After two years, and five seasons, I can finally say, let's follow up.
I share an intimate conversation with Colleen Rodriguez, Executive Director of the LJD Jewish Family and Community Services of Jacksonville- my first guest from my first episode. We tackle the topics we touched on then, that still trigger both of us today and reflect on the evolution of community support over the past 35 years, particularly focusing on where the greatest needs still require our attention- at the base of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: Food, Shelter and Security.
Colleen shares alarming statistics, revealing that the MaxBlock Food Pantry had an unsettling surge from 170,000 to 239,000 meals annually, which signifies the harsh realities of food insecurity. We discuss how the organization has adapted its services to meet diverse needs—from the homeless to those living in temporary housing—by tailoring food offerings.
The conversation shifts to affordable housing challenges, emphasizing the struggles of working families. Colleen details the Eviction Diversion program where we meet hardworking individuals suddenly thrust into challenging situations. This episode sheds light on how in some cases, it would not matter if a vehicle repair is made or not- the cost could lead to an almost guaranteed life of homelessness that can't be recovered from.
We also touch on the importance of mental health resources, noting recent advancements in awareness and funding, yet acknowledging ongoing capacity issues. We emphasize the holistic, supportive environment at JFCS designed to break down barriers to mental health resources, ensuring that those in crisis find timely and compassionate help.
Overall, the episode underscores the interconnectedness of food security, housing, and mental health, and the crucial role of community support in addressing these challenges. You can't heal what you don't feel... and we are grateful that Colleen and her team feel strongly, react quickly and support avidly.

I'm not much of a party person. The reason I tell you this is because I will be turning 50 in two years and I'm starting to emotionally plan... to mentally prepare... to pull off the party I've always wanted, "Schmoozapalooza!"

Back in the 1900s, my dad would set up the dining room table "one night, once a year for David, the insurance guy." There were manila folders and legal pads, different pens- and one of the four-clicker-color-kinds. This insurance meeting was so serious that there were two different kinds of Stella D'oro treats and an Entenmann's coffee cake. We were also instructed to stay upstairs... which meant I had to listen from the top of the staircase.
What was once a very personal relationship, has shifted to a couple of clicks online- and the confusion of insurance decisions often cloud its primary purpose: providing the reassurance of safety.

I made an honest mistake without malicious intent.
We move on to a meaningful conversation.
When I was little, we knew what racists were. There were enough people of different colors and different languages, from different parts of the globe, on East 5th Street that you either were obviously a "Goonie" or you weren't. And all it took to be one of us was total acceptance that we were all different, that's it. So if someone brought a friend over, you better make sure they were like us, accepting. Except since most of us were actually siloed by our differences during the daytimes- by yeshiva or Catholic school, by mosque or kingdom hall...
Once they hit our block, you were cool until you weren't.
So when did asking questions start to become the first sign that you might be offending me? And that's what we're going to tackle today.

Following the events of October 7, 2023, I feared that all of the work I had done to become a cycle-breaker would become derailed. The propaganda filled images and messages seemed like they were unleashed concurrent with the atrocities upon my Homeland. I worried I would lean into the devastation, my very real and growing fear, and perhaps the fury that was simmering beneath the confusion at all the noise.
So before I scorched the Earth, I knew I had to recalibrate my "why."
Dr. Elliot tRosenbaum, a seasoned clinical psychologist, joins me for an intimate chat that might just shift the way you engage with the world. Together, we're unveiling insights on why cultivating compassionate connections through listening is more than just a therapeutic tool—it's a transformative life strategy.

Dr. Elliott B. Rosenbaum is a board certified clinical psychologist with years of experience in the court room. As chief of mental health at Naval Hospital, Jacksonville Florida, Dr. Rosenbaum ran the largest military mental health clinic in the U.S. southeast region where he supervised a team of 28 psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers and mental health technicians. He was responsible for the mental health care of 50,000 active duty Marines and Sailors and their families. Dr. Rosenbaum also served as chief forensic naval psychologist where he conducted and oversaw over 1,000 mental health evaluations including fitness for duty evaluations, secret clearance evaluations, fitness to stand trial, and assisted in all NCIS related inquiries. He is an experienced expert witness and has routinely been found by courts to be a highly qualified expert in the field of clinical psychology in both criminal and civil cases. Trained at Johns Hopkins University and The George Washington University, Dr. Rosenbaum completed his internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital and served at the NSA conducting mental health evaluations on new agents. He is a recognized authority on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and currently serves as Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a reservist clinical psychologist. Dr. Rosenbaum is currently in private practice in Jacksonville, FL where he specializes in forensic mental health evaluations.

