In the month of March, Liverpool Football Club were knocked out of two cup competitions and lost their first League game in over a year. The two Arsenal supporters in the show, JR and That.Guy.Kenn, take a What’s App group conversation and few twitter spats, into the studio, in an attempted roasting of show producer Carl Crisp ; a Liverpool fan, and the LFC fan base. The resulting verbal duel is highly emotional and heated, shots pop off in all directions. The lines of banter are blurred and eventually won... (maybe).
NB. This episode was recorded before the serious outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic forced sporting bodies to suspend their respective sporting calendars and countries across the globe went into a mass social distancing and in some cases public lockdown. We know that in these wartime like settings, sport is not the most important thing that we should over concern our selves about. But, in these times we believe that it’s important for our mental health to have entertainment as an outlet to break the cycle of bad news. This is result of our last recording. VAR, was supposed to fix the clear and obvious errors that occur in officiating the beautiful game. But, instead it has created its own black book of controversy that has resulted in dissatisfied fans across the country bemoaning the use of VAR. In this show Beats & Balls asks from a fan prospective, has VAR improved the game and or is it a technology that should be returned as faulty? Our final show for 2019. We look back on the Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr rematch fight, reviewing the lessons AJ can teach us about facing up to the testing times that may come our way. Eni Aluko the England lioness capped 102 times and currently scoring goals for Juventus women’s team joined us while she was on International break promoting her first book They Don’t Teach This. Eni is lady with many strings to her bow and she fitted in nicely into the show to contribute invaluable chat on royal couples, football kits, food and music. This is our most interactive episode so far.. It all stems from this summers pro cricket competitions. More to the point our collective apathy towards it. We plead guilty to being dispassionate towards England's hero Ben Stokes 145 match winning batting exploits against the Australians in this summers The Ashes series. We now the names and the events, because we saw the pictures in the papers and received numerous associated twitter alerts, so it orbited our world!! We hold our hands up and say that our dispassion towards cricket is due to, well, from experience. We find cricket far too complex, lacking fun and a bit difficult to just pick up and play, either individually or with a small number of players. This lead us to think about what are our ultimate ( physical ) pick up sports? You know, the type of sports game that you can just play with little or limited equipment, is easy to organise, can be played in most environments and is played with simple basic rules. We challenged each other to nominate and tell a short story on what we passionately believe to be the ultimate pick up sport. The result of which you hear in this episode.
