Generational Fire Podcasts are conversations from believers in Jesus who discuss their faith walk. Inspired by a daughter’s request to have her father record the conversations they were having together so she would remember. This is a response to that request and pass the fire to the next generation.

Hope may have worked the English of 400 years ago, but not today. Four hundred years ago it had the idea of confidence, today it means almost the opposite.

22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Faith (4102/pistis) is always a gift from God, and never something that can be produced by people. In short, 4102/pistis ("faith") for the believer is "God's divine persuasion" – and therefore distinct from human belief (confidence), yet involving it.

SOBER JUDGEMENT- sōphronéō- reflects what God defines is true moderation. This God-controlled perspective blends the extremities of truth on both sides of a matter.
The whole word-family (root, sōphro-) comes from two words: sōos ("safe") and phrēn ("what regulates life," the root of the English term, "diaphram").
Example: An opera singer controls the length (quality) of their tones by their diaphragm, which even controls our ability to breathe and moderates heartbeat. This regulates ("brings safety") to the body, keeping it properly controlled.]
John 4

Law of Attraction
This one is probably the most popular. This is the belief that if we think positively and have faith, we will get whatever we desire from God. The Law of Attraction is based on the idea that “like attracts like.” Teachers of the Law of Attraction will often tell you to believe, imagine, or visualize what you want from God and He will make it true for you.
I John 2:15
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Follow your heart
The next New Age belief that has bled into the church is the belief that we should follow our feelings and that our emotions are indicators of truth and guidance.
Prov 28:26
Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
We are little or mini gods
The idea is that because we are children of God, we are also mini gods and can obtain anything we please because we are also divine in nature. We see this in the church when individuals focus on serving self and their desire for money, fame, and material wealth. They present the idea that Jesus died so we can have all we want here on earth.
Oneness
Next, oneness is the idea that we can become righteous or one with God by being sinless, not by faith alone. The Bible teaches that sanctification is a process and there isn’t a destination that we arrive at here on earth.
1 John 1:8-10
8If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
All roads lead to heaven
The teaching that one can believe in Jesus and practice other faiths. They believe that there are many spiritual or religious paths to God and heaven.
John14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Do not be ashamed of the Gospel
properly, disgraced, like someone "singled out" because they misplaced their confidence or support ("believed the big lie"); to be ashamed (personally humiliated).
Mark 8:34-38
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35For whoever would save his lifed will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37For what can a man give in return for his soul? 38For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

Racial activist and former fugitive Angela Davis was shocked to learn she is a Mayflower descendent on Tuesday's episode of "Finding Your Roots" on PBS.
Davis is notorious for working with the Communist Party USA and the Black Panther Party in the 1960s and 70s. Her involvement in the armed takeover of a California courtroom resulted in four deaths and her placement on the FBI's Most Wanted List.
Now 79, Davis was the latest to appear on the PBS show where celebrities and public figures learn about their ancestry.

I believe this is one reason for our discerned vision problem in the church- we don’t clearly see (myself included) that we are saved to help establish the culture of God in the world- not that the concept would be rejected by us but in practice (this sucks) we do.
1. I accept the culture as the way it is. It’s inevitable
2. We’ve ( most mainline evangelical thought) allowed the secularists to tell us to relegate our church life to our church building. We are called to establish a Christian culture -
3. People freak out and accuse us of being dominionists - which we are, just not the kind they think- we don’t want to usher it in by the sword (zealots) - we want to bring it in through Love, hospitality, serving…. Etc If we are asked by the unbelieving world
The people of God have always fluctuated between honoring God, finding him holy and finding him common and ordinary. We honor with our lips but our hearts are far from him.
Prayer, why should we pray? What should we actually expect? How do we know it works? How is it any different than witchcraft which basically uses spells and such? Prayer is our DEPENDENCE on God. What's God's ultimate goal and what are we looking for to happen?
Identity in Christ. Eventually, you need to take a stand, shake off the past and follow Jesus. If we don't we become hard-hearted and unable to hear from the Holy Spirit. There's a struggle with "self" and we have to trust God. Hope is trusting God.
Wisdom comes from above. It is the power of discernment. The fear of the Lord is the fear of leaving God, and that is the beginning of wisdom.
So by putting God first in our life, making my decisions based upon what will bring God the most pleasure will start me on the road to wisdom.
Interdenominational cooperation. I Cor 1:12 could just as easily read denominationally. There is one body, one Lord and He has a purpose. Message for our kids as they walk in humility, grow and meet other Christians to lead the coming revival.
We attend congregations whose hearts are to have intentional community. Eric and I have talked about this at length and it's a necessity in our lives. We would like to get someone else's perspective from another congregation.
We have similar backgrounds. I have grown up in Christian schools, went to a traditional Baptist church, and now attend a Charismatic church. Joel has grown up in a Pentecostal church and now goes to a Free Methodist Church and now is studying to become a pastor. We have taken truths from these areas of our lives and continue to grow in our relationships with Jesus.
This week Eric, David and Jeremiah talk about how personal responsibility is the path to freedom and going through things you can feel like no one understands but not only God does but other close to you do as well.
We read the Bible is it full of regular people following God who does incredible things through them while they still have flaws.
Even the King of Kings had to align his will to the Father’s. If we stay aligned with God’s will we stay under his protection. We cannot have love without vulnerability, risk and pain.

We push kids to college to make their lives better without really looking at who called God them to be and how He has designed them. Especially for men this can kill their drive and vision and immobilize them. It takes the challenge and fighting spirit out of our boys.
Be all in or all out. Not Luke warm. Authentic love. Reflect the image of God. Engage in the struggle to fight for your life.
God will give us a calling but often times the world will not understand and reject us for it

Boys need to engage in real play and contain their natural aggression. This helps them to face their fear and be willing to go out into the unknown.
