What's up Sunday is a student led podcast recapping Sunday's Lesson. Going through scripture AND the lessons in that scripture that apply to everyday life.

In a world obsessed with polishing the outer skin, God wants to develop your inner core. This week we took a look at the fruit of the arara tree, which isn't all you may think it'd be based on its outer appearance. Have you found yourself tired from living for the hollowness of approval and laboring away at your "image?" God's core was revealed on the cross--one full of grace, love, strength and sacrifice, and He invites us to experience more life as He transforms our hearts and our minds. Today, Pastor Ryan Ventura brought our awareness to the reality that fear kills dreams. In today's episode of, "What's up, Sunday?" Josh, Wilson, Sky and Belle reflect on their own fears and how Jesus invites us to trust Him and to take one step closer to Him when we do experience fear. Take heart! Is it really possible to follow Jesus in the modern world? After our time on Sunday reading and reflecting together, we would answer with a resounding "HEAVEN YES!" This was the final week in our "Ask Me Anything" series. We have Kaylie, Katherine, Wilson and Josh on the mic fleshing out the big idea that we were literally made to follow Jesus and to do it together. It was refreshing to find that being a disciple and making disciples doesn't have to look wildly different all these years later. The first disciples had the right idea (and were the same sinners we are today). Happy listening!

This past Sunday we talked about how important it is to connect deeply with the body of Christ by joining a local church. While there isn’t a verse that says “you must join a church” in those exact words, the Bible has a lot to say about being in committed relationships with other Christians. So, why should you join a church?
A big problem with using “follow your passion” as a guiding light is that our passions can often lead us to bad places. For example, following passions is often at odds with commitment. It implies that, if you are not in love with and passionate about your job, you should change careers, change relationships, and ignore commitment.
Adulting can be a pain but it's something we all have to do! The question is where do we find truth when it comes to growing up into the person we were designed to be?
Jesus arrived on earth as a newborn baby. As we study His life in the Bible, we see Him referred to by many names: One of those names is 'Christ', During the Christmas season we focus on the Child, knowing that the Man -- in whatever way we describe Him -- will one day save us all.
When I say conflict resolution, what things/people come to mind? We generally regard peacemaking as righteous, but the bible shows us that not all peacemakers have the best intentions.
It may be scary but in a few years statistically speaking YOU are likely going to get married! So what does the Bible say about marriage? Do we need to be intentional about our relationships now?
Everybody has been frustrated with their family at one point or another. In this episode we talk about how the Bible shows us how we build a relationship with our family despite less than perfect circumstances.
The Holy Spirit is a mystery to many people, partly because we don't really understand the simple concept of a spirit. So let's start with a basic definition: a spirit is a being without a body. Our main approach to understanding the Holy Spirit and his work will be to explore key passages of Scripture and then draw conclusions based on what we read. I'm also more interested in practical application of what we learn of the Spirit, than in some kind of academic, arms-length understanding. Knowing God personally is infinitely more valuable than merely knowing about God.
The word lost comes from the Old Norse word 'los', which means the disbanding of an army in order to retreat. Lost doesn't necessarily mean physically stranded, it also means emotionally confused. When we disband from God's army, we try and face depression, anxiety, stress, and sickness by ourselves. Humans aren't designed to do that. The invitation to not be lost is right in front of you; all you have to do is take it. If you are lost to God you are still worth pursuing.
Sin is a reality faced by all—the cost of life on earth. It mars everything. Sin is present in school days and weekends, in family lives, in public policy, and in private thoughts. Even our good deeds often have sinful motivations. We cannot understand what we will not name, and we cannot confront it unless we name it rightly.
Today’s word is 'Blessings'. Which if you ever been on any social media platform that word has taken a life of its own. The way some talk or promote the word blessings it was asserted that obedient believers of God will somehow be rewarded in wealth and health while managing to have the perfect filter. In some ways, how we often use the term ‘blessings’ isn’t far from the way some ancient Jews did. One glaring difference is the ancient Jewish understanding of the word is it was rooted in ‘humility’ while for us it’s more of a ‘humble brag’. Joy comes from the Lord. It is a perpetual gladness of the heart that comes from knowing, experiencing, and trusting Jesus. Happiness doesn't bring joy, and joy isn't the byproduct of happiness. Join us as we do a deep dive into the word 'Joy'
Prayer is more than just magic words or feelings. It's communicating with God that you trust his promises even when you feel your worst. Sometimes it can be awkward to pray so the T.A.C.O format could be a helpful way to talk with God.
In the Western world, religious and moral terms have significantly declined over the course of the twentieth century. One study in a psychology journal analyzed fifty terms associated with Christian virtue using Google Ngram data. They discovered a whopping 74 percent were used less frequently over the course of the last century. Spiritual language is important and we must learn how to speak it from scratch. A good first word to know is 'God'.
