Right now, a company called UPSIDE foods is seeking approval from the USDA to bring their cultured chicken to market. This after approval from the FDA saying they found no major concerns in the meat. So how does it work?
A Chicken receives a biopsy, and those cells are cultured until they grow into more chicken meat that is edible by you - the consumer. The process takes about three weeks, but causes no death or injuries to the animals. And the idea is that it's just as natural as any other kind of meat.
So.... would you eat it? We debate the answer, plus why despite thoughts this food would be cheaper, it could actually be exceptionally more expensive. All too often we lack the knowledge of what a candidate stands for. That, in fact, is by design. In actuality it's much easier for candidates to force you to vote out of fear than it is vote what you desire. Because to vote your heart means that candidate has to stand for something.
Also, even the candidates we're left with are beyond polarizing. In fact, we often find ourselves voting for the lesser of two evils. Why is that? And is there a way around it? We discuss why open primaries and more political parties are the solution to a divided country and dysfunctional political system, as we head into the critical midterm elections. Let's get into it!

This week, we're talking about a number of examples of cheating or bending the rules in sports, and how it affects our everyday life. Is there an inherent flaw in how we police the bending of these rules if there's money involved? We're using the key example of Tua Tagovailoa, seriously hurt with concussion-like symptoms after the Miami Dolphins allegedly didn't follow proper protocol after an initial hit. The team was off to a hot start up until that point. What does this say about putting profit over health?
Then, two examples from the world of motorsports, with punishment or expected changes potentially less severe due to the money involved. One example comes from NASCAR, where the design of the Gen 7 chassis is causing drivers to be hurt in what once seemed to be run of the mill crashes. Why is NASCAR dragging its feet on implementing safety upgrades to keep these drivers safe? Are they running a risk each time they get in the car?
Then, a budget cap breach in F1 possible to go many millions above the limit. Is the fact that it's one of the sports biggest teams in Red Bull that's causing the sport to drag its feet in dishing out punishment? There's a lot riding on this initial punishment for a budget cap breach, worthy of setting a tone but with the potential of changing the outcome of last year's championship.
Lastly, is this a glimpse into the challenges of our everyday lives courtesy of Corporate America and Capitalism? Why are these things so concerning, but none of them shocking? There's a lot to talk about, and we dive into it all!

This week, we're diving into the Multiverse! But not the one Marvel tells you about. We're looking at actual Multiverse theory, how it came to be, and why it could explain many parts of our reality! Did you know some scientists believe that our universe is connected to an infinite amount of other universes? Did you also know that both the thing that causes this theory, and is explained by this theory is right around us? Multiverse theory provides unlimited possibilities - some universes abundant with life (much more than ours is known to be right now), and others where matter can't even exist. It's unlimited possibilities, and there's a lot to talk about!
The same element that influences multiverse theory also plays a pivotal role in another scientific theory - something we're all more familiar with thanks to the newest Marvel movies. We're talking about String Theory! It's the idea that while we can only perceive four dimensions (length, width, depth, and time), there may be as many as 6 more dimensions that we can't perceive. Views of our reality with limitless other possibilities, including parallel realities with subtle decision-making difference throughout that influence different outcomes. Or, entirely alternate realities with completely different conclusions. And, realities and perceptions entirely devoid of the passage of time. Again, the possibilities are endless.
So, how did this theory come to be? It helps explain/is somewhat caused by quantum physics. These are things that take place on a sub-molecular level, and may be influencing the world and universe around us in ways we can't even fathom. This leads into the theory that these unrealized dimensions are either so big, or so small that we can't perceive them. It's mind-bending, awe-inspiring, and leads to several unique theories of our own! It's a big-brained episode, and we can't wait to dive into it with you!

What if instead of a trend, the answer is simple: a stopgap. Maybe EVs are just a trendy holdover until something more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly comes along. And while there's no doubt all of us will have to adjust to this brave new car world... maybe what's to come includes a resurgence of gas powered vehicles (this time with renewable fuel). This week, John and Denison discuss the future of electric vehicles. With hydrogen power growing in popularity and usage, is battery power already a thing of the past? More and more, auto industry and oil industry giants are investing research and development into hydrogen power. The reason why? It could be even more cost-effective, consumer friendly, and environment friendly than its current electric counterparts?
If that's the case, then what is the reason for our investment into electric vehicles? Are they a stop gap for strict rules brought on by the EPA? The government is mandating high fuel economy standards for car companies in the US, all in an effort to combat global warming, and doing so sooner than expected. Is the switch to electric just a temporary fix until hydrogen infrastructure is more prominent?
Hydrogen offers quicker fill-up times, and emits only water and water vapor. So what's the drawback? The initial harvesting of usable Hydrogen is much less eco friendly than the creation of batteries. So, is there a solution? Is Hydrogen really the wave of the future? Or are electric cars here to stay?

