the heart, and the passion towards accomplishing or working towards your goal.

Today, me and my guest, Karlee Fain, are going to unpack this idea of doing the work and how you can use it, both as an individual as well as an entrepreneur to really accomplish what you want. We’re talking about getting messy, getting your hands dirty, and putting in the work to accomplish all of your dreams, while at the same time, finding the place and the time to slow down, and pause frequently – which can really be the actual hard work for motivated individuals.

Karlee has toured the country as the personal health coach to Lil Wayne, her clients are across MTV, they've won Grammy Awards, they're some of the biggest entrepreneurs, celebrities, and influencers in this country - and today, she focuses her time working with incredibly powerful strong women who want to develop in their career, both personally and professionally.

As the founder of Every Body Thrive, her mission is to show busy people how to do less and receive more. Hustle is outdated and not sustainable, and real success in your career, body, and relationships comes from a rich soulful place that is about learning to take care of your needs, get rest, and discover your unique passions and purpose.

Tune in to this episode of Farryn Height Podcast, to learn how to courageously stop hustling for a moment to realize what is actually important for you and step into a new world where you do true work, instead of busy work.

Some questions I ask:

  • What has been your journey, and how you landed where you are today? (02:13)
  • What are your thoughts on this global pause? Do you think it will make a really positive impact as we think about what comes next? (07:13)
  • What was an example for you of when something got hard? (12:59)
  • For an entrepreneur or someone who is thinking about taking a leap and making a change, what advice would you give them? (35:35)
  • What is egg wisdom? (42:29)
  • What do you value most? (45:35)

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • The importance of taking frequent pauses from your work & how to find the time to do that. (02:54)
  • Debunking the myth that if we slow down, things fall apart. (05:34)
  • The three H’s of COVID-19. (08:34)

  • Our career is not our identity & The myth of work-life balance. (19:30)
  • The importance of getting clear about the natural rhythm of your team, and creating a culture around it, rather than the other way around. (23:23)
  • Why authenticity and vulnerability are the new favorite qualities a leader has to have. (28:56)
  • What the ‘daily thrive’ practice is and how it influences all the areas of your life. (33:41)

It’s no secret that western culture is rooted in materialism. Whoever has more is more successful, and, by contrast, few material items connotes an unsuccessful life.

It is important to know the difference between the things we want and the things we need. Possessions can sometimes weight us down and make us lose sight of what really matters in life. You need to create freedom for yourself through letting go of hoarding - both physically and mentally - and pave the way for a more refined framework in which to feel free living inside of.

Today, I will be talking about my personal experience with essentialism, how it helps me create clarity in my life and understand my place in the world, with the hope that it can help or serve you in a similar way as well.

Tune in to explore how to challenge yourself in any area you set your mind to and go through the journey that will take you to the other side.

In this episode, you will learn:

· How uncluttering your life leads to clarity and a new understanding of the world around you. (01:36)

· Understanding my place in the world by traveling. (03:07)

· What my first Burning Man experience was like. (07:23)

· How learning to accept yourself leads to letting go. (10:46)

· Why it’s important to start letting go of the unrealistic standards you set for yourself. (17:54)

There is a certain clarity and understanding of the world that comes with traveling around the world that everyone can benefit from. In my 35 years of life on earth so far, I have managed to pursue my dreams with a level of energy and passion that I also bring to this podcast.

Nobody has all the answers, and we don’t need all of the answers as long as you’re driven to pursue the life of your dreams. There’s a myth in our culture that pushes us to separate our work-lives, home-lives, and other “compartments” of within our lives. But believing this myth only keeps us captive. Learning to blur these lines allows us to discover a new and better part of ourselves that we otherwise were not aware of.

It is important to explore the values that move us and not to segregate work and life as they are meant to exist together. Today, I share with you my life experience and what I have learned in my fast-paced lifestyle, offering my insights and guidance into how you can grow into your better, more capable, self.

Tune in to the first episode of Farryn Height - with myself, Farryn Weiner - to explore how to challenge yourself in any area you set your mind to and go through the journey that will take you to the other side.

In this episode, you will learn:

· A little bit about myself. (00:30)

· What you can expect from future episodes of Farrynheight. (4:33)

· How prioritizing life and adventure shifted my worldview. (6:22)

· What I have to offer as the host of this podcast. (8:49)
