What if your biggest breakthrough came years after you thought your competitive running career was behind you?
This week onRUNWITHALLI LIVE, I'm joined by Alana Levy, my fellow Horace Greeley High School alum, a 2028 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier, and one of New York City's top marathoners. After stepping away from competitive running following college, Alana never imagined she'd eventually qualify for the Olympic Trials. Yet through years of consistency, patience, and trusting the process, she progressed from a 2:59 marathon to a 2:48, then a 2:40, and ultimately a 2:34 marathon to earn her first Olympic Trials qualifier. All while working full-time.
In this episode, we dive into what it takes to balance ambition, career, and elite performance without losing sight of why you started running in the first place.

Nearly two decades later, our paths have crossed again through running and the incredible community this sport creates. It truly is one of my favorite parts of running and how it has a way of bringing people back together. And no, we are NOT old!

WORK WITH RUNWITHALLI
In this episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I sit down with sports psychologist Haley Perlus to explore the mental skills that help runners thrive both in training and on race day.
While many athletes search for the perfect workout, Dr. Perlus reminds us that lasting progress starts with mastering our mindset.
One of the biggest themes from this conversation? Patience.
As runners, we often expect immediate results from our training. We want the breakthrough workout, the PR, and the confidence boost now. But meaningful growth both physically and mentally takes time.
Dr. Perlus shares practical strategies for developing patience, building confidence, and learning to perform under pressure.

Key Takeaways
Confidence is earned through action.
Every workout completed, every challenge faced, and every small goal achieved provides evidence that you can do hard things.
Patience is a performance skill.
Mental fitness develops the same way physical fitness does: through repetition, consistency, and practice over time.
Doubt doesn't disappear at higher levels of performance.
The goal isn't to eliminate fear or uncertainty. It’s to build the ability to move forward despite them.
Pressure is information, not an enemy.
Learning to interpret pressure as a sign that something matters can transform your race-day experience.
Progress isn't all-or-nothing.
Missing one goal doesn't erase everything you accomplished along the way.
Memorable Quote
"The work isn't about getting rid of doubt. The work is developing your tolerance for it." — Dr. Haley Perlus
Final Thoughts
Whether you're training for your first 5K, chasing a marathon PR, or navigating a setback, remember that both physical and mental growth require patience.
Keep showing up. Trust the process. Give yourself grace, but, don’t let yourself off the hook!
And remember, there’s no pace too slow!

WORK WITH RUNWITHALLI
In this episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I sit down with ultrarunner, coach, content creator, and one of the original voices in online running, Sage Canaday.
From Division I running to Olympic Trials qualifying marathons, 100-mile trail races, coaching thousands of athletes, and building VO2 Max Productions, Sage shares one theme that kept resurfacing throughout our conversation:
Patience.
In a world obsessed with instant results, Sage reminds us that the best runners aren't built in weeks. They’re built over years.
Top Takeaways from Sage
1. Be Patient and Enjoy the Process
When asked what he would tell his younger self, Sage didn't talk about workouts, shoes, or race tactics.
He talked about patience.
As a young professional runner, he ramped his training quickly, running extremely high mileage early in his career. Looking back, he acknowledges that things could have gone very differently.
His advice: Enjoy the process. Don't rush the journey. Fitness takes time. Adaptation takes time. Great performances take time.
2. Think Long-Term, Not Workout-to-Workout
One of the most powerful themes of the episode was Sage's emphasis on long-term thinking.
He explained that runners often expect immediate fitness gains after starting a new workout, training block, or program.
Most adaptations take far longer than we think.
Rather than chasing quick results, focus on:
The athletes who continue improving are usually the ones willing to stay patient long enough to reap the rewards.
3. Consistency Beats One Good Workout
When discussing marathon improvement, Sage repeatedly returned to consistency.
Many runners look for the perfect workout.
Sage looks for:
His philosophy is simple: A runner training consistently at 30 miles per week will often outperform the runner who constantly alternates between overtraining and injury.
4. More Isn't Always Better
One of Sage's biggest coaching lessons is that runners often try to do too much, too soon.
Whether it's:
The result is often the same: Injury, burnout, or both.
The key is earning the next level of training rather than forcing it.
5. Running Is a Lifelong Sport
After decades in the sport, Sage spoke candidly about aging, setbacks, injuries, and the reality that none of us are immune to change.
His perspective was refreshing: Running doesn't have to be about chasing PRs forever.
It can be about:
Longevity matters.
6. Healing Requires Patience Too
Sage also shared his experience recovering from a significant injury.
Like many runners, he initially expected a quick return.
Instead, recovery took much longer than anticipated.
One of his biggest lessons: Trust the process and give yourself grace. Whether you're returning from injury, rebuilding fitness, or navigating a difficult season of training, patience isn't weakness. It’s often the fastest path forward.
My Favorite Quote from the Episode
"Just be patient. Think long-term. Things generally take longer to adapt than you think."
Final Thoughts
If there was one message Sage left us with, it's this: The runners who succeed aren't always the most talented. They're often the ones willing to stay consistent, stay healthy, and stay patient long enough to see what's possible!
There is no pace too slow. Keep showing up. Your future fitness is being built one patient day at a time!
Sage was an incredible guest and human to connect with on the podcast, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what he continues to do and bring to runners worldwide as both a coach and top-notch athlete. He’s incredibly intelligent, and fun fact: he started his YouTube channel before he even had an iPhone. Talk about a true OG!
Thank you, Sage, for dropping so many gems in this episode. It was a pleasure having you on the podcast, and I know so many people will benefit from the wisdom, insights, and lessons you shared.

