Socialist Alaska is a podcast hosted by Austin Reynolds and Michael Patterson, two Marxist-Leninist activists based in Anchorage covering the application of Marxist theory and organizing principles to the unique conditions of Alaska.
In this episode, Austin and Michael discuss capitalism's dependance on violence, art as an expression of capitalist oppression, and the recent wave of unionization efforts in the United States.
Many different subjects are discussed in this episode including : Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the history and circumstances that led to the invasion, NATO's aggression in the conflict, US Imperialism, and Alaska's geopolitical role in this situation as a heavily militarized colonial outpost of the United States. Other topics include the militarization of the Arctic, the importance of the Arctic in a world threatened by climate change, and the double standards and war mongering of US media.
Austin and Michael go over some of the basic components of Marxist theory such as class struggle and historical materialism, discuss their background and experience with organizing, the unique material conditions that exist in Alaska and how these conditions can be used to build socialism, as well as current events such as the campaign for the expulsion of David Eastman, a fascist member of the Alaska state house.
