I've been interviewed now on 2 podcasts, wrote an article and yesterday 7/16/2023, I was at a local festival promoting my Tuscan Wine Tastings. So much fun stuff!!

This episode talks about one of my favorite, small, quaint little piazza's in Florence. Have you ever been to Piazza della Passera? I'll tell the story of the history of this rather alluring piazza.

This week I wanted to dive back into the legends and stories of Florence. These stories come from a book called Strolling Through Florence by Franco Ciarleglio. It's my most favorite book because these stories are so incredible. They are a crowd pleaser too. If you want to learn more about Florence, these types of stories tell us what life was like during Dante's lifetime.

I hope you enjoy it! :)

Well what do you know, we are talking about Italian food again. :) Giulia and I discuss what it was like growing with Italian grandparents and how they taught us about food. Food is so important for Italians. It is something to share, to explain culture and of course to enjoy. It's so evident why the mediterranean diet is the most popular way to eat all over the world. Pasta is a dish I could never live without. What about you?

What's your favorite Italian dish?

We dove deep into the wine doors spread all over Florence & Tuscany. These doors have been around for 5 centuries. And during the recent pandemic they re-opened for wine & food service. Owned by most of the noble, wealthy families of Florence, these buchette were popular by all people. Wine was drunk by all classes. Given to the sick, in moderation and mothers of newborns. Even today it is said to improve the blood. “Fa buon sangue”. Vintners, traders, and sellers were official suppliers, who had their own guild since 1288. The guild - the arte dei Vinattieri- was open not only to innkeepers and taverners, but also to anyone who sold wine for most of the year or just for one season. So many amazing stories about these very unique little doors. I hope to take my clients on a tour of them during one of my retreats in Florence. :) Hope you enjoy it!

Cantina La Frasca is the first vineyard I've visited outside of the Chianti. This is also the furthest south I've visited a vineyard. I was welcomed by Matteo on our first visit, last June, with a smile. Our tour of the vineyard seemed more than an hour because we talked and talked and talked about all the amazing traditions his family created because of this vineyard. A very small vineyard, they have a wine bar in the center of Cetona where locals and tourist alike visit. We were treated like family when we visited. I got to meet and speak with his mom and dad. The best part was seeing how happy his mom was when she presented the cheese, meats and bread. I can tell how much the family enjoys their work. It comes from within, from their heart.

Castelfalfi is a resort town. If you are looking for a morning visit to a historic borgo on a hill, Castelfalfi is the place. Monteriggioni was one of Stefano and I's first stop on one of our week long vacations in Tuscany. I had never heard of this town and was glad we spent the morning here back in 2012. This castle was a lookout for the Sienese army while Florence and Siena were battling over land and cities. I plan on taking my clients here just to see what it looks like on top of the wall. You can so so far over the Tuscan Hills. The history is amazing as well. Enjoy!

This episode highlights Altiero Winery in Greve in Chianti. This vineyard is a newer one for me, because my first visit was in September 2021 with Chelsea. I've talked a lot about Paolo and how passionate he is about his wine. And I love everything about this place and Paolo.

Altiero is in my new Tuscan Wine Club launching this January. For more information go to Tuscan Wine Club on Truly Italy.

I'm still on a high from my retreat. I've been debriefing and thinking hard on how I want my next retreats to be and convey. I got great feedback from my guests and enjoyed getting their feedback being first time Italy travelers. More news coming on what each new retreat will include.

Also Giulia has been the best gift this year thus far. I haven't seen here in 10 years and she made the trip down to Florence to meet me during my retreat this September. We have been talking for the past 3 months on how we can collaborate together. Can't wait to share what we come up with!!

I'm back from another trip to Tuscany. Our first retreat was a HUGE success! I got great feedback and visited towns I haven't been to in 20 years. It was great looking at Italy through the eyes of a first time traveler to Italy. More good stuff is coming. Be on the lookout for an email with all of the details for our upcoming retreats!

This is usually not a phrase I like to say about Italy.  But be aware of what could happen on your travels to Italy. I talk about staying away from gypsies at all costs. Tourist trap restaurants are the worst. Traveling in August, you could easily die of heat exhaustion. I hope this episode is informative for you before and during your travel in Italy.

Thank you for listening to my grieving episode today. My dear Nana passed away on Monday September 12th. I've been having ups and downs all week. Grief is hard. I don't like talking about it. I just like to cry it out. Like many of us do. I'll be in Italy soon. 4 more days. I can't wait to be back and breathe the Tuscan air!

