What an honor to visit with 3 Rotary Peace Fellows. Committee Chair and Rotary Legend, Chuck Udell, was able to round up our guest Peace Fellows, Summer Lewis, her sister Katrina Lewis, and Jennifer Montgomery, to the Ad Astra Cast studios to talk about their experiences and the Peace Fellow program. There's also a cameo appearance by the iconic Bill Richter!
We had a unique opportunity to visit with fellow Rotarians from Haiti, Dieulin and Romel. Dieulin is a past District Governor from Cap-Hailen. Romel is a past President of his club in Haiti but now lives in Lenexa, Kansas. District 5710 past governor, Vern Henricks, joins us as a co-host in this episode as we explore how Rotary serves its community in a difficult national environment.

Rotary International selected Jennifer Montgomery as a 2021 Peace Fellow. Montgomery, who was chosen from a pool of global candidates, has taken part in the Professional Certificate program at Makerere University in Uganda. In this episode of Rotary Talk 5710, Jennifer tells us about her efforts in working with women who have fallen victim to human trafficking, not only in Uganda but through her work in the Kansas Attorney General's office. This interview took place at the District convention in September.

Patti Mellard is the Chair of the Rotary Against Human Trafficking Foundation. Recently, the Foundation was awarded a $25,000 grant from State Farm. These monies will be used to help women that are leaving incarceration and who are vulnerable to trafficking.

Jim Arnett of the Leawood Rotary Club, is also District 5710's Polio Chair. He's worked tirelessly to promote Rotary's Polio efforts throughout the District and beyond. Today on Rotary Talk 5710, Jim tells about his inspiration for his work against polio and about his wife, Mary Ann, who contracted polio as a child. Jim is a Paul Harris Fellow +8, a former rocket scientist (literally), and has been recognized nationally with Rotary International's "Service Above Self" award. April is Maternal and Child Health Month in Rotary. In this episode, we visit with Manhattan Rotarian, Christina Nolte, who describes the creation of "clean birthing kits" that ensure a mother has the essentials necessary to give a newly-born baby a healthier start. These kits are then sent to countries around the world.