In this episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I sit down with Fiona O’Keeffe, Olympic Marathon Trials champion, Stanford standout, and one of the most exciting rising stars in U.S. distance running.
Fiona made headlines by winning the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in her first-ever marathon, running 2:25:10 and securing her place on Team USA. But what makes her story even more powerful isn’t just the result. It’s the mindset behind it!
We dive into what it really means to take a leap into the unknown, trust your training, and show up with confidence. Even when you’re not sure what’s possible yet.
In This Episode, We Cover:
Key Takeaways:
Whether you’re chasing a PR, lining up for your first marathon, or working through self-doubt, this episode will leave you feeling empowered to take that next bold step!
Fiona is preparing for the Boston Marathon this Monday, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what she and the other women (and athletes) toeing the line will do. She’s incredible to speak with (super friendly) and I truly appreciate her taking the time out of her hectic build (as many of you can relate, it’s exhausting to add anything extra during peak marathon training), so thank you, Fiona!

WORK WITH RUNWITHALLI
In today's episode, RUNWITHALLI LIVE host Alli sits down with professional distance runner Katie Izzo, a 3x Team USA Cross Country athlete (2023, 2024, 2026) and recent 2nd place finisher at the U.S. Cross Country Championships to talk about what it really takes to rise through the ranks and compete at the highest level.
From her standout NCAA career at the University of Arkansas where she finished 3rd at NCAA Cross Country Championships, helped secure a national team title, and ran one of the fastest indoor 5Ks in collegiate history to now building her professional career in Flagstaff, Katie shares what it means to pursue your full potential with intention, grit, and consistency.
But this episode isn’t just for elite runners. It’s for YOU. The everyday runner balancing life, work, and training, looking to get better, stay consistent, and show up with purpose.
In this episode, we cover:
One BIG takeaway is how success isn’t about perfect training. It’s about stacking consistent days (& recovery ones, too) while building strength in ways most runners don’t! Katie’s journey proves that durability, mindset, and trusting YOUR process are what separate the good from the great!
Katie is one of the first people who welcomed me to San Diego after I reached out to her to go for a run (yes, I KNOW! That was bold!). She kindly said yes without hesitation, shared her favorite running spots around the city that I was unfamiliar with, and made me feel more at ease in a place that felt very unknown to me.
I am forever grateful. I also might’ve convinced her to join my post-run candy addiction, sharing gummies and Parakeet Cafe smoothies before parting ways. It was such a fun way to share miles with an incredible athlete who is not only a bada$$ runner, but also a genuinely kind human.
I’m so lucky to bring you this conversation on the pod today!

