When we talk about our bodies being a gift, it can be easy to think of all of the times when it hasn't felt like one.

Living in a broken world, we will experience results of The Fall in every area of life including our physical bodies.

In this episode, we are joined by Brooke Lovingood as she talks through her journey with cancer in her early 20s.

Together Brooke and Courtney talk about what it means for our bodies to be broken, why we experience physical brokenness, encouragement for someone who might be in that season right now, and what it looks like to still view your body as a gift even in light of the brokenness it will experience.

We hope this episode brings encouragement, hope, and truth to an area that can be so hard to wrestle with.

A lot of times, a specific goal is what leads us to pursue health and fitness. However, once we are pursuing health for God's glory it can be tricky to navigate what goal setting looks like. Should we set goals? Is it alright to feel proud once we accomplish a goal? How do we make sure that goal hasn't become an idol?

In today's episode, we are going to talk through all of that and more! Here are some main takeaways:

Ask yourself: If you were to write down your fitness goals, do they lean more toward self and striving OR serving + sanctification?

Pride means the ultimate motive behind our actions is about us. Rejoicing and praising God and getting excited about how the bodies He designed are changing points to Him.

Ultimately, goals give us a metric to track and be held accountable for the actions that result from the inner work that the Lord is doing in our lives.

4 Questions to ask yourself about goals:

  1. Is this goal increasing my discipline in a way that glorifies God?
  2. Does working towards this goal make me glorify God more or myself more?
  3. Am I actively rejoicing and praising God for His good design as I accomplish this goal (or part of it)?
  4. Does this goal grow my faith more than it grows any change in appearance or metric?
  5. If goal setting doesn’t come naturally to you Is there any area of my life that goal setting and requesting accountability might grow me in discipline for the sake of godliness?

Verses mentioned: Proverbs 16:9, Proverbs 19:21, Proverbs 21:5, Isaiah 32:8
