In this episode, Sara has a conversation with Michelle Hunter. Michelle shares how she works daily to embody that she is enough just as she is. Whenever she is struggling she goes back to the simple phrase "I am enough just as I am, just as I am". We so often do not give ourselves enough credit for how incredible we are just as we are.

  1. Grew up always believing that being skinny meant that she was worthy. Self-talk was a constant stream of negativity and not feeling that she was good enough or worthy. Always concerned with what other people thought of her or what people were saying about her.
  2. This self-talk created immense levels of anxiety and the need to control and predict every moment of every gathering or scenario. She truly believed that she could not show up as herself and be accepted as her. She desperately wanted to be just like everyone else and as a result never really got to know herself and Michelle
  3. Her social and personal anxiety changed as she grew, after the birth of her first child she experience anxiety around leaving him even with his dad as she was unable to control anything that could possibly happen when she was not present. She experiences anxiety around his development, starting daycare/school, and not always being present
  4. Michelle lost a child near the end of her second pregnancy and her first experience of losing true control over her own experience. Shortly after she found herself pregnant again and all she wanted was to know that a stillbirth was not going to happen again and no one could provide that answer. Using all of her control to know her movements and always being ready to go to the hospital if needed, if she could control that then she could save her.
  5. Michelle found help in finding and connecting with other women who had, had a similar experience. Women who knew a similar experience and could connect with what she was feeling. Helping her to move forward. However, this experience was proof that she was not good enough.
  6. Control remain the only mechanism she had to cope with her anxiety. Michelle began to shift her control from external to internal. Controlling what she ate, when she ate, how often she worked out, and how hard she worked out.

In this episode, Paul shares his journey from unexpectedly losing his job which was pivotal to his role within his family and his identity as a provider for the family. He began by googling what it was to be a good husband which eventually lead to learning what it was to be a good man.

  1. How a true understanding of embodiment and how our physical bodies are the vessels that hold and express who we are to the world. Even our voice does not happen without the body doing certain things and voice changes based on how the body feels at a certain moment.
  2. The danger with spiritual work is that we are always looking for something outside of ourselves when really everything that we need already lives within us. Asking how do you get to the place where you feel that you have full permission to show up the way you want to show up and readiness to deal with the consequences.
  3. Humans are the only creatures that hold onto trauma, as humans, we have been taught that "boys don't cry" "man up" and that due to this we have to use other ways to release the trauma that our bodies hold onto whether through, breath work, myofascial release, or shaking.

In this episode, Sara has a conversation with her Aunt Denise a Licensed Mental Health Therapist in the State of Florida. They discuss all things finding a therapist that will work for you.

They discuss:

3 key components to saying yes to a therapist, Trusting your gut to decide if they are a good fit, knowing your boundaries, and having an understanding of what results you would like.

The importance of being a part of your treatment plan, ensuring that your therapist understands the timeline you can afford, and if you would like tools and resources,

Therapy is for you, but feeling comfortable and connected with your therapist is key. On initial appointment, share as much as you are comfortable sharing, but you can also ask questions about the therapist's credentials, specialties,

Be open to what you may hear, be open to seeing things differently, be open to releasing old thought patterns, be open to healing from the inside out, be open to emotion, be open to hope. If you are ready to rise from the darkness, it is much easier with a non-judgemental ear by your side to guide you along.

Therapist red flags: Trust your gut always, if they disclose too much personal information, you feel despair more than you feel hope. Some sessions will be hard, but you should start to feel hope within the first few. Know that you can always switch therapists at any time!

Sara highly recommends taking notes as you listen to this episode. These tactics can apply to not only choosing a therapist but anyone you are sharing personal experiences with.

Meet Denise:

Denise is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist in the state of Florida. When she decided to become a therapist in her 40s everyone that knew her said, "finally!" She says that her career in therapy started at age 3 when she would line her dolls up on the sofa and help them through their troubles. In this episode, Shannon shares her journey to find herself and how she navigated the challenges of grief after the traumatic loss of her daughter Katie.

  1. The first step through grief recognizes the choice that you have, both options are difficult, and neither will change your loss. To remain in grief or get out of bed and attempt to move forward and find joy in life again.

  2. How she started by doing one small thing every day, how the same thing did not always work every day, but over time the little things compounded, and she slowly moved forward.

  3. The recognition that what works for her may not work for you. Every grief experience is different. Allowing yourself to feel on the hard days and remembering to find comfort in the small things: Dog cuddles, nature, coffee and conversation with those you love.

Meet Shannon:

Shannon struggled to navigate the darkness of her grief while life carried on and people went back to their own lives. In this episode, Sara shares a recent conversation with Marsha Vanwynsberghe. Sara discusses how it is that she came to work with Marsha and her tips on how to pick a couch.

  1. You are already having results from the tangible tools and guidance from their social, podcasts, speaking engagements, etc. and seeing results
  2. They do NOT guarantee results or tell you what you will get out of the program. They share a general guideline of what is included.
  3. They don't tell you why you should be in the program or what they offer. They offer support and wait for you to ask for more.
  4. Follow that gut feeling ALWAYS!

They also discuss how to figure out what the dream job is. The short answer is it comes from within you. It is the result of your life experiences in combination with the gifts you were born with.

In this episode, Sara shares a recent realization of her continual battle with self-worth. Although she has spent the last two years working on herself and can now see endless possibilities in her life, she does not always believe that she is worthy of it. This lack of worth leads to the spiral of procrastination, not taking her own advice, and making things so much harder than they need to be.

But the result of all of this work is that she now realizes the spiral much faster: mood swings, Netflix's, and fatigue. But she has also surrounded herself with women that recognize it and ask the hard questions.

