Don't Be So Negative

When the saying “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” is not helpful. Direct feedback is a great tool to use when choosing to make improvements or changes. Why would you want to waste time making changes or improvements to areas that have little to no impact?

One way businesses can ask clients or patients for feedback that is very informative to the owner and team, but requires very little time and effort from the customer, is a Net Promoter Score survey. But what do you do if someone gives you a less-than-stellar rating? First, you thank them for being kind enough to be honest. Next, you turn that criticism into a catalyst for better client experience. Listen to our most recent experience with a detractor rating from our NPS.

This podcast is for business owners who are building a business they love, that they can scale, and can leave a legacy.

Get Out of Your Head

The power of audibly speaking thoughts. The power of sharing thoughts with others. Often just taking ideas from thoughts and putting them into words on a page can bring all new perspectives. As a business owner and CPA, there are many ideas, decisions, and opinions that swirl around in your mind, but keeping them there is a huge mistake. Keeping thoughts in your mind often interrupts your focus or even disrupts your sleep. It is important to say the things out loud that are keeping you up at night, and even better to share those with a trusted person who can offer a unique perspective. Marcus Dillon, CPA and Rachel Dillon share how important getting your thoughts out of your head is to your business progress and finding peace in life.

How to Avoid Falling Into the Same Trap

This episode is hosted by John E. Randolph, host of CPA Life podcast and Managing Partner at Benaiah Consulting Group. This episode originally aired on the CPA Life podcast on May 10, 2023. A big thank you to John and CPA Life podcast for allowing us to re-air their interview.

When Marcus Dillon of Dillon Business Advisors first branched out from his career, which included a stint with a Big Four firm, he realized that he had “recreated the monster” that sucked away all his time and energy in his new venture. Because his goal had been to take control of his life by doing things differently as a business owner, he took stock of what had happened and made the adjustments necessary to take the pressure off himself and his employees. This included saying no to old and new clients alike, divorcing the ideas of “work” and “business,” and ensuring his employees, many of whom work part-time, had the ability to properly balance their lives with their work, too. He has continued to utilize that philosophy to build DBA into the success it is today.