I've been hinting about this story for a few episodes now, so here it is. Brunelleschi's Dome is a masterpiece sitting in the city center of gorgeous Florence. The construction was the innovation of Filippo Brunelleschi. Never has this masterpiece been replicated. It is a sight, needless to say. It takes my breath away every time I see it pop into view around the corner. A smaller replica of the dome is located in the now non-existent city of Semifonte. It was once a fortified city between Florence and Siena. The city was wiped off the face of the earth during a siege in 1202. Interesting story, magical place to visit because all that is left is the small chapel an eighth of the size of Brunelleschi's dome. I love all these hidden historical stories in Italy. It's an ancient land with rich history.

I had an identity crisis when I first moved to Florence. I didn't want to be seen as an American. I wanted to be known as an Italian. I still struggle with this. When you decide to travel or live like a local, you have to consider many things from your why, your privilege, being uncomfortable, observe the locals, be curious and get off the beaten path. First things you can visit the famous landmarks and still be authentic. Traveling like a local has to come from a place of openness, curiosity and connection. How do you like to travel?

Traveling in small groups is becoming the norm in Italy. It's easier to find a table and enter a museum. If you are planning an upcoming trip to Italy, remember smaller is better.

I first visited Siena in 2002, exactly 20 years ago. I went from memory of places we visited on our guided tour of Siena. One of the things I thought was fascinating was that Siena is home to the oldest bank in the world, Monte dei Paschi di Siena. I remember feeling so honored when I got one of my first bank account in Florence from this bank. What a history! The Duomo of Siena is quite spectacular. I remember being speechless when I first saw it. I also discuss the importance of the Palio and how you'll never see me in Piazza del Campo. St. Catherine of Siena is their own Patron saint. There is a church and home dedicated to her and her life that you can visit. I can't wait to visit this important city of Tuscany, even if they beat Florence back in the 12th century. Listen for that story. :)

San Gimignano is one of the cities I visited when I studied abroad. I remember visiting the Museum of Torture and not having lunch. I mistakenly went there first and lost my appetite quickly. There's so much to explore in this medieval town. There used to be 76 towers and now there are 13. Crazy to imagine, right. But I'm sure the view of this town from afar in the 1300s was a sight. In this episode, I talk about some landmarks to visit and so much more.

If you are looking for a day trip on your Tuscany trip, San Gimignano should be on it.

A little about myself episode. I create retreats, help with trip planning and host events online(when able). I'm happy and proud to be 41 years old. I know that I still have time even if it seems like time flies by. My two favorite quotes that have help me stay the course and enjoy the ride. Hope you stay the course as well. You still have time. It won't miss you. :)

All about wine on this episode. We talk about Altiero winery in Greve where Paolo speaks about his passion for his vines. I truly encourage all to visit him and his family for a tasting. It is well worth it. Villa Calcinaia is another vineyard in Greve and it has a rich history. I hope to meet the winemaker someday, his ancestors were a famous Florentine family, Capponi.

Hope you enjoy this episode!! :)

Also I address the horrible crisis happening in Ukraine. I'm saddened by this terrible event that is taking place. If you are looking for someplace to donate money to help the Ukrainian effort here are a few links:

Back from our trip back to Italy to say goodbye to my father in law, I've learned a lot of new things about myself and others. I still can't believe it's been a month since his passing. Still can't believe it. Anyways, these last two weeks were hard and also needed. I can't believe it is almost 2022. Feels like yesterday I recorded my first episode on Florence & Me. I list all the experiences I went through this past year. I hope these lessons help those of you who might be struggling with the end of another hard year.

I've had a huge pull to move back to Italy these past months. After visiting Tuscany twice this year, I feel that I need to return. Obviously, not tomorrow or next year, but I hope to return before retiring. When you have a strong feeling that you belong somewhere else, why wait? I'm picturing my home in Tuscany, it's being loved right now. I can't wait to move back.

My great-grandpa wrote a diary towards the end of his life that recounts his time in WWII and being captured. He depicts the struggles of life after the war and the desire to make my nonna(bisnonna) happy. He had a yearn to return to live in Italy too. But never did. I feel his presence around me these days.

I have a feeling I'm being guided to live the life he wanted to live and never got the chance. Italy is my destiny. Stay tuned :)

I've been trying to find a way to play with my inner child. I've also tried to find something else to try for fun. I'm focusing on my creative side. Have you ever thought about starting something new? Only for yourself.

One of the reasons I started Truly Italy tours is because it was something new and something fun. For both my clients and myself. Because Italy is my playground. Italy is also where I feel most at home.

So for the new year maybe try to pick up something new for YOURSELF. Not for competition, not to show other on social media, just for you.

