Just as holistic medicine takes a β€œbig picture” view of physical health as a dynamic interconnection of our body’s systems, holistic stewardship helps us see and appreciate all our gifts in relationshipto one another. For example, how does your stewardship of time interact with your stewardship of your relationships or health? How might more thoughtful stewardship of your time improve your relationships or health? How might better stewardship of your time, relationships and health improve your financial abundance?

In this present age of information and technology, we have plenty of head knowledge at our fingertips. But true knowledge – what the Bible calls Wisdomβ€”is all too scarce. Wisdom means far more than knowing a lot. It requires a basic mindset that affects every aspect of life. No matter what is happening in the world around us, God’s comfort is always near. When faced with troubled times, we all have two choices: listen to what the world says to do, or see what God has to say and follow His lead. He doesn’t leave His children to fend for themselvesβ€”His Word is full of guidance, encouragement, hope, and life!

Do you know about the importance or value of self-care?

Self-care motivates us to maintain a healthy relationship with ourselves so that we have the health and energy to be good to others too. We cannot give to others if we do not have to give anything ourselves. Self-care is not selfish, but necessary. Psychology is all around us, and it is present in everything that we do. What do you think it says when you take care of yourself, and when you nurture yourself? What does it say to yourself, and what does it say to others?

In this episode, we talk about the psychology of nurturing the self and discuss the building blocks of nurturing yourself. We will also explore the concept of β€œHygge” (a calm, comfortable time with people you love. A complete absence of frustration, or anything emotionally overwhelming, often enjoyed with good food and drinks, warm blankets and candlelight.

According to legend, Thomas Edison made thousands of prototypes of the incandescent light bulb before he finally got it right. And, since the prolific inventor was awarded more than 1,000 patents, it’s easy to imagine him failing on a daily basis in his lab at Menlo Park.

In spite of struggling with β€œfailure” throughout his entire working life, Edison never let it get the best of him. All of these β€œfailures”, which are reported to be in the tens of thousands, simply showed him how not to invent something. His resilience gave the world some of the most amazing inventions of the early 20th century, such as the phonograph, the telegraph, and the motion picture.

It’s hard to imagine what our world would be like if Edison had given up after his first few failures. His inspiring story forces us to look at our lives- do we have the resilience that we need to overcome our challenges? Or do we let our failures derail our dreams? And what could we accomplish if we had the strength not to give up?

In this episode, we’ll examine resilience and cognitive restructuring, so that we have the strength and fortitude to overcome adversity, and to keep on moving forward towards our dreams and our goals.

Practical episode outcomes: connect neuroplasticity and resilience while utilizing cognitive restructuring to build resilience

Emotional experiences stick with people, last longer in their memories, and are easier to recall. And extensive neuroscience research in recent decades makes clear that emotions are essential in our reasoning process: Strong emotions can pull us off course, but in general, emotions support better decision making. So, while you’ll want to avoid triggering a threat response, don’t try to remove all emotion from your relating.

That can diminish the impact of your presence and lead to a cycle of ineffective behavior. Instead, aim for a balance: express just enough emotion to engage the other person but not so much that you provoke a hostile or defensive reaction, shut down the conversation, or damage the relationship.

Of course, we may not know how another person will respond to our emotions, and when we are in the grip of strong feelings, it’s hard to calibrate how we express them in conversation.

The solution is to practice. By having more aware and mindful conversations, we learn not only how specific individuals respond to us, but also how we express our emotions in helpful and unhelpful ways.

Practical episode outcomes: Learn skills to manage emotions constructively, and learn how to use your emotions constructively

"You need to wake up from autopilot mode. You have to live deeply and with more awareness so that you can be attentive to each moment."- Thich Nhat Hanh

In my previous episodes, we spend a lot of time talking about being present, being mindfully self-aware, recognizing our habitual patterns, and providing opportunities for delving in to connect with our deeper selves. The underlying idea behind having present moment awareness and living outside of autopilot is summed up beautifully with this quote: β€œDon’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life.”- Robin Sharma (Author of the 5 am club).