On today’s episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I’m joined by the incredible Lisa Goodin, an Olympic Trials Marathon Qualifier at 39, mom of three, wife, and all-around powerhouse and kind human!
This conversation is about so much more than running. It’s about what’s possible when you commit to something bigger than yourself, stay in the process, and give yourself permission to chase goals, no matter where you are in life. Lisa’s story will stick with you. Because let’s be real. So many of us hold ourselves back. “I started too late.” “I’m too busy.” “I’m not talented enough.” Lisa breaks ALL of those narratives. She pursued (and achieved) an Olympic Trials Qualifying standard while balancing motherhood, marriage, and life outside the sport. And she didn’t just survive the process. She thrived in it!
Questions we cover include:
Whether you’re an endurance athlete, an aspiring runner, or simply someone striving for growth in any area of life, I hope this conversation leaves you feeling energized, capable, and ready to take that next step forward. WORK WITH RUNWITHALLI
This week on RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I’m joined by David Machin, Lead Community Organizer for Health Poverty Action, the charity I’m fundraising for as I prepare to run the 2026 London Marathon.
I’ll be honest: there were things I learned in this conversation that I didn’t even know before diving into the topics David breaks down in this episode. It was eye-opening. I believe it will be for you, too.
We discuss the reality of health poverty and why it’s not a quick fix. This conversation goes beyond temporary solutions or ultra-processed “quick” foods. It’s about long-term infrastructure funding, access to healthier food options, and healthcare systems that sustainably serve communities.
David also explains why unrestricted funding is so critical. When funds aren’t tightly restricted, organizations have the flexibility to respond where needs are greatest. Something that’s especially urgent right now as government aid is being cut in ways we haven’t seen before, creating widening funding gaps across global health systems.
In this episode, we explore:
The hard truth is this: things may get worse before they get better. Health poverty is systemic and deeply rooted, leading to preventable illness, disease, and loss of life in communities with inaccessible health resources.
And yet what left me hopeful is that Health Poverty Action is doing the work anyway. They’re raising funds, building awareness, supporting community-led solutions, and continuing to show up despite immense challenges. Every single dollar goes a long way, but there is still meaningful work ahead!
This episode is a reminder that endurance athletes, and humans in general, can use their voices, platforms, and miles to help bridge gaps, elevate conversations, and push for change.
A Small Ask With Big Impact
If you’re able to donate, please know this: unrestricted funds give organizations the flexibility to act where the need is greatest. With government aid being cut and funding gaps growing, even small contributions matter more than ever. If donating isn’t possible right now, sharing this episode helps amplify awareness. And that matters, too.

Whether you’re an endurance athlete, new to running, or just curious, I hope this episode inspires you, deepens your understanding of why we run, and shows how our footsteps can create real impact by supporting charities and communities that need it most.

WORK WITH RUNWITHALLI
On today’s episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I’m joined by a very special guest, Bill Armstrong, Founder & CEO of Neversecond™.
Founded in 2020, Neversecond™ has quickly become my go-to fueling brand and has firmly established itself within the endurance and high-performance running community. Neversecond™ is the official fuel sponsor for RunWithAlli Coaching, and I truly believe this product can change the way endurance athletes approach fueling for marathons and beyond. Especially for those pursuing competitive performance for the long haul.
Before discovering Neversecond™, I was genuinely frustrated with fueling. After years of high-volume training and racing, I had tried countless products that caused GI distress, felt inconsistent, or simply didn’t meet the demands of endurance sport. That all changed when a friend in San Diego introduced me to Neversecond™. From the very first trial, the approach clicked. Precision, simplicity, and science-backed execution. I immediately knew this was the kind of fueling system serious endurance athletes need, and the kind I wanted our athletes using.
In this episode, Bill and I dive into the evolution of the Neversecond™ brand and the philosophy behind it. We talk about how Neversecond™ supports endurance and high-performance athletes, what truly sets the brand apart from other fueling companies, how runners can practically apply these products in both training and racing, how to build community around fueling, and so much more.
Questions we cover include:
Whether you’re an endurance athlete, an aspiring runner, or simply curious about the space, I hope this episode leaves you feeling inspired, better educated on fueling for running, and more aware of the endurance fueling landscape, and how Neversecond™ can support your athletic and endurance goals!