This episode is about my most recent trip to Italy. Second trip in one year. Incredibly lucky!! I discuss my first experience(after 10 years) of traveling alone in my beloved country. It was uplifting, less stressful, and incredibly useful for my growth. I missed it. I missed taking my own advice and following my gut. I met amazing people who have added to this journey of mine. I learned a lot for my most recent guest, Chelsea. I had an amazing time! I got more contacts for my first Tuscany Travel Retreat coming up in June 2022. So excited! I get emotional once again. My first trip back to my church, my haven, my sacred space, Santi Apostoli, since 2017 was my most favorite moment. Get ready to hear Katie's ugly cry. haha :)

I hope you enjoy this episode. It's my favorite one yet. <3

We discuss the covid precautions we've taken(to be vaccinated) and also the locator form you need to enter Italy. There are covid tests that need to be taken as well. I recommend getting a pen and paper to write down some of the information you'll need when traveling to Italy this fall. Thanks to COVID.

Today I'm talking about why I chose Camporsevoli for my first travel experience for Truly Italy. This place has a grand history and a long history with me. I was once the nanny for the family that lives there. Now it is a Hamlet full of modern style with a rustic feel apartments and villas. We'll be staying here next June (4th-11th) 2022. I have 7 spots left where you can immerse yourself in Italian culture with a glass of red in hand and plate of pasta.

Our week in Tuscany went by in a flash. We indulged in food, wine, family and friends. It was one of the best weeks of this year. Stefano and I enjoyed our time driving around Tuscany meeting up with friends and family as well as visiting new places for Truly Italy. Our upcoming travel experiences are going to be epic. Authentic and engaging. I cannot wait to share.

This episode gets a bit emotional. I know, I've cried on this podcast a lot, and ya know what? That's who I am. I'm emotional and I feel everything. Pasquale hit me with some knowledge and some truth. Simone gave me perspective on life. Ale & Adry showed me that love and friendship when it is real, never changes. Matteo showed me kindness and assistance when it came to travel information for my upcoming trip. Honestly, all of our friends gave us something and filled our soul with love and appreciation for the people in our lives.

I said it before and I'll say it again... Life is short. Live it to the fullest.

Enjoy this emotional episode.

Ciao ragazzi! It's been awhile since I posted a new episode. Amazing things have happened these past few weeks. Stefano and I will be heading back to the homeland at the end of July and I took a big step into my business. I booked another trip to Tuscany in September. I'll be joining Chelsea's retreat for a week and then we'll be criss crossing the Chianti hills researching new and amazing places to take clients, like you, to experience Italy.

I'm so excited for what's to come this year. SO many GREAT things!

I'm offering a new service in my travel business. Listen in and hear what it is. :)

Chelsea from @wanderfulretreats is back! Post Covid, you'll need to be more creative when you travel through Italy. It's recommended to visit smaller towns instead of just the big cities. The big cities are important, you can pass through them or stay in them, but I encourage you to venture off the beaten path to these smaller, quaint and idyllic towns.

We created 10 day itinerary of Tuscany for this episode. Chelsea went the route of changing scenery every two days, instead I wanted my homebase to be Florence. Of course! :)

Here's Chelsea's list of cities to visit: Day 1: Rome, Day 2: Viterbo, Day 3: Orvieto, Day 4: Day 5 & 6: Spello(for 2 nights, day trip to Assisi), Day 7 & 8: Castiglion Fiorentino (stay 2 nights, day trip to Cortona), Day 9: Lucca(stay 2 nights, bike into countryside or Garfagnana/Ponte del Diavolo), Day 10: Travel back to Rome to depart.

Katie's list of cities to visit: Florence (your home base), Day 1: explore the city from your hotel and rest, Day 2: walk or take Bus 13 to Piazzale Michelangelo, Day 3: Visit Santa Croce Church and walking tour, Day 4:Visit Fiesole, take bus 7 (20 min bus ride)from Piazza San Marco, walk around the city, go up to San Francesco church and see Florence from afar, Day 5: Day trip to Pisa (1 hour by train), eat lunch there and take an afternoon train back to Florence, Day 6: Day trip to Lucca (1hr 20 min by train), Day 7: Day trip to Siena(90 min train ride), Day 8: Visit some other landmarks, churches, piazze in Florence, head to Mercato Centrale for lunch or dinner or both, Day 9: Day trip to Assisi (2.5 hour train ride), Day 10: Take it easy and enjoy your last day in Bella Firenze.

