Though the topics can sometimes be serious and even dark, I try to throw some light on them and have fun with them – hoping that you will enjoy your visit here with us.
Spontaneous combustion is a crazy topic! Before I started researching for this video, I had no idea what was out there on this, and the story is much more incredible than I could ever imagine!
Did you know that in 1725, a man was acquitted of murder based on the fact that a surgeon testified that the cause of death of the person he was expected to have killed died of spontaneous combustion?
Or that prohibitionist in the United States used spontaneous combustion as one of their arguments against alcohol?!
And the craziest thing I can think of with this is that in 2010 a person's cause of death in Ireland was officially written down on the coroner's report as due to spontaneous combustion!
There are a number of theories out there, and we'll take a look at them from the paranormal to the scientific, and of course we'll dig into some of the most interesting cases of spontaneous combustion.

We take a look at the paranormal case of Eleanor Zugun, an 11 year old Romanian girl who had paranormal experiences that began in 1925 and lasted for about two years.
The unique thing about Eleanor's case is that there are over 800 incidents that are documented as being observed by at least two people in addition to Eleanor.
Some of the witnesses were researchers such as psychiatrists, university professors, and physicists. Eleanor's experiences started with things flying off shelves around her but the escalated to her being physically attacked, bitten, and scratched.

Aleister Crowley was a man obsessed with the occult, sex magic, and black magic. He even named himself The Beast 666, and others called him the "Wickedest Man in the World."
His story takes us on a wild ride that includes battling demons in the African desert along with magical rituals and ceremonies, and even visions from Egyptian gods that led to him writing the bible for a religion that he would start. And there also is the death of one of his followers after a sacrifice during a black magic ritual.

We check the weirdest hijacking of a TV broadcast channel you can imagine. Someone wearing the 80s pop culture character, Max Headroom, interrupted 2 Chicago stations' broadcasts at two different times in one night. The person rambled on, talking over loud noises and static, and then things really got odd! And the TV station couldn't do anything to stop it!
We'll also check out another TV-hijacked broadcast. This time coming from "Vrillon, a representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command" from outer space who gives us all a concerning message about our future.

In this Halloween episode of House of the Curious, we explore a Haitian phenomenon: the reanimation of the dead through the use of voodoo!
We look into the story of Clairvius Narcisse, who, in 1962, was buried in a graveyard after he was officially pronounced dead by his medical doctor. The crazy thing is that 18 years later, Clairvius' sister watched him walk up to her while she was shopping in her local marketplace!
We'll also dig into one of the supernatural rituals some believe are used to bring a person back from death. And, as always here on House of the Curious, we also explore the scientific explanations behind Haitian zombies as we follow scientist Wade Davis, the author of "The Serpent and the Rainbow," as he visits Haiti in search of the mystical "zombie potion!"

It's October, time for haunted topics here on House of the Curious. In today’s episode, we look at the real-life inspirations behind three horror movies: A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Possession, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
Alfred Hitchcock said, “A glimpse into the world proves that horror is nothing other than reality.”
And that is exactly what we are digging into today. We’ll look at a mysterious syndrome that took insomnia to the next level, a haunted piece of furniture that caused chaos in the life of its owner, and a German exorcism that resulted in the two priests performing it to being found guilty of negligent homicide.
Today’s episode is all about superstitions. We’ll look at how they came to be and if there are any real benefits from believing in them. Then we will dig into some peculiar ones from Transylvania!
One of the most famous mysteries of Costa Rica is their solid stone spheres that can be up to 8 feet in diameter, which is huge considering that these were sculpted by hand with stone tools! We'll look at the story behind these spheres as well as a few other exciting tales from Costa Rica, such as the Esterillos mermaid and the folklore behind the Devil and the Costa Rican Oxcart. So whether you believe in the supernatural or just want to hear some exciting stories about Costa Rican folklore and culture, this episode is sure to be intriguing!

