" I really just want my family to be raised on the best food possible and have a good relationship with food because I can look at myself and I have that habit where I want something sweet after every meal.
Like my mouth, this doesn't taste right. If it's like egg aftertaste or like hamburger after this, I'm like, I really want a chocolate aftertaste going on. And I can see that that was created in my childhood, and I think, gosh, you know, what habits are we giving our kids about how they think about food and how they think about eating and engaging with food?
And I just really want them to have good habits instead of having to break bad habits. "

"Do I love meal planning? No, I don't like it, but I love the outcome that the result of having that meal plan because no matter what age your kids are , maybe your husband or whoever, like everybody wants to know what's for dinner. And I don't know about you, but like that feeling when somebody asks you, Mom, what's for dinner?
And you don't know, it's like instant stress. I just like instantly, I'm like, I don't know. Don't ask me that question. If we have it printed off, you go, go look at the meal plan, or check the app,, there's a plan, so I don't even have to use that energy to tell them what's for dinner."

"Kids have a way of drawing our shadows out, shadows coming out, me doing the same things again and again, responding and reacting the same way and realizing that Not only is it not impacting my kids in a positive way and getting the result that I want, but man, I don't feel good. I don't feel good when I show up this way and I think I got tired.
I think that's the only thing I can say is that I started to get tired that the circumstances outside of me aren't going to change my situation. But if I change how I show up, that was the ticket that changed everything."

"Start with the daily tasks. So if someone's new and you're listening to this, you've never heard of me.
And you're like daily tasks. Okay. I can try that. Those are five things that I recommend doing every single day. If you can like there are days that you'll only do one of those things and I actually do recommend just starting with one like making your bed or doing a load of laundry, but 5 daily tasks like get those mastered and then you add the weekly tasks."

"What do I want?
If you can take a few minutes and really everything like when we're making these changes, it will take work. It will take time. It will take attention. It doesn't have to take a lot of those things, but it will require some. We are either paying with our time or our money. And I think the best place to start is with your time in answering this question.
And what I find with my clients, because we really thoroughly start here and go with creating what it would even look like if they had the light, we're living the life of joy and balance and, and peace and calm and confidence, right? And so many times I asked this question and the answer is: I don't know."

"I think emotional anything right now is kind of a buzzword.
We're hearing in self help. I mean emotional resilience regulation, emotional control. I mean, I think we're saying these different words and they are a little bit different. Like if you think about even the word regulation Versus control versus resilience, there is a little bit of a difference.
I think of the big, the overall arching theme of this is just understanding and knowing our emotions. And then if we understand them, then I think of like regulation or control is then we are deciding what we do or how we respond with those emotions versus kind of being at the effect of them. So that's what I think of like emotional regulation is just the understanding the capacity to understand them and decide on purpose how we want to respond to the feelings that we're having in those moments."

"When you become a mom, it's almost like you take a back seat because the kids come and then, you know, with that comes the housework and the food and stuff.
So I think you first have to really give yourself permission. It is okay to want something. It is okay to have that desire to pick up a craft, to learn another language, whatever it may be.
That's not a bad thing. And I think like, there's a stigma, like if you want something for yourself, it's a bad thing, but like, that's necessarily true."

"Finding time between kid pickups and activities to like sit down and have a conversation without distractions is really rare.
And so for so many of the moms I hear from, they're like, you know, they can have their car mount during carpool pickups. And once they drop the kids off, listen to a message or they're going to, you know, while they're Folding laundry or doing dishes. They're going to play a polo from a friend like a personal friend podcast."

"I think when it comes to how we identify ourselves, a lot of times we identify ourselves by these labels that either we put on ourselves or that other people have put upon us.
And I really wanted to kind of break down, like, what is the label versus who I really am because sometimes you're given labels that you don't always feel like you fit into completely."

"Behavior is shaped by consequences, and as a child behaves a certain way and we give it a reward, then that behavior is stronger.
So, if we pay attention to our children while they're rivaling, while they're arguing with each other, We're making that behavior stronger, we're strengthening it, and we're actually adding to the list of things that they'll argue about in the future.
And so, what we want to send a message to our kids is what we will engage in, what we will intervene in, and what we will not intervene in.
So we have to kind of create a boundary there, but once we've created that boundary, we can actually parent with more compassion because we're choosing when to engage."

"Modern parenting, it's really noticing all of [the generational stuff we were taught] and kind of noticing, like, I don't really love the way that that feels. I don't really love doing that. But what is this new way? Like how, how can I change things? And sometimes we swing way too far over into like passiveness where we're just like, okay, well, I don't want that, let's just like let our kids do whatever.
And that's not it either.
I think it's this lovely center space of holding really compassionate boundaries.
Most of our teaching for our kids is going to come through us modeling that. "

Emily says: I absolutely love to share any knowledge with mums around the world about intuitive parenting, about how to really trust their inner voice, how to really lean into what feels right for them, and how to really stand in that power and truth around what's right for their kids, rather than just following the status quo and doing, you know, what they think they have to do and finding that they end up in a situation that just isn't working for their family.

Wanda says: So self care is such an interesting topic. I absolutely hated the topic self care when I first was a mom. It made me mad. I hated when people talked about it.
It just seemed like the kind of a selfish thing to do, but it also, I didn't get the point to it. I was like, it's not going to help. My day isn't any different. I don't feel any different internally.
Self care kind of has the stigma of what that means is a certain routine, like, you wake up early, you read your scriptures, you read a good book, you meditate, you say prayers, you write in your journal, like, it's a very consistent society.

Today. We are talking about three of the things that are keeping you overwhelmed and feeling stuck. In your mom life. So often what we talk about here on the podcast and in my work are kind of these bigger things, lofty goals, things we want to work toward.
And today we're going to kind of flip the script and talk about more of the practical things, because what I've found is that sometimes. The things that you're dealing with on the day to day. Keep you so stuck in overwhelm in not being able to think about the bigger picture. And so sometimes it can be really helpful to get very practical, very hands-on of what are the things that are keeping me here and not allowing me to go where I want to go. So let's dive in and talk about these three things.

This episode was inspired by a book I read recently called Cinderella Man. If that sounds familiar, it's probably because you've watched the movie like I had. it came out. Maybe early two thousands with Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger.
I was interested in the book because I always like hearing the behind the scenes. What makes a champion into a champion? What are the things that they are doing? That we can learn from and emulate. And there were some really good ones in this book, and I'm excited to share them with you because I think there's a lot of relevance here for what we do as moms, what we do in life. And I am going to go through three lessons that I learned from the book.

We are going to talk about living your purpose and more specifically, what is keeping you from living your purpose? This is something that I come across a lot, this idea of purpose. It's something that on the one hand is an inspiring where we feel like, yes, I want to live my purpose. And on the other hand, It's terrifying. Like, I don't know if I'm living my purpose. How do I, how do I know if I'm there?
How do I know if I am doing what I want to do as far as living my purpose? And it can become this big thing in our minds. And there are lots of things. In fact, five things that can keep us from living our purpose that we're going to talk about today.

“People claim to want to do something that matters, yet they measure themselves against things that don’t, and track their progress not in years but in microseconds. They want to make something timeless, but they focus instead on immediate payoffs and instant gratification.”

So, what actually matters most? Family Faith *Love
And, How are you measuring yourself?

At the end of the day when you think about what you did, what are you measuring yourself on? What do you see as a measure of your success?
What matters most lasts longest. But we measure ourselves against things that don’t matter.

So in May we are working on being more intentional with our screen time. So likely for most of us, that's going to mean less time on our screens. It's going to mean being more intentional and more thoughtful about the time that we do spend on our screens.

Today we are talking about being where you are. Now we're talking about the mental discipline of being present. This is something that is not easy. It's definitely not easy for me. It's not easy for the clients that I work with.
But today we're gonna cover a few things that I hope will help. So number one, we're gonna talk about practicing the idea of mental discipline, practicing being where you are now. Then we're going to talk about some mental awareness, being aware of where you are. And finally we'll talk about the why. Why even bother? What does being present really do for you?

I am going to talk about Cinderella today, what life was like for Cinderella after she got married and had four kids. So we all know the story of Cinderella. She. is in dire need. She's in this place in her life where things are not going well, right? Um, her stepsisters, her stepmother are horrible to her.
She just wants out. She knows she wants this drastic change. And, um, she doesn't have a dress and she knows exactly what she wants. She wants to go to the ball, she wants to dance with the prince. She wants to have. Magical moment and the fairy godmother appears. She gets everything she wants. She meets the prince.
She ends up happily ever after and she marries the prince. Now, I want you to fast forward in Cinderella's life, 10, 15 years down the road, maybe even less, maybe between uh, like six and 15 years down the road. I had my first four kids in six years. and I want you to picture Cinderella as a mom, a tired mom.

So today we're gonna talk about how to balance your mom life while going all in on your dreams. Alright, so yesterday if you were with me I talked about Cinderella and we were talking about Happily ever After, and this idea of how we think things are gonna look versus what they're actually like.
And I talked a lot about going for your dreams and. Just because you have a family and you have obligations and you have these things you need to do, doesn't mean that you can't do the things that you feel called to do.
So I think that brings up the question then like, okay, yeah, that's really great. I wanna do these things, but how like, , even if I feel like, okay, yes, I'm inspired, I'm gonna go for it, right? How do you actually do it? And that's what we're gonna talk about today.

We are gonna talk about the idea of enough today, and I want you to think for a second if you have enough. Sometimes we think, am I enough? I want you to think for a second, do I have enough? Do I have enough time? Do I have enough motivation or willpower?
Do I have enough energy? The reason why I want you to think about that is because this is something that I. a lot for moms. Tell me if this is something you ever feel. So, do you ever feel like there's not enough time?

I wanted to talk today about a recent call I had and the things that this woman that I was talking to shared with me because as she was going over her situation, I think that you'll see a lot of similarities with your own life. The things that she talked about are pretty common to what I hear with moms. And so I want to list out the things that she told me. And then we're going to go over each one and talk about the solution.

