If you've been following me for a while, you know that I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to all the talk about manifestation, vibration, Law of Attraction, and all that jazz. I'm aware of what I do and what I focus on, and I see where I'm at in life. I'll admit I'm very fortunate. I also see the amount of work others are doing and how they struggle, and I have a hard time believing that their struggles are because they aren't trying hard enough or because they aren't thinking the right thoughts. It's hard to reconcile the simplistic messages around manifestation with the systems and structures in the world that make life easier for some and harder for others based on things outside of their immediate control. Plus, whenever I hear people talk about manifesting - it's typically something material and extravagant. Like, manifestation coaches who live in luxury homes or destination locations. We follow them because we think that if we have what they have, we'll be happier, and that's not the case.

It turns out I'm not alone in thinking critically about this.

Spiritual bypassing is one of those hot-button topics in online spaces. Yet, like many nuanced things brought up on the Internet, it's definition is often left vague. For instance - setting limits on what you let into your life is okay, encouraged even. On the flip side, going full-on "good vibes only" is seen as spiritual bypassing. Resilience is lauded as a sign that we're able to manage the change around us, while also being criticized as a buzzword to cover up the seemingly systemic struggles that some believe we shouldn't be facing.

Where do we draw the line on what's okay versus not-okay for our spiritual growth?

In this episode of spiritual af sundays we bring on Katy Valias, a fellow misfit entrepreneur, to talk about spiritual bypassing. We go deep into what "spiritual bypassing" is, and take a critical look at some of the behaviors that are often accused of being signs of spiritual bypassing. We also take a look at how social media has been contributing to this issue, for better or worse. Finally, we talk about another often-misunderstood spiritual concept: Shadow Work.

I had a lot of fun geeking out with Katy on these subjects, and I hope that you find this discussion insightful and that it supports your own spiritual explorations.

About our guest:
Katy Valias is a misfit entrepreneur who thrives on being authentic to herself as well as those she serves. She's currently building a cocktail accessory business and is diving into lost cocktails from the 1800's. She's also spiritual AF!

In this episode, we use Matthew Garnier's book, "Swept Up: Lessons from the End Times" as a launchpad for discussing the impact of our childhood experiences with religion. When people think of astrology, they typically think of sun signs - the astrological sign that your sun was positioned on the day you were born.

Newspapers and websites publish horoscopes, predicting events for people based on which month-long time period their birthday falls under. We claim that people of a particular sign have certain positive and negative traits. Oh, and to further identify with your sun sign - why don't you consider buying themed trinkets, perfumes, and candles?

There's got to be more to astrology, right?

In this episode of Spiritual AF Sundays, we bring guests Julia Knoll and Steve Cox from Astrologize It to discuss modern social media takes on astrology - their origins and how they can fall short. They also explain the concept of evolutionary astrology and how it differs from older methods used with this divination tool.

Many of us live in a hamster wheel of life - we get up, go to work, exhaust ourselves with our commitments, and eventually crash. We follow what's expected of us to the point of giving up on our own callings. Further, we feed our minds with news of what's going on in the world to the point where we feel overwhelmed and helpless. Is that truly a way to live?

In today's episode of Spiritual AF Sundays, we bring on Scarlet Porretta, Intuitive, Medium, and Manifestation Coach, to discuss the difference between living a fear-driven versus soul-driven life. We discuss the importance - as well as the danger - of labeling our emotions and experiences, the three-legged-table metaphor for wellness, and steps that you can take to live a soulful, intuition-driven life.

About our guest:
Scarlet uses her abilities to bring clarity and peace in the journeys of her clients.  Over the years, she's experienced how energies can interrupt manifesting and, ultimately one's Soul's Purpose, and feels a strong responsibility to share these experiences in hopes of making the life journey's of others smooth.

Being a Clair-Audient, the whispers she hears are life-changing, and sharing these messages from Divinity is an ability she takes seriously.

Scarlet's Soul Purpose is to provide tools to manifest and live the life they’re meant to live, and her mission is to help take away fear so we can live a soulful life.  One that is in alignment with our Soul purpose and push ego out the door!

When you think about the concept of gratitude practices, what comes to mind? Do you envision cute little journals prompting you to share what made you smile that day? Or perhaps people trying to find what to feel grateful about, even if the world around them is crumbling? Or perhaps, you haven't had TIME to think about such things because you've been so darn busy!

In this episode of Spiritual AF Sundays, we bring on guest Emma Hull, transformational life coach, to talk about how easy it is to integrate gratitude practices into your life. Emma will share the science behind gratitude, and how you can integrate these practices into your day to day life - it's as simple as brushing your teeth!

About our guest:
Emma Hull is a transformational life coach, reiki healer and yoga teacher. She led what some might see as a charmed life with a successful career, husband, lake house and ski chalet along with all the trappings. But she wasn't happy and continued to battle anxiety and depression daily.

Her life transformed when she realized that she had spent her whole life working towards a dream that wasn't even hers. When she began trusting her intuition she found the inner strength to first imagine, and then take steps to realize a whole new life.

