Dr Dylan Lino is Senior Lecturer at the TC Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland, and was a member of the team that provided legal advice to the Uluru Dialogue.
Dylan spoke to us and took questions on what the Voice means for sovereignty, on why it comes first in the Voice Treaty Truth sequence, and how change to the constitution has historically led to further positive changes for First Nations peoples.
Dylan researches constitutional law, colonialism and imperialism, and in particular, the rights and status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within Australia's settler constitutional order. He is the author of "Constitutional recognition: First Peoples and the Australian settler state". (Sydney: Federation Press 2018). According to Bundjalung lawyer Dani Larkin, this book “provides an outstanding historical and theoretical account of ‘constitutional recognition’ and what it means for the first peoples of Australia.”
Dylan holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from UNSW, a Master of Laws from Harvard University and a PhD from the University of Melbourne.

Bernard Collaery is an Australian solicitor and barrister who specialises in litigation in high-profile catastrophic personal injury cases. He has acted for families of victims of the Thredbo landslide, the Royal Canberra Hospital demolition tragedy, the Glenbrook rail disaster in the Blue Mountains, the fire aboard HMAS Westralia and the tragic loss of an RAAF F1-11 in the South China Sea.
Throughout his career as a solicitor, advocate and politician Bernard has been a fearless advocate for human rights. During his tenure as Attorney-General for the Australian Capital Territory, he introduced an independent law reform process that culminated in the drafting of human rights legislation, including anti-discrimination legislation.
Bernard Collaery advised the East Timor Resistance for more than thirty years, providing advice on international law and other matters during the United Nations Transitional Administration from 1999. He acted for East Timor at the International Court of Justice in relation to a maritime sea boundary dispute with Australia.
Currently Bernard Collaery is patron and honorary solicitor of various charitable and non-profit organisations serving Indigenous Australians and marginalised sectors of the community.
He spoke with us about his book Oil Under Troubled Water - Australia’s Timor Sea Intrigue.

Bill Fletcher Jr is the executive editor of Global African Worker and the author of “They’re Bankrupting Us!": and Twenty Other Myths about Unions (2012).
Having been an activist since his teen years, upon graduating from college Bill went to work as a welder in a shipyard, thereby entering the labor movement. Over the years he has been active in workplace and community struggles as well as electoral campaigns. He has worked for several US labor unions in addition to serving as a senior staff member in the national peak body AFL-CIO.
Bill Fletcher is the former president of TransAfrica Forum, a Senior Scholar with the Institute for Policy Studies, an editorial board member of BlackCommentator.com, and involved the leadership of several other projects.
He is also the co-author (with Peter Agard) of The Indispensable Ally: Black Workers and the Formation of the Congress of Industrial Organizations, 1934-1941 (1987), and the co-author (with Dr. Fernando Gapasin) of Solidarity Divided: The crisis in organized labor and a new path toward social justice (2009). He has also published a mystery novel, The Man Who Fell from the Sky. About Jim Stanford
Dr. Jim Stanford is Economist and Director of the Centre for Future Work, based at the Australia Institute. He has served as the Director of the Centre since its founding in 2016.
Jim received his Ph.D. in Economics from the New School for Social Research in New York. He also holds an M.Phil. from Cambridge University, and a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Calgary.
Jim is the author of Economics for Everyone: A Short Guide to the Economics of Capitalism (second edition published by Pluto Books in 2015), which has been published in six languages. He has written, edited or co-edited five other books, and dozens of articles and reports in both peer-reviewed and popular outlets. Jim maintains an active presence on social media, with his Twitter (@jimbostanford) and Facebook (Jimbo Stanford) accounts.

Alison Tate (ITUC) and April Khaing (Burmese Australian activist) talk about the situation in Burma, why it matters to Australians, and what we can do about it.
Alison Tate is the Director of Economic and Social Policy of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), a body representing 207 million workers in 165 countries. Her policy work spans such areas as international trade and investment, social policy, and sustainable development. In her role at ITUC, she represents unions in bodies including the United Nations, the G20, and international financial institutions, and a Commissioner of the Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. She has been involved in advocacy on Burma since 1988.
April Khaing is the daughter of 88 Generation parents who took refuge in India, where she was born and later with the support of the Australian government they settled in Australia over a decade ago. She currently resides in the NT pursuing higher education. She has been actively participating in organising efforts for rallies and lobbying efforts as part of the campaign to condemn the military coup in Myanmar, voicing the concerns for her friends and family in Myanmar.