I am excited to be here and to talk to you about the question that I get asked probably the most often, which is, how can I spend time on my dreams, doing what I wanna do, trying to work on my goals when my to-do list never ends?
it's common. It's something that people ask me a lot because this is what a lot of us are struggling with. We have things that we wanna do and yet we have things that we feel like we need to do that, um, life demands of us, that motherhood demands of us.

MOMS Life Made Simple starts in April 2023!
I wanna know if this has been your situation, you. After a long day of taking care of your family and doing the things you needed to get done, you make dinner, you clean up, you finally get the kids to bed, and then you do some more cleaning, and finally you sit down. You either scroll your phone or you watch a show maybe for a little or maybe that leads into kind of a long time.
And then finally, you. get into bed exhausted, just totally exhausted. And beyond that, a little bit discouraged because you remember all the things that you left undone. You. Remember that you have this goal, this dream, this thing you wanna work on. And that didn't even, that wasn't even on the list, like that was so far down your list of priorities. It didn't even get written down. It didn't even have a chance of getting done. Um, you think about as you're lying there in bed, the balls that you dropped that day, the ways that you blew it, the things that you did wrong. and then you know that tomorrow you have to do it all over again and you just feel that discouragement.

So today we're gonna talk about how to go from chaos to calm, how to thrive in mom life, and how to accomplish your goals. These are some big things and they are things that we all want as moms. I have felt these myself.
So this is for you if you feel out of control during your day, if you feel out of control with your emotions, with the way that you're reacting to or handling situations that come up in your family. If you feel unorganized, like, like you don't quite know what to do next, but you feel like you have a ton to do, but you're not sure what to do when, and you. Feel this weight of so many things to do pressing on you.
This is for moms who feel like they're dropping the ball, that there are so many things to do and you know, they're important and you're letting them go. This is for moms who feel in chaos more often than not.

I love that you love to keep life simple because it's one of the things I think that gets overlooked all the time is the water conversation. And a lot of people are like, oh, well I drink my coffee or I drink my tea, and it's not the same thing.
Your body needs to have the water. We've heard it before, but I'm just gonna keep it simple. Not gonna get real sciencey over here, but the reason we need water is the majority of our body is made up of water, right?
And so replenishing and making sure our body is able to, one, move things out properly and allowing it to go to the bathroom. Two, when we consume a lot of our foods and we're eating the water then is also able to help transport those nutrients and move those things into where they need to go.

Well, sleep matters. on a million different, in a million different ways.
I think the the one is, or something that you hear a lot about is longevity. We wanna be healthy. We don't wanna get cardiovascular disease, we don't wanna become obese, we don't wanna have strokes, we don't wanna get Alzheimer's. All these things, dementia, all these things, mental health, pH physical health is linked to sleep.
So there is, there's a lot of studies. It's not saying necessarily that if you are sleep deprived you will get X, Y, and Z disease. But all these diseases, if they've looked at studies and have looked at patients, see that the people who are sleep deprived have a lot more trouble with a lot of these diseases.
Dementia being like, I'm a huge advocate for mental health. Dementia, depression, anxiety, all these being super affected. If you don't sleep because your system isn't regulated because you're constantly stress. because that's when we actually calm down. Um, the other one I find for parents, um, that's one of my biggest ones, emotional regulation.
Mm-hmm. . And we all know it from our children. Right. You know, if they've had a bad night, you're like, in the mornings you're like, oh my God. It's starting with the temper tantrums. Okay. They just didn't get a good night's sleep. We're gonna have a nap in the a. Everything's gonna be better. Yeah. And it is, and we don't treat ourselves that way, but that's what happens in a child's brain overnight, that regulating emotions, consolidating memory, just reliving kind of what you've experienced.
Happens for us too. And there's studies that show that parents who are sleep deprived just yell 52% more of the time than parents who are not sleep deprived.

Our challenge for February is all about getting more and better sleep. So before we dive into that in case you're new here, let me just explain the concept of the challenges and what we're doing this year. So for 2023, each month, we have a different focus and are focusing on a different way to get in more self care so we can make our mom life simple. That is what we're all about.
And little ways finding little ways to do things for yourself that don't take a lot of time that don't take a lot of money that are very easy to work in as habits in your daily life, so that you can feel like you again so that your mom life can go better and be simpler for you.

Jenny's mantra: "I acknowledge that many good things come my way, that a higher power works, miracles in my life daily, and that I have been gifted with many abilities.
I acknowledge that I also have power to create and do many good things, be a part of miracles, and that using my abilities to create the things I want or feel inspired to do will bless the lives of others. Don't wait or expect all things to happen for you. Take ownership and change or create the things that you can."

My goal in January was really around starting to understand how my mindset and my beliefs and my expectations, with home and kids can really impact our home life.
And so I was really cognizant around how my mindset and beliefs on my kids and how they behave, how that can actually influence the environment that we're in. And so I've been noticing a lot more lately that they're really starting to hit each other. You know, they're expressive, very physically, very loud. So they're hitting, there, we've got big emotions. We've got spitting. And so my mindset was really around how can I build an energy and a vision and a mindset for the behavior I want to see from them versus that which I am seeing. And so I felt like my mindset was really reinforcing that I was telling the stories of how naughty my kids were at home and how they just can't stop hitting and spitting on each other.
And I said, you know what? That's probably reinforcing the behavior. And so how can I shift my mindset to that which I want to see? And so I'm really starting to sit in the mindset and the energy of respect and consideration for each other and hands to ourselves. None of this comes overnight, but that's really what I've been focusing on recently is how can my mindset drive the behavior that I'm looking for for my children? Listen to this great episode with Andrea Andree to hear more!

Chantel says: "Self-care can usually be the last thing on the list.
We like to put everybody else first and you know, if, if we can find time, then we will put ourselves somewhere on there. And I also find that people that tend to almost look at self-care as a luxury. Like, well, you know, that's, that's for those types of people or whatever.
You hear people talk about self-care as like bubble baths and taking walks, which is beautiful, but I just told myself I was too busy for all of that. Yeah. So I love to think of this as a reframe as to doing the things that we're normally doing. But you, again, I don't know if you, everybody's heard this phrase before, but what you think you create your world.
And so even just reframing something and setting your intent a new way can change your entire experience with something that you've done a million times over. And so that's what I love to kind of do is help people do simple, small things, but instead of it depleting them, it fills their cup."

Why do our thoughts matter? What we think really creates the feeling that we have inside of us. So from that feeling, then we act. So then those actions, what we do, or maybe even what we don't do, that produces our results.

I am so excited about what we have going on on the podcast this year for 2023. We are going to be doing a series of monthly challenges, and they're really all about different ways to implement self-care. Each month there'll be something new to help you get in self-care in a way that's really doable, in a way that's really simple, in a way that supports your mom life.
So I get it. We don't want to add something really big and difficult and challenging and hard. That's the reason why most New Year's resolutions fail because we try something that's too big. We bite off more than we can chew. We get in this place where it just makes it too much to add one more thing. These series of challenges are going to be different.
They are going to be very doable, but what you will find as you implement each one is that you'll notice changes. Doing little things are going to impact how you live your day, how you live your life, and looking back at the end of each month, at the end of each challenge, you can really evaluate:
When I did that for a month, What happened? How did that work out for me? Is this a habit that I want to keep? Is this making a difference in my life? And so that is what 2023 is all about here at Mom's Life Made Simple, and I'm so excited for you to be a part of it. If you haven't yet, be sure to head over to my website and sign up for the challenge.

We have a good life. And so it's easy to be like, okay, yeah, why do I need dreams? Why do I need something more? And I wanna talk about this idea because I think that each of us, no matter where we are, no matter what our circumstance is, there is an innate desire for more.
And I think that innate desire comes from the divine within us. We are called to grow. We're called to growth. We're called to do more and be more. And that doesn't mean we can never be satisfied and content where we're at. I think this idea of divine discontent, is a really cool paradox to where we are happy and filled with joy where we are, and yet there's this divine discontent that knows we can be even better, do even more, accomplish more, and help more people and just grow to a higher level. And so when I say, are you living the life of your dreams? – What are your dreams? What are those things that you feel called, that you feel nudged to do?

I talk a lot on the podcast and in my coaching about your future self, about her being a different person than you. And because she is a different person, this concept can often seem a little unclear, right?
Our future self is unfamiliar. She's a little unknown to us. We're not quite sure who she's going to be. And so if you think of this like the road trip, it's like always checking the directions. Like, am I going the right way? Is this really who I want to be? is this what I want?
On this episode, learn how to quickly head toward your future self.

What simplifying your wardrobe really means to me: it's a principle, and the principle is that when you go into your closet, your dresser, or wherever you keep your clothes, that you only have available to you clothes that you love, clothes that fit you, and clothes that you can wear right now.
Everything in your closet is a viable option for you to wear. You don't say, Oh, well, I can't wear this because it doesn't fit me. I can't wear this because it's out of season. You know, you have this closet full of clothes, but you can't wear them, Instead, everything in there is a viable option.

The little things that you do in your motherhood, in your life, in your business, in whatever it is you're doing: they matter. I have a quote that I love. This is actually framed in our room and it's by Helen Keller. And it says "I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." I love that concept so much because so much of what we do is little things. It is the little things that matter. And so often we think mistakenly, it's about the big things. That somehow we're going to do some big thing that's going to make a big difference. That's going to make us feel amazing and relevant and like we're really making a difference in this world when often it is those little things that matter so much.

So we are gonna talk about one simple thing that will help you find more happiness and joy and peace and make the marriage relationship a little bit easier.
So are you ready for it? Don't guess ask that is the simple tip for today. Ask your husband questions. I'm gonna go through a list of eight different types of questions, but before I do I wanna talk a little bit about why, why ask questions? Why is this gonna simplify your marriage? Well, so much of what happens.
When we disagree with our spouse or when, you know, miscommunications come up, because we're assuming things, because we don't take the time to ask. When you ask you clear out so much of that confusion and you can really get to the heart of what matters to your spouse by asking the right questions. I believe that most of us.
Most of us want to have a good marriage. We didn't get married because we wanted it to be a rough relationship. Right. We got married because we love this person. We wanna spend the rest of our life with them. And when we ask questions, it's a way to, first of all, show them that we care about the answers.
But also those answers are going to direct us and give us clues of how we can do better, how we can grow closer, what our, our spouse actually cares about. And it will give you a closeness that you wouldn't have otherwise.

