Hello beautiful podcast listeners and welcome to this week's episode. In today's conversation I speak with Alison, about her experience developing postnatal depression and anxiety after the birth of her first daughter.

Alison was left recovering from her birth with undiagnosed and severely low iron levels. Couple that with a baby who would only sleep whilst being held, sleep deprivation and feeling like she could not talk about how hard things were getting, Alison's PND and PNA symptoms worsened and she was admitted to an inpatient early parenting unit.

3 years on and Alison has learnt to prioritise her self care, plan things in the diary to look forward to and is grateful for the small things in life.

I loved recording this episode, and I hope you enjoy listening too. Hello beautiful podcast family how are you? How has your week been? What has gone well, and what hasn't?? I'd love to know.

This week there has been a lot going on work-wise, lots of spinning plates, lots of balls in the air, you know how it is.

We are coming out of the full moon, and into the new moon, the waning in-between phase where it's a good time to complete tasks. Try not to start anything new, try to focus on decluttering your home, or decluttering your mind by writing down your thoughts on paper, or having that difficult conversation you have been wanting to have with your partner.

This week's recco is this epic episode of the Mel Robbins Podcast, SO good -https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-mel-robbins-podcast/id1646101002?i=1000598772287

Hello everyone and I hope you are having a beautiful week. What has gone well in your week? What hasn't??? Does your cup feel full coming out of this Leo Full Moon, or does it feel bone dry? As though you have nothing left to give and absolutely everything is annoying you.

This is your opportunity to appreciate yourself, give yourself some love and feel seen and held, despite maybe not feeling that energy coming from loved ones in your own life.

Under this Leo Full Moon, you may find aspects of your life, thought patterns, behaviours, relationships, that come into focus that are not serving you. Perhaps it's scrolling instagram when you feel overwhelmed, or people pleasing and saying yes to that invite when you really just want to watch MAFS and do a face mask. This is your opportunity over the next week to Let Something Go, let one of the many thousands of balls you have flying in the air drop.

My recco this week is a product - this is for all the mums or just anyone with wild frizzy and boofy hair like mine. When the PP regrowth makes a halo of fuzz around your head. I have been using Olaplex No. 7 hair oil for over a year and highly recommend.

I hope you all enjoy xxx

Hello everyone I hope you are having a beautiful week, are taking some time to honour yourself and all of the amazing things you have done, to take a breath and give yourself some love.

We are coming into the Leo Full* (not new!!) moon, a time to shine your light bright, step into what makes you feel expressed and be brave without worrying too much about what others think (because who cares really?!?)

My recommendations for this week would be to reach out to someone new, or pitch an idea at work, or express yourself any which way you desire, and to try Dairy Free Magnum's (and also maybe watch MAFS). Treat yourself, and I hope you all enjoy xx

Hello podcast family member, how are you?? How has your week been, and if anyone asks you to do one more thing, do you feel like you might explode?!!

This week I have been feeling serious Mum-Guilt in regards to weaning Wren (I'm sure I'm probably boring you all by now and most definitely sounding like a broken record but it is V hard!) - the constant crying and whinging and I have been giving in, then feeling full of guilt...

However my family is here! From WA! And it has made me reflect on this time last year where I was unable to travel to see them, and we were all wearing masks inside, and this year does feel more full of festivities and family connections.

Reccos:

  1. Watch The White Lotus on Binge, just do it, it's so good. Pretty dark and lots of Sex so maybe don't watch with your MIL
  2. Follow https://www.instagram.com/chriscorsini/ , obsessed with him, have been sending his Tarot readings to all of my friends
  3. Women's clothing from https://assemblylabel.com, I swear makes up 90% of my wardrobe. Flattering cuts, durable and make you feel comfortable and fab, can just throw on
  4. Find a way to give back that feels good to you (I know, I know, I feel I have nothing left to give too, but make it simple, just a smile, or a kind thought etc etc etc)

Hellooo everyone and how was your week? What has gone well? What hasn't?? Have you all been sleeping well and finding some calmness and creativity space in your lives?

This week I would love to recommend a beautiful new Perinatal Mental Health Podcast, called Perinatal Stories Australia, and in particular this episode, told with such generosity and clarity: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/perinatal-stories-australia/id1654353017?i=1000586893918

I would also recommend taking the time to think about what mental habits are holding you back, are you comparing yourself to others and dampening your inner flame of creativity? Are you resentful of not having enough time to yourself?? This full moon on December 8th is a great time to write something down that is holding you back, and tear it up and throw it into the bin!!

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a wonderful week, come and find me on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/storiesofwomenshealth xxx

In episode 34 of the podcast I talk with the incredible Women's Health Physiotherapist, Researcher, Published Author and all around Guru Mindy Cooper about how to best support yourself during breastfeeding, and also about how to take care of your mental health if it didn't work out as planned.

In our culture we medicalise breastfeeding, if something goes wrong there is minimal support and we blame the woman. In early postpartum, rather than valuing rest and recovery, 'bouncing back' and being the perfect host to visitors is heralded.

This episode is not a how-to guide, rather a holistic management plan, and it covers:

  • Why we grieve if our breastfeeding journey didn't go to plan
  • Why there is so much judgement in the BF space
  • How to set yourself up early to have a positive journey
  • Why medical advice often doesn't work
  • How to navigate mismanagement and poor advice
  • Why inflammation is so common early on in BF
  • And so much more

I hope you all enjoy, and if you are a Victorian health practitioner and looking to learn more, keep your eyes out for Lactation for the Health Professional Courses run through https://www.informphysio.com

There is no template to Break-Up with a friend, it is seen as a failure if a friendship ends. And friendship break-ups if done in the wrong way, can create so much heartbreak and pain.

However, I think that during the perinatal period. Whether you are    trying to navigate a longer-than-expected conception journey, or are at home with a screaming baby, you will have less energy to give to friendships. Your priorities will also be shifting, along with your daily rhythms and routines. Therefore I think it is essential for your wellbeing to be surrounded by friends that fill you up with energy, and joy, and don't drain your batteries, judge you, or make you feel overwhelmed and insecure.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Why I think it's OK for our friendships to change over time
  • The three ways to break-up with a friend
  • My experience of being Ghosted
  • What to look for in your friendships
  • And SO much more

I am so grateful to the brave, eloquent and wise Ashlee, for sharing her experience with postpartum thyroiditis after the birth of her second child.

Ashlee began to notice symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, anxiety, insomnia, trembling hands, hair loss, skin breakouts and feelings of impending doom and was initially dismissed by her local GP.

This episode is epic, it made me laugh and cry and I hope you all enjoy xxx

I have thought about publishing this episode for four years (since the birth of my son really) but haven't been brave enough to do it. Through my work as a Women's Health Physiotherapist I have run out of tissues in my office because everyone comes in, feeling like they are broken. I want to reexamine the way we think about and discuss Women's Health. And I want to share my story to help anyone out there who may be feeling like they are broken.  Enjoy xxx