Or here is something that’s a little bit closer to today; a case in Ireland from December 2010 in which a coroner reported that a person's official cause of death was spontaneous combustion!
Now, most of us have heard of spontaneous human combustion, and some even believe it's caused by something paranormal or otherworldly. Others feel that there is a more scientific reason behind it.
Either way, the topic is an interesting and weird one! In this episode, we'll dig into spontaneous combustion and its odd characteristics, along with how it has impacted culture, and we'll check out some of the theories behind it. And, of course, we'll take a look at some of the cases where spontaneous combustion was thought to have occurred.
Today we dig into one topic that is interesting and quite frankly, a bit scary since it was a government-run operation. You may have heard about the CIA experimenting with LSD on unsuspecting people back in the 1950s and 60s. But have you heard of Operation Midnight Climax? We will take a look at LSD; touch on the basics of the top-secret project, MK-ULTRA; and dive into Subproject 42 of it, Operation Midnight Climax, which, as you will find out, is quite suitably named.
Today's main story weaves together details from a fictional tale by Edgar Allen Poe and a real-life event that occurred 46 years later. There are some fascinating similarities between them that will shock you including cannibalism to survive a devastating shipwreck.
We'll also look at a story about Yasuke, Japan's African samurai. He was an elite warrior who was the first non-Japanese person to achieve the status of samurai. His extraordinary story is even more interesting since he worked for one of the most powerful and historical lords in Japanese history!
We'll dig into to both stories, The Cannibal Coincidence and Yasuke, Japan's African Samurai on this episode of House of the Curious.
Our main story today is about a serial killer who terrorized New Orleans from 1918 to 1919. The weird part of this tale is how he addressed himself as a demon from hell in a letter he sent to a local paper.
Then we'll close out the episode with a topic that's a bit more light-hearted; we'll look at what inspired the tradition of the high five.
We'll dig into all of this on today's episode of House of the Curious.
Today we’ll look at 2 stories, both on the darker side but also very interesting! In our first story, we’ll take a look at Mexico City’s Island of Haunted Dolls. Then we will check out a story from England where in 2010, David Attenborough's contractors found a human skull on his land. The story behind the skull is a tale you won’t soon forget!
Our main story today is about a mysterious mountain in Australia known as the Black Mountain. We will look at why it is called “Australia’s Bermuda Triangle” and then check out some of the science behind its mysteries.
We’ll also look at a story about lightning. Specifically, we’ll dig into the story of Roy Cleveland Sullivan – a guy that was struck by lightning on 7 different occasions, actually 8 if you include an unconfirmed strike when he was a boy. His story ends in tragedy, but not from a lightning strike. As we will find out, there are drawbacks to being known as “the human lightning rod.”
Our main story today is about a man who conned people into buying the Eiffel Tower from him. This same guy escaped jail and even conned Al Capone! He also shared his 10 Golden Rules for a Con Job.
We also look at Aokigahara, Japan’s suicide forest and it’s history in today’s episode along with a story from 1922 in which a maid leaves her job because she feels the house is haunted! That choice saved her life!
This week we dig into the Mandela Effect, that's when a person or group believes that their distorted memories are accurate recollections. We also look into Siberia's Road of Bones. Our main story is about a girl who fell from an airplane, landed in the Amazon jungle, and survived 11 days alone. We'll also look at a story about a guy who survived being swallowed by a whale and why 13 and Friday the 13th are bad luck.
Imagine closing on your dream home, a 1.3 million dollar house in one of New Jersey’s best neighborhoods. Little did you know that you are being watched by someone… someone who writes to you saying that they were, “put in charge of watching and waiting for [the house’s] second coming.” Taking a dark turn, they talk of your kids and say, “Once I know their names I will call to them and draw them to me.” We’ll explore how one family’s dream home turned into a nightmare during today’s first story.
In our second story we look at Colorado’s Stanley Hotel, how it relates to Stephen King’s classic, “The Shining,” and some of the hauntings that people who visit the hotel say they’ve experienced.
We’ll dig into both stories, “The NJ Watcher” and “The Stanley Hotel” on today’s episode of House of the Curious.
Suspended animation is the slowing down or stopping of the body’s most basic biological functions for a prolonged period of time. Think of the movie Alien when the crew members were in the Hypersleep Chamber or the story of Sleeping Beauty where she is put to sleep for 100 years, and if Captain America is more your thing then recall him being frozen in a block of ice for all that time. Currently, science is looking at ways to put our bodies into this state for medical purposes and for long distance space travel. However, what happens when we declare someone dead while they are in this state of suspended animation… horror becomes a reality for those buried alive! We’ll will dig into all of this during today’s first story.
Have you heard of the news of the Japanese Killing Stone that cracked into 2 pieces, Well do you know about the legend behind the stone and why animals die by its side? We'll take a look at this during our second story.
We’ll dig into both stories, “Suspended Animation and Buried Alive” and “The Killing Stone and the Legend of the Demon” on today’s episode of House of the Curious.
In the mountains of North Carolina, there was a raging storm on the night of Feb 3, 1972. While the snow was piling up and the winds howled outside, a husband, wife, and their 18-year-old son were brutally murdered. This cold case broke when an author stopped by a sheriff’s office while researching for a book he was writing back in 2019. Our first story examines this case and some of the interesting details that surround it.
Our second story looks at the patron saint of Ireland, otherwise known as St. Patrick. What you may not know is that he had an interesting, and at times quite depressing life that included being kidnapped and enslaved.
We’ll dig into both stories, “Cracking a 47 Year Old Cold Case” and “The Enslavement and Life of Saint Patrick” on today’s episode of House of the Curious.
It’s February 1970 and you’re deep in the jungles of Vietnam in the middle of war. Night has fallen and the jungle has a blanket of silence covering it. Suddenly, your soul is shaken by the voices of the dead coming from all around, calling out to you in their tormented moans, groans, and cries for help – quivering your entire being with fear. We’ll dig into this military operation, and yup, that was a military operation, and we’ll dig into the elite US military force behind it, the Army’s Psychological Operations unit known as PSYOPS, during our first story of today’s episode.
Our second story takes place in 1935 and is one hell of a bizarre true crime cold case. Artemus Ogletree, who used the fictitious name, Roland T. Owen, was getting ready to travel the country with his friend, Joe Simpson. After saying goodbye to his mother, Artemus set off for an adventure of a lifetime, or so he thought. Instead of a fun-filled trip, he ended up getting murdered in what the Kansas City police chief called, an event that was "nearer to the perfect crime than any other murder Kansas City has seen.”
We’ll dig into both stories, “US PSYOPS and Operation Wandering Soul” and “The Bizarre Murder of Roland T. Owens” on today’s episode of House of the Curious.
Today’s 1st story is about a woman who was frozen solid for six hours while outside during a winter storm on a December night in Minnesota.
For our 2nd story, imagine an explosion with the power of 185 atomic bombs! Now, imagine that explosion being completely random – occurring at a random part of the earth and at a random time. Sounds like something out of a movie, right!? Well, in 1908, an explosion like this happened, and it was visible from over 500 miles away and impacted an area of over 800 sq mi!