I'm in a book club and we read a book that had large margins, which is pretty interesting. The words weren't taking up the whole page and what it did is it allowed us to turn the pages faster. And when we turned the pages faster, we felt like we were super readers. We were flying through this book and that feeling of Getting through the book faster was motivating. It actually made us want to read more.
And even though it was kind of a longer book, it didn't feel that long because we were flipping pages so often. It made us feel like we could get through it.
And I was thinking about this idea of margins and a confession is I have not been giving myself quite as much margin as I need in my life right now. And because of that, I've been a little stressed and I don't like that. And so I wanted to talk about where in life we can give ourselves margins and why this makes a difference.

Last week, we talked about morning routines, and we're going to shift gears today and talk about how an evening routine is going to help simplify your day. Now I give a lot more attention generally to a morning routine.
Evening routines are setting the stage for the next morning. And maybe we need to dive a little deeper into evenings because they are really going to determine a lot of things and including how good your morning routine will be the next day. So let's think about your evenings currently. What are you currently doing?

Today we're talking about creating a morning routine that simplifies your day. Now, you've heard me talk about this before. This is something I love so much because it really makes such a difference. And as I was thinking about why, I was thinking moms often feel overwhelmed, but why do we feel overwhelmed?
What's the cause? What is leading us to that overwhelmed feeling? And I came up with three reasons. We feel overwhelmed because of what we think. We feel overwhelmed because of what we're missing, and we feel overwhelmed because of what we're doing. Our morning routine can actually can simplify your day and get rid of overwhelm because we can use our mornings to change how we think. We can use our mornings to get what we're missing, and we can use our mornings to plan out the most important things to do that day.

And maybe not for the reason that you think, I, it seems very basic to me, it seems like, well, doesn't everyone do this, but this was actually a request that I got. That I talk about how I plan meals, how I prep meals and how I keep dinner. Simple. And so I'm happy to do this. I'm very interested to know if this resonates with you. Today we're going to talk about how to be a good mom and actually feel like a good mom, because I think so many of us are out there. Doing all the things really trying, giving our efforts to motherhood, but not feeling like we're succeeding, not feeling like good moms.
And I was thinking I'm recording this in August, but I was thinking about mother's day. And I was thinking about how hard of a day that is for so many women and how painful. And of course there are obvious, obvious reasons that some it's painful for some people, right. Infertility struggles or, women who have never been able to have a family.
But I think even for women who have kids who are doing the daily mom grind, motherhood can be a painful day because they are confronted on mother's day. We are confronted with all our own expectations and what we thought we'd be as moms and what we thought motherhood would look like. And so often we come up short.
And we just feel like we aren't doing enough. Like we, aren't the kind of mom that we want to be.
Learn more about how to FEEL like a good mom on this week's episode.

There is so much in our day, right? The kids are fighting. There are messes. Everywhere. You're driving to all the activities. And as you're driving, you're thinking, how am I even gonna get dinner on the table tonight?
You can't even go to the bathroom without someone yelling mom and looking for you and needing you. There's a lot that's going on. And often it feels like things are out of control. You feel like life is just happening and you don't really have a say in what's going on. It doesn't feel like you're consciously and actively making decisions.
It just feels like things are coming at you all day long and you're playing defense. What happens when we feel that when we feel like we're not in control here? And just everything is being decided for me. Life is happening to me, right? When you get in that state of mind it really leads to feelings of overwhelm.
It leads to frustration. It leads to discouragement and that's because there are things that you want to do. And there are things that you maybe even feel called to do, but you can never seem to make any progress on those things because of all of the things that are coming into your world and all of the demands on your time and your effort and your energy.
So when life feels out of control, It's often because we're trying to control things that are not ours to control. Okay. I wanna say that again. When things feel out of control, it's a lot of times the reason why is because we're trying to control things that aren't ours to control.

Brooke is a powerful creator of her life--and in this episode, she will give you tools to create the life and the day you want to have.
Brooke says: "My simple life hack, I guess the most important thing for me to simplify life is the practice of meditation and particularly starting and ending my day in a place of stillness and being grounded.
And I think the opposite of that...:Life does not feel simple when I am overwhelmed. It doesn't feel simple when I've got a bunch of things running through my head.
Maybe I'm feeling anxious about things on my schedule. Maybe I am anxious about things that I'm thinking about from the day before, or like things in the past or things in the future or wanting to address certain challenges that my kids or my family are going through right now, all of that can create a lot of commotion in my mind and in my heart.
And even though it might not necessarily be things on a to-do list, anything on my list is going to feel bigger when my mind and heart are in a frenzy.
And so my most important thing for simplifying is just, I need to have a practice, a little ritual, a little morning protocol in which I can just quiet."

Taralyn keeps her mom life simple with systems. In this episode, she walks us through how to keep mornings simple with non-negotiables for moms and kids.
"It's so easy to make so much complexity out of all the options that are available in the world and with all the knowledge we have available, I mean, it's difficult to not just be overwhelmed.
But for me, it comes down to really one word and it's the essentials. So, I mean, essentialism actually itself is a new kind of term that really resonates with me that as we say yes to things that are essential for us, yes."

Rachel Nielson makes mom life simple by getting rid of mom guilt. She says, "I thought kind of an overarching principle for me of how I have made mom life more simple is that I shut down mom guilt, and I have found that by eliminating unnecessary mom guilt in my life, my life does feel simpler. Less less chaotic, less emotional in a lot of ways. It's just more straightforward because I have a compassionate, inner voice that just says, Nope, we're not going there."

Today, we are going to talk about how the obstacle is the way I enjoyed this book. And really, even more than the book itself is the concept. The obstacle is the way Ryan holiday says the obstacle in the path becomes the path.
I never forget within every obstacle is an opportunity to improve our condition. That quote reminded me of what Napoleon hill said, which is every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries within it. The seed of an equal or greater benefit. Okay. So whatever hard thing, whatever obstacle, whatever struggle you are going through.
Is not just a terrible thing that you have to overcome so that you can get on with the real purpose. The obstacle is the way to get to your truer purpose. That obstacle, that challenge is going to give you the skills that you need to do, what you need to do. So Ryan's holiday says when you come against an obstacle.
The challenge is to not say, oh, this isn't so bad, but instead to say, I can make this good. So, how can you make those obstacles in your life? Good. The challenge is to see opportunity in every disaster when something bad happens.

Abundance can mean a lot of different things. Probably the first thing that comes to your mind is money or finances. That's often what we think about. But there are lots of other ways that we can live in abundance. I want you to think about those for a second.
So an abundance of time, An abundance of love and good relationships, an abundance of holiness. There are lots of others. Maybe some others come to mind for you. Where in your life is there scarcity, but you would like for there to be abundance? Now, a lot of the examples I'm going to share today have to do with money and a couple with time, I think, but for the most part, that's where I'm going to go.
Translate this in your mind to whatever it is that you need more abundance of in your life, because this is relevant and abundance is so powerful. It means there's more than enough that there is so much there for you and that you don't have to live small or just have a little, or just get by. But there is enough and to spare.
So I'm going to give you three ways that you can live in abundance. And these are things that you can do and you can start doing right now. They're actionable items for you to check in today

We are going to talk about journaling and why journaling is the habit that will make all your other habits easier. Journaling is a Keystone habit. So a Keystone is. In architecture. If you see an arch, the Keystone is that center piece of the arch that holds everything together. And when we're talking about a Keystone habit, a Keystone habit makes the rest of everything you do. Easier. It holds it together. It keeps it a little bit together. Why is journaling a Keystone habit today? We're going to go through six reasons. Why journaling is a Keystone habit, why it holds all your other habits together.

I'm excited to talk today about your daily big three. And really how this process of choosing a daily big three can help you and can really work for you to simplify your life. To, get some things off your plate and to really make things feel a little bit easier.
So, the idea for this episode came because one of my current clients that I'm working with is really struggling to make the daily big three, a part of her life. And so we've been doing a lot of coaching around this and she has had some questions and some resistance and things come up. And so. These are things that I've heard before.
But I thought would be helpful for you to really learn how to work through these and how to make the daily big three work for you.

"The system that I've developed is not about limiting.
It's about creating space for you to fill with whatever you want, rather than life kind of happening to you your day, kind of coming at you, more 'I'm the author of how things are going.' You're more in charge and then giving yourself space for spontaneity for the crap hit the fan, for life to happen as it does.
You have space for it though. You're not so stretched super thin on a daily basis to where when life does happen now you're in survival mode."

