The Education NewsCast discusses news, trends and basics of corporate learning and educational topics. Co-hosts Thomas Jenewein and Christoph Haffner talk with experts and colleagues sharing their experiences and expertise in learning and development within their companies, universities or public institutions. In this edition we compile all English interviews for those who don’t speak German.
Martina Willam is Director Product Management at SAP SuccessFactors for talent solutions. She shares her view on why skills and AI are the two hot topics when looking into the HR space these days. We are looking into the questions organizations want to address with skills management like “What competencies and skills do my employees possess? And how can I keep this data up to date?”, what the typical pitfalls are if you want to become a skills-based organization and what can help to overcome them. And she states the importance of the employee perspective. We discuss SAPs approach to skills management from the whole self model to different solutions like the SAP Talent Intelligence Hub, the Attribute Library and the different scenarios like for recruiting, people development or workforce management. In this episode of EducationNewscast, host Thomas Jenewein interviews Gigi Matacco, VP Change Management in SAPs next phase of transformation. The conversation looks at the important elements of Enterprise Change Management (ECM), with Gigi sharing her thoughts like end-to-end and holisic thinking, leadership commitment, and the importance of a collective ‘we-feeling’. She also explains the differences of ECM to a project or programmatic approach like Prosci, and shares some of the methods she finds helpful, such as impact analytics around high-level personas, the McKinsey Influence Model and a data driven approach. Gigi describes examples from her experience, including SAP’s largest transformation journey to becoming a next-level cloud company and how it was accompanied by leveraging ECM .
In the end, she reflects on the approach to co-responsibility and the importance of shifting from ‘change that is done to people’ to ‘change that we do together’. Frank differentiates between services for authors, including the generation of text and quizzes embedded in the workflow, and services for learners, such as knowledge discovery and learning advisory. He shares valuable lessons learned from leveraging AI for search, including strategies to achieve confidence scores as high as 92% by leveraging structured data and grounding techniques. He also provides recommendations for companies interested in leveraging AI for product learning. As the AI field progressively develops, we look into the future with topics like Auto Gen Studio (multi-agent frameworks) and applied prompt engineering. In this episode of the Education Newscast, we’re joined by Luis Suarez, Co-Founder of asynco, a well-seasoned community builder and a Social / Open Business strategist with over 27 years’ working experience in the fields of Knowledge Management, Collaboration, Learning, Online Communities of Practice, Remote / Distributed Work and Social Networking for Business. We talk about working with #NoEmail – Luis has abandoned e-mail since 16 years by now. He shares the journey from traditional email to a more social, collaborative communication approach using social, collaborative tools that encourage open communication and foster a sense of community. This podcast was recorded on the SAP Training and Change forum with Charles Jennings, known to many as a long-time promoter of the 70:20:10 model. Charles introduced the model briefly and its focus on learning through practice, experience or collaboration and discussed its adoption and implementation. This is not a fixed set of rules, but rather a framework. Patterns in adopting the model are due more to organizational culture than in national or industry sector cultures. For example values of openness, high psychological safety, or willingness to change favour adoption of the model. He also shared some tips for practitioners. For example, he suggested creating collaborative experiences such as around peer learning and networking, focusing on learning resources, not training and how to use performance outcomes for measurement of impact such as time-to-performance or actual task completion rather than just measuring ‘learning outputs’. Andreas has been an IT and SAP expert for over 2 decades. Currently he serves as Principal Director in the global SAP S/4HANA Cloud Expertise Service team. In the podcast he shares his view on cloud mindset and respective elements like business process standardization, innovation adoption, collaborating in expert communities or the speed of implementing. We talk about assumptions, mis-assumptions and fails in cloud projects – where the biggest fail is to underestimate the human factor. Andreas shares his experience of sound organizational change approaches like the change readiness or cloud mindset assessment, change impact assessment aligned to the fit-to standard workshops as well important values to consider. Christoph Haffner and Thomas Jenewein virtually met Karina Edmonds, head of Academies and University Alliances at SAP. Prior to her new role at SAP, Karina worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in the field of technology transfer, under the Obama administration, she joined the U.S. Department of Energy and for Google, she started the university relations. Chris, who is based in Sydney, heads Learning Advisory at SAP. His mission is to ensure that SAP cloud customers are able to effectively use learning and approaches to learning as a driver for user adoption and long-term, sustainable business success. We reflect on this new Learning Advisory offering from the customer success organization – a model that can provide benefit for any company. Antonia Zorn and Andi Michaels give you great insights into a learning initiative at SAP called "Innovator Challenge". Participants work in teams on innovative ideas but the goal is not mainly to create new products or services, the goal ist to learn and to build an innovative and creative mindset in a team. It all started back in 2016 when IoT was a big topic with quite some learning needs. Antonia had the idea to make learning a bit more fun, more teamwork and a bit more of a competitive challenge. It started with 35 participants and today it's a global program focussing on many topics and a large number of participants. The key to success seems to be the great learning experience Antonia, Andi and team create together with the learners. Just listen!

AFRIKA KOMMT! is a quality education program for Young Professionals from Africa, which provides future leaders the opportunity to come to Germany, develop international management skills and work in a partner company like SAP, BOSCH or B. Melsungen for eight months. Thomas interviews Ilka Wiskemann, the SAP project lead for AFRIKA KOMMT! on the details of this One-Year Program. The main focus, besides a German Language Course and an International Management Training in cooperation with the GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), is concrete work experience, taking over responsibility and collaboration through working for SAP within a scope of 8 months. Faith Mwema and Taiwo Ladipo as current "AFRIKA KOMMT!" fellows tell their experiences and also what they have learned from the German culture.