This week, we want to know... where are all of the heroes? Christina Smith submitted this week's topic, asking what our generation views as a hero, and who are our heroes? It's an interesting topic the raises another question... are there any heroes left? And is our society willing to let someone become a hero?
We begin by naming the heroes that inspire us, and how that compares to those in our generation. We start off by naming a lot of who you'd expect - First responders, community leaders, and those who give back to make the world a better place. But we also discuss how those who inspire us through the arts, TV, film, and more, are just as worthy of being labeled a hero. Why? Because they influence people like us to be the best versions of ourselves.
How that compares to what society views as a hero is discretionary, but it certainly seems that social media, once again, plays a big influence, with "influencers" being put on a pedestal. The irony: the very thing that builds them up is what tears them down. Which brings us to our final question... will we allow society to build up another hero? Regardless of your feelings toward it, cancel culture plays a big role in our society, meaning new heroes certainly seem unlikely. So who is out there to lead the next generation? A recent survey shows 81% of Americans are concerned we're nearing a major recession. This week, Christina Roach submitted the topic of White Passing, a technique started in the slavery era in an effort by black people to escape the hardships of a white-led society. Many times, black people with a lighter complexion would assimilate into white society in an effort to gain freedom from the slave trade.
Years later, that technique continued in an effort to gain equal rights, taxation, and escape segregation. But after the Civil Rights movement, the need for White Passing slowly dissipated. However, years later Racial Passing by people of all backgrounds continues, albeit for much different reasons.
Today, black people may try to "act white" to try and fit in with society. But that move has fallen out of favor with many. So why does it continue? Do people of other backgrounds and ethnicities take part? And how is it impacting people of color? Let's get into it!

This week, we tackle Matt Butscheck's topic suggestion: Is it possible for volunteer/donate with no ulterior motives? There are so many ways to give back/give of your time in this world. Many people do, many times on a regular basis. But, do they do it with pure intentions? Many donations can be written off on yearly taxes, and corporate volunteer initiatives are often used for publicity. On a smaller scale, many people give their time to causes that mean something to them based on past experience. While that is not a negative motivation, it still highlights how giving to others often times comes from a selfish place.
We discuss if it's possible to truly give without any self-serving mentality. By the metrics given, we hypothesize that those who volunteer their time with different causes in different capacities are more likely to do so from a genuine standpoint than those who consistently serve the same organization. With the over 65 generation soon to outnumber the younger generations and so many of us old farts dealing with cancer (me), heart disease, dementia, and just plain old age, how does you generation deal with the emotional, physical and time demands a loved ones illness might impose on you? How does it affect your generation seeing the frailty of the folks who raised you?”

This week’s topic is courtesy of one is Denison’s students, wanting to learn more about the growing issue that’s affecting all of us - inflation.
Inflation is something that never stops, and can’t be undone. But what the US has experienced in the past few months is worse than normal. Accounting for roughly 1/3rd of that inflation - the auto industry. But the higher cost of cars and trucks, and oil and gas (largely brought on by Russia's invasion of the Ukraine), are feeding into higher prices everywhere - including what you feed on.
So, how does inflation work and what causes it? And how do you weather the storm? One thing is for sure, there’s no going back from these higher overall prices. So, we discuss how to protect your pocketbook among this new normal of higher prices.
Now, speaking of cars, Denison gives us a review after a long-term test drive of an all-electric Tesla Model 3. Daniel Garrett submitted the topic that's on everyone's mind. Just what is going on in the Ukraine? Many of us can agree that what's going on in the country is tragic and hard to watch. But exactly who is in the wrong? A growing number of Republicans are supporting the moves Putin has made. Donald Trump calls the Russian invasion of the Ukraine "smart", along with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. But is Putin deserved of any support?
Others argue this is a time we all need to come together and support Ukraine in the attack on their government, and their people. So where do we stand? There's a lot to break down here.
First, how have we become so divided over what - on the surface - appears to be a cut-and-dry attack on Democracy? Second, what factors are different in this geopolitical debate, versus those who have come before it? We believe the debate over who's at fault for this invasion is already impacting the way the U.S. is responding to the invasion. And there's no time to waste when it comes to stopping Russia, and China - who is hungry to stake a claim on some nearby islands - is watching closely.