I'm excited to be with you today and have a great episode about morning routines. And specifically, we're going to talk about how to stick to your morning routine when life gets crazy. I'm going to answer a few questions. Like why have a morning routine? And how do you do it when things are busy or crazy or out of the ordinary? And also overcoming perfectionism. Now, while I'm talking about morning routines, there's a lot in here that can relate to other habits and other changes that you want to make in your life. So today's going to be packed with a lot of great information. Before we jump into that. Let's talk about the review of the week. So this review comes from M T F 1956, which sounds suspiciously like my dad. And I will take it. I appreciate this review that says Chanel is amazing. I love her insights. She is a gifted speaker, enjoyed her past podcasts. So thank you to my dad for leaving that review. And, I appreciate all the reviews that you guys leave. If you haven't yet, please go and do so. It helps the show to grow and also helps when you share with a friend. So thank you to those who are doing that and who are taking the time. I truly appreciate that. Now let's talk about morning routines. So first, why have a morning routine? Why are morning routines important?
When we start our day with a morning routine, we are starting our day with intention. We're starting our day with what matters and mornings are so powerful because. There are a lot of things that can derail us throughout the day. We can have a lot of, you know, hopes and dreams and good intentions for the day, but sometimes things come up and don't allow us, or make it harder for us to do the things that we want to do. There are so. Many less distractions in the morning. If you just get yourself out of bed and you have that time alone, you can really choose how you want to spend it. And if you choose, right, if you choose to do the things that matter to you, you start the day with a win, you start by feeling successful. Like, yes, I did that thing that mattered to me. I have been an advocate for a long time of getting some self-care in the morning. I think that's so important for moms, but really any. Any routine that you do in the morning is going to be self care, right? If you are doing the things that matter to you, then you're taking care of yourself. You're taking care of your own needs. So morning routines also helped to set the tone for your day. They help you to kind of create the day that you want to have.
https://www.instagram.com/chanelleneilsoncoaching/
We're going to talk about transitions and how they help you to stay present. Why do I feel like this is so important is because What it does for you when you get this right, it helps you to simplify mentally. We often find ourselves with so many things going on in our minds: we're distracted and overwhelmed and when we have these transitions and we really understand how this can help us, we're going to find that we're more present. We'll find that we're less distracted. And we'll find that we do the things that we are meaning to do when we mean to do them. And so I hope you'll find this very helpful. It's really some simple things that you can do in your day. That will make a big difference. So before we dive into that, I have a review here, the review of the week from blue fire, Phoenix, who says Chanel always has the best advice. And she's so fun to listen to. So thank you so much for that kind review. I appreciate all of you who listen and who take the time to leave a review. If you haven't yet, please go ahead and do so. I would love for you to be the next reviewer of the week. Okay, so let's dive in then to this idea of using transitions in your day. So in my day, I use a very loose time-blocking system. And I think if you think about it, you'll find that you sort of have this too. Maybe yours is a little tighter. Maybe it's a little looser, but it's kind of something that we all have naturally. So a time-blocking system, the actual, when you get into time management and you time talk about time, blocking. It's setting aside certain chunks of your day for certain things. So from 10 to 12, I'm going to be working on this project from 12 to 1230. I'm going to have lunch and so on throughout your day. Well, as a mom. I feel like it works a lot better to have a very loose time-blocking system. Because there's a lot that goes on in the day. And so I'm going to just explain how this works for me and what this looks like in my day to help you get a good picture.

Hello, and welcome to today's episode of mom's life made simple. I'm so excited that you are here and really. Excited and have prepared a lot to share today's episode with you. We are talking about what it means to create with God. And we're getting deep into this idea of spiritual creation. I actually recorded this podcast already. And when I finished, I was like, no, that isn't exactly what needs to be said in that podcast episode. And so I'm coming back and rerecording because I feel like the things that I have to share with you are so important and have been so. Really life-changing for me, it's changed the way that I think about what I can do in my life. And what's available to me and what is possible, for me as a person. And I want to capture the essence of that, of what spiritual creation can really mean for you. And so here I am recording this podcast again.
Second time. Before we dive into today's show. Let's do the review of the week. This is by M Johns who says, as a mom of four kids, I am super excited to start listening to this podcast. I have listened to other podcasts that Chanel has done, and she has always been very interesting and educational. I can't wait to learn and find ways to make my life more simple. So thank you so much for that review. I appreciate it. I appreciate you for listening. Thank you for being here. If you haven't yet, please leave a rating and review. That helps me too. Get the podcast out so people can listen. And anytime that you like an episode, feel free to share it with your friends and let them know. So let's dive into today's content about spiritual creation. Now, when we think of creation, We think of the creator. God is the creator of the universe. He created everything that we see including ourselves, right? Including all the people. He is our creator, so it becomes very personal to know that he created us. And everything that will ever interact with. Every person and every thing that he. Was the creator of those things. So knowing that we are made from God that he is our creator and that we are his children, we then have that natural. Inherent ability in us to be creators and to want to create. And so, I'm going to read a quote. This is from Dieter F. UQ Dorf who says the desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before. Everyone can create you don't need money, position or influence in order to create something of substance or beauty creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. That desire to create is a deep human need. I love that. And I think that that is because of who we are. We're children of God. He created, he is the creator. And so we then are creators. We are wanting to learn to be like him and to create like he does. So that's kind of what we're going to talk about today. How does he create. And how can we follow that pattern?

I have a great episode plan for you today. All about the gap and the gain. This concept will help you to see things more clearly. It will help you to find more joy in your life and it will help you to really be more successful in your goals. And I'll explain what I mean by that. As we get into this concept. Before we do. I want to share my top review of the week. And this comes from superfan C a F who says, can't wait to listen to these new podcasts. Always a pleasure to listen to Chanel's podcasts. Thank you so much super fan. I appreciate you being here. I appreciate everyone. Who's left ratings and reviews, and if you haven't, I would love for you to take the time to do so. It just takes a minute, but it really helps me out. So thank you so much for doing that. Now let's talk about the gap and the gain. This is a book that came out last year, but it's a concept that's been around for a while. I highly recommend this book. It's by Dr. Benjamin Hardy, and it comes from a concept from Dan Sullivan. Now, Dan Sullivan came up with this concept a long time ago when he was doing some coaching and he works with very successful entrepreneurs.
He noticed a trend with them, and here's what he noticed, even though they were succeeding. Reading. They had a hard time really feeling that success and feeling good about the things that they were happening. That were happening in their businesses. Because they always wanted more. That sort of something we can relate to whether you're in business or not. Right. We always want more. There's this ideal out there, but an ideal is a moving target. So what that means is we kind of have a hazy picture in our mind of what success looks like. Oh, I'll be successful, you know, when this happens, whatever it is. But when we get there, often that ideal moves just a little farther away. It's like the horizon it's constantly out of reach. And as we move closer toward. That ideal. It keeps moving away. Keeps getting bigger. Now, Dan Sullivan realized this. And he came up with this concept of the gap and the gain, which is this. Where you are now to that ideal. When you look from where you are now to that ideal, you're always going to be in the gap. There will always be a gap. And if that's how you're trying to measure success, you will come up short every single time. So, what we need to do is we need to look backwards to where we started and measure backwards from where we started to where we are now. And when we do that, we will find ourselves in the gain. And being in the gain is the way that we feel happy. We feel more motivated. We feel more confident and it allows us to have future success because we're building on the success we've already had instead of feeling disappointed for the things that haven't happened yet. Okay. That's the basic concept of the gap and the gain.

People say to me, I feel so overwhelmed. My to-do list is so long. I just have so many things to do. How can I do it all? And I love this question because the truth is we don't need to do it all at the end of the day.
We need to live more intentionally so that we know what really matters, what should be on the to do list in the first place. And we're able to create the life that we want. So often I see women running around just feeling so busy, but not feeling productive, feeling like they are doing all the things for all the people.
And sometimes they're not even on the list. And of course that's overwhelming. Of course that's exhausting. Of course your to-do list feels like it never ends.

Manifesting is the first M in the mom's method. And I want to start by talking about some preconceived notions, because I think a lot of times when we hear the idea of manifesting, we think that's really
woo-woo. Maybe you've heard stuff about law of attraction; maybe you feel uncomfortable with this idea of manifestation. I actually prefer to call it spiritual creation, which to me basically means creating the life that you want, creating things in your mind before they happen physically in your life.

