The Knowing God podcast exists to help you know God through knowing His word. In this final episode, it is one more encouragement to pursue knowing God with your life. I discuss what it means to know God, how we have the ability to know God, and a final suggestion on pursuing knowing God. Check it out, and keep giving yourself to this pursuit.
Finally, the end. Check out this episode as we consider Paul's final words to the Colossian church. These words can be a great challenge and point of emphasis. In this episode, we end our study of Colossians by looking at Colossians 4:18.
If I have time in the Word by myself, is that enough? Why do I need a community built on the Word if I have quiet time and personal time in the Word? Paul's words in Colossians 4:15-17 point us to the reality that we need communities, and specifically community that is built on the Word.
God's design for us to live in community is written throughout all the Scriptures. And many times, it is our community that is an immense blessing and help in our lives. But community can also cause heartbreak. We consider both the help and heartbreak in God's community. Also, in this episode I give an update on the future of the podcast.
We once more read about the Colossian church planter, Epaphras. Paul highlights him and his love and work for the Colossians. But he also notes one of the more powerful images he gives in this section. We examine what it means and how that might change how we pray.
Where do we turn in our lowest moments? Specifically, where do we believe we can find comfort? In this episode, we look at how Paul shows that the community of God brings the comfort of God to the people of God.
Conviction. Belief. Prayer. Core elements to any genuine relational reconciliation. In this episode, we continue with 4 more aspects needed for working toward reconciliation.
Last episode we saw the example of Paul and Mark's reconciled relationship. But does God really do that now? And how does that happen. Today's episode is part 1 of looking at steps we can take toward reconciliation in our faith community.

If prayer is our first step in evangelism, it makes God the primary worker in evangelism. But, what is our responsibility then? If God is the one who does the work, what am I to do? In this episode we address what our role is in evangelism.

Colossians 3:17 is a crucial part of Paul's argument in this section, and the book as a whole. What does our union with Christ actually mean for our life? How much does Jesus impact my day-to-day? One of the hardest things for us to grasp is the greatness of God's glory, and the greatness of his grace. Isaiah 6 helps us to see a picture of both glory and grace, which is good news for us.
Can you imagine a leader who never fails, never steps out of leadership, and never uses power for selfish gain? God promises that one day would come the leader we need to bring us back to God and follow forever.
If all people have fallen into life without God, what will it take for us to come back to God? In Psalm 2, we see that we need God to send a leader. And this leader, will give us hope to life with God once again.
A great fear of ours is that we would be completely known by someone and then rejected. And if God knows all things, the depths of my heart, is there a way to be confident that he would still love me? Can I be sure somehow that God fully knows me and fully loves me still?
Have you ever had moments of life where you felt abandoned or alone? What is the hope we can hold on to in those moments? In the story of Job, we find hope amidst pain.
The Bible is incredibly clear on the power, majesty, and glory of God. But if God is all powerful, but not all loving, is that good? In this episode, we consider why we need a God who loves.
You were created to be with God. But now that I have sinned and caused separation from Him, is there any hope? What future does God promise for sinners like us?
What is my purpose in life? God actually tells us in the first chapter of the Bible what we were created for. Check out this episode as we look at why we exist.
All people fall short of God's perfect standard. We don't need to be a little better, we need a perfect substitute to do what we never could.

Of all the virutes Paul encourages us to put on, this is the most important. In fact, it holds all the rest of them together. In Colossians 3:14, he gives us the most pivotal virtue in any relationship.
Paul continues to encourage us to grow more like Jesus. But for what purpose? How does that help us in our communal life together? In this episode we see one way these virtues help our communities.

What flows from the heart of Jesus Christ? Paul encoruages us to model the heart of Christ by living out hearts of compassion.
Our goal in Christian growth is not to add random virtues to our life, but to put on Christ. Therefore, in order to mature in our faith, we must remind ourselves of Christ's identity that is united to us.
We can be tempted to think that behavior change in our life comes from will power or determination. Paul tells us it comes from identity. Check out this episode where we examine the power of identity in our Christian growth.

Paul encourages Christians to remember the sins we once lived in. Does he do this to bring about shame or condemnation? Or can our practice of remembering produce something greater in us?
The wrath of God is a motivator for Paul for holiness. He encourages Chrsitians in Colossians 3:6 to put to death immorality, because God's wrath is coming.

If that’s your question - Paul’s going to give you an answer in Colossians 2:4-5. In this episode, we look at how focusing on Christ allows us to stay firm in our faith.

In this episode, we talk about Colossians 1:25–26 and what it means to have stewardship from God.

