On this episode I have a conversation with Chris Calvin. Chris received his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and his master’s in Education from California State, University Fresno. He is a member of the historically black fraternity Phi Beta Sigma, where he was also elected as an executive board member in 2009. Chris holds several accolades as a coach in both football, and track and field. In 2018, he was named California state coach of the year for track and field. The following year he was also a part of the coaching staff which earned a high school national championship! Chris Calvin began his trading journey within the Trade and Travel program in June of 2020. Without any knowledge of the stock market, he took the leap of faith by purchasing the full course and begin his journey as an active investor. During this time, he decided to quit his supplemental job with Amazon, study the curriculum, and begin trading as an active investor. Chris started his portfolio with $500 and in an 8-month time frame grew it exponentially solely using the Invest with Teri Strategy!

Dianne explains how families in Hennepin and Ramsey counties (MN) can qualify for early learning scholarships, and how earning a living wage affects children’s educational and academic foundation. Dianne and I discuss navigating a career in a non-profit, how nonprofits are funded and the marketable skills it takes for advancement in a non-profit. Dianne and I also discuss her new podcast which in light of George Floyd’s murder offers resources on how to talk to small kids about race.

I speak to James Henderson, an HBCU graduate of Morgan State who wanted his son to consider HBCUs as well as Ivy League schools. As a result, James created college tours so that all African-American students could see the benefits of both sets of institutions. James and I discuss his passion for wanting kids to know all of their options, and his desire that they receive business creation and financial literacy education.
The MTM foundation also provides college prep courses along with SAT and ACT classes. Statistically African American students still score lower on SAT and ACT test as compared to their white counterparts. James and his MTM foundation are helping to close that gap.
The MTM Foundation sponsors college tours that allow aspiring college students to visit college campuses and receive an introduction to college life.

I speak to Garrett McQueen, a classically trained musician and discuss his efforts to decolonize the word classical as it relates to music.
Garrett shares his background and his vision for musical instruction and programming that includes all the cultures present in a community. We explore how race informs the composition of orchestral music, how it plays a part in how media playlists are created as well as how it informs who the musicians are and the audiences who listen. Garrett shares how he has had to be mindful of his spending and hold down multiple side gigs at times to supplement himself financially. Garrett also offers inspiration and encouragement to pursue our visions and dreams and affirms us in that process.

There are many wellness deserts in the United States - the lack of resources and programming for your well being. Mental health resources, exercise, food, so much for your wellness is missing.
I speak with Sierra Carter who in 2018 founded The Zen Bin, simply because she wanted to create something she could be a part of. Sierra shares how those who are in survival mode typically are also in financial crisis. Sierra explains why affirmations are an integral part of the Zen Bin curriculum, and she offers her vision on how the Zen Bin functions to eliminate wellness deserts.