This week's viewer-submitted topic comes to us from Russell Rawlins, asking us for our thoughts on the ever-growing and long-lasting trend of enneagrams. What are they, why are so many people interested in them, and why do we believe they're a waste of time? We have a lot to dive into.
First, an enneagram test places you under 1 of 9 classifications with the goal of giving you details you may or may not know about yourself. The goal? Build off strengths, and eliminate weaknesses. What made this particular test catch on versus other strengths tests? The answer isn't quite clear. But we do know the internet and related memes seem to have helped.
But do enneagram tests go too far in trying to tell us something that we may already know about ourselves? Common descriptions include who you are at your best, who you could be at your worst, and what addictions you may fact. There is a lot of positivity and knowledge that can be gained from this self-exploration. But, we hypothesize some of this info may do more harm than good, and that enneagram tests may serve more to keep us in a box than they do to benefit us.

This week, it's part 2 of our discussion with musician and friend of the show Blake Ellis. This week's topic, is the loud and awe-inspiring rock music of years gone by now permanently a thing of the past? In the same way that loud and powerful cars left an indelible mark on our souls, loud guitar amplifiers have done the same thing. Both from a listening and a performing standpoint. But now, the need and usage for such an amp is no longer.
The modern guitarist can get by with much smaller amps, or do away with amps altogether. New pedalboards that model amps have taken their place. And while this does mean there is an increased ease of use, quality control, and lower expense, digital recreations also leave a lack of character in the music. And if we get stuck digitally recreating tones and sounds, will we ever be able to move music forward as an artform?
That brings us to our next topic: The Weeknd's new album Dawn FM. Most tracks sound very reminiscent of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. And for good reason, considering producing icon Quincy Jones worked on the album! Dawn FM showcases a strong push to the retro when it comes to modern music. A push that's been building and growing for several years now. Is it time to move on from the sound of years past? Is it even possible to move music forward without copying the sound of something old? Will creativity, the unforgettable impact of being pummeled by a wall of sound, and incredible musicianship be lost to the sands of time? Let's go ahead and get into it.

This week, it's all things power featuring one of our favorite guests, musician and friend of the show Blake Ellis! In a follow-up to last week's discussion about the auto industry's permanent shift to electric, this week we share our experiences about how the impact of loud, raw, and sheer gas-driven power turned us car crazy, and gave us a respect for the machine and the industry.
All three of us agree - an evangelical moment of loud, powerful engines in our youth changed our lives forever. Years later, we all share a healthy love, respect, and nostalgia for our vehicles. John attests that experience could even influence a generation of those willing to work on and maintain their own vehicles (an opportunity that saves man and leaves room for creativity).
But nothing is forever. And electric cars are sure to change more than just the noise pollution in our communities. Is going electric truly better for the environment? What about hydrogen (another clean energy) and why isn't it being lauded as the replacement for gasoline? The most abundant resource in the universe would appeal to the car culture, and environmentalists? Will cars of the future be touted as works of art? Or consumed and consistently replaced like other electronics?

This week, General Motors unveiled the brand new Silverado EV, set to come out next year. The company's 1st all-electric full-size pickup offer the equivalent of over 660 horsepower, 400 miles of range, and the ability to tow 10,000 pounds... all on a non-truck frame that's shared with the Hummer. From this alone... there's a lot to talk about.
First, how does sharing a platform with the revered Hummer impact the integrity of both vehicles? The Hummer will not have an exclusive design, but both will be capable of higher towing and hauling capabilities compared to their current gas-powered counterparts. With big moves from Ford (introducing the F150 Lightning) and Chrysler (vowing to cut all gas-powered cars by this decade), are the days of gas-powered vehicles finally numbered?
And if they are, what does that mean for our infrastructure? How can we rely on ease of access and capability of charging a vehicle to relieve our range anxiety? Especially in a time where infrastructure quality has been in doubt. Is this the death of oil conglomerates? Or the sign of a major shift that could transform where and how we source our energy?
And then there's the motivation for all of it. The government is pushing very strict fuel standards in the coming years, forcing the hand of automakers to push to an electric future. But is there a better solution? GM is offering hydrogen-powered heavy duty vehicles (the most abundant resource in the world), and is also struggling with a recall-riddled Bolt model that is known to catch fire. Is the motivation for green energy truly for the betterment of the world? Or is it for another kind of green going in the company's pockets? We discuss it all and a whole lot more.

