However, there are other issues lurking within organisations that require some focus. Over this series of podcasts we’ll hear from specialists, look at the evolving threat landscape and covering issues such as the dark web and how there are now grey hats working within organisations. The series will cover results of the recently commissioned ‘Under the Radar’ report by Malwarebytes. This report investigates how malware is crippling IT systems. In this third episode of The Evolving Threat Podcast, host Charles Commins is reunited once again with Helge Husemann, Security Geek, at Malwarebytes. Together they are joined by Helge’s, Malware Intelligence Researcher colleague Jean-Philippe Taggart. Security expert Helge Husemann, from Malwarebytes, joins host Charles Commins to talk about malware attacks. It was discovered in 2017, by a report undertaken by the Ponemon Institute and IBM that it takes 197 days to discover a breach was in your system and then a further 69 days to put an end to it. The means this malware attack would expose your organisation for 266 days! In 2018, we’ve seen in further research by the Ponemon Institute that malware attacks account for 35 percent of all attacks.

The threat landscape is ever-changing and organisations today face an uphill battle to stay ahead of the latest malware, ransomware, trends and patterns driven by the cybercriminals.
Whilst it is widely acknowledged that there are two types of hackers; those who work for organisations in order to prevent cyber attacks (White Hats) and those who carry out the attacks (Black Hats), in a Malwarebytes commissioned survey The Cost of Cyber Security it was reported that one in every 22 cybersecurity professionals have undertaken some activity that could be considered as leaning towards Black Hat activity. Malwarebytes have named these as Grey Hat.