Welcome to mom's life made simple the podcast for moms who want to go from chaos to calm from overwhelmed, to organize and to find balance between family responsibilities and personal growth. I'm your host Chanel Neilson. Let's make mom life simple.
Hey guys. Thanks so much for being here. I have my friend Monica Tanner with us today. Monica. Thanks for being with us.
So happy to be here.
Yeah. Monica is amazing. She is a mom of four and she hosts on the brighter side marriage for entrepreneurs podcast. She is really an advocate for having a strong marriage. And so Monica, tell us a little bit more about yourself and what.
Yeah.
So like you said, I am the mom boss of four amazing little humans that I love. I raised them together with my hunky husband who we've been married 20 years this year. So crazy to think that we have spent two decades of our life. We're almost to the point where we've been together longer than we were apart.
Right. So, you know, getting into those really fun years our kids three of the four of them are teenagers. So we've got a lot of hormones, a lot of staff, a lot of, but it is a lot of fun. So fun getting to know. The kids at those ages. So and I have my first senior who's graduating this year too. So that's really exciting.
I feel like there's two big times in your life that nobody prepares you for, like nobody prepares you for becoming a mom like that, that transition, that emotional transition. And then I feel like I'm on the other end of it now where like one of them's about to leave my home and like, I don't know.
It's going to be like, I'm probably going to be super depressed on the couch for at least two weeks. People say, so you know, that's, that's where we're at.
Yeah. Okay. Well, you guys are just like a year behind us. We've been married 21 years and our oldest left last year. So.
So I'm going to lean on you for
Yes. I was going to say, give me a call when things get hard. It, it is a transition for sure, but I love I love seeing you, you know, going through that and your family, and then also just how you've really prioritized marriage and been able to, you know, make them.
Your business and this passion that you have for both your husband and marriage in general, into, into what you do. So I love it. I've been asking all my guests the same question, and I want to ask you this question, which is how do you make mom life? So.
Yeah.
So I love this question because it is both simple and very complicated at the same time. It's like a layered answer, but how do I. Mom life simple. And that is the, I take myself off the hook for all of the complicated things about being a mom. And I simply prioritize my marriage because ultimately I feel like the key.
Best resource gift blueprint that I can give my children when they leave my home. Like we just talked about is this idea that all things can be. Healed and solved and created and become whole in a healthy thriving marriage. And so I really, my biggest advice to parents is yes, you know, you want to learn how to be a good mom.
You want to do all of those things, but the absolute best thing you can do for your kids is prioritize your marriage relationship because then, you know, I hear. All the time when my kids don't like a rule or, you know, whatever, I'm like, Oh, you get, you know, when you have a family and a household, like you get to decide how that works for you.
Right. And it's like, kind of, it's not that flippant of an answer because it really is true. Like, it really is true that no matter what we do as parents, our kids, aren't going to like something, right. They're going to be wounded or, you know, traumatized in some way somehow by. Experience in their upbringing growing up.
That's part of it, that's the whole point. Right? And so, but they get to, you know, they get to find a partner and create a life, start creating their own children. And in that prof process, they get to heal. They get to fix things. They get to, you know, create their life, their marriage, their family. In a way that they want to.
And so in order to do that, they have to have this great blueprint of parents who prioritize each other. Parents are priorities, tries their marriage and they didn't do all the things perfectly. Right, right. But they prioritize each other, they loved each other, they supported each other. And through that created this life for their children.
So simplifying mom life to me simply means taking a lot of the pressure away. From how do I perform as a mom every day? And, but how do I prioritize my marriage and team up with my husband to be parents loving, supportive to my children?
Oh, my goodness that like, that just hits me so strongly. I love that so much. I feel like. We don't hear that a lot necessarily. I mean, you're teaching and all that all day, so you hear it
right. But I feel like, I feel like, you know, we come around the problem and I think people are almost afraid to say it because.
There are a lot of divorced parents. There's a lot of people doing it solo. And so out of fear for, we don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. Right. But if, if we are in this marriage relationship and if we can do exactly what you said, and I love, you said, give them a blueprint, like show them how this works.
There were so many nuggets in what you said that are just so powerful. Let's start with this though. I want to talk about. When do you ever, do people ever give you a hard time? Do they give you any pushback? Like, okay, well, not everyone can have a good marriage. Monica, what do you, what do you say to that?
Oh, totally cool. But I, I want to address what you just said of there's a lot of
there's a lot of divorce and I actually work with a lot of
second marriages as well. Second, third, sometimes marriages. Right. And, and to be honest, you're talking to. Mom's you're talking to parents. Right. And so I do tell, talk to those couples that come to me, those, those second and third relationships, and it is still, I still hold to this.
The best thing you can do for your kids is number one, honor. Their. Father. So we're talking to moms so honor their father, right? So that doesn't necessarily mean you still have to be married to them, but, but those children are part you and part their father. And so to be able to love honor and support their father, even if you're no longer married to them is very, very important.
And. In your second relationship, your, your husband who, you know, I, whatever point you're in still to prioritize that marriage relationship, because you are still giving those children a blueprint for a healthy, thriving marriage that they can. Emulate, whatever, you know, whatever
the effects of, of the divorce or, or not the divorce or, you know, whatever it is that they're, they experienced in their childhood and upbringing, their marriages, where they, they kind of solve and heal and grow and do all of those things.
So
when you say, do I ever get any pushback? Like not everyone can have a great marriage. Yes. Everyone can have a great marriage. Like, I don't accept that as like. An excuse for anything, you absolutely can have a great marriage. You have to decide to prioritize that relationship. And in doing so you are blessing your children.
Like you, you definitely, definitely aren't by making that decision that this relationship is my, you know, aside from your relationship with God and your relationship with yourself, your relationship with your partner is the most important relationship that you can model for your child.
Yes. Oh, I love that
so it's worth all the time.
It's worth all the investment. It's worth the energy. I promise that is the best gift that you can give your children and then being a good parent with them, right? You you're showing them how to work together as a team to be a good parent. Even if your kids don't agree with all of the things that you do cause they never, ever, ever.
Right. They're not going to like curfew. They're going to think allowance a stupid, all the things you do. At some point, they're going to be like, I wouldn't do it that way. Or or whatever. Right. They're going to like come up against you and be like, you're, you're the worst mom ever. Right. You're going to get that at some point, I'm telling you, and, and I always just brush it off and they go, you know what?
You have the opportunity to do it better. And I hope that you do. But in order to do that, you have to get married. You have to have this relationship with your spouse and you have to create the family and life and, and experience that you want for yourself. And so that's what I'm going to give you.
Oh, so good. And I love just that little blip for single moms to, you know, to. Whoever that father is for their children. I think that's fantastic. Okay. So much good stuff in here. Now I want to ask circle back to something you said at the beginning, which was, you know, because you're prioritizing your marriage relationship, you're able to kind of take the pressure off and let some things go.
What are some of the things that, you know, you feel maybe other moms have this pressure on that you've been able to really let go of.
Yeah.
so good. I mean, I think when you say other moms, like, I laughed so hard because like, I know I'm making mistakes all the time. Right. But when I go to bed at night, I honestly can say to myself, I did the best I can with what I had. Just like, I can say my own mom, even though she didn't do things perfectly, she was great.
And she loved me and she did the best she could, she did the best she could with what she had. Right. And so I think that little bit of taking the pressure off, like, you know, if I were just a, definitely this, okay. I'll I will definitely say this. Not, I don't ever take credit. For my kids when they do something wonderful.
And I also don't beat myself up for winning. Fall short or do something silly that kids do, right. I've realized that it, that this is their journey. Right? So, so like when I think of myself and my journey that, you know, coming from the, the household and the family that I came from, and, you know, I met my husband and we created.
How our family and our life, like that was my journey. Right. It has very, of course my parents had a big part in it, but it had very little to do with like what they wanted or what their, you know, like what they did day to day in our family. Right. It was like my journey and it was, it's like my, so I do that same thing with my kids.
I, I don't when my kids do something great. Like, I just get to witness that when they make mistakes, I just get to witness that. I just get to hold that space for them. I just get to love them. And I also get to hold the faith for them that they're going to get it all figured out in their life as well. So Yeah.
taking that pressure off, like, it's just like, this is me and my husband.
We created this, you know, It took my husband and I to create those little people. And it takes my husband and I to create an environment in which they feel safe and loved and, and, you know witnessed. Right. And so that, that's it really, I mean, there's all kinds of things that you can do to be a great mom and, and, and, you know, all the things teach them all the things that they need to, to do whatever. I mean at the end of the day, I just, when I go to bed, I know I did the best that I could with what I had. I honored my relationship with my partner. We're working to we're in this together and you know, my kids are gonna grow up and hopefully they find somebody amazing to create their own life and family with.
And that's my, you know, my biggest hope for them.
Yeah. I feel like, you know, this is something I teach a lot about prioritization, like, you know, put first things first and, and not. And what I hear you saying is when you put your relationship with your spouse, First, when that's the priority you're working together on the family. And some of those things take care of themselves.
Some of those things become, you know, whereas if we do the opposite and we focus on our kids' accomplishments or some of these things that we don't have as much control over as we would like to think that we do, that's when we come up short and we feel like we're failing because our, our priorities are kind of shifted and out of whack.
And then. Oh, I can't, I'm not doing as much as I could. I'm not doing as good of a job as I could when really it's not your job to do at all.
A hundred percent and it puts so much stress on our kids, right? When we like live vicariously through them or like, you know, put our value on what our kids are doing. Like that's not good for them either, because then they, you know, they're all wrapped up in mom and dad's emotions. But when they see like mom and dad love you too.
No matter what I do, you know, I, if I am fantastic or if I fall short or if I do this or that mom and dad still love each other and they love us, that is like the perfect environment for our kids to grow up and flourish like honestly.
Yeah.
it's a lot less stress for us as well.
Totally. Totally. That's what I'm hearing. I mean, it really does make your mom life simple. Now I'd love to hear since this is, you know, one of the ways, how do you do it? What are your best tip or tips for really strengthening the marriage relationship?
Yeah. so many. So I would say my top tip is just definitely making your spouse a priority. So, you know, kind of, cause I know your content. I know how you coach in the love it. I would say put your partner on your. Every single day, it doesn't have to be this big elaborate, planned out lots of energy time consuming thing that you do, but like a little text in the middle of the day to let them know you care, like write a little note and thank them for something.
If you're at the grocery store anyways, picking things up, grab their favorite tree, you know, just a little something to let them know. Hey, I thought of you today. And I am so grateful that I get to do this life with you. One thing. Every single day on your to-do list. Very, very simple. And then next, I would say date night, absolutely positively.
Non-negotiable date night on the calendar once a week, do not miss it. And this is a time where we don't talk about the kids. We don't talk about money. We don't talk about the things that stress us out. It is literally time for you and your spouse to connect, to tap into that. Getting to know you curious about each other, have some funding together, make some memories type of energy together, and it's so fantastic for your kids to see you do this for your kids to know that you, that mom and dad have a date on the calendar.
Once a week, mom gets excited. She gets dressed up. She gets to like, you know, be the. Star of the show, you know, for that time period and just that she loves, loves, loves to be with dad. Right? So that is, I would say, get your partner on your to-do list every single day, something simple, and then make sure that date night is on that calendar once a week.
And really, if you do those two things, you are well on your way to prioritizing your marriage.
Oh, those are fantastic tips and so doable. Right? You didn't say go reserve a week long vacation in The Bahamas. You know, it's not this big, expensive time-consuming thing. It's the little things and I love it.
And the truth is that the, that the vacation in The Bahamas, those that is important, but I will be honest. And like, I work with people in this all the time. A lot of times they'll come to me because they went on a big vacation in The Bahamas and they didn't enjoy.
Oh,
why is because they weren't doing the little daily, weekly things.
And So, they thought they were going to take this really big vacation to The Bahamas, and that was going to fix all their problems and guess what it didn't. so I guarantee if you focus on those simple foundational everyday things, then when you go on that big vacation to The Bahamas, you're actually going to really, really love it because that is important
Yes. Oh, fantastic. Well, I'm sure people are going to want to get more from you. Where is the best place that they can connect and learn more?
absolutely. So you can find all the resources@mywebsiteonthebrightersideofmarriage.com. You can find the podcast there. You can find lots of free resources and how to work with me. So,