On today’s episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I’m joined by special guest and dear friend, Kimberly Penharlow.
Kimberly is a Global Executive Coach, leadership facilitator, and endurance athlete, and together we explore the powerful parallels between leadership and athletic performance. We dive into the importance of cultivating a growth mindset, helping people think differently through movement, and learning to see challenges through shifting perspectives.
Kimberly shares how running has helped her build confidence, courage, and resilience, both in her professional work and in life, and how the lessons learned on the road translate directly into bringing out the unique leader within each of us.
This episode is an elevated conversation about movement, mindset, leadership, healing, and growth.
Kimberly opens up about navigating profound personal loss and how marathon training helped her rediscover purpose, resilience, and self-trust. We dive into how running mirrors leadership development, requiring patience, consistency, mindset shifts, recovery, and strong boundaries.
You’ll also hear insights on:
Whether you’re an athlete, a leader, or someone moving through change, this episode will inspire you to lead and live with courage! In this episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I sit down with Delphine Godley Sellars, co-founder of Urban Community AgriNomics (UCAN). Just like we runners know the importance of fueling well and respecting the process, Delphine’s work is all about transforming food access, environmental justice, and community resilience in Northern Durham.
We talk about how a vision of healthy food, soil justice, and youth empowerment led Delphine and her sister Lucille to launch a nonprofit that’s already donated over 100,000 lbs of fresh produce, restored heritage land, and built bridges across generations through education.
I loved my conversation with Delphine Sellars about the parallels between UCAN’s mission of harvesting food and a runner’s journey. UCAN empowers communities to be less reliant on the outside world—just like running teaches us to discover the world one step at a time. We may not be gathering food on our runs, but we’re harvesting something different: lessons, resilience, and a deeper connection to nature, step by step, minute by minute, mile by mile.
Please tune in and get inspired by a grassroots leader who’s cultivating impact the same way we build fitness: one step, one seed, one act at a time!

Alexander Zakharin is an established realtor based in NYC and has worked with me (Coach Alli) for over two years. From running the streets in his hometown in Russia as a kid to taking his talents to the marathon and distance running world, Alex has set his eyes on a sub-3-marathon goal and has been chipping away with new PRs in distances ranging from the mile to the marathon to get there. Recently, Alex just ran a 3-hour and 4-minute marathon at the St. Jude Memphis Marathon last December and is working on the shorter, speedier stuff before tackling the distance again later this year. The fun is JUST getting started! Alex started before being coached by me with a 3-hour and 45-minute marathon and has experienced so much growth and progress since then! I'm thrilled to have him on this episode to share with the show's listeners about his journey, success being coached by the Runwithalli Brand, his journey to get to certain milestones, changes he has made throughout his training so far, and so much more!
Alex is always a pleasure to chat with—we always have a blast! He is one of the most charismatic, ambitious, and driven individuals I know, consistently pursuing ambitious goals in and outside his running shoes.
I hope this episode leaves you feeling empowered and inspired by what structure, perseverance, consistency, and the guidance of a coach can do. I'm excited to see what Alex does next! I hope you enjoy the listen and topics covered in this episode as much as I did!

Mary Denholm is an accomplished runner with an impressive list of accolades. She qualified for the U.S. Olympic marathon trials in 2020 and 2024 after years of training and participating in marathons following her collegiate career as an athlete, which wasn't easy. In today's episode, we briefly discuss her journey to success. Mary is an overall superstar, and I enjoy working with her as my run coach. During our chat, we talked about training, coaching, lessons learned, and her career in training. She is one of the hardest-working individuals I know in the sport, and she's just getting started. She's currently training for an ultramarathon, and I can't wait to see what she tackles next in her journey! If you're a runner who's hesitant to take a leap of faith and set that next big goal, this episode is a must-listen. Kristy Baumann is a Registered Dietitian from St. Paul, Minnesota, a 12x marathon runner, wife and mom to a 2 and 5 year old. She helps runners learn how to fuel properly to support their training and have a healthy relationship with food.
For years, she thought she was fueling well as a runner. But, found herself feeling sluggish on runs, having headaches and nausea after long runs, and experienced stomach issues and muscle cramps on race day.
She was focused on becoming “fat adapted”, always trying to manage her weight to run faster, and followed food rules. Food was constantly on her mind and she had a big sweet tooth. These were all signs of underfueling that resulted in recurring injuries and a poor relationship with food. It wasn't until she began to change her mindset around food, understand the science of nutrition and how the body works that she was able to learn to fuel properly, feel more energized and improve her running.
Now, she is on a mission to spread the message that restricting food and following fad diets is not the answer. Having a positive relationship with food is the foundation of fueling well as a runner.
I had such a fun time chatting with Kristy on the show, and I look forward to sharing the excellent advice, wisdom, and expertise discussed in this show with the world!

