challenges initiatives face, from planning to implementation.
With businesses still experiencing the disruption to their operations and supply chains due to the pandemic, research commissioned by leading global business decisioning data and analytics provider Dun & Bradstreet has found that over half (52%) of European businesses surveyed don’t think they will survive without relevant, up-to-date and compliant business data.
Furthermore, with the pandemic continuing to disrupt supply chains globally, six in ten businesses surveyed are using data to assess risk (65%) and monitor procurement and supply (62%).

The Open University (OU) has jointly published a report with Be the Business titled Skills for Success: supporting business leaders with digital adoption. The research involved surveying 1,500 business leaders of SMEs from across the UK and listening to the
experiences of businesses which have needed to make drastic changes to adapt to
the challenges presented by the pandemic.
As businesses strive to rebuild following the challenges of the past year, technical debt has emerged as a major roadblock to innovation and recovery, especially for enterprises focused on growth. Technical debt is a technical design or development choice made for short-term benefit with long-term consequences. Across industries, this results from the
development of solutions implemented quickly to maximise speed, rather than
optimising for the future. Based on a global survey of 500 IT leaders, the OutSystems report highlights the challenges companies face as they confront the many causes of technical debt, including pressure to meet deadlines, constant change in the marketplace, and outdated technology.
The UK lags behind in global and European rankings for data and technology skills, according to Coursera’s latest Global Skills Report (GSR). The UK placed 34th globally in
data skills and 47th in technology skills, lagging behind much of Western Europe
and placing lower overall compared to last year’s report. GSR draws on performance data since the pandemic's onset from more than 77 million learners on the platform to benchmark skills proficiency across businesses, technology, and data science for over 100 countries. For the first time, the Global Skills Report also reveals
the top skills needed for high-demand entry-level jobs, including the learning
hours required to develop them.