Welcome to MOMS life made simple the podcast for moms who want to go from chaos to calm from overwhelmed, to organize and to find balance between family responsibilities and personal growth. I'm your host Chanelle Neilson. Let's make mom life simple.
Hey, you guys welcome to the mom's life made simple podcast. I'm so glad you're here. And I am here today with Stacy Julian, Stacy. Thanks for being with us.
Oh, my goodness. Thanks for asking me so
Yes, I am so excited to spend time with you and to chat you guys, Stacy is so much fun. We have podcasted together on her podcast. Be exactly enough time podcasts.
And Stacy is just someone who I admire, who puts so much good stuff out into the world. Stacy is a mom of five kids and just like me, she has four boys and one girl.
Mm.
And Stacy, tell us just a little bit more about yourself.
Well, thank you. First of all. So I I'm a grandma, so let's add one beautiful granddaughter to that list of four boys and a girl. So I've been, I've worked in the memory, keeping space Chanel and listeners for many, many, many years. And so my passions lie. With photos and stories and family history.
I love how those things come together. And I think for me, they have always sort of, sort of that focus and, and the opportunity I've had to teach that to others has really helped me stay present in my life. And so Yeah.
so I love pictures and stories, and especially now as I get older, I love pictures and stories of ancestors.
So.
Yeah. Okay. That's so cool. And I love that you have done that and worked in that space and helped and taught others how to do those things. I know that's been part of the focus of your work. Okay, so good. And how old is your granddaughter?
Okay. So my granddaughter?
is Okay. And we going to have to like figure it out in my brain. She's 18 months. She's probably more like 20 months. All of a
Oh, that's so fun. Okay. Very
so awesome.
Yeah. That's fun. I look forward to that stage of life. That's exciting. So, all right. Well, we are going to dive in and ask the question that I'm asking. All of these amazing moms that I'm bringing on here is how do you make mom lifestyle?
I will tell you how I try to make mom life simple. And I will say that I am an amazing mom about half the time, and then the other half of the time, I'm probably a hot mess, but, but one of the things that has helped me be an amazing mom, and this is going to just sound totally goofy, but little mini clipboards.
Okay. And I, and I even have some to show. To show if you happen to be watching this on YouTube, but if you're just listening, you guys, this is a little six by nine, like from staples, nothing special clipboard. And then of course, because I'm a little crafty, I like make it cute on the back and I spray paint the friends. And then I just create on my computer a list that is pretty specific to what I need. To simplify. Okay. So backup lots of years when I had those four boys in different schools going different directions, and I created a morning clipboard. I'm a big morning person than you. And I talked about that Chanel.
And what I don't like to do in the morning is say, Did you pack your lunch? Did you make your bed? Did you put this away? Did you get, you know, your permission slip, all of this stuff. And so I created a morning clipboard for each of my children, and there were some standard things on there. Like I expect you to make her bed and I expect you to brush your teeth and eat breakfast and pack your lunch.
And then if there were specific things based on the sport they were playing or piano lessons after school or whatever it was, I would add it. So in my home for many years, you didn't get an allowance, but I paid you a dollar a day for a completed clipboard. And what I like about that is then in the morning, I was saying, did you do your. 'cause then that covers all of it, all the things that were on the clipboard. And I never made it a huge deal if they didn't, because honestly, they're the ones that dealt with the consequences. You know what I mean? Like it wasn't like, oh my gosh, she didn't drink a part. It was just like, oh, that's a bummer because had you done your clipboard?
You know, you'd be prepared, you know? So if they forgot their lunch, I'm like, yeah.
that's a bummer. I wish I could bring it to you. It's on your clipboard. So maybe tomorrow you'll remember. But, I mean, I just, it was a really great way for me to pass the accountability on to them and in it, you know, and there's some kids that never took to it all the way.
And then there were some kids who were like, you know, every Friday you want me to fight, you know, perfect clipboard week. So so it was just a tool and then I could adjust it, you know, I would print 10 at a time and then if we needed to adjust things, I would, and there were so cute. Sometimes it comes down to my mind.
I don't want that first. I want you to put, you know, eat breakfast first and then make your bed. And so they would, they would say, I want this in a certain order, but that was them taking ownership in, you know, how they needed their morning to go. So That's one example. For years, I had a nanny that worked for me because I worked full-time at a magazine.
And there was a nanny clipboard. And that way I could, you know, add to the standard things. I need you to go to the store and I need you to get me this, this and this. And I need you to make this for dinner or whatever it was. So I've used them in so many different ways. And right now, currently with my daughter, I homeschool her and we literally have five homeschool clipboards.
Okay. So I just had her go up and bring. Three of them down. So each day of the week, there's a clipboard. so I know exactly what's going to happen every Wednesday. When we go up to the homeschool room, like we're going to do teaching textbooks, we're going to have a little devotional. We're going to do language arts.
We're going to do history. So I know that are short days and long days, but I don't have to, I don't have to think, you know, what are the subjects? What are the things that we do today? We just grab the clipboard and we mark it off as we go. So that's the general idea and I've just used it. In so many different ways.
And I, and I love them. I love
That's so fun. Okay. That's so cute. And I love that idea and it's not something that I've really heard a lot to be honest. It's not something you hear people talking about, so this is really fun.
Well, it's kind of low tech. I mean, it's kind of low tech, you know what I mean? Like it's not your phone. Cause there's so many people, I think that do an amazing job of managing their life and their time. But, but for me, low tech worked again because. This is when my kids were little and there was actually less tech back then.
But but I really just like, it was born out of necessity, you know what I mean? And I just really, the best thing about all out is just really, without sitting my kids down and telling them, Okay.
you've got to be the kind of person that makes lists and knows what you, you know, it just, it was a way to sort of help them make that happen without it just happened.
Naturally. Does that make
Yeah, definitely. And I
I cut you off. You were going to say something.
I think you actually bring up a really good point about the tech, because I think a lot of people would think, okay, well, can't, I just do this on my phone, but there are a lot of dangers, if you, if either your kid is holding a phone or you're holding a phone, we know our phones hijack our brain all the time.
And you know, in my kids' schools, they use Chromebooks for everything, for all their schoolwork. And I'll go and I'll see them with their Chromebook and think they're doing schoolwork, but sometimes they're totally sidetracked and doing something else. And I think the clipboard is only the clipboard. You can't accidentally go and play a game, you know, when you're supposed to be eating breakfast.
So I like this a lot. I have one logistic. I have a few different questions, but first, like just on a really I don't know what you call it, but you do, you have to cut the paper in half. How do you,
yes, that's it? No, that's a good question, actually. So it's, it's just a standard, you open up a word document and It's you put your page landscape, and then I just said to color. And then I create one list with little bubbles, you know, and then I basically just copy and paste it to.
the, to the other side.
So then when I print one piece of paper, it's printing two checklists. So, so then, so I have a folder on my computer and this is back in the day. So there would be literally the folder that was chases clipboards, clerks, clipboards, you know what I mean? Like, so each kid had their folder and then. Sort of the, sort of the iterations or the variations of, of the actual checklist.
And that's what I have now. I have a folder that is homeschool and in there you'll find the clipboards, you know, the checklist for each day of the week.
Yeah. Okay. I like that. I tried something. It wasn't super cutesy, but for our kids chores that they do on Saturday, they have a zone, they have a section of the house and I tried writing out like, okay, so for the bathroom, you've got to take out the trash. You've got to wipe down the toilet, but all the steps to cleaning the bathroom and my kids really rolled their eyes and thought it was.
And so you mentioned some of your kids took to this more than others. I'm really curious to know. Is it like a personality thing, do you think, or is it the way it's presented? What did you find in getting the kids on board? Like what worked?
Yeah. And that's so funny, you mentioned the zone cleaning cause girls who had clipboards in her zones, like he
I am not surprised.
So it's about them during there's the bathroom checklist. And when you're done, you bring me the checklist? Yes.
So, I mean, I have one beautiful son. The ADHD. And he was honestly the one it's hard.
It's hard to stay focused and to stay on task. So he would get discouraged that he very rarely had a quote unquote perfect clipboard day. So I would get to the point where I would put funny things on his, like stop in. I don't know, like I can't even remember what he would get distracted with, you know what I mean?
But I would throw a, watch a cartoon on. Or, you know, just things that I knew he liked to do to try and make it a little more appealing to him. Stop and have a snack, you know, so, and, and there were, and it's kinda, this is kind of confusing because it wasn't just morning stuff. So there was morning stuff they did and, and it kind of depended cause we morphed it over time, but there was kind of a morning section and then there was an afternoon session.
And the thing that motivated this particular son is at the bottom of the checklist, it just says. Like if, once you mark those things off, what I mean, then you are free now. You don't owe anything to mom. And I really tried to stick to it. So I couldn't say to them, oh, Hey, will you do X, Y, and Z?
Because if they have already done their clipboard, then that's, that's it. You know what I mean? And obviously you're a team and there's times when you're like, okay, you know, we all got to do something really quick to help your mom out, but I think that w why it worked for. The other ones particularly is because then they knew mom will be done asking me.
And I think as moms is really easy to just one more thing and this and that, and it created for them this sense that they did have ownership in their day. If they did the things first that were required to them, then they could make decisions, choices about how to spend the rest of their time.
Yeah.
We had some clipboards, so it would have certain things that they had to do before 1:00 PM.
And if they did those by 1:00 PM, then they could have two hours of TV or computer time. So anyway, that, you know, that was, I just tried to sort of tailor each clipboard to each kid.
Yeah, I like this so much because you've mentioned a couple things, a couple of words that stand out one is accountability. This idea that, you know, this is their job. And then also, I don't think you said the word, but the other thing that's standing out to me is boundaries. It's like, you know, so easy. As moms, you know, who do I, I ask the kid, who's the most willing to help at the moment, you know, I need help bringing in groceries or I need this, or I need that.
And yet they feel like, oh, because I'm willing to help. I'm doing it all. And then they feel kind of put upon because there's lots of other kids to help. And so I really liked this idea that, okay, well, these are the things that you're responsible for. And then they have that. Ownership. And like you said, then mom's not going to just keep saying, okay.
More, one more thing, one more thing, you know, it's a good, it's a good system. I like that. How have you used this? You mentioned you used it with the nanny and you mentioned for homeschool. Do you use this system with your own to-do list?
So I, I definitely have over the years, and right now I'm just using more of a planner just because I feel like it does a better, I'm able to journal and do other things that I wouldn't do on a clipboard. But I do because when we talked about memory keeping, but I actually created. Like, I actually sell these in my little shop.
You know what I mean? I had someone make me a little mini clipboards, but so each month with my photos, I essentially have a mini clipboard and that tracks my workflow so that I know, you know what I mean? I've gone through my pictures. I've deleted them. I get to mark off the little trash can, when they're deleted, I've gone through, I favorited the ones that I want to see again or print, you know what I mean?
So it's kind of crazy, but it's still that same concept that I, again, I just applied to one area of my life. And. Again, it's the tech thing. I like that I can pick it up and I can go with my laptop and I can do it over here, or I can do it over there. And I'm not on my phone because just like my kids, I get super distracted.
Yes.
So it, and then I can pick it up and just be like, oh Yeah. that's where I left off. And kind of go back to it. I don't know if that answers your question, but I just love many clipboards.
Yeah, well, this is so fun. I love it. And I love how you showed us so many different applications and different uses of it, both with our kids, with people we're delegating to, and then with ourselves that there are lots of different ways. And I can really see. The way that this simplifies I'd like to just end with, I'm just tying that all in.
Like what, why do you think just of all the things we've talked about or any new thoughts that you've had, why do you think that this system keeps it simple?
Because for my brain, it just lets me do a brain dump. Like I like I do it and then I'm free to. Think about something else to listen to something else in the morning. Like I can listen to a talk that I want to listen to or a podcast, and I don't have to be on top of every kid micromanaging, you know, that was back in the day again.
But for me, it's just, it's freeing up brain space because I like to think about ideas and not keep regurgitating. Did I do this? Did I do this? Like, it's like, it's down, it's down. And when I get to it, I'll mark it off. And. You know, like there was, I even did an exercise clipboard for a while because during the course of a week I wanted to walk twice.
I wanted to do weights twice. I wanted to go to yoga. You know what I mean? So like, that sounds so goofy. I mean, I'm not that, you know, but anyway, that way. Mark it off and it ha it's this it's a, it's a shot of what do we call it? Dopamine, I guess. Right. Isn't it. I mean, you're the life coach, you know, what does it do to your
when you check it off.
what do you check it off?
So It frees up space and then it allows me to feel accomplished because so much of what moms do, we have to be our own source of recognition, I believe. And so it's this chance to recognize all the things I do. Do you know what I mean? And I don't put all the things on the clipboard, but you know, when you check certain things off, then I just think it's a really great feeling.
Yeah,
I don't know if that helps or
totally. I think it's so good. And I think, you know, a thing that I talk about a lot is this idea of getting things. So they're not swirling around in your brain, right? That's when we feel overwhelmed when there's just so much going on in our mind. And so this is just another way to get it out of your mind and on paper and on this cute little clipboard and then both for other people to go and execute or for you to go and execute.
It just definitely simplifies because when we feel that complexity, we want to shut down when things in our mind. Overload. We're like, ah, I can't do anything. And then you have this clipboard and it's like, no, here's what you need to do. Go lift weights. Okay, great. I know what I need to do. Yeah.
Yes. You said it like a life coach. That's awesome. That's exactly right.
I love it. Well, this has been so good. I think you've taught us just a great tip and a great way to make mom life simple. Where can people find you and get more?