Hey there, runners and fitness enthusiasts! Welcome to the fourth episode of the Ask Alli Spin-Off, where we dive deep into training and running. I'm your host, Coach Alli, and I'm here to guide you on this journey to help you reach your fitness goals.
Today's episode of 'Ask Alli' takes a turn after viewing the rerun of the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and recapping the race, learnings, and takeaways for all of us to apply to our running training! I share my biggest takeaways and lessons for ALL of us to apply to our runs, to stay process-oriented, and to learn to love the journey, not the outcome of one race.
There are some wins to celebrate! Congratulations to three women who made the Olympic Team: Fiona O'Keeffe Wins The U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in her First-Ever Marathon, followed by Emily Sisson and Dakotah Lindwurm.
And to two men, brothers, and training partners with guaranteed spots on the men's Olympic Team, too! Conner Mantz ran 2:07:48 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon, and Clayton Young tallied a time of 2:08:00 in Chicago.
I am so happy and proud of all of us, of our sport. I am still hysterically crying, just feeling all the emotions and loving how well these people ran their hearts out the way they did today.
Thank you to everyone behind the scenes who made today's event possible and viewable for the public. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. We all appreciate it. I can't find a word for how I feel right now because inspiration doesn't do justice. 😭 I hope this episode leaves you feeling inspired and motivated to tackle your next goal, stay resilient, be open to facing controversy, and overcome your biggest fears to eliminate any self-doubt because you can. WE can.
Until next time!

Hettas Founder Lindsay Housman Joins Me For A Chat, sharing her high-performance, technical running shoes made for women to reach their full potential in sport and beyond.
Lindsay first reached out to me to share her new product and has given me, along with many female athletes I coach and some friends, the opportunity to test the groundbreaking shoe brand made for women by women! During today's episode, Lindsay shares how Hettas was created, which started when her daughters were told they were "too small" to join a competitive ski team. Lindsay worked on leveraging her connections in the industry, getting a grant, and beginning to fund research solely focused on female athletes. By doing so, Lindsay and her team have built a product to create better, more personalized experiences that all female runners deserve. Hettas has a vision to create products for women tailored to our physiology, biomechanics, and even hormonal cycles. A unisex foot doesn't exist, and Hettas brings the science backing the shoe's design to the forefront and how women can benefit from the product and Hettas brand. There are three versions, the Alma Cruise, Alma Tempo, and Alma Speed, that all have the same fit same VeloPropulsion system, but with different foam firmnesses to fine-tune your shoe lineup. HOW COOL! For any questions about Hettas, please contact the brand using the contact information below!