Practical episode outcomes: recognize the benefits and barriers of autopilot, have an understanding of conscious manifestation and learn all about living your life to the full. An added bonus is a self-reflective exercise.

Mindfulness teaches us how to deal with life’s challenges in a calmer manner. It is not the answer to all of life’s problems but rather it allows us to see our problems more clearly, be in touch with our body and be able to respond in a discerning way rather than reacting with high emotion. It is a particular way of paying attention and looking deeply into oneself. It teaches us how to let go of thoughts and emotions that don’t serve us. This episode will focus on understanding the concept of mindfulness, help you recognize the importance of self-reflection and introduce you to two mindfulness practice.

Self-management is synonymous with maturity, and maturity is born of responsibility. You cannot be mentally or emotionally healthy and resilient if you are not responsible. People with maturity understand a great truth, they understand that life can be difficult. In being able to accept this fact about life, mature people learn to handle life in all of its difficulties, not expecting it to be different. They have learned to accept that not everything in life is going to be their way, show up the way they thought it would, and nor will the world change on its axis to make them happier. Mature people know for any change to happen it has to come from within themselves, and this is where success or failure develops. The only way to live a more fulfilling, successful, and purpose-driven life is when the choice is made to fully develop and live the attitudes and principles of a matured person.

Self-management or self-regulation can be defined as the ability to manage one’s actions, thoughts, and feelings in flexible ways to get the desired results. Optimal self-regulation contributes to a sense of well-being, a sense of self-efficacy or confidence, and a sense of connectedness to others.

In this episode, we cover the big topic of maturity as we unpack the concepts of self-management.

With regards to maturing through self-management, I want to introduce you to a challenge placed by Aristotle in β€˜The Nicomachean Ethics’ that he wrote. It goes as such:

β€˜Anyone can become angry- that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right wayβ€”this is not easy’…

I trust this episode will take you another step closer to profound awareness and fuller potential! Listen.

Practical episode outcome: develop self-management, understand boundaries and understand assertiveness.

Have you been searching for a new exercise workout or fitness routine to begin or explore? Well, search no more. Have you heard of Pilates? Pilates was first started in the 20th century, by a man called Joseph Pilates. This form of exercise was called Contrology. Pilates is a full-body workout that incorporates the use of springs and bodyweight exercises to emphasize the control of the core, and proper breathing while ensuring correct spinal and pelvic alignment. Pilates is designed to develop and strengthen stabilizer muscles that all support the skeletal system, specifically the spine, which we can only imagine ultimately improves posture.

In Pilates, your pelvis is referred to as your powerhouse. Pilates teaches you to use your powerhouse when you are taking part in daily activities. The muscles are found in your pelvic floor up to the muscles under your rib cage.

Pilates is typically used along with other methods of exercise. Pilates can be used as the base of any training or sport. The best thing about Pilates is that it can be customized to suit any individual regardless of their needs and fitness levels.

Practical episode outcome: Understand and perform the Pilates breathing method.

The ability to motivate yourself is an important skill to have in life. Self-motivation drives us to keep going even in the face of setbacks, to take up opportunities, and to show commitment to what we want to achieve. Self-motivation is in its simplest form, the force that drives us to do things. This topic of self-motivation, however, is far from simple. We can be motivated by many things, both internal and external, such as the desire to do something, to love someone, or the need for money. And usually, motivation is a result of several factors. Listen.

Challenge: Creating a motivation board that includes all your goals, aspirations, and dreams can also be an effective form of motivation. Some call it a vision board, and it is basically a visual incentive that can help you to find excitement and enthusiasm through pictures of what you want, making it harder to ignore than words. It should be placed somewhere where you can see it every day because out of sight is out of mind. Other visual aids such as drawing, video recordings, and viewing images of others accomplishing what you want to accomplish are all powerful tools to make your subconscious mind aligned with your conscious desire.