You are sweet. So I, my website is just Stacy Julian, S T a C Y J U L I a N Stacy, julian.com. And yeah, I teach some online classes. I also you've mentioned the podcast. Welcome to mom's life made simple the podcast for moms who want to go from chaos to calm from overwhelmed, to organize and to find balance between family responsibilities and personal growth. I'm your host Chanelle Neilson. Let's make mom life simple.
Hey, you guys welcome to the podcast. I'm excited to be here today with Darla trendler Darla. Thanks so much for being here.
Oh, thanks Chanel. I am so happy to be here.
Darla and I go way back to back when I had. My previous podcast, we did a mastermind together and Darla has been going strong with her podcast. For many years. I'm thinking it must be close to five years now. How long have you
Actually it'll be four years. It's almost four years.
okay about.
it's been about four since I started working on things, but yeah, not quite there, but close.
Okay, four years. And she is the host of the spiritually minded women podcast, which is a fantastic podcast. She's a mom of four kids and she's just, you will learn so much from her today. She's someone that I have learned a lot from and really admire. So Darla to start off, I'd love for you just to give a brief intro and tell us a little bit more about yourself.
Okay, well, I am an Arizona and I was born here. I moved away when I was a kid and begged my husband to come back and we've lived here for 22 years in the valley and I love it here. I love I'm looking out my window right now and see my orange tree and it's 81 degrees in December. So I love living in Arizona.
I'm kind of a desert person and I have four kids. Two of them are out of the house. They're are 22 and 19. Well, 20, his birthday is like this week. So 22 and 20. And then I have two teenagers at home that are both in high school. They are 14 and 17. So I'm kind of like on that phase of motherhood where I'm learning how to navigate with a young adult children and teenagers.
And, you know, looking ahead that in a few years, there's not going to be any kids living in our home anymore. And I don't think motherhood ever ends. And so. We're kind of looking forward to a new phase of being parents. I'm married to my husband, Tim. We've been married for 24 years. We own a car dealership and I podcast at spirituality women.
I love it. I just love connecting with other women and talking about important things in deep things and sharing other women's stories. So that's what I do.
Oh, I love it so much. I think that's so fun. And Arizona is a good place. It's a little hot, but but it's fantastic in the
Well, we endure those summers because then we have eight months of beautiful weather. So.
Yes. Yes, it is nice in the winter, for sure. So, okay. Well, I'm excited today to learn from some of your wisdom, and I think it's awesome that you are getting to this next phase of motherhood, right? Where your kids are a little bit older. So I think there's a lot that you can teach us having gone through the, the young phase of motherhood and now entering this phase.
So what we're going to talk about today is just one simple thing, which is how do you make mom life since.
Okay. I had to really think about this question and think, you know, what, what is something that I really do to make it simple because it's not always simple. It's, you know, I was talking to my husband this morning about, you know, how hard it is to like, Let your kids do things and teach them how to be independent and teach them things that when it's so much easier to do it yourself, that doesn't really simplify your life.
But the thing that I kind of landed on that has been a practice of mine for several years is when I start to feel that overwhelm. And like I have a million things to do and a million places to be, and all these demands on my time. Is to just take a step back and think what's essential right now. And I got this from, if you've ever read the book, essential ism by Greg McKeown.
I have read that book like four times. I love it. So many of the principles in that book, but this is probably the one that I, that really I took away the most and have implemented the most in my life. And so. When I start feeling those feelings of like, I'm so overwhelmed and I, you know, I don't even know what to do next.
And I've got all these things swirling in my brain because I've always got a lot of things going on. That's just my personality and how I kind of operate. But operating in overwhelm, isn't very fun and it's stressful. So. When I start to feel that way, I've, I've kind of trained myself to just take a step back and take a few deep breaths and kind of recenter myself and just ask the question what's essential right now.
Like what has to be done right now? And just one thing, I'm not multitasking. I'm not going to do, try to do everything at once, but what is the next thing that needs to happen the next step? And it's really interesting. You know, and I, I like to sometimes bring God into it and I'll pray and ask him what he thinks I should do.
And it's really interesting that it's not always these big, huge things. Like sometimes it's, well, you need to go eat something because you didn't eat lunch today and that's going to help you. So that's your next step? Go and eat lunch, or, you know, it might be go prep. Or you know, you need to take some time to go talk to this child in their room.
And, and then I do that and then I think, okay, what's the next thing I need to do? And I, you know, just try to prioritize and think, not think too far ahead or too, you don't get overwhelmed by the million things on my to-do list and just. What is the simple thing that I can do right now that, you know, I can just focus, give it my full attention and focus and doing that has really, it really has simplified my life.
It really has made things a lot easier. I'm not perfect at it. There's still lots of times when I. Get sucked into that overwhelm. But when I do do it, I just, I noticed that it brings a peace into my life. It makes everything easier to tackle. And it makes me a happier mom and a lot easier to live with when I'm not so overwhelmed.
Oh, I love that so much. I've read essential ism several times myself, but I haven't really implemented that technique. And I think it's so good because it's just something. You can do in the moment of overwhelm. Right. And I think a lot of times we feel that overwhelmed because we're like 20 things going on, you know, all the, all these things that I have to do right now.
And so to really just break it down to, you know, that simple question what's essential right now, I think is so good. So I want to get rid of. Specific here. You mentioned you pray and you ask, and I think that's really cool to ask for God's help in this. What do you do? So you're praying. What do you do when you feel like you don't get an answer or do you always get an answer to this question?
How do you know if you're like, okay, but 20 things what's essential right now. I don't know. I don't know. What's essential right now. What comes next?
Yeah, that's a really good question because it's not to say like, okay, I hear a voice in my head and it tells me this is what you should do. It's not like that. I kind of just go off of, okay. This feels right. And I start taking a step forward. Okay. That's kind of how that's, how I know that I'm on the right track is I it's always involved action.
If I'm just sitting there fretting and thinking, I don't know what to do next. So if I just take a step, it's usually very clear. It becomes very clear, okay, this is what I should be doing right now, or this is not, and I'm going to redirect and practically, I mean, writing everything out is, is a good tool as well.
Like making a list like these are all the things. In my brain. Like sometimes I do that at night. I can sometimes struggle to sleep at night because my brain doesn't shut down and I'm just thinking it's going a mile a minute. And I'm thinking about all the things. And I found that if I can just. Let's do a brain dump on it in my notebook of all the things I need to get done tomorrow.
And then I'm not prioritizing them. I'm not, you know, I'm just saying, okay, I need to do this and I need to do this and I need to do this. And I just get them out of my brain. And, and so that sometimes helps me too, when I'm in that overwhelm and thinking, okay, what do I need to do next? And I don't always make a list, but when I have made a list, I go to that list and I think, okay, of all these things, like what's going to be most important right now.
And so. So practically, I think, I think it's those two things. I just start taking action and then, you know, looking at that list and saying, okay, what, what feels like the next?
right thing to do?
Yeah, I love that. I think that's so good. I think. One thing that I'm pulling out from that, one of the things that writing down helps us do is to really see what we have in clear, you know, action items, steps, because when we don't write it down, it's like this, it just grows in our mind. I remember once just sitting there being like, oh my gosh, I have so much to it.
I have so much to do going through my mind. And then I wrote it down and I only came up with like three or four things and I'm like, oh, is that all. Once I could see it, it wasn't that many things, but that those things had a lot of weight. And so it just felt like a lot. And when I saw it listed out, it, it felt much more doable.
Now you bring up another good point, which is just taking forward steps and taking action. So I think that that's another good tool there too. That you're actually. Making progress and you're moving forward. Any tips for, you know, when those action items are seeming hard and, and feeling big, how do you really, you know, move forward and take that action on those?
Okay, well, I'm going to bring up Greg McKeown again because he wrote a SQL to essential ism. And now the Tuft, the name of It It's another
It starts with E.
I can't even remember now, but he talks about in that book, I just finished reading that one and he talks about just make it, oh, how could you make something easy?
Because I mean, in my, I just said, like my mind's going a mile a minute and I make things hard in my thoughts in my brain. Like, I make things much harder than they need to be. And he's saying. Well, just, just how, how can this task be accomplished easily? Like, what's the easiest way to get this done and
That's the name of his
effortless.
Okay. Thank you. Gosh, I can't, I just read it. I came up, but I read on my Kindle, so I don't sit and look at the title. And so, yeah. Anyway yeah, so like that's what he says in the book.
How can we make this effortless? Like, you know what was the question you asked me?
So I was asking like, how do you, you were on the right track. How do you take this action and how do you know what action to take and how do you simplify the actual.
Yeah. Okay. So that's one way to simplify it as just to say, okay, I'm going to do this in the most easy way possible. Another thing I think is to just start taking steps and I will tell you that a lot of times I know that there's something big picture that needs to happen, but I don't really know exactly how I'm going to get there, but I know that if I take a step, I'll figure out the next step.
And, and then we'll figure out the next step. And that is pretty much how my life goes. I would say 90% of the time, I don't really ever have this huge vision and picture. And I know some people are like that. It's just not me. Like, I don't, that was just how I was created. And I have just, sometimes that's frustrated me, but I have learned to just embrace that.
It is okay. I just have found that there's, it's powerful. It helps you feel empowered when you take a step and you accomplish something. And then once you take that step, it sort of opens up to, okay, this is the next thing that needs to happen.
Yeah. I think that most of us are really that way. Even if you have sort of an idea and a picture of how you want to end up, you often don't know. The steps. And so I think what you're saying is key is, you know, you have to just move into it, take a step forward and take the movement and take the action.
And then you see the next steps. And I think nowhere is that more true than motherhood? I mean, it's true in business. It's true goals, but also in motherhood, there is definitely no manual. Yeah, right. So we don't know like, okay, if I do this with this kid, they're going to turn out like this, or this is gonna, you know, bring up this other thing and we just take forward steps and make movement.
And you know, that really is what creates and really leads to getting out of that overwhelm. Because I think another thing that is coming up as you're talking is this idea that We want to see that big picture. I know for me, I would love to have it all laid out. You know, I want to do this project.
Okay. Here are steps one through 10 of what you need to do. And if only it were so simple, right. But if you can only take step one, The other steps will become more apparent. And that's where that overwhelm is. The overwhelm comes from, I've got to do steps one through 10. No, you don't. And that's what I hear you saying.
Just do a little, and then you'll see to know what comes up next. Any other thoughts on how this has helped you, this technique that you do on, you know, asking yourself what's essential right now? Tell us just a little bit more to finish up about what it's done for you and what you feel like it can do for other, other moms.
Well, I kind of think another way to look at it is. That you're being, you're a creator. You're creating something in your life. And to me, knowing that I'm creating something, like, I think we all have this innate desire to create into, you know, to build something. And, you know, most people I think are wired that way.
And I know definitely that I am. And so taking action and, you know, just being focused on. What's the next thing I need to do is a way of creating. And I think that's what propels you forward as you create. Something in your life. And then that creation opens up the next step. And so I think that's just another way to look at taking action is just that you want to be a creator and that it gives you momentum.
It gives you, makes you feel powerful and like, okay, I have some control here when you've actually. Taking the time to go and create something. And I'm not talking about sometimes it's a physical creation of something like maybe dinner. I, I hardly ever cook dinner. And when I do, it's like, yay. I did it.
You know, I felt really good about that. When I make, when I've done that, made that effort because it is something that's important to me, but it's just been crazy and gone kind of gotten pushed aside. But does that make sense? Like, I just feel like there. You'll you'll feel so good about what you're accomplishing when you are creating and.
You know, the other thing is when I talked about making that list, like I loved what you said about like sometimes in your brain, it's much bigger than when you, where you put it on paper. It's not as big and I've experienced that, but I've also experienced times where I have put all this stuff on the paper and the things just keep coming and coming and coming, like there's more and more to write and obviously more than I could ever accomplish in a day.
But I found that when I have just taken those steps and done the next thing and then done the next thing and, you know, looked at that list and kept going. Even if I don't accomplish everything in the timeframe that I think I should accomplish it, I still feel good. And I still feel momentum because I did something right.
I created, I took a step. I ha I have action in my life.
Yeah. Oh, I think that is such a cool. I think creation is a spiritual principle. It's, you know, we are creating. here to create really. And we're here to God has shown us, you know, how he creates and then we are to be like him and create. And so I think that that's a such a cool thing to tie that in with this, because it's so much bigger.
And when we can see that, that, again, it goes back to that big picture, right. When we see, oh, this isn't just. Making dinner, getting dinner on the table. This is taking these materials, you know, and making them into something that's sustains and feeds my family. This is creating a memory. This is creating time together, and it just ties us into this big picture vision.
And it makes these little things. I feel so purposeful is what it does. And so that's a great way to make mom life simple. It's taking the things that see. Mundane and bringing purpose and meaning to them. So thank you for tying that in. I think that that is an excellent mindset thing that we can also focus on.
You've had so many awesome things to share today. I know people will want to follow you and learn more. Where's the best place for them to do that.
Well, I mostly on social media, I'm mostly on Instagram and you can find me at spiritually minded women. And that is also the name of my podcast. Spirits. You might have women, you can find it anywhere that you listen to podcasts. And it's also my website. So spirituality, women.com. Any of those places, if you search, you will, that's where I'll be.
You'll find me.
Wonderful. Well, Darla, thank you so much for being here today. I really appreciate it.