Coach Denise, The Marathon Whisperer, Joins Me For A Coaches Corner Chat On Getting You Prepared For The 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon!
Today marks 14 grateful years for Coach Denise's transformation into Denise 2.0. Denise started running in 4th grade because it was the only sport she could do. She has been running ever since and has leveraged running as therapy. Shortly after running her first marathon and wanting to get faster, she was solely focused on PRs and started losing the joy of why she began to run. The accident of getting hit by a car made her reassess her goals and have an entirely new world of appreciation for movement, for running. Denise continues to influence through action and helps others run marathons and chase down crazy goals while running WITH THEM. I'm excited to share her admirable energy and wisdom on another show episode! We chat about our WHY, racing, training for Chicago, and so much more in hopes of inspiring you to chase 26.2! We're here to help you! Denise will be in the last corral in Chicago to support all of YOU first-time marathoners pursuing your first 26.2 starting and finish line. Believe, show up, and put in the work; have guidance, friendship, support, and self-belief. Andrea even spoke to me about a semi-crazy goal, BUT it inspired me to chase it. Shikha Kaiwar, Author of Ice Cream Party, A Dear Friend Of Mine, & Runwithalli® Coached Athlete, Chats About Her Journey Going From An Injured Runner to Soon To Be Paris Marathon Finisher In 4 Months! Shikha had to, unfortunately, deal with confronting a quad injury which put her into tears. When I received her phone call on that day four months ago, I stopped everything I was doing. Her running means as much to me as it does to her, and I was sure that we'd do everything we could together to get her to toe her starting line of the Paris Marathon starting line pain-free! Her race is this Sunday, people! And yes, it's the PARIS FREAKIN' MARATHON! Bib #: 43893 if you want to cheer for her on the app!
In today's episode, Shikha and I discuss her approach to training and her journey throughout the past four months getting back to her energetic, usual self, refinding her love for the sport with my guidance, and her grit. Jaci focuses on "ALL THE THINGS" outside of a training plan. She received her run coach certification from Road Runners of America (RRCA). She can now help more runners by offering a holistic approach to running and training soon-to-be runners under the Runwithalli brand! Jaci builds training plans for each athlete's goals and races to meet where they're at in their fitness journey. Jaci loves getting to know the athletes she works with and helping them understand the parallels between running and life – any lesson that pops up during training can be applied to life!
Jaci is a firm believer that you need to eat to RUN, derived from her nutrition program that she pays forward and tailors to others' needs to help them develop a holistic training strategy. This approach allows Jaci to work with athletes to find their WHY and change their lives on a deeper level. This is a part of her story and past experiences shaping her coaching methodology.
In Jaci's own words, "It is my OBLIGATION to share how this opportunity has changed my life! How saying YES to myself and taking my health seriously changed my body, my mind, my running game, my relationship with food, my career path, my happiness, and my LIFE." John Zilly, Co-Founder of Vimazi, joins the show's Host, (me) Run Coach Alli.
Scott Tucker, Co-Founder of Vimazi, during a 6 am interval workout in 2017, had a brainstorm—shoes tuned to specific pace zones should respond more efficiently to the forces generated in running than non-tuned shoes. Scott conducted a research study with a team of scientists that proved the theory. He also discovered that tuning shoes by pace resulted in optimized cushioning.
With solid data and a patent pending on the tech, Scott grabbed his high school running buddy John Zilly, a marathoner himself, and together they formed Vimazi. Right at its inception, it committed to championing the spirit of running for all runners. They’ve done that by pursuing the scientific truth about running forces and footwear, wherever it leads. They also champion runners by personalizing shoes according to pace. So every runner gets the shoe they need to feel their best.

Dr. Yessis is considered this country’s foremost expert on sports technique. Dr. Yessis has written 17 books in the sports and fitness field including Biomechanics and Kinesiology of Exercise, Build A Better Athlete, Sports: Is It All B.S.?, and his latest, The Revolutionary 1x20RM Strength Training Program.
Today on the show, we discuss the value of running technique and how every runner's journey should begin by focusing on technique. We discuss the importance of understanding how to run faster, and it's not by just simply running more.
We discuss the three most crucial strength specialized running exercises any runner at any level should incorporate into a training program, when to do so, why it's beneficial, where to include it in a program, and how it can change how fast you run; by 80%! Dr. Yessis believes athletes should have access to proven practices that are known to enhance their abilities on the competitive stage, and he has that and more to offer on today's episode of the show!

