Tenets #10-11 & Rules of Conduct | Series on What We Believe and Teach

Teacher: Pastor Joseph Ola

Preached on 9 November 2023

Tenets 10 & 11:

    1. The possibility of falling from Grace. (Rom 11:20-22; Col. 1:21-23; Heb 6:4-6; 10:26-29; 38-39: 2 Pet. 2:20-22).
    1. The Obligatory nature of Tithes and Offerings. (Gen. 14;20; 28:22; Prov. 3:9-10; Mai. 3:10; I Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 9:6-7; Heb 7:1-10).

Rules of Conduct

  1. Never come to the House of Cod without praying before coming (Matt 6:6, 7; Eph 6:18).
  2. Be in your seat at the commencement of the service. You will thus be a good example to those that are late and neglectful (Gen 22:5; Psa. 108:2; Prov. 8:17).
  3. Bring your children with you to the House of God, relatives, servants also have souls. It is your duty and privilege to take care of them (Gen 18:19; Ex. 20:10; Matt. 11:4; John 1:41, 45; Act. 10:24).
  4. Make the pastor your personal friend. His sympathy, support and counsel are needed by you, constantly pray for him (Joel 2:17; Mal. 2:7; Rom 15:30; 2Cor. 1:11; Eph. 6:19; 1 Thess. 2; 7; Heb 13:17).
  5. Make the church your spiritual home (Psa. 133:1; Acts 2:46, 47).
  6. When conserving on heart, never speak disrespect or criticisingly of God’s servant, or the ministrations. In the presence of your children if you sow to the wind, you may expect to reap the whirl wind (Pro. 22:8; Hos. 8:7; Gal. 6:7).
  7. Take your Bible with you to the House of the Lord (Psa. 1:2; 119:16, 72; Rom. 15:4; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17).
  8. Enter reverently: pray fervently; listen attentively; give praise from a grateful heart, and worship God in the beauty of his Holiness (Psa. 118:27-29; Eccles. 5:1; Rom. 12:11; James 1:19).

“Enter his gate with thanksgiving, and into His court with praise; be thanks unto Him and bless His Name” (Psa 100:4)

  • Comparison can make you insecure.
  • Comparison can deepen your IGNORANCE concerning your UNIQUE calling.
  • Prioritise FAITHFULNESS over SUCCESS.
  • Prioritise DIVINE TIMING over SPEED.
  • Prioritise FULFILMENT over MONEY.
  • Prioritise PROGRESS over PERFECTION.

Preached on 31st October 2021

Synopsis: Exactly 504 years ago, on 31 October 1517, Martin Luther did an ordinary thing that gave birth to an extraordinary reformation that has totally reshaped the course of Christian history ever since. He sparked a debate that led to what church looks like today. In 1521 (500 years ago), he faced the most gigantic forces in the then known world (the Emperor and Bishops of the Roman Catholic church) and took a stand that led to his excommunication from the church. We see a similitude in how Luther faced these GIANTS in his battle for the top and how David faced his GIANT (Goliath) in his own battle for the top. What can their stories teach us?

Lessons from Martin Luther and David

  • When ordinary and imperfect men display extraordinary courage because of their unwavering belief in an extraordinary God, extraordinary victory happens and takes them to THE TOP!
  • Little is much . . . when God is in it!
  • You win the battle to the top by focusing on your God and not on the giants in your way.
