In his debut novel, The Undertaking of Billy Buffone, David Giuliano paints a vivid picture of a tight-knit Northern Ontario community filled with deep love and dark secrets. As the community’s new preacher, Catherine, settles into Twenty Six Mile House, she befriends the local undertaker, Billy Buffone, and discovers the many deep connections that bind together - and tear apart - the people of this small town.

In our interview, Giuliano discusses his techniques for crafting rich descriptive landscapes and how he managed to balance heartbreak and joy when writing characters that have trauma as part of their history.