I can remember the first person I blocked on social media.
She unabashedly took to my comments to give unsolicited feedback, judgment and suggestions. She wrote that I was sharing too much personal information and I would never find a husband if I kept this up. She complained that I should show a better version of myself online “like everyone else.”
And I remember calling my sister to complain about it.
“Mommy is being so mean to me.”
“You know you can block her,” said my much younger sister.
No, I hadn’t known.
So when did the generational divide stop affecting how we show up- in real life and online?

Back in the 1900s, as a child of immigrants to the United States, I remember always having to learn it on my own. My parents weren't familiar with American cultural norms and my world was pretty narrow. If I wanted to understand how private school girls acted, I watched "The Facts of Life." When it was time for high school, thankfully, "Beverly Hills 90210" launched.
But when college came around, well, there wasn't a show that showed you how to apply, what picking a major meant, or how not to get overwhelmed and spiral... And how to recover if you did.
So what happens when you can only follow society’s script for so long?

Back in the 1900s there was a period of time that you could not safely stroll the streets of Manhattan for fear.
I’m not talking about the high profile cases that made the news. Those weren’t the things that scared me. Violence that had statistics meant there were people following and tracking those crimes and those criminals. Also, money was invested into researching ways to avoid becoming a statistic.
But for me, the real stories that didn’t make the big news, was people being hit in the head by a brick, or a random jumping in the park. A sudden suffering subjected to an innocent by a stranger. It could be someone mentally ill or high on drugs… Or teens daring each other. And it was a more common occurrence. (And by the way, that story could be repeated about what has become the "Baked Apple" of today.)
So, who can we put our faith into during times like those? Like these?
What is Faith? And that’s what we’re going to tackle today…

For as far back as I can remember charity has been ingrained in me, like challah braided into my DNA. From my very first nursery school classroom, at my very first circle time, I recall proudly clutching my shiny copper penny and eagerly waiting that tzedaka box to get to me.
Whether it’s passing the plate or the pushka, the value of giving is part of our foundation, so why does giving ittoa"Foundation" sound scary to someone like me?

Growing up in 1970s, New York City, I felt like I was always living under construction. Things that got built for people to live in, single or multi-family- were filled instantly with residents, as quickly as their various family members were able to sponsor them, and shops too.
Some stayed open and some didn't make it, but for every business that closed down, something quickly took its place. Nothing stayed vacant. People were hustling to make work for their families and communities. The cycle of residential and commercial... or commercial and residential... was constant, and we didn't notice which came first.
They developed concurrently, or so it seemed to me.
So who are the people in your neighborhood that think about what fits where in cities and, most importantly, for whom and why?
And that's what we're going to tackle today...
Zoom out a little... No, a little more.
There, do you see it? You might need binoculars.
Not that landscape. Not just the tall buildings...
(Especially not them... yet...)
If you squint just right, you'll catch the silhouette of a city that's changing over the years. Block by block... Neighborhood by neighborhood...
Lower your binoculars and walk around in a circle.
It's not the architecture that whispers, 'I'm new'; It's a whole village- or 'ville- of thought, strategy, and vision folded into the landscape.
Who knits this urban quilt of tall buildings, working streets, and bustling squares into the tapestry we call Jacksonville? It's time to unveil the unsung wizards of our urban wonderlands—the urban planners- who mastermind a mere metropolis and forge it into a beacon of progress and community.
Today, my guest is Sondra Fetner, an experienced land use lawyer and urbanist. She joined the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund after running an urban development consulting firm for three years. Sondra realized, working as an attorney, her impact was only as great as her client's desire. She decided it was time to work for beliefs and ideals, that would lead to community for her kids.

This week's Honorable Mensch is Darnell Smith.
Darnell has used his deep, earnest and compassionate relationship with the business, health and safety, philanthropic, spiritual and political community- to navigate his way, first and foremost, as a trusted stakeholder and custodian of care for this city.
As the executive on loan through a contract with the City of Jacksonville and Florida Blue, he is accepting a call to serve us- and for that we are exceptionally fortunate.

