Even though we may not realize or even understand it, as we wake up every morning, go to school, participate in activities, hang out with our friends, and live our daily lives, there is a spiritual battle raging all around us. While none of us can see spiritual warfare with our eyes, this spiritual battle is very real, and the stakes are incredibly high. As followers of Jesus, we are a part of this battle every single day, but most don’t realize it, much less prepare for it. To be warriors, we must recognize this battle we are in, learn to put on our spiritual armor, and be ready to wield our one offensive weapon so that we can stand firm in our faith and overcome the enemy.

Today’s teenager lives in a hyper-sexualized culture. And while sexual immorality is an almost timeless struggle, the world students live in seems to take the glamorization of sex to unprecedented levels. Culture calls teenagers to live a life where sexual activity and sexual expression is a vital part of their identity. But the Bible challenges students to embrace God’s view of sex and sexuality, to rise above the message of culture and to instead live holy lives. In short, the Bible calls students to Live Differently.

Session 2 Purpose: To help students know exactly what the Bible means when it defines sexual immorality.

Scripture Passage: Hebrews 13:4, Song of Solomon 2:7, Matthew 5:27-28, 1 Corinthians 10:12-13, James 4:7

Teaching Point 1: People act outside of God’s plan for sex when they have sex outside of marriage.

Teaching Point 2: But it’s not just sex outside of marriage; people act outside of God’s plan for sex when they lust after another person.

Teaching Point 3: Temptation isn’t sin. You have a choice. You don’t have to give in to sexually impure thoughts.
