We are Marly Hanson and Michelle Dorrill. Two creative entrepreneurs who met over a business transaction and ended up being best friends. Michelle is a photographer and Marly does social media consulting for small creative businesses. Our podcast Blooming Anyway is all about overcoming challenges and finding the inspiration to grow even in places we never expected to thrive. We cover topics like work life balance, managing our emotions, personal and professional growth, and all things entrepreneurship.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself and your life is to pivot. Both of us are going through seasons of pivoting and its time we do the same with the Pod. While we absolutely love sharing education - we also feel a little burnt out with the amount and frequency of sharing educational content. We also feel like we’ve been trying to show up as perfect business coaches when in reality all we want to do is be your virtual bestie giving you encouragement as fellow entrepreneurs. So things are going to shift a little around here and we can’t wait to share some new content with you soon!
As an adult summer tends to be BUSY. Work picks up, obligations for holidays and family events are still just as high, we have client conversations and expectations - time doesn't stop like it used to feel like it did in the summer when we were kids. If you don’t write down what you want to do or make plans to do it, time just passes you by and before you know it you’ve missed an entire season of your life that was teeming with opportunities to be present. Today’s episode we talk about making a summer bucket list and go over our own personal bucket lists for the summer.

Last week we chatted about letting go of the things that were not serving us - those low vibe situations, thoughts, and feelings that were bringing us down. Even if unintentionally - we often create our own chaos. The good news is we can control how we feel a lot more than we think. This episode is all about our brains, nervous systems, and higher vibrational energy. We give helpful tips on high vibe things to add into your routine and how to understand how to make those changes sustainable for you and your life.
Books recommended to understanding body and nervous system health:
The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk
How to do the Work by Dr. Nicole LePera
Nervous system topics to research | Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) & Somatic Shaking

What is bringing your vibe down?! Today’s topic is super interesting because even though it can feel a little heavy - we think there’s a lot of hope in letting go of things that are not serving us. We are human and we only have enough emotional capacity so when we let go of low-vibe things or things that make our energy feel low - then we make room for so so much. So listen in on low-vibe things that we are working on in our lives to free up some capacity for greater things - like our growing businesses.

This is a prompt we have had on the docket for a few months and found a fun way to break it up a little to make it more digestible and fun to listen to. This is part one where Michelle explains what a day in her life looks like as a full time photographer. A little spoiler - Michelle’s schedule is absolute chaos most weeks but she explains how she navigates it with grace and tenderness to herself. It’s the month of LOVE. If you haven’t caught on yet, we are obsessed with Love over here. Loving our life, our spouse, ourselves - all the things. We think one of the best ways to show ourselves love and to love on the world is by existing or living within our purpose. When we do this we are so fully ourselves that we give others permission to be themselves too. This week’s episode is a solo episode where Michelle puts on her coaching hat and talks about how to find your life purpose through a Japanese concept called IKIGAI.

It’s Thanksgiving week and we are certainly feeling extra grateful this year. We have a bomb a** friendship, we are creating new revenue streams, and we are creating opportunities to inspire ourselves and others around us. It feels good to be where we are in life, but that doesn’t mean it always feels like that. Have you ever been in a season where you just struggled emotionally when you wanted to be grateful, and the guilt from that made things even worse? The holiday season is unlike anything else in American culture. It feels like everything is amplified by 10, the busyness, the standards we live by, the money we spend. It’s a lot to experience before adding in being a small business, going to all the functions, and trying to care for ourselves and our families. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of everyone around you and sometimes it’s hard to discern, are these my feelings and expectations or are they someone else's? This episode is all about being aware of the holiday season and making a plan to navigate it before it becomes burn out central.

Ooooh, can you believe we are officially a month into this thing!??! So exciting. We are so grateful for everyone who has tuned in to listen to us. We love being able to share a little part of ourselves with this corner of the online world.
This is a JUICY episode all about comparison. As small creative entrepreneurs, it’s so easy to get caught up in the cycle of doing what everyone else is doing hoping it will work for us. We spend little time thinking about what is actually working for us and trying to fix systems that are not even broken. We talk about how we have struggled with the comparison bug and how it impacted us, our businesses, and our personal lives. As we wrap up the episode, Marly gives us some marketing tips on how we can be more intentional in seasons so that we are not burning ourselves to the ground in every season. If you find yourself constantly exhausted and feel like what you’re doing isn’t cutting it - this episode is for you!

Welcome to our first wildcard episode!! This is something we want to do to create some opportunities for you all to get to know us and for us to grow our friendship. One episode per month will be a wildcard episode where one of us will bring a topic to discuss on the spot with the other. These are not discussed beforehand so that we can get our true and authentic reactions and thoughts to things. Marly was up first and she chose to do a card game called “We’re Not Really Strangers” challenging us to dig deep and think about how well we know each other. The last half of the episode we each brought in “hot takes” or taboo subjects that are coming up in the industry to see what the other thought of it. This episode is an easy listen, so if you want to get a peek into our crazy friendship, click that play button!

This is the 2nd episode and we are still working out the kinks & trying to find our streamlined process. We appreciate you taking the time to hang out with us and help us jumpstart this dream we have! This episode is extra special because we got to be in person together to record and not over zoom!
We talk more in-depth about our friendship and how we formed the idea of a collective. We love the term “collective” because it invites the spirit of co-creation. We love that we are learning something new and sharing what we have and are learning with others. We hope that this feels like a space where people can look at themselves, be inspired, and grow even when it's tough.
We also give a highlight of the content retreat we hosted in September, behind the curtain at the planning of it, and how we both experienced it!