The composer, INBAL COHEN-RASNER, is the CLASSICAL COMPOSITION WINNER of the 2022 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards,
*Inbal was born and raised in Haifa, Israel, but currently share dual United States citizenship. She is a board certified and fellowship trained Radiologist specializing in adult Neuroradiology and Pediatric Radiology. She is also a music Composer and concert Pianist. She gained her formal classical music education in piano and music composition at the Music Conservatory school in Haifa, Israel. She received her medical degree from The Technion Institute. After completing her Radiology residency in 2004, she moved from Israel to the United States to further pursue specialized Radiology Fellowship training in Pediatric Radiology and Neuroradiology.
Throughout her medical career, she continued to write original music scores and perform at local music events. Around 2019, she started to expand her interest in composing music for films. She was the grand winner in the Oticons Faculty International Film Scoring competition 2021 and was nominated as the Top Finalist in the Film Scoring Academy of Europe contest 2022.
She has been practicing medicine her entire adult life, and thoroughly enjoys her career as a physician, but at this point, she wishes to pursue her true passion as a music composer.*Inbal is a woman who is INSPIRED AND INSPIRING!
She propels me to believe- over and over- that our transferrable skills can be as far away from where we began... We only need to follow the music that we hear.

So if people are telling us who we present as from the time we are little, should we believe them?

This week's Honorable Mensch is Barbara 'Babs' Colaciello, founder of Babs Lab, storyslam and Untold Stories.
Babs is a multifaceted artist and educator who teaches the art of improvisation, guiding students to discover their voices, tell their stories, create collaboratively and grow as leaders. Barbara began her career working with Andy Warhol at the factory in New York City as the advertising director of Interview Magazine. During this time, barbara continued to pursue her passion for acting and studied with legends while navigating culturally impactful projects in New York City. In 1993, Babs, just like Yaya and me, was relocated to the first coast by someone else's gig and went to work making magic happen.

The best way to explain parenting is, you don’t know what you don’t know.
I remember my parents saying, "this didn’t come with a manual."
Then I remember there being a manual... In fact, so many manuals on how to raise the exact kind of kid you want to raise. The formulas... the exercises... People had spent so much time absorbed in the psychology of the child, that for a while, we forgot the mom. But in a society where the people who raise us are losing their rights and their voice... How can we raise them up?

Two decades ago I was a city girl living the city life walking distance to everything. And part of being a city girl living in a city is that its heartbeat and yours start to sync up. You start to care about its streets and sidewalks, the people and purpose that blend together to infiltrate every possibility for potential.
Because, as a bridge and tunnel girl from birth, always just on the other side, I had never really gotten to know it intimately. Me and the city, we were on a get in, get what you need and get out basis. But can we overcome our fear of the mess we remember and move past it to enhance our relationship and build up trust again?

I’m always talking about my start as an immigrant's kid.

Back in the 1900s, when I was away at college, the first high holidays rolled around. It was such a schlep home, that I opted to stay on campus.
Considering this was my first time not sitting beside my mommy at my parents' place of worship where I had grown up, I remember being excited to shop around. I had only heard of other denominations. And after 12 solid years of hardcore religious studies- plus a gap year in Israel- I was ready to explore.
I felt so much like Goldilocks attending service after service… For this I was too hard and for this I was too soft… But there was no place that suggested I was “just right enough.” And I wish there had been a place to engage in conversations- of all kinds!- while I was trying to figure it out, so that I could remain connected instead of pulling away.
SO, should we provide spaces for young adults to build relationships around their spiritual differences in an effort to contribute to a future of unity?

I have a friend who has been seeing a therapist for about 15 years and one day she says, “I feel like this is all still here.”
And the therapist responds, “it always will be.”
My friend becomes upset and she shouts, “how could you say that? I thought, after all, this time I would come to an aha moment and feel relief and it would be gone.”

