So this time around we bring you yet another brother from up North - Punk Mbedzi, who ushers us with the much anticipated second instalment of the Cultured House Session following the success of the first episode.
Included in this mix are various projects which Punk has worked on and produced himself with tracks such as - Satisfaction, Vuk'uzenzele, Taste the drum etc
Have a listen and do provide us with feedback as to what you think of the mix.
Joseph Mbedzi, aka Punk, was born in 1993 in Limpopo, South Africa where he spent most of his childhood years listening to afro-beat, tribal and ancestral sounds which nurtured his love for house music and fed his ever growing hunger to feed natives of the house nation, which ultimately led to him answering his calling and becoming one of South Africa’s finest Producer & DJ in 2009 when his DJ-ing and Producing Career kicked off.
2009 marked a year when Punk not only journeyed to explore the avenues of House music through music production but also marked a year where his unique blend of afro-deep, ancestral, tribal and deep house sounds evolved and culminated in the release of his first solo project under Lembe Sounds, "The Roots Are Calling" EP.
The success of his first solo project ensured that he was not only a household name in South Africa but also ensured that he was able to form a great working relationship with fellow producers Darque, and Da Capo; who aided in honing his music production skills; this not only ensured that he was able to grasp most of his musical knowledge from the finest new school House Music Producers in South Africa but also equipped him with the necessary support to ensure that he was able to become a household name in the House Music circles all over the world. This was exemplified when he teamed up with Da Capo and worked on their first joint EP "Afrolyptic " which was released in 2010 under Lembe Sounds.
The release of Afrolyptic marked a turn in this young producer’s musical career as he soon garnished the interest of international DJS and Producers who fell in love with his work and ultimately resulted in "Taste The Drums" being signed by Boddhi Satva's Offering Recordings. Taste the Drum was later released in 2011 under the "Summer Solstice Voyage" compilation featuring some of the finest talents from Africa.
Punk's international fame broadened with the release in 2011 of his remix of "Mwini" by Djeff & Silyvi released on Offering Recordings. This resulted in Punk expanding his musical horizons and working with various artists and releasing on various recording labels such as the acclaimed Cabana Recordings, DNH Records, Nulu Music, Melomania Records, Blaq Soul Music, Peng Africa inter alia.
Punk has had the privilege of working with the following producers: Da Capo, Darque, Problem Child, Blaq Soul, Infected Soul, DJ Bocka, Lele X, The Heavy Quarterz, Lyrik Shoxen and many more.
2012 will see Punk releasing more of his solo projects and collaborations with his fellow producers as he embarks on bringing more to his sacred sounds to the masses of the house community.
