Rufus and Le’Keisha Johnson adopted their daughter and loved her at first sight. But, they had no idea their daughter would have a multitude of special needs, which thrust them into a whole new world. The Perfect Gift Podcast follows our journey as a special needs family. In this podcast, we plan to cover a wide array of topics ranging from adoption to managing various medical needs of our child. In addition, we will interview families that have similar journeys and discuss their daily experiences. We hope you enjoy The Perfect Gift podcast.
We decided to switch it up and pivot from discussing special needs; to this episode focusing on adoption. So today, we introduce our listeners to my good friend, Hank Willis, as he discusses his journey into the world of Transracial Adoption. We hope this episode blesses you.

Happy New Year, Listeners!!
We introduce our new theme for the year, “It takes a village.” Our family is very blessed by the community of people that help us raise and support our daughter—from adoption to providing specific medical care needs; we know it truly does take a village to raise our child. In this episode, we introduce our listeners to Adira’s Private Duty Home Health Nurse, Julie Ann Melton. She plays a vital role in our family, administering and advocating the appropriate medical needs for Adira.
Julie Ann Melton, RN, BSN, is Adira’s private duty nurse through Pediatric Home Healthcare. In this role, she provides one-on-one care for Adira in her home and school environment. Such care includes promoting health and disease prevention, medication/feeding administration, providing emotional support, assisting in virtual OT, PT, and Speech therapy sessions, and providing primary daily care such as personal hygiene and grooming. In addition, home health care offers medically fragile patients continuous nursing care in the comfort of their homes.
Hey there, listeners! We are back after taking a few months off. In this episode, we briefly talk about the medical issues that Adira faced over the past few months along with some other challenges that have occurred. We hope you enjoy this episode, and we look forward to bringing you more content in the next month and in the new year. Thanks for listening.
