What is going on with big tech lately. It seems that big tech is trying to find every cost saving measure and take a play out of Carvana's playbook. Every company within FAANG has been letting people go in the tens of thousands.Lately it seems like big tech is not as much as a secure job as it once was. I believe more layoffs are coming. Especially after big companies like Microsoft and Google are investing more into a AI platforms. This way they can secure more funding for these projects.Anyone that has been affected by these mass tech layoffs need to keep their resumes handy, as well as investing them selves through portfolio work. I'm 100% sure that even smaller tech companies will start laying people off. So everyone out there make sure that you are ready.┈ Who is GhostszMusic INC? ┈GhostszMusic INC is an Indie Game Studio, where we design and develop games that spark imagination and wonder. Mark Zuckerberg is starting to follow the footsteps of Elon musk when firing staff members. He is currently making sure that employees want to step down from the positions in order to fight the belief that a recession is near. However in this mentality he is finally showing how old employers view software engineers. Mark Zuckerberg has also stated that many of the employees that he has shouldn't be working at metal formally known as Facebook. Which is not going to bold well when thinking of all the other companies that he controls. Unfortunately the Elon musk mentality it's probably here to stay.

Time for another Elon Musk episode of the dev room podcast. Today it's all about Elon Musk and how he was prepared to fire numerous employees from Tesla, spaceX, the boring company and his future company Twitter. As he's preparing to make sure that his wealth does not decrease any further. At this point he sees all of his employees as expendable as long as they show themselves to be extraordinary employees. In all honesty Elon musk is an egomaniacal villain who only cares about profits. At the expense of his employees which contribute majority of his vast wealth. Instead of letting everyone go he should be trying to invest in the people however with Elon the only thing that he cares about is his net worth.

Trying something a little different with this episode of the The Dev Room Podcast. I want to talk about the world worst human being Elon Musk. He is currently stopping Work from Home and taking sure that all his employees are now back at work. All in the guise of firing 10% of his staff. This man is just trash!

As game developers wanted to create games for iPhone you need to get a mac! However, generally, the choices are with the latest Intel I series but Apple designs and developed their chip called M1. This chip was designed to utilize Apple's hardware and software.
In the past, I owned a Macbook pro with an Intel I7 and it was a pretty powerful system. However, due to a design fault, I started getting ready to retire my poor like Macbook pro. After this sad fact, I was thinking about getting a new Mac mini because of budgeting reasons. I was considering going with the Intel I7 again but of the luck that I have had with them. However, after watching the new M1 chip reviews, I saw that everyone was getting amazing performance from the chip. So I went out and pick myself up a Mac mini with the M1 chip.
The bad about the M1 chip Now that it has been over a month with my workflow. I have quite a bit to say about it as a game developer. Let's first start with the bad stuff. Before the big updates, I was having problems with using Unity, Jetbrains Ryder syncing files amongst themselves. The issue was triggered if I ran to Unity before Ryder finished updating. This problem made me lose some progress because Ryder needs to finish this sync before you can save. The next issue I had was that any piece of software that was not optimized for the M1 chip was trash! Every single program that I ran from Jetbrain that wasn't optimized stuttered and even froze before these updates.
The only ones that didn't were media creation software. The good about the M1 chip After the macOS Big Surr update, this Mac mini is a freaking champ. Most of the problems that I was happening have gone away. Once in a while, I will get occasional stutter but nothing as bad as before. Especially one working with Unity and Ryder. I have been able to test the rest API functionality using Local by Flywheel while Unity and Ryder are all running. Which is very impressive! On top of that my video editing process has been top-notched and I can say the same for photo editing using Photoshop. The same thing can be said about using Lightroom for touching up and color-correcting images.
Lastly, the biggest improvement that I have seen is in 3d modeling in blender 3D. Before the update blender was okay and would become very laggy when UV texturing a model. It would stutter and even freeze to the point of force-quitting out of blender 3D in some cases. Which you could imagine is highly annoying. Especially after working on a model for a couple of hours and lose some progress because of the computer.

I believe that many indie developers are not using Itch.IO to the fullest. This means having a full lengthy description, screenshots, and even a game trailer. This is the way you allow yourself to practice for bigger and bolder games that you are making for retail. Without treating these demos, prototypes, and mini-games like a full release you miss an opportunity to gain a new fan. That completely defeats the point of creating your projects.
I truly believe that once you start taking these Itch.IO projects like full releases, then you start to train yourself to reach more potential fans. Plus you gain the knowledge to reach and target your branding and marketing effort to convert more players to future fans. This is why you must continue training yourself with every project post.

When Xbox game pass first arrived on the scene I was very hesitant because of it. I thought wholeheartedly that this was a passing trend just like Xbox's previous experiments with new technology, I.E. Hololens. However, unlike Hololens I gave it a try and fell in love instantly. Getting to play hundreds of games for the price of Netflix was a brilliant idea. Especially unlike PlayStation, I didn't have to stream the game and deal with latency issues.
The best part of all is the fact that you can find treasure troves in the mix. Mainly in the indie game scene! Over the last year and a half of owning Xbox game pass, I have played countless amount of indie games. Even buying some that I fell in love with. Games like Portal Knights from 505 games, Guacamelee! from DrinkBox Studios, and even Totally Reliable Delivery Service from tinyBuild. Without Xbox game pass I don't think I would have ever played any of these games. I haven't ever been a fan of wacky or physics-based games until now.

Downloadable content or DLC is a very smart and effective way of extending the life of your game. The way this increases the life of your game is by adding more ways to play and the total time to keep the player playing. DLC acts as a boost to help players pick back up the game once it has either stop being fun, or too many players are starting to reach the end. In a way, Downloadable content becomes a second wind to breathe new life into a game.
This is why when creating downloadable content you must make sure that it keeps the core value of the game intact. DLC more like microtransactions have an advert effect and begin to deter players. It could even kill off a future fanbase. This is one reason that games like Destiny 2 lost many returning players. Even games like the NBA 2k franchise has seen some player not likely to return for over microtransactions. DLC mustn't make the player feel like it's the only way to win.

Let's take a second and talk about why representation matters and what it does to a child growing up. Have you ever had someone that you idolized that looked someone like you? If so, then that's great. However, it's not so great if you're like me. Many kids with any level of melanin have the same sentiment. Now that I have set the scene for you. I want to have a serious conversation with you. Representation is a severally missing key to game development that needs to change.
I know that many people don't like to have this conversation is a much-needed one. Especially now that things are becoming more progressive. When you are Black, Asian, or Hispanic and don't meet the European-centric beauty standard, you never get placed in the limelight. While representation shifts to the forefront kids want to be like those heroes we create.
This is the main reason I want you to think about representation. Especially helping the next generation have heroes that would make them better.

Choosing a game engine is a very hard decision. Especially choosing between Unity and Unreal! As developers getting started or even veterans start new projects they must ask themselves this very question. So let's try to break this down! Unity - is a game engine created by Unity Technologies. It allows developers, filmmakers, and traditional animators to create without limits. As of now it mainly used by mobile game developers to create simple games with ease. The language of choice is C#. Most notable games include CupHead, Cities: Skylines, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. Unreal - is a game engine created by Epic Games. Its main focus is the First Person Shooter genre of games but has been retooled to create other types of games. Being backed by Epic means it gets faster support and just looks amazing. The language of choice is C++. Most notable games include Fortnite, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Yoshi's Crafted World.

Right now we are a bit off from doing that but with your help, we can make that a reality. All you have to do is press that subscribe button and leave a comment.