“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church” —Colossians 1:24.
There are a number of confusing elements in this verse...
- Rejoicing in suffering?
- Filling up what is lacking in Christ?
- Doing this for the sake of the church?
We would argue that what can seem like a challenging, confusing verse can have a clear, helpful, applicable point for us today.
In this episode, we work through Colossians 1:24 and ask ourselves, "Is Christ sufficient enough for me that I am willing to suffer to portray His beauty to others?"
For some of us, we can theologically understand the stance that once we are saved, we are always saved... but if that is true, do we need to do anything in our Christian walk? What responsibility do we have? Do my works matter?
In this episode, we look at Colossians 1:23 and discuss what it means and looks like to endure to the end.
Over the last few episodes we've looked at the character of Christ—that He is Lord over Creation and Lord over New Creation, the church.
Now Paul shifts from looking at who Christ is to the application of what Christ's character means for us.
In this episode, we discuss Colossians 1:21–22 and ask ourselves how the supremacy of Jesus Christ impacts us individually.
The triune God is perfectly united. All three members never existing without the others. Always in a loving relationship together. And Jesus prays in John 17 we would be one as God is one. Yet, for most Christians that is rarely a felt reality. Throughout history, there has been division over theology, practice, music styles, philosophies, and much more. Is there any hope for reconciliation?
In this episode, we look at Colossians 1:20 and see the hope this verse provides in the midst of a divided world.
“For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” - Colossians 1:19
In this episode, we look at 3 reasons why the fullness of God dwelling in the person Jesus is such good news for us:
- We know the beauty of God’s condescension.
- We know God through Christ.
- We know that godliness comes from our union with Christ.
Like a body needs a head to function and live, so too the church needs Christ to function and live. In this episode, we look at Colossians 1:18 and remind ourselves to find our hope in Christ as the true leader of the church.
“And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” - Colossians 1:17
The Lord is holding everything together in our lives, and yet, we can act like that isn't true. We can think that the balance of lives is in our own control. In this episode, we discuss Colossians 1:17 and what it means that in Jesus, all things hold together.
"Who created the world? Was the Son of God involved?"
Colossians 1:16 says that all things were not only created by the Son of God, but ultimately for the Son of God. Therefore, we worship the Son of God above all things. In this episode, we dive into these thoughts and more.
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” - Colossians 1:15
In this episode, we examine the majesty of Jesus by asking ourselves, "What does it mean that Jesus is the image of God... and why does that enhance our worship of Him?" Join us as we work through these questions together.
Do the songs we sing matter? How much impact could our songs have on our spiritual lives? As we look at the most famous passage in Colossians, we see that the songs we sing are vitally important. Join us as we think through this together and look at Colossians 1:15-20.
[one final time, this is Paul’s prayer for us to be pleasing to the Lord in our life through…] “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:12-14
What do we have to be thankful for as Christians? Paul finishes his prayer for the church by reminding them of 3 aspects of the gospel that should always make Christians thankful to God.
Paul prays we walk in a way that pleases the Lord, by…] “being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;” - Colossians 1:11
We need strength from God for our life, but not just for the monumental moments. Paul says we need strength to be patient, to endure, and to have joy. Join us as we pray we might receive strength so that we might endure.
“so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him: bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;” - Colossians 1:10c
If we want to know God, we need to know truth about God. While theological knowledge is not the end of our pursuit of God, we cannot be in relationship with God without knowing truths about Him. This episode, Paul prays that we would learn theology and we explore this idea together.
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him: bearing fruit in every good work,” —Colossians 1:9-10b
What is the fruit of your life? Are you growing in good works and godliness? Paul prays that we may grow in our fruit of godliness by knowing God. Join us as we dive into this discussion together.

Learning about God is for a greater purpose. Learning Scripture is for a greater purpose. Growing in theological understanding is for a greater purpose... What is that purpose? "Walking in a manner worthy of the Lord."
In this episode, we discuss what it means to walk in a manner worthy of God.
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding," - Colossians 1:9b
We rely on the Holy Spirit to give us understanding about the gospel, God's will, and how we should live. This, is first and foremost what Paul prays for the Colossian church. Join us as we learn how to pray for God's will and understanding in our lives.
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you…” - Colossians 1:9a
What is the most common type of prayers that you pray? Think about your prayer life… what does it mostly consist of?
For many of us, I wonder if the bulk of our prayers are essentially asking God for the things we need. Or when crisis hits, that we tend to pray a bit more when we need God for something. Now please hear me clearly—God wants you to be dependent on Him and to pray to Him for all that you need in life. But the type of prayer that Paul shows us here is a little different. In these verses, Epaphrus is a church planter who is described as a "faithful servant" to the people. In this episode, we reflect on the blessing of being described as a "faithful servant" and ask ourselves if this is how we are described by people in our contexts.

The gospel today is growing. We want to practically be part of this movement, but that first begins with our eyes fully fixed on the gospel message.