San Diego has a special place in my heart since it's the race where I took 14 minutes off of my Los Angeles Marathon PR in 2016 and Qualified for the 2017 Boston Marathon with a finish time of 3 hours and 21 minutes while running it for the first time. As I came back from an injury and took as I took on coaching as my full-time profession, I continued to enjoy evolving with the sport of distance running. Last October, I snagged a new 19-minute PR competing during the pandemic in October, running the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon, finishing with an official time of 3 hours, 02 minutes, and 48 seconds. I'm training to run a faster marathon, and I'm honored to say I will be returning for the 25th anniversary Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon in June 2023. I look forward to partnering with Rock 'n' Roll San Diego next June and sharing with you some things that make this race my number #1 favorite marathon during my discussion with half marathoner and amazing Race Director, Meryl Leventon! The pictures say it all. The energy is electric; the crowds are contagious, and the weather is to die for - I cannot rave about it enough! Please don't take my word for it. Enjoy my discussion with Meryl about the course and the beautiful hills and energy that make this race so special! I look forward to partnering with the organization for future initiatives. The best has yet to come!

In today's solo episode, I answer questions about the long run in a marathon training program. I discuss who it's for, what to do for it, when to do it, where it goes in your schedule, why it's an essential training run in your marathon build-up, and how to progress your long run to become your strongest running self, tied with a little personal story you might be able to relate!
A few tips:
Get the experience to know you can do every long run you set out to do. Walk part of the long run if that's what your body needs. Be honest with yourself. Write your chapter to your book. You are your only competition.
Have a goal to fuel your purpose and push mile by mile. Thousands of strangers are enduring the same pain of the "longest run" on race day. Together, you can do it!
Keep yourself strong. Show up for yourself run after run, no matter what. Make no excuses. Push your body and your mind further. Do not give up. Endure the hurt because you are capable.
Fight. Push. Experience breakthroughs with dedication, resilience, consistency, and hard work. You'll believe in yourself and show up for yourself run after run. No matter what.
We're only aware of the fraction of the things we're capable of; our limitations are in our minds.
I suggest incorporating this mobility routine before and after your long runs to help you recover quicker. Keep your major joints and muscles limber and loosened up to prime your body for what's next long run after long run.
Here is a foam rolling tutorial to do before and after your long runs. Foam rolling is excellent self-care and keeping your muscle fascia loving you as it should! Recover smart around your longest training runs. Grab a foam roller on amazon using this link right here.

In today's solo episode, I answer a common question asked by several of my show's listeners. I am addressing knee pain after a 20-mile run and how to proceed with marathon training.
I answer the below question during today's episode:
Hello! I'm currently training for my second-ever marathon. I did a long run this weekend (20 miles) and since have had an odd pain in the back of my knee. Immediately after the run, I was limping heavily, finding I couldn't straighten my right leg. The pain has eased now, and most of the time, I can walk normally but now and then, it sort of spasms, and I find I have to lift my leg and ease it down again while supporting the base of my hamstring. I think I will try a light, slow five-mile run on Friday to test it. I'm due to run 12 miles on Sunday, but I'm wary of injuring myself further, as it's still not right. Do you have any experience of this? I'm worried that if I don't run at all this week, it could drastically affect my marathon fitness. I don't care what time I get; I want to finish. The marathon is on 4th October.
During today's episode, I address:

In today's episode, I discuss the pros and cons of running for time and running for mileage. The first thing to evaluate is what your ultimate goal is for running. That can dictate whether your current training program should consist of running for mileage and focusing on paces or whether it should focus on the amount of time you spend on your feet running. For those looking to run farther without stopping AT ALL (walking is still aerobic), time might be the best option for you. A mileage training model might be your best bet for those working towards a new 10K or Marathon personal best goal or training to qualify for the Boston Marathon with more specific paces to hit during your workout. Tracking your mileage is essential since you quantify your weekly mileage, and you want to monitor your pacing. A great way to hold yourself accountable if you're feeling solo is to hire a coach or compare your stats with your running friends working towards a similar goal, such as Qualifying for a BQ!
Keep a training log to keep yourself organized and motivated and hold yourself accountable. It's essential to track the total time spent on your feet AND distance week over week to assess your progress and see where you might need to pivot to adjust your program to meet you where you're at in your training.
I recommend keeping a daily journal when you feel self-deprecated and impatient to help keep you on track.
Below are bullets that might help you get started with your daily journal!
All of the above can affect your training runs and are essential to note during your training journey to better understand yourself as an individual first and then as a runner.
I cover why to choose time spent on feet versus mileage training for any distance running program and how to determine the way you should train based on where you live and where you can prepare! A mixture of time spent on your feet AND mileage could be beneficial for you, too, depending on your strengths and weaknesses. It depends on what YOU need!