Welcome to MOMS life made simple the podcast for moms who want to go from chaos to calm from overwhelmed, to organize and to find balance between family responsibilities and personal growth. I'm your host Chanelle Neilson. Let's make mom life simple.
Hello and welcome to mom's life made simple I'm Chanel Neilson, and today is just a short introductory episode to let you know who I am and what to expect from the podcast. So, like I said, my name's Chanel. I live in Southern California with my husband. We've been married since the year 2000. And we have five kids.
Our oldest just started her first year at college, and our youngest just started transitional kindergarten, which is a grade, an extra grade here for kids that whose birthdays are between September and December and didn't make the cutoff and they get to go to school an extra year before kindergarten.
And our three middle children are all boys. So we have only boys here at home and we have a lot of fun with them. I love yoga. I love being outside, going for walks in the sunshine. I love the warm weather and I love dark chocolate. A lot of it. So I'm glad that it's good for you. And I also really love learning.
I love teaching and I love helping and connecting with moms. And I really see a lot of moms feeling that motherhood is hard feeling that. Feeling of being overwhelmed or struggling or wanting to do things for themselves and feeling like that's not even an option whether that's self care or working on.
Big goals, like creating a business or writing a book or running a marathon or those kinds of things feel that they can't do all that they want to, and can't live up to their potential because of their motherhood. And I love to help moms to find that balance between being the best moms that they can, because I believe motherhood is so important and doing those things that fill and uploading.
But you as a person. And I think that that's what I, where I shine is helping moms simplify things and make their lives just a little bit more simple so that they can do both really. So the way that I do this and what this podcast will focus on is the mom's method, which is making life simple through M O M S.
And that stands for manifestation organization, mobilization and simplification. So manifestation is really. I like to think of it as spiritual creation or co-creation with God. And what this means to me is living with intention. It means really understanding what it is you want in your life, what you are hoping to accomplish and achieve and believing that you can get there.
It's listening to those desires that I believe were placed in you by God. And. Working with him to get where you want to go. So that manifestation also takes space. That you will be able to accomplish what you want to accomplish, and that belief is going to sustain you in the things that you do next is organization.
So when I'm talking about organization, we're talking about organizing your thoughts, organizing your day, your schedule organizing. The space, your environment. And when we're really organized, what happens is we're able to prioritize. We're able to start doing the things that are important instead of the things that are urgent as moms, there are so many things that demand our attention right now, and those urgent.
Feel, and sometimes are important. However, what's really important to you to that big picture vision that you have for your life to that big picture vision that God has for your life. What are those important things? Are they even making it into your schedule? Are they making it into your day? Proper organization of your day is what's going to allow you to make progress on those.
The next M is mobilization mobilization means taking action. One of the best ways that we can take action is through tiny, daily repeated, consistent actions. So what that means, habits, habits, and routines. When we take little actions, Every day, we're going to see consistent and steady progress. And as moms who have a lot of demands on our time, this is really the best way to see forward momentum and to see progress often we can't just block out, you know, a few weeks to work on a project because there's life, there's a family meeting us and we need to.
Take care of their needs. And yet when we have daily actions that allow us to make progress on the things that matter to us, we'll still be able to see things happening toward our personal goals. So our habits and routines. Serve us. And they help us create both the present and the future that we're looking to build.
Finally, the S is for simplification. So simplification means clearing out any of the things that are holding you back. So you want to simplify your stuff, simplify your physical space. When we have too many things, It weighs on us and those things demand space in our home space, in our energy, and they kind of can weigh us.
We also want to simplify our minds, mental simplification, what is weighing us down mentally that doesn't need to be there, that we can clear out when we simplify and we get rid of the things that aren't serving us, we're able to really make progress. We're able to be more joyful and to create the kind of life that we're looking to have.
So this podcast will focus on. Manifestation organization, mobilization and simplification. So each week I will bring you brand new episodes that will help uplift, inspire you and help you to make your mom life more simple. I would love it. If you would rate and review this podcast in iTunes. And share it with a friend that really will help the podcast to grow. And I appreciate that when you take the time to do that, I also would love it. If you reached out, let me know when an episode stands out to you, what did you like about it?
What further questions do you have? I have podcasted in the past, but I stepped away from podcasting to coach because I wanted that conversation. Now I'm back in the podcast world and so thrilled to be here, but I want to keep this conversation going.
And so let me know what questions you have, what stands out so that we can keep the conversation going. I hope to see you here each week on mom's life made simple.
