"There is one completed project work that I would like to promote for educational purposes - Refugio y Retorno: historias de una comunidad reasentada en El Salvador / Refuge and Return: Stories of a Resettled Community in El Salvador. The bilingual work contextualizes the exodus and repatriation of the community of Guarjila, El Salvador based on 10 oral histories. The work is also a platform to the experiences of 10 Salvadoran citizens who experienced the exodus and repatriation. Some topics include, principal causes of the Salvadoran war, refugee camp organization, refugee trauma and description of democratic practices post-war.
In the mid-2010s, a team of Guarjila community members interviewed the 10 community members. The experiences were captured in the form of oral interviews. In 2017, a group of California State University, Northridge students, under the guidance of Dr. Joseph Wiltberger PhD, constructed a platform for such experiences. In short, the project was completed in May 2022 and was presented to the Guarjila community in June 2022. Some of the Salvadoran Interviewees community members were present. The community of Guarjila expressed satisfaction at the stabilization of the memories and suggested locating the work within the platforms of academic institutions, scholars, and people of the world for amplification and for perpetuity. Please share Refugio y Retorno/Refuge and Return along with my story. Thank you!"