Allison Tully, Co-Founder of Peak Performance Equipment and the InfinitiLoop explains the beginning of the product
It was the summer of 2018. My running buddies and I yawned as we strapped on our daily o'dark:30 run when one of our friends threw her tangled reflective gear to the ground, shouting, "FORGET IT! I'll run without anything!" We stood staring at the $150 worth of equipment, one piece held together by duct tape, another tied with twisty ties to keep it snug (yet it still flew all over the place), when I thought, "There has to be a better way." After having colleagues, friends, friends of friends, and so along try out the belt and provide feedback of all sorts, Allison and her husband came out with the final version of the InfinitiLoop,w which I wear on my early morning and evening runs myself!
Instead of looking like a Christmas Tree with all of the heavy gear and lights while you're out on your run, you can pick up the Peak Performance InfinitiLoop instead! The Loop illuminates the path ahead of you, making you visible to cars and other pedestrians around you, keeping you safe and away from the bad guys, and fits super lightly on your hips. It's super cute! Some key attributes of the belt are below:
Consolidation of Headlamp and LED illumination, all on one belt, no fuss
Bright 300 Lumen max output, dual-setting 360° wrap-around LED band
Light 3.8oz; you'll barely know it's there
Rechargeable Powered with integrated 1500 mAh Li-ion battery with micro-USB charge port
All-Weather Built to withstand whatever Mother Nature throws at you
See & Be Seen Illuminate the path ahead, eliminating visual glare and neck strain, and alerting you to objects in your way, making sure you're seen from all directions

In this episode, and to honor mental health awareness month, I share the top five strategies I've employed to keep myself mentally tough before running my first Marathon, the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon.
I explain how each of these five ways has grown with me as a person and as a runner.
Five ways to build mental toughness:
I discuss how having a growth mindset is an essential first step for being able to master your mental toughness and strategy while hitting the road running during a training run or a race! All the small things you do daily and consistently make the more important goal possible.
To change your mindset, you need to make yourself a priority and work on developing methods that will help you to change your attitude. My suggestion? Start with your larger goal, and then work backward. Hopefully, the strategies discussed in today's episode will give you some inspiration to motivate yourself to change the way you think about running and your ability to do it. YOU CAN!
Friendly Reminders:
Learning the hard way made me mentally disciplined in a different way. Because of this experience, I can help you figure out a mental strategy to nail your A race and be on your A-game!

In this episode, I share a little something about perspective and how it can shape your daily life. All of the content I speak about in Episode 73 is genuine, authentic, and real. If you tend to be a perfectionist a lot of the time or try hard not to be, this episode might be a great listen! You might learn a thing or two from listening in for anyone else! In these next 20 minutes, you will relate to one or some of my experiences! SO LISTEN! I share how I've handled the outcomes positively and negatively for each. I explain how these encounters have enabled me to grow, helped me accept more help from others, and allowed me to open my heart to new things while swallowing my pride, all of which continuously enable me to help others as you do the same.

Mark Watts, The British Marathon Runner, went from running a 4:35 Marathon in 2013 to a 3:30 Marathon running that same race, The Manchester Marathon, in 2017.
Ever since, Mark has been determined to run a Sub 3 Hour Marathon! He is currently in training for it with a Coach and all! Mark enjoys running with his group of running friends and he is known to be the cheerleader of the group, always pushing everyone else to keep on going! See what consistency and hard work can do?!
In Mark's own words: "If you ever question yourself why you should join a running club then dont, its one of if not the best thing you can do for your running. Its like meeting new friends, and they like running!"
Mark is truly an inspiration for the entire running community, as he truly practices what he preaches. He is a great example for other runners by sharing his story and showing others that anything becomes attainable once you put your head in the game, you get a structured training program and of course, you find a new family within the running community to join along in your journey!
We look forward to cheering Mark along his journey training to run that Sub 3 Hour race!
GO MARK GO!
