About six months ago, the Lord kindled in me a deep curiosity for the evidence of the Christian faith and I've spent much of my free time doing deep dives into as many areas of the Christian faith as possible. And this Christmas season, my deep dive has been into the most Christmas-y evidence I can think of: the birth of Jesus! More specifically, the prophecies foretold in the Old Testament that were fulfilled by His birth. What better time, right?!
This episode is not meant to be detailed or comprehensive, but brief and a small taste of the much bigger picture. As I do my best to succinctly and clearly communicate these timeless and beautiful truths of the Christian faith, I pray the Holy Spirit would inhabit the space between my words and your ears and will do the work that only He can. May your faith be strengthened and a deep desire and curiosity kindled in you to seek out the evidence that exists for Jesus being the Savior and Hope of the world. We are truly honored to have Faith Bailey, @6ish_andiknowit facilitator, with us in this episode. Chatting with her about making decisions, moving forward in uncertainty, and all things enneagram felt like sitting down for coffee with an old friend. We hope you enjoy our talk with Faith as much as we did!
Note: The Enneagram is a personality typing system of nine types, or "numbers" (1-9), each with specific features. Enneagram teaching says that each person is dominant in one number, based upon their motivations for the ways they move through life. While there's much more to say regarding the Enneagram, that's the first level of knowledge needed for this episode. We will be doing an introduction episode with a special guest in Spring 2021 for a deeper dive.
Also, while many Christians bring up understandable concerns about the Enneagram, due to its roots in mysticism and eastern religions, we have found it to be a wonderful relational and conversational tool - emphasis on the word "tool." It's not a religion, it's not a lifestyle, and it is not absolute truth. we don't advocate picking it up for truth before picking up your Bible; but, personally, it has given us structure and language by which to relate to and understand one another, other people, and the Lord, and for that we are grateful. This is why we want to share some knowledge about this tool with you, in hopes that it can be a tool you for you to use in your own relationships and understanding of those around you.

Cook down
1 chopped onion
1 chopped zucchini
in a tablespoon of olive oil until softened
Add to pot:
1 can fire roasted tomato
1 box chicken broth
LOTS of garlic powder or fresh garlic
Italian seasoning
Salt
Black pepper
Bring to simmer for 10 mins
Bring to a boil, add tortellini for amount of time listed on packaging
Optional (but definitely preferred): add greek yogurt or sour cream, parmesan cheese, and avocado
PRESTO
*will last in the fridge for 2-3 days before getting a little too mushy

Before we started recording in our last session, we decided to have an un-scripted, unplanned conversation to “warm up,” and, on a whim, we hit record. Upon reviewing it, we decided that, while it’s not completely fleshed out, it holds many thoughts we’d love to share on preaching the gospel to yourself, the danger of normalizing certain pop culture trends, and living on the defense AND offense, plus a few other random tidbits.
NOTE: We want to be clear...we do not think ALL pop culture is evil. But we know, experientially, the importance of guarding our hearts, because much of pop culture looks deceptively innocent, while wreaking havoc on our souls. We are called, as Christians, to be vigilant (1 Peter 5:8) and stand firm on truth (Ephesians 6:11-13).

In our daily lives, whether or not we are aware, we‘re planting seeds in our relationships. These seeds are our patterns of thoughts and behavior- while sometimes they’re intentional, most often they are ingrained, sometimes all the way from childhood. The good and the bad seeds determine the fruit we will harvest in our relationships. The good fruit is what we seek.
But in order to achieve the good, we must identify the bad. In this episode, we call the “bad seeds” by name, and introduce a healthy “good seed” to replace them. Over time, this practice will eliminate toxicity and assumptions, and replace them with a pattern of honesty, intentionality, and grace.

Today we are discussing five ways that we’ve seen Jesus characterized in modern Christian circles that aren’t quite right. Oftentimes, we try to change pieces of Him to fit pieces of us, instead of embracing that the whole of Him is intended to change the whole of who we are. From “Genie Jesus” to “Progressive Jesus,” these caricatures are ways in which we, as humans, seek to humanize Jesus - to shrink Him down to fit in a box, rather than sitting with the discomfort that we are limited in our capacity to understand Him fully.
We’re all about “relating” on this show - how we relate to ourselves, others, and the Lord - and this topic is an important one, because the way that we see the Lord dictates how we will relate to Him. Stick around until the end- we’ll also provide clarification on who we DO know Jesus to be from a biblical perspective.

At one point or another, we’ve all felt the emotion of guilt. Guilt really sucks. But shame is the mean, older sister of guilt and it sucks even more. In this episode, one of our goals is to make the differences between guilt and shame clear, and the other is to communicate that there is freedom from even life-long cycles of shame. That freedom is in the good news of grace, mercy, and the gospel.

Having lived in the center of the Bible Belt our entire lives, Christian subculture fairly permeated the landscape of our youth. In hindsight, we see many “cliches” that we can laugh at, but that we recognize need to be challenged because they’re wrapped in deception.
At the core of each of these cliches is a root of shame and the outcome is empty behaviors and a lack of true understanding of the gospel of grace. In this episode, we seek to peel back the layer of truth to uncover the deception hidden within these concepts, and, as we will always aim to, point back to the gospel of grace that is Jesus Christ.