She now lives life her way, a spacious life that is in alignment with her values, and spends her days fulfilling her Soul Purpose: Inspiring and guiding you to create a life you are excited to wake up to every day!

Some religions preach of a period known as the "end times" and use rather vivid prophecies and signs to mark that area. What if those messages weren't literal but were instead allegorical? And if we live in that timeframe, what does that mean for us and how we may want to live?

Instagram-perfect is no longer just for fashion models. Whenever we turn to social media we see spiritual healers with curated feeds talking about how they have their stuff together. At the same time, we see others going to cringey lengths to be emotionally vulnerable, not knowing the fine line between authenticity showcasing something that may be better off on reality TV. If that's not enough, we keep getting messaging that we need to heal ourselves, often by facing our darkest issues head-on.

In this episode of Spiritual AF Sundays, we're bringing on Author, Empathic Mentor, and Master Trainer for EFT International Jennifer Moore to explore how hustling and working on the biggest, messiest emotional issues may not be the best route to healing ourselves. We'll also discuss how social media encourages performative acts of vulnerability and how new healers face unique challenges when trying to understand their own limits. Finally, we'll talk about the need to focus on our own healing process in addition to helping others, as well as introduce listeners to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

When we were young, we leaned on others for support and guidance. It makes sense. If you're a child, you should probably listen to your parental units, as well as mentors on what is okay to do.

And as we grew older, we looked to outside signs of what it means to be successful or what it means to have acceptance. However, there's no instruction book on learning to listen to yourself, so we run the risk of living our lives based on other people's standards. How do we learn to stand on our own?

In this episode of Spiritual AF Sundays, we bring on kinesiologist and archetypal life coach Amanda Kate to share her own story of healing and the importance of being able to distinguish between your own inner voice's callings and that of society.

Have you ever wondered how spirituality and politics are interconnected? Or why we become so polarized by the media? In this week's episode of Spiritual AF Sundays, we bring on Marc Wendt, Mens Wisdom Coach and Transformation Agent Provocateur, to explore these questions and more as we dive into the complex world of politics and belief systems.

We'll take a closer look at how breaking free from social conditioning can help us see things in a new light, and why modern political discourse often falls short of productive debate. And speaking of debate, we'll discuss the difference between healthy debate and toxic arguing.

But perhaps most importantly, we'll delve into the concept of truth - what it is, how it's defined, and whether it can be both objective and relative at the same time. And to wrap things up, we'll introduce you to Democracy 2.0 - a new approach to democracy that could revolutionize the way we think about politics. So join us for an eye-opening conversation on spirituality, politics, and everything in between!

Storytime: Mary had been feeling exhausted. She was a mom and a successful professional in her late thirties with a demanding job, long hours, and unrelenting pressure to succeed. All of which had been taking their toll on her physical and mental well-being.

She decided it was time to give herself a break and booked an appointment for a luxurious facial. After the experience, she realized that although her facial had provided her with a brief respite from her busy life. It had done nothing to address the underlying issues, causing her stress and exhaustion.

This experience was a wake-up call for Mary, and us, singling an opportunity to rethink our approach to self-care. The truth is that materialistic forms of self-care, like facials and vacations, only provide a temporary relief.

In this episode of Spiritual AF Sundays, we'll look at how we can reframe self-care as a tool to break away from hustle culture. We'll explore different ways to take care of ourselves, individually and as part of a collective.

One of the arguments used to defend the legitimacy of a belief or practice is called the appeal to tradition.  This is a view that something must have existed for a long time to be valid. This stance comes up when examining faiths outside of the "mainstream culture," such as Wicca and modern forms of Paganism. However, does this argument of appealing to tradition hold up when looking at Christmas?

In this episode, we'll examine how the celebration of Christmas has changed from its earliest roots to its modern form.  What does the evolution of Christmas over the past nearly two millennia say when it comes to current attempts to revitalize earth-based religions? Is older necessarily better? And how much influence is okay before a belief system is seen as deviating too far from its core?

Over the past few years, artificial intelligence has made leaps and bounds in its abilities as it redefines how we interact with technology. Such things as robotics, machine learning, natural language processing, and big data are only a few ways that AI has been transforming virtually every industry out there. If your industry deals with any data, any type of trying to predict what people want, it likely uses AI.

As for common concerns regarding this emerging technology, it's usually apprehension around a couple of different things. Job security or the ability for people to continue making an income, privacy issues when it comes to that data, even copyrights when it comes to that. And then also accuracy regarding these data models, making decisions or predictions.

And these are all valid issues to consider. But perhaps the most thought-provoking question that AI raises today is how it changes our understanding of consciousness. So we're going beyond the practical concerns, starting to go philosophical. Will AI eventually have any autonomy? Will it have free will? Can we teach it to make moral decisions? And then flip to focus, what does AI's development say when it comes to traits that we initially thought were either uniquely human or unique to living beings, like creativity, innovation, complex decision-making, and empathy?