Back in the 1900s when I was a student, we learned something that was not history or social studies. It was called “Current Events.”
At the start of the 7th grade, I brought home a mimeographed permission slip that asked for cash or a check so that a copy of the New York Times would be delivered to my homeroom desk, Monday through Friday. I learned to love the sections... each day a different “special.” More importantly, I learned to love language. And while my grandparents read the Forvarts in Yiddish, and my dad brought home the Jewish Press each Friday- I had a well rounded view of my borough, my city, my country and the world.
Mrs. Goldman would assign us the task of reading the daily paper, choosing an article of interest and summarizing it by Friday. At the end of the year, one could reflect on the binder where we had cut out articles- underlined words to search for definition and summarized… And in my case, see a pattern.
I learned that the “opinions” (that I had too many of according to my family) was what made this prose legendary. And also because I met Russell Baker. Not literally. But I met the power of a voice and perspective. And it shaped mine forever. And then I met Mark Woods- again, not literally- until now!
Mark Woods is the Metro Columnist for the Florida Times-Union, the Jacksonville, FL daily paper and a recipient of the Eugene C. Pulliam Fellowship. He's the author of LASSOING THE SUN: A YEAR IN AMERICA'S NATIONAL PARKS, and awarded the gold medal for general non-fiction in the 2016 Florida Book Awards.

In my very first episode I spoke about societal needs. The ones we know about… and the ones we are still learning to understand.
Sometimes just thinking about all that NEED is unbearable. And so I remember to think like Mr. Rogers and look for the helpers.
And then I remind myself that I’m not a bystander- I’m an upstander! So it is MY responsibility to be the change I wish to see… And I seek ways to become the helper. And if I’ve inspired someone else to try it too… Well then, that’s how we change our community, our city and the world…
And that’s what we are gonna tackle today…
Would you like to round up? We’ve all heard the question. Usually it depends on the cause. I’ve become very intentional with my “impulse give”- you know, the opposite of an impulse buy. But when I feel especially down, the New Yorker in me craves a slice of cheese pizza and the opportunity to do a mitzvah (a good deed)… which is how I met my guest today.

Back in the 1900s, after you took your SATs, colleges and universities would flood your parents ACTUAL, LITERAL mailbox with brochures and catalogs.
While this sounds like a “barrage of garbage”… it was, in fact, very wanted and welcome because back then, the only other way to know about colleges was in your guidance counsellors office, the local public library, or if you bought the annual guide yourself. There was no “look it up online.”
The one that I was obsessed with was Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. As a city girl, the beauty of the buildings and the nearness to the beach in those glossy, full-color photos were the dream. I never even toured it. Until I was a local.
Before I got that brochure I had never heard of St. Augustine, and to be honest- I never even thought about it again. Until 2012, when I read a letter called “Why We Went.” And that’s what we’re going to tackle today…

In the early 2000s I worked near South Street Seaport in NYC. Each day I would take my lunch overlooking the East River- the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges visible from my office. A decade later, based on the upper west side, every day instead of lunch, I would lace up my sneakers, and run along the Hudson River. The water propelled me with its energy- its life.
My father arrived by boat on it and Lady Liberty waved from it. But what did I know about rivers... And how often did I think about taking care of it?
And that’s what we are going to tackle today...
It’s been nearly a decade since my arrival here, and the ICONIC St. Johns River serves as the heart of Jacksonville, providing both majestic views and purpose for both residents and visitors. As the state’s longest river, the St. Johns River is also a centerpiece connecting history, fishing, transportation, and more into the personality of Northeast Florida.

Back in the 1990s, my daily commute to downtown Manhattan had me shlepping past the Fulton fish market to my fancy office building with windows overlooking South Street Seaport. The Meatpacking District, Hell’s Kitchen, Harlem… Undesirable and not on a real estate listing anyone would touch. Until someone had the vision to see the possibility and make that investment. And once it started… Well, fish market became FiDi and Meatpacking was rebranded as the Highline and it all suddenly seemed so obvious...
So by the time I got to Jacksonville, the fourth fastest growing city in Florida, the options seemed endless. If downtown can be the Manhattan equivalent, well, Riverside, Springfield, Brooklyn are the local versions of Riverdale, Sunnyside and- well- Brooklyn. And I can see it clearly... So can my guest, she is third generation Jacksonville, a fixture in the local landscape of art, culture and entrepreneurship.
But I wonder, when we can’t see someone else’s vision, should we look harder or stop looking? And that’s what we’re going to tackle today...Emily Moody is the Director of Community Engagement for Future of Cities where she's helping to co-create a vibrant arts and innovation community at Phoenix Arts District. In April, I attended an Interfaith Panel Discussion followed by a Kosher for Passover- Iftar break the fast.
The discussion was about what comes after death… But I was totally taken by the life in the room. The connection to God, and commitment to curiosity, was palpable. There seemed to be no wrong answers. The program began with the Jewish evening prayers and concluded with something I have never before stood to witness- but have heard hundreds of times before- in Israel- the Muslim call to prayer.
How is it that a woman who has felt the holiness of Jerusalem, felt deja vu in Jacksonville? And that is what we are going to tackle today…
In this episode I speak with the co-host and moderator of that evening, Rev. Rebekah Hutto, the Executive Director of the Interfaith Center of Northeast Florida.
In addition to being a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Hutto is also an accomplished author, having written several children’s books, “The Day God Made Church” and “Paul and His Friends”, as well as contributing to various curricula.
Rev. Hutto is a Master of Divinity graduate from Duke University Divinity School and received an undergraduate degree from Wofford College. Her husband, Rev. Dr. B.J. Hutto, is the senior minister at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church.