At the time of recording, in Nov 2021, Fiona Reynolds was Managing Director of the PRI, responsible to the board for the PRI’s global operations which includes more than 1350 signatories representing over US$45 trillion in assets under management, across 50 countries.
Fiona has more than 20 years’ experience in the pension sector working in particular with the Australian Government and has played a key role in advocating pension policy change on behalf of working Australians.
Fiona has a particular interest in retirement outcomes for women. Prior to joining PRI, Fiona spent seven years as the Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (“AIST”) an association for Australian asset owners. Fiona has formerly been a Director of AUSfund, Industry Funds Credit Control, Australia for UNHCR and the National Network of Women in Super.
In September 2012 she was named by the Australian Financial Review as one of Australia’s top 100 women of influence for her work in public policy. Fiona also serves on the Councils of the International Integrated Reporting.

About Neil Woods
Neil is a former UK police officer and undercover drugs operative. Now he’s an active member of the international drug policy reform movement. He worked undercover between 1993 and 2007 befriending and gaining the trust of some of the most violent, unpredictable criminals in Britain. With the insight that can only come from having fought on its front lines, Neil came to see the true futility of the War on Drugs - that it demonises those who need help, and empowers the very worst elements in society. Neil is a board member of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP) in the USA, and in the U.K. (LEAP UK). LEAP is a growing international organisation that advocates an evidence based drug policy and related criminal justice reforms. The group is made up entirely of serving and former police and other law enforcement. Restrictions permitting, he plans to visit Australia in 2022 to be part of efforts to revive the drug law reform debate in this country, as reformers campaign to match positive changes to drug laws already achieved in North America and Europe. Why is it so hard to talk about climate change?
While scientists double down on the shocking figures, we still find ourselves unable to discuss climate change meaningfully among friends and neighbours - or even to grapple with it ourselves.
The key to progress on climate change is in the psychology of human attitudes and our ability to change. Whether you're already alarmed and engaged with the issue, concerned but disengaged, a passive skeptic or an active denier, understanding our emotional reactions to climate change - why it makes us anxious, fearful, angry or detached - is critical to coping on an individual level and convincing each other to act.
This book is about understanding why people who aren't like you feel the way they do and learning to talk to them effectively. What we need are thousands - millions - of everyday conversations about the climate to enlarge the ranks of the concerned, engage the disengaged and persuade the cautious of the need for action.

Rebecca Huntley is one of Australia's most experienced social researchers and former director of The Mind and Mood Report, the longest running measure of the nation's attitudes and trends. She holds degrees in law and film studies and a PhD in gender studies, and is a mum to three young children. It was realising she is "part of the problem" that caused her to dedicate herself to researching our attitudes to climate change. She is a member of Al Gore's Climate Reality Corps, carries out social research for NGOs such as The Wilderness Society and WWF, and has written and presented for the ABC.

Revolutions are wrought from testing times and sparks that light the way ahead. These two books have evolved as international collaborations from contemporary social movements. One explains the background, activities, and political achievements and challenges for ‘degrowth’. The other analyses the eruption of mutual aid organisations across 18 countries and regions in the current pandemic. They are both anti-capitalist and imbued with transformational insights.
Degrowth is an holistic movement to decolonise our growth imaginaries and forge a future where everyone’s basic needs are met while respecting planetary limits. Spheres of degrowth activism include collective experimentation in self-provisioning and relocalising economies, protest and resistance, and decentralised horizontal networking around a degrowth project.
Grassroots mutual aid groups rallied in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that highlighted weaknesses in contemporary states and market economies. Acting with immediacy, self-sacrifice, bravery and compassion, organised resistance across the globe demonstrates values of a safer future built on solidarity economies and polities. These real-life stories have been recorded and written by the multiple voices of Colectiva Sembrar, edited by Marina Sitrin.

Vincent Liegey is an engineer, interdisciplinary researcher, spokesperson for both the French and international degrowth movements, and coordinates Cargonomia — a centre for research and experimentation on degrowth, a social cooperative for sustainable logistical solutions and local food distribution using cargo-bikes in Budapest.

**Why would a member of the luckiest generation in history join a communist party, and dedicate their lives to radical change?
As part of the celebrations for the 100 anniversary of the Communist Party of Australia in 2020, SEARCH members had the idea of asking Communist Party of Australia (CPA) members born after World War II - why they joined the CPA.**

Allira Davis is a proud Cobble Cobble woman from the Barrungum and Birrigubba nations of South-East Queensland, and also of South Sea Islander descent from Ambae and Tanna islands. Allira is the Co-chair and Manager for the Uluru Youth dialogues, which works closely with the grassroots Uluru Statement from the Heart movement and has focused largely on ensuring Indigenous youth voices are given a platform to be heard. She manages, builds and connects Uluru Youth in promoting and educating Australians on the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
Allira has also been active in campaigning for Voice - Treaty – Truth in the wider community, travelling across the country, speaking in the media and lobbying politicians.
