Welcome to the Accountable UK podcast. Accountable UK is the platform for UK citizens to exercise the power of their vote and keep a check on whether their MPs are acting in their best interests. We keep a check on whether the majority voice is being represented in Parliament and by the mainstream media, activists and anyone who claims to represent what the majority in the country really want. This series of podcasts cover important issues and topics that affect everyday lives of those who matter the most in a Democracy – the people.
In episode 3, we discuss the growing social culture of activism and protesting. It is a welcome sight (after many years of low participation) to see how people are getting more involved in politics. But what happens when the right to protest starts to infringe on people’s civil liberties? When cancel culture starts to weaponise the right to protest to limit people’s freedom of speech or movement?
In episode 4, we examine how countries like China create social policies that enforce outcomes that we in the West would deem to be the domain of individuals. Especially when those rights involve the rights of parents to raise their children. Should Big Government step in when too many people do not exercise individual responsibility for themselves, their communities and their children?
In Episode 2, we discuss the dangers of narcissistic leaders. Are the superstar CEOs of big tech companies turning into narcissists? What makes A-list celebrities think that they can push for changes in our society according to their world view? Who elected them to speak for us and why do we continue to treat them as if they are more than just business owners or creators of entertainment?