After a week away, I'm ready to speak about our own abundance. While I was away I noticed how much I missed simple in my meals. I refer back to living in Italy when my choices were a lot less complicated. A plate of pasta, pizza or an aperitivo, so simple. I explain my intention of Truly Italy's Travel Experiences have inspired me to be in the present moment. Each day is a gift, a miracle so why not be present with it? Italy is a great place to immerse yourself into your surroundings, your food, and yourself. I hope you join me on a Travel Experience in the future. Our first one is June 4-11 2022 in Cetona at Camporsevoli. Check out trulyitaly.tours for more information. Ciao Ciao!

Fiesole is where I studied in 2002. This is where I learned how to say my first Italian phrase. This is where I tried my first Italian wine. Fiesole is where it all started. My love affair with Italy. This episode I'll talk about the special places in Fiesole that brings me back to presence. The restaurants have changed owners but I'll discuss the memories I have with them. Let it be a first date, a festa or just simply a delicious pizza. I get emotional again, surprise! I hope you enjoy this episode!

I'm reminded how much I've learned living abroad. I bring back how much I miss riding my gorgeous yellow bike. It was my car. From kissing friends 'hello' and 'goodbye' to saying "buongiorno' and 'grazie' when I left a store. These things were a part of my daily life in Florence. I remember back to when I didn't have a smartphone and also taking my time when I went from one place to another. There was never a rush, unless a store was about to close.  ha! Pasquale, Luca and Leo and all the amazing friends that taught me how to be present, thank you! Enjoy this episode!

This episode starts with my introduction to the number and its meaning. It's amazing how much the number 8 came into my life. Stefano and I meet in this episode. Our story is my favorite, I know I'm bias. I explain how I was able to stand in my truth with what I wanted in a relationship. Stefano was open and willing to keep communication open. That was so important. I honored my feelings and expressed my thoughts with boldness. Women who are dating right now and are afraid to be themselves, listen to this episode. I embraced the fact that we might not be right for each other and I always thought of him fondly after each date before we become exclusive. Because you never know what might happen. The moral of the story is to BE YOURSELF! EVERY DAMN DAY!

Santi Apostoli has been in my heart since 2002. Thanks to Vera, I've grown up in this church. It has been my holy space, my safe space, my grounding space. I love the energy it gives off and how it makes me feel when I light one of its candles. Here's the story of my favorite church Santi Apostoli. Enjoy amici miei! :)

When I started teaching English, I wasn't prepared at all. I did the best I could to teach it. My job paid little so to make a lot, I had to work soooooo much. I rode my bike all over Florence to make enough money to pay rent, utilities and my glasses of red. :) It was a great lesson, because I learned how to manage my money really well. I met a lot of Fiorentini(Florentines) while teaching but when I met Alessandro and his friends, I knew it would be a great change of scenery. I learned so much from him and his friends. From the risks I took to be in their country, to the risks they took befriending an Americana, we learned so much about each other's culture and I how to be Florentine.  Dialect and all. So much fun revisiting this with you! Probably cried again in this episode too. haha! :)

Taking a pause on my story with another story. The Story of Orsanmichele. This church dates back to the 9th century and it has an amazing legend attached to it. This is the first of many church episodes, not tied to religion, but the history and stories attached to them. Those are my favorite: history that makes a great story to tell. I hope you enjoy this one!

This episode is about my first job in Florence, thanks to Marco. My struggles the first few months with not being paid and how to manage the little savings I had. I learned how to suck it up and just keep going even when I wanted to to give up. I share the steps on how I got my codice fiscale, first bank account and finally getting my ID card. It's so important not to let go of your dream. The steps of becoming a British citizen then an Italian resident came so easily because my heart was in it for the long haul. It shows how passion and determination helps you get what you truly desire. I hope this inspires you to take the leap into your passion.

In this episode, I share how I went from worrying when and if I could live in Florence legally to getting British citizenship within 3 months. It was like the universe was just guiding me to the next step. It was so simple. From there each time I headed back to Florence I had a better idea on how I was going to stay. For good. Side note: there are a couple corrections because my flow of speech is quite quick. I'm so excited to relive my story with you. Hope you enjoy this episode!

After college, I couldn't stop thinking about Florence and how I could get back there. I worked different jobs and then I took the leap. In the summer of 2005, I moved back to Florence for 3 months. My goal was to learn Italian better, oh did I! I met amazing friends and learned more lessons along the way. Here's where my love of living permanently in Florence began to grow.

In my first episode, I share my firsts when I studied abroad. My first glass of wine, my first Italian sentence, very important one I might add. I recall my favorite teachers and how much I miss those days without smartphones. Study abroad is something everyone should do. I don't care where just do it! I remember getting lost in my beloved Florence and how I memorized the names of the little streets.