Sara can now take the steps that she needs to head back on track, getting up and cleaning the house (vacuuming solves ), regular meals, regular fitness, scripting, journals, conversations, and identifying specific action steps to get focused and back to work.

Sara also what she is thankful for with Canadian Thanksgiving just passing. We so often get caught up in life and mindset of lack, wanting this or that, more money, a different lifestyle, wishing and praying for things to be different. So many of us are lucky to have access to basic things that most of the world does not. Hydro, running water, heat, medicine, choice of health, choice of nutritious food. And how if we remember those things that we often take for granted and live from a place of abundance and creation and not lack, we would live much happier and fulfilled lives.

Sara asks some thought-provoking questions at the end of this episode. She encourages you to take some time to answer them as you continue down your path you.

How do you define abundance?
What does it mean to have an abundant life?
Do you believe you are worthy of an abundant life?

In today's Path to Me Podcast episode, Sara shares how she found the relationships that she always wanted. She discusses how it was not until she began to work on herself that she realized that she was worthy and enough. That she can truly be herself around others because people love her for her, and that those "relationships" she has always been searching for were there all along.

She just could not see what others were offering because she could not see beyond the story that she was too different to have "those" types of relationships. It was in learning to love and accept herself that she found authentic relationships with others.

Sara asks some thought-provoking questions at the end of this episode. She encourages you to take some time to answer them as you continue down your path you.

What qualities do you seek out in friends?
Why are these qualities important to you?
Why donèt you have those types of relationships?

Today I am sharing a conversation I had with my dear friend Kelly. Kelly discusses how at the age of 41 she finally got to know herself.

Kelly discusses that due to the fear of upsetting the world around her she lost her voice. She shares that through finding her voice she has learned who she is as Kelly, independent of others' beliefs.

Kelly discusses that when you are not speaking your truth or using your voice you develop anxiety or unease because using or voice allows you to stand in your personal power which creates ease in your life.

Kelly also discusses her journey through the recovery of alcohol and drugs was not an easy choice but that the vulnerability of others showed her new possibilities in life. She also discusses how when she began to open up to those closest to her she began to find freedom.

Kelly's first step to changing her path was moving her body. Short walks and audiobooks pushed her forward into a life she never imagined possible for her.

Meet Kelly Thorne. Kelly, is a Canadian speaker, coach, teacher and author. She is a single mom to twins and an advocate for families living alongside addiction. Her mission is to help families affected by addiction find freedom in their own lives, remove guilt, and empower themselves on their own journey of self-discovery. Through her own personal story of recovery, in addition to being a spouse who lives alongside addiction, Kelly has had to learn how to navigate co-parenting through separation and addiction, effective communication, and the implementation of consistent boundaries in her life and relationships. When Kelly shifted her story from blame to ownership, she began to create the change she was so desperately searching for. Kelly offers coaching and programs dedicated to helping women trust and use their voice, build their courage, and create freedom in their own life.

Today on Path to Me Podcast, Sarah and Sara have an open conversation about Sarah's path through grief after the loss of her partner.

  1. Sarah discusses how journalling provided a way for her to remember her journey through the fog of time that she lost to grief. Sarah also discusses how those journal entries have allowed her to see how far she has come because some days it feels like the journey is just beginning.
  2. Sarah shares how she scoured the internet looking for a guide to know that one day life with a loss would be easier but all she could find was textbook answers that told her what phase she should be in, which was not comforting. She hopes that is sharing her journey through this grief she can help others move through their own experience and know that whatever they are experiencing is normal. But also that it does get a little better over time.
  3. She discusses how having a friend to lean on and hold her accountable through the process was pivotal and encourages others that may not have a friend they can be open with to invest in therapy.

Meet Sarah Ozmond! Sarah is an Ontario-based, recently published author in a dynamic collaboration with several inspiring women. In She is Strong and Free III, Sarah shares her story of grief and discovery around the loss of her partner almost 5 years ago. When she is not busy pouring maple syrup on something or dancing in her kitchen, Sarah focuses on writing or having honest conversations with people on a similar journey.

Episode 3: I Started Listening to Me with Marsha Vanwynsberghe

In today's episode, Marsha shares her journey through teen substance abuse and how she lost herself trying to save her teens. While also dealing with the opinions and judgments of others. Marsha discusses how her life began to change when she realized that she needed to save herself first to save her teens.

In the process of rebuilding her life and redefining who she was so that she could be a better support to her family, Marsha started by listening to herself and what she needed. Marsha learned that when she truly listened to herself, she realized how unaligned she was within her life and began to take steps to learn what would work for her and her family.

She recognized that nothing would change until she took ownership of her role in the blame she carried towards others in losing herself to the chaos within her world.

The first step Marsha took towards the life she has today was finding a Crisis worker who provided her with tools she could implement and start taking action towards changing her life.

Marsha discusses how pivotal implementing boundaries was in providing safety within her world and how saying no to things allowed her to say yes to herself. But ultimately, the thing that has saved her life and leads Marsha to the life she has today was learning to listen to herself and trust her intuition.

Episode 1: My Journey to Podcast.

Today, Sara discusses what led her to start this podcast and what you can expect from listening to this podcast.

In this episode, Sara shares her journey through the education system and how the opinions of others and failure lead to her feeling incapable, like a disappointment, and different from everyone around her.

She discusses that going with the flow became the norm, and "I don't know" became her favourite phrase because just going with the flow allowed her to fit in with those around her regardless of what she really wanted. But it also allowed her to play small as she was afraid of failing or disappointing others again. As she no longer had faith in herself.

When Sara finally reached the crossroad in her life and could no longer continue down the path of frustration, anger, guilt, and resentment, deep in burnout and compassion fatigue, she began investing in herself. Therapy, Mentorship, Journaling, and Mediation, along with all things water, healthy foods, and exercise, are all tools that lead Sara down this new path to who she is today.
