Over the course of almost half a century, puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew has worked with the greats - from David Bowie in Labyrinth to Michael Caine in A Muppet Christmas Carol. But the role that defined his career was Rainbow's Zippy, who he operated for more than twenty years. Zippy and Me is the first time a Rainbow insider has told the true story of what went on under the counter and inside the suits: the petty squabbles between performers, wrangling with TV executives, and scandals such as the 'love triangle' between musicians Rod, Jane and Freddy. Destination Star Trek, the worlds largest Star Trek convention returned to Birmingham and celebrated the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

As always with Star Trek, Voyager split opinion with some claiming it's the finest of the franchise and others dismissing it as a diet version of The Next Generation at best.

'My Friend The Polish Girl' follows Katie (Emma Friedman-Cohen), a young American documentarian, casts a Polish woman in her film about the life of migrants in London after the Brexit referendum. Her only instruction as director to Alicja (Aneta Piotrowska) is: "Act as if I’m not here." However, as their relationship develops it becomes clear that all is not what it seems in Alicja’s life, and this would-be actor’s interest in both film and Katie deepens. The documentary soon becomes the narrative of a questionable game in which the two women challenge each other.

This week director Adam Morse announced on the eve of the world premiere of his movie, 'Lucid' that he was blind. i’m joined by Adam and actor, Laurie Calvert to discuss this fantastic and inspiring story behind the making of this movie.
Timid Zel (Laurie Calvert), adrift in a city with no friends, simultaneously craves and fears intimacy. His eccentric neighbour, Elliot (Billy Zane), offers to help him try and win over dancer Jasmine using an experimental form of dream therapy. While this so-called lucid dreaming helps him change and become more confident, his lust leads him on a dark adventure and the question remains as to whether he can charm Jasmine in reality. ?

Toby Macdonald’s wonderfully-staged debut film is a re-working of Cyrano de Bergerac’s classic story, set against the backdrop of a rough-and-tumble boarding school for boys. Amberson (Alex Lawther) may be awkward at sports, but his imagination comes to the fore when he helps the handsome school hero (who is more lad than poet) pursue Agnes (Pauline Etienne), the daughter of the visiting French teacher, despite being enamoured with her himself.

The Shining (1980) a Halloween Retrospective
The Shining is 37 years old and is an absolute classic. But it wasn't always regarded as such. When it was released in 1980 it was met with mixed reviews and was not a financial success in the least. However, Father Time has been good to this Stanley Kubrick film. It's on many "best horror" lists including that of AFI's.
John Mills, Shawn Eastridge, and Tristan Riddell meet up on this Filibuster to discuss this movie right in time for Halloween. Shawn and Tristan regard it as the masterpiece many believe it to be but John definitely has a differing opinion.

Madeleine has also recently finished a crowd funding appeal to help her produce, star and adapt, Big Sur. The film centers around a bus trip home for the holidays that is abruptly hijacked mid-journey. A student is singled out and rather than coming together as a community, the passengers on the bus become isolated in self preservation, allowing unthinkable brutalities to happen to the young girl.

Set in the 1970s as Steven Morrisey’s ambitions to be a musician developed, but before he went on to become lead singer of seminal 1980s band The Smiths, this is Morrissey brimming with youthful arrogance, but searching to find his place in the musical world.

By ignoring the precedent, widower Menashe risks ostracisation from the community he loves; worse, his son Rieven could even be refused access to school.

Priti is a livewire and a Muslim who gradually begins to suspect her older brother is a terrorist. The trio set out to investigate and learn more than they expected.

STARGATE SG-1
In the 1990's not many big screen movies had a TV adapation that would last more than a season but Stargate SG-1, a sequel to the 1994 movie burst onto the air on Showtime and stayed on the air for Ten seasons and gave us two spin-off shows and an animated series.

Interview with Andrew Perez from Louis Theroux's My Scientology Movie
Lee Hutchison is joined by Los Angeles based actor, Andrew Perez for this weeks episode. Andrew Perez had the unusual role for an actor of being cast in a documentary,'Louis Theroux's My Scientology Movie' as the head of Scientology, David Miscavige. That documentary was the much hyped big screen debut of British documentary filmmaker, Louis Theroux working with producer Simon (Searching for Sugarman, Man on Wire, The Imposter) Chinn and it would go on to be the highest grossing documentary in the UK in 2016.
The documentary takes the unique approach by featuring actors portraying high-profile Scientologists to recreate accounts of abuse from ex-members, including the high profile whisteblower Marty Rathbun.
Andrew Perez discusses the unusual experience of auditioning for this movie and what it was like to develop that role with Rathbun and Theroux. Perez shares the what it was like on the set and witnessing the tension between Theroux and Rathburn as they made the documentary. Perez shares some of the amusing incidents that he found himself involved and the reaction to this movie and his amazing performance.
Perez also discusses the making of a movie he starred, wrote and produced, 'Bastards Y Diablos', the story of two half brothers who journey to Columbia to spread their fathers ashes. Perez discusses the experience of shooting a movie in a DIY manner in Columbia with just some equipment, friends and credit cards.
Alternative Christmas Movies

Finding Hope In Star Trek

Matt Hansen couldn’t make this week’s episode, so Lee is joined by his girlfriend Lauren Riley to discuss Star Trek Beyond. Hard Science in Movies
Darren Moser (Ceti Alpha 3) and Lee Hutchison (Filibuster) come together on this weeks Filibuster to discuss movies that have used hard science to tell their stories.
Darren and Lee go back to 1968 to explore '2001: A Space Odyssey' and it's use of scientific ideas to tell a vision of the future before heading to the 90's when Bruce Willis was recruited to save the world from an asteroid.