Reflective Journal Exercise:

I want to invite you to please take some time to reflect on the following sequential questions around your motivation journey. If you can write it down you are welcome or perhaps just reflect where you are at.

Β· When last did you feel motivated and excited to work towards something?

Β· What about that time/situation made it motivating to you?

Β· What does this insight tell you about what and how you are motivated?

Β· What do you need to do more of or less of now, to have that motivation back in your life again?

Keeping this in mind will help give you the backbone onto which you can build in order for you to understand how to get to, or maintain your motivation.

FLOW questionnaire

Intrinsically motivating activities can be identified through the experience sampling method originally used by Csikszentmihalyi to identify the states of flow. The below questionnaire can help you understand how you allocate your attention throughout the day and if you spend a lot of time investing your energy effectively.

This should be done over at least a week but preferably two. Set your phone to prompt you during the day at random times to notice what you are doing and jot down the answers to the following questions.

Β· At this moment, what are you doing, and who are you with?

Β· How satisfied are you on a scale of 1 to 10?

Β· How much skill is needed for this activity? Choose one: no skills needed/some skills required/ a moderate amount of skills used/ had to stretch to do this activity

Β· Describe your level of motivation: doing this because you have nothing else to do/ doing this because I am told to/ doing this because I have to/ doing this because I want to

Β· How challenged are you by the activity on a scale of 1 to 10?

Β· How much are you concentrating on a scale of 1 to 10?

Reflective Journal Exercise:

Aim: to explore yourself, your beliefs, your ideas, your thoughts and feelings. Sometimes we hide things even from ourselves. Once again, these questions are a way to delve deeper into YOU and to raise your own awareness.

How: Use whatever method you choose. Write it down, doodle meaningful pictures, delve into your creative side! Create your own SPACE. Be as honest and vulnerable as you can, no-one needs to see your answers but you.

Β· Make a list of 5 positive qualities that you see yourself as having e.g. compassion, generosity, wit

Β· Look at each of these qualities and then describe what you see as the opposite to them e.g. cold, stingy, dull

Β· Vividly imagine a person who embodies the qualities in Q2 and write down your impressions. This forms your shadow self.

Β· Mindfully consider a situation where you felt upset and distressed by what someone did and said. What qualities were at the core of why you felt distressed?

Β· Ask yourself why these certain qualities bother you? What other qualities set off these triggers?

Β· In what way do you embody any of those distressing qualities?

Β· Take some time to get in touch with these qualities that you are trying to suppress? What might they be trying to tell you?

(NOTE: Once you accept the presence of qualities you have assigned as upsetting, distressing or bothersome, they begin to lose their power to fluster you!)

In this episode we will be delving into how we can start to let go of overthinking and instead start furthering our ability to pay attention in the present and cultivate the grounding attitude with four simple steps while also looking at gratitude. I will share some words of wisdom from my favorite mindfulness guru’s and take you through a guided meditation. Challenge: Today I would like to challenge you to add to your daily reflection journal, write down three things from your day today that you are grateful for. Try to be as specific as you can about what it is and why you feel grateful. If you continue with this practice, try to vary what you write every day as this has been shown as having a greater effect. Living unethically without thought to the consequences of our actions is a bit like consuming junk food. While it may taste good, in the end it leaves the body feeling malnourished and in a constant state of lack and longing. Our souls feel this, especially when we do not make value-based choices which lead to a diminishing of our spirits, and the dehumanization of our fellow human beings.

Healing takes place on multiple levels. When it comes to stress, one of the tools that has changed my life and millions of others is meditation. The mind, though it is a great tool, tends to tell us scary & limiting things. Meditation helps shut down the fight or flight response otherwise known as the β€˜fear’ response and stimulates the parasympathetic or relaxing nervous system of the body. This is what heals us. Meditation at the most basic level relieves stress. It is just as important as taking a bath, because it helps us purify our minds and our consciousness. Enjoy🌻
