Women’s Crew Rowing Coach Mike Sullivan loves the feel of a boat gliding through the water and the team effort it takes. He rowed for UCI from 1970-74 with great success and never strayed far from the sport during his computer career at Stanford. After retiring, in September 2020 he returned to the back bay UCI boathouse to coach and body surf. He enthusiastically proclaims, “it’s been FANTASTIC”! Listen in as Chemistry Professor Emeritus Everly Fleischer takes us on an amazing career ride starting as a student in the 1950’s at Yale. After graduation he heads to the University of Chicago, teaching in the wild 1960’s and living next to Hyde Park. He then comes for brand new UCI, does chemistry research and starts taking on administrative positions such as department chair and then Dean of Physical Sciences. His next move takes him to Boulder, CO for one of the coolest jobs ever…and about a decade later he ends up at UC Riverside as an executive vice chancellor. Wow! Astronomy Professor Paul Robertson explores our incredible Milky Way Galaxy and beyond. His research looks for planets outside of our solar system, in the “Goldilocks Zone”, where life is most likely to be found. Today, his work includes “wobbling stars”, the color spectrum of heat and encouraging students to be uncomfortable in their area of study (that’s how you learn). This is a WOW interview :)

UCI Track & Field decathlete Josh Farmer is moving up in the world of decathlete competition with his recent first collegiate victory at the Azusa-Pacific Franson Classic and finishing a very respectable 16th at the NCAA Div 1 Track & Field Championships. Michael Rydzynski arrived at UCI in 1973. He received his undergraduate percussion degree in 1978. In 1992 he was awarded a graduate degree. In 1977, he began a classical music show on KUCI and basically never left. He has played percussion in almost every major orchestra and symphony in Southern California. Here he reminisces about UCI, KUCI and his love of music.

Iris Adam served UCI for 17 years. The last 10 years as Director of Accreditation for the School of Engineering. She also was very active in ZotSpeak Toastmasters and gave hundreds of presentations to students interested in communication and interviewing skills. Iris retired from UCI this week.