And that is what we are going to tackle today…**This episode’s guest, John Delaney, is the Flagler College President, the President Emeritus of the University of North Florida, and the former Mayor of Jacksonville, the largest city in land area in the continental U.S.
His tenure is marked by the Better Jacksonville Plan, a $2.5 billion capital improvement plan, and the Preservation Project, creating a 100-square-mile park system, the largest of its kind for a city in the country. He served two terms and was elected without opposition for his second term, all of which he talks about in this episode.

Once upon a time, when I was a young and idealistic student, I used to look at the world and see all the solutions that seemed SO obvious. And so I tried to change the world. But I was just one person. And mostly inexperienced… And that didn’t work...
So I went back to my city and saw all the ills facing society and set to telling them how to fix it. But they couldn’t hear me…
So I looked at my community and shared all the ways they could do better… But they weren’t listening…
So I went back to my house and saw where my family needed to improve- and thought they would be thrilled with the free advice! But that alienated them mostly…
Because I hadn’t yet learned the best lead by example…
So I looked at myself in the mirror and understood that the ONLY person I could REALLY change is MYSELF. And I got to work.
And over time, my family felt the impact and joined me…
And WE created a shift in our community… And together with our community we reframed the focus of our city.
And now, my friends, together- me, you, our community, my guests, this city…WE will SHAPE the landscape of the world.
**And that is what we are going to tackle today…
My guest today is a man who has faced brutality, scrutiny, hostility… Which makes the fact that he resonates with dignity, empathy and humanity a testament to his place in our culture.**
**A survivor who thrives and in spite of EVERYTHING believes that “you must leave them better than you found them,” the first black Sheriff of Jacksonville, former President of his Alma Mater- Edward Waters University, Mr. Nat Glover.
Mr. Glover's memoir, Striving for Justice- A Black Sheriff in the Deep South, will be released on Juneteenth through the Frederick Douglas Family Initiative.

Upon entering the main sanctuary of every synagogue that I have ever been in, I recall seeing the following verse embroidered, inscribed or emblazoned above the arc, דע לפני מי אתה עומד- Know before whom you stand.
In comedy circles we say, know your audience.
When I am out with my husband in a group, I sometimes see that look in his eyes and nudge him before he tells that joke I know he is about to tell, to “read the room,” knowing this group won’t get it.
Each of these clichés seem rather obvious, and when we think about ourselves- we imagine our communication style will always be met with positivity.
**But, in this fast paced world where we engage with so many different people on so many different platforms, what happens when we feel ourselves losing the room, losing our cool or our composure? How can we tap into all of our tools to effectively engage, enlighten, and inspire?
And that is what we are going to tackle today...

Have you ever heard the term “safe word?”
While YOU may be thinking 50 shades of grey, I’M talking 50 shades of red.
As the primary caregiver to my children, their evolving emotional, physical and mental needs are becoming more and more… consuming to me.
Their booboos are no longer cuts and scrapes, rather a myriad of moments that are shaping their formative years. Those newly emerging personalities and emotions that I am teaching to self-regulate- all while trying not to crush their tiny little spirits- is challenging on its best day.
Their homework requires patience- from both of us. I am constantly answering questions that I think to myself, “aren’t they too young to know this?”
And by the end of the day the disarray, disagreements, and the disdain over my husband and kids “she’s yelling again" faces has me seeing red.
Probably 50 shades of it.
The fact is, my spouse, the primary breadwinner, has his own set of concerns that consume him- and they are equally important. It is what HE does, with God’s blessing, that enables us to have this wonderful life.
But why are they always walking past him to shout “mom!” when they need something? And when did “mom” the noun become an action verb synonymous with “parenting?”
**And that is what we are gonna tackle today….
My guests today are two friends, who turned into moms, then turned into unexpected entrepreneurs. And like the moms they seek to serve, they both faced many common challenges related to the healthcare, workforce and societal systems in place that make today's standards for parents nearly impossible.**

