James 1:13-1813 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Jesus was wholly human and fully Divine! Did Jesus claim to be God? Not in those exact words. Was he accused of claiming to be God? As a matter of fact, He was. Jesus understood His identity, His Deity and Divinity, and His relationship with the Father. His response to his critics in context was profound. Too often in Christian camps we have a tendency of slinging around sound bites and Christian cliches without really explaining what we mean OR what Scripture says OR where we get that understanding. This message attempts to put just some of the pieces together in what it means when the Bible says Jesus was God.

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever youface trials of many kinds, 3 becauseyou know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so thatyou may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should askGod, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will begiven to you. 6 But whenyou ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts islike a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receiveanything from the Lord. 8 Sucha person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in theirhigh position. 10 But the richshould take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wildflower. 11 For the sunrises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom fallsand its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away evenwhile they go about their business.

When Jesus walked among us, it was his custom to reach out to those around him – to people in need. Jesus defied customs and traditions. And he was unpredictable. He did not meet every need the same way. But he met our deepest need – our need for a Savior, our need for salvation, our need for redemption, our need for a Lord. Some people he chose to heal – then and now. Others would wait for eternity. And yet God calls us – to trust him; to set our hearts and our hopes on him; and to follow His Son and His Word. The gospel reveals an unpredictable Jesus. And yet it’s this Jesus – who often shows up when we least expect him. It’s this Jesus – who works in ways we can’t always imagine and don’t often understand. Most people don't set out on a journey with plans to purposefully fail - just as most people don't set out getting married with plans to divorce. Erosion happens gradually. We wander off the trail. By the same token, most people don't set out to jeopardize their faith. But many wander - they "drift away." The author of Hebrews, using nautical terms when he writes "pay attention," meaning keep on course, and "drift away," referring to a ship that has lost its anchor, warns his readers of the dangers of drifting away; not once, but throughout the book. In this message, Pastor Rod paints a contrast between two significant lines of theological thought while emphasizing the overarching message of Hebrews 2:1-4.

Hebrews 7:23-8:2

23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

26 Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

8 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2 and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by a mere human being.
