Every L Podcast: Recent Episodes

Matt Brown

Welcome to the Every L Podcast, my name is Matt Brown and I am your host. This podcast has been created to showcase that "Every L" is not always a loss.

I have had my fair share of challenging moments in my life where things didn't go my way, I’ve missed out on opportunities, got rejected, and truly believed that it was the be-all and end-all. I struggled with my mental health for so many years with this but never gave up because I was surrounded by people who had faced various challenging situations but still found good in them.

I want this podcast to be a collection of real people sharing their real lived lives to encourage and motivate others to know that their “right now” is not their “forever.”

I hope you enjoy and I thank you to all my guests who will be sharing their stories. If you would like to get in touch find me on Twitter or IG @everylpodcast or email: everylpod@gmail.com

A bit more about Stephen:

I’m a proud father to Fern and Art, happy husband to Sarah, co-founder and designer of the multi-award winning Ethan the fox teething toy.

Whilst staying with family in Australia in 2016 our daughter Fern discovered a teddy fox in the family home we were staying. She constantly played with it, loved and adored it. Sarah’s young nephew – who’s fox it was – saw how much she loved it and gave it to Fern for keeps. It was this teddy Fox that served as the inspiration for a Fox teething toy.

When it came to giving the Fox a name, it seemed only appropriate we named it after Sarah’s nephew “Ethan”.

It’s been a journey full of twists and turns, and ups and downs.

We’re really proud of Ethan, and he really does feel like part of the family as he’s been there from the beginning with my kids, but it’s about time he payed his way.

Every L Podcast has real people share real experiences to showcase that every L is NOT a loss. Gareth Smith joins me to share how he has handled being diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, the long term impact of this condition and what it meant for his career. Gareth also shares how he slowly learned that he was losing his grip on his mental health and how that impacted his behaviour and those around him

Follow us on Twitter & Instagram @EveryLPodcast

Here is some more information about Gareth Smith:

Almost 7 years ago I was diagnosed with a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) & registered severely sight impaired (legally blind). The main symptoms of my condition are having no peripheral vision and severely reduced vision in the dark and dim light. Imagine looking through cardboard tubes. It is a progressive condition with no current cure.

Since then I’ve been working on trying to accept my new label of being a disabled adult and parent. Especially as the condition I have is hereditary and could potentially be passed on. Only recently I’ve realised that I’ve not been coping well with the fact I’m going blind, I’ve been masking my feeling and thoughts to try and protect myself and others.

In the last few years, I have tried to make a positive impact and use my experiences to help others who have had a similar experience. I use my voice to try to do whatever I can to educate and raise awareness of visual impairments and of all disabilities.

Every L Podcast has real people share real experiences to showcase that every L is NOT a loss. R.P Falconer joins me to share how he behaved in high school. Although he wasn't a disruptive child, he was seldom in class as he constantly kept skipping lessons but would turn up to the exams. When he got his results..........His life would not be the same again.

Here is a bit more about Renaldo (R.P) Falconer:

I am an author, father, husband and brother to all who carry the fire. I hail from London in the UK and have written one full-length novel called 'Lilif' and three other books consisting of one short story (The Springs) and two short story compendiums (Compendium 3 & Compendium 4)

I had the honour of writing a chapter (The things my father never taught me) in the Amazon best-selling book 'DAD' (Featured on BBC One, BBC Radio London, The Guardian, Channel 4 and in the Times newspaper. I am on the verge of releasing my new three-part novel, 'THE SWEAT', a dystopian drama set in London.

My love for writing stems from seeing my mother read countless books in my childhood years. I can recall her screaming with both laughter and fright over the written works of Stephen King, Dean R Koontz, James Herbert and many more. Interestingly, her books led me to film instead of reading, and I developed an endless imagination and love for creating characters and stories.

By age twelve, I had watched the films Rosemary's baby, Misery, Salem's Lot and Pet Sematary only to be told - 'If you think the movies are good, the books are ten times better. As I matured, I discovered how true those words were, and I've never looked back. I want to make people laugh, cry, care and cherish my writing. I genuinely believe there is a book in all of us; we all have a story to tell.