**Boro Park, Brooklyn, New York circa the late 70s where I grew up was a mix of multiculturalism- if you count Irish, Italian and Jewish as diversity. When my dark, Sephardic looking Israeli mom went apartment shopping with her very blonde and blue-eyed, soon to be mother-in-law, she was asked to wait outside. Repeatedly. The “cleaner” was not welcome for a tour.
About a year later, as she strolled me down 13th Avenue- my blue eyes just like my Daddy’s- she was asked if she was the nanny? or the cleaner? By this point she understood that ‘cleaner’ didn’t mean the same thing as ‘cleaning lady’. She did NOT look Eastern European.
Hearing my mom tell me these stories as a teenager myself, and seeing her face flush with renewed shame and embarrassment of being dismissed because of her appearance, made me empathize for that 18/19/20 year old immigrant kid.
Knowing that my grandparents were survivors of a nearly successful, systematic genocide because of THEIR race made me understand that I had to have my finger on the pulse of progress- by asking myself AND others, when did you first notice you were different from other people? OR Did you notice other people were different first? And that is what we are going to tackle today...

Can I tell you a secret…? It wasn't until I was in middle school that I was aware of “mixed marriages” which, by the way, in MY community meant someone marrying not another Jewish person. Growing up in my shtetl of first-generation immigrants, we married amongst our mother tongue- which was pretty much the same as our religion. Capisce? Lamurit? Entiendes? Farshteist?
By the time I was in high school, “mixed marriage”**had morphed into “intermarriage”... And by my twenties, it was rebranded as “Interfaith.” But, is Interfaith about more than just religion… Is it code for something we aren’t quite clear on in the context of community - and that is what we are going to tackle today?

**For nearly 45 years, my Dad would mark a Valentine's Day, which also happens to be my mom’s birthday, with chocolate and flowers. A large dozen roses or giant box of chocolates for my mom and single rose or smaller chocolates for my 3 sisters and me. But when my own husband gifted me with chocolates and flowers on our first married Valentine’s Day, I was seriously disappointed and underwhelmed.

**Remember, the show, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, he told kids when they saw something scary to “look for the helpers.” We have scary things going on in our backyard - but we also have those helpers Mr. Rogers told us to look for.
Most recently, when he saw the need to be that helper, he and his family “walked the talk” by establishing the Together Strong Community Fund. It’s a vehicle to use "education, conversation, and interaction to combat the root causes of bias."

**Engaging in thoughtful conversation with people who are dynamic affords me the opportunity to learn from others. As global citizens, we want to be open to varying viewpoints and respectfully relate to one another in all areas.
But when it’s just the Board of me, myself and I- you know those conversation you have in your head… That you don’t want to admit to…. Even to yourself… Hi, I’m Suze, and my superpower is saying stuff out loud, so that MORE of us feel LESS alone. So... buckle up!**
Recently, I came across these letters that I had written several years ago, when I was at a low point. The reasons for that low point are not that important. The purpose of those letters was a cry for help, and one that only I could answer.
It was clearly important to me at the time to put down on paper how I was feeling. When I found those letters recently- years later!- I admit I was too ashamed to even read through them. I’m glad I did though, because here is what I learned: we gotta feel the feelings. We’ve gotta go through them… To get over them… In order to heal from them.

When I found out that I was going to "produce forth an heir," I very quickly realized that while all I legally needed to exit the hospital with my tiny human was a car seat, I was now in command of all of the rules, responsibilities, schedules and appointments for said tiny human- and now his sister also- until they are teenagers.
By contrast, my guest today, United States Navy Commander Alexa Jenkins, selected a path that STARTED as a teenager- which was heavily focused on rules, responsibility, schedules and appointments.
How does someone become a professional rule follower? And does attitude matter when giving and following rules? Can those rules be used to inspire others and make a better community for us all? And that is what we are going to tackle today...