This week, we're talking about the layoff heard around the world. The CEO of Better.com laid off 900 employees in the most savage of ways... on a zoom call. So how is it that someone feels that disassociated with the employees under them that they find find that behavior acceptable? The CEO spoke out saying many of these employees were taking advantage of working from home, and being lazy on the company dime. And while that may be true, it does appear pretty rough and relentless to send that many people home for the holidays in the most impersonal of ways. Is this the new norm in the age of work from home? We discuss.
And then, Amazon Web Services suffers a major outage for roughly an entire workday, showcasing the vast amount of ground covered by AWS. Everything from Amazon deliveries to home security, web hosting platforms and even Netflix and Disney Plus were impacted. Is it safe to trust so much digital infrastructure to just a few seemingly-infallible companies? And what are the repercussions of this outage moving forward? This week, we asked YOU what's been on your mind and had you talking! We asked on our Facebook page to give us your topic suggestions. Several of you responded with the topics, life events, and more that's had your attention, and it inspired us to talk about them. It's something we plan to continue to answer and follow-up on in the next several weeks, so you'll want to stay tuned for your chance to respond.
We begin this new format with a topic submitted by Darien Mack. It reads:
"Something that has been weighing heavily on my mind lately is dream interpretations. Recently, I had a dream that my car went missing (as it would normally be parked/backed into my regular spot), but I kept clicking my lock button to see where it was. Instead, a blue hatchback was parked in my spot with the passenger side door being wide open. I heard Aaliyah’s “Back & Forth” playing in the background and it got to the part in the song where R. Kelly says “…be who you want to be.” Panicking, I was about to call my mom and then I woke up.
I interpreted it as a sign - the “blue” car with the door wide open represented the career I escaped from (ex. the police / “boys in blue”), me being lost/confused and ultimately finding myself / choosing to “walk away” from a dangerous / unfulfilling situation (which I ALWAYS said I DIDN’T want to my mom [a former cop] , but I was going to do it to make HER happy), and hearing the “be who YOU want to be” as my sign to start doing/thinking for MYself (not to sound self-centered, but I’m always doing for others, even if/when it’s at my expense).
In summary, I built up the courage to say “no” and am actively taking strides to become my own person and go for MY dreams (like becoming a psychologist and HR professional or CHRS-ER, “Certified Human Resources Specialist who specializes in Employee Relations."
So, we dive into the topic of dream interpretations! Denison has a history of studying what dreams mean, where they come from, and how they can impact our life. Details based in fact and psychological study are provided, showing their can be a connection to random or recurring dreams showing what you're dealing with in life. We also know there's the ability to control your dreams, called "lucid dreaming." We discuss what it takes to achieve that level of oneness with your dreams, and how it could be a gateway into another level of controlling your mind. Plus, why CONQUERING your fears can be accomplished your dreams.

This week on the Catchup, it's what some say is an attempt to intimidate voters, deter participation, and stoke fears of voter fraud without actual proof. Hervis Rogers from Texas voted in the 2018 midterms, and 2020 Democratic Primary. Rogers spent time in jail for a burglary in the 90s, and was on parole from 2004 to June 2020. But under Texas law, parolees cannot cast a ballot. So, Rogers was arrested and charged with two counts of illegal voting, a felony. He was held on $100k bail, and could face up to 40 years in prison (20 for each charge).
But Rogers claims he didn't know he was voting illegally, setting up an interesting legal battle considering state law requires the accused to "knowingly" be voting illegally to be found guilty. But there's an extra layer to this. Despite voting in the Texas Democratic primary more than a year ago, Rogers was only charged this week as the Texas Legislature discusses bills that could limit voting access.
The Governor has also been critical of - without evidence - widespread voter fraud in the last election. Combine this with the fact that Rogers - who was profiled on national newscasts during the Primary after waiting in line for hours to cast his ballot - and you critics saying Rogers’ arrest was motivated by politics, not election integrity.

NEXT, the banning of Dallas track star Sha'Carri Richardson from the Olympic Games. She had just claimed her title as the fastest woman in America, running the 100-meter dash in 10.64 seconds. The 21-year-old had the opportunity to stake her claim as fastest in the world on the global stage in Tokyo. But, she tested positive for marijuana just a month before the Opening Ceremony, causing the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to ban her from this year's competition.
