This wasn't how I imagined our second time around experiencing another miscarriage. I recorded this episode a week after we had our D&C, which was still a little raw and I was also on a business trip at Uluru while recording it. I wanted to share this experience because it was so different to our first one and was a much longer process from finding out to having the D&C. I hope that this Podcast can help you to feel like you aren't alone, as well a finding ways to support your mind, body and soul. After hearing so many stories from women about their loss and hearing how they felt going into their next pregnancy, I have found a lot of similarities. Feelings of anxiety, the stress and concern of potentially experiencing another loss some even not allowing the happiness or excitement to happen until the birth of their baby. I came across Amanda from Pregnancy Now who has over 30 years of experience as a registered midwife and nurse. With expertise in pregnancy and birth that extends from the normal to medically complex in today’s health care. I’m truly grateful that Amanda could share her insights as well as her knowledge of preparing for pregnancy again after experiencing a miscarriage or infant loss.

We chat about:

  • How to navigate the first trimester
  • Exploring thoughts and feelings about pregnancy
  • Triggers we might experience and how to move through them

You can find out more about Amanda’s packages and services available over on her website https://pregnancynow.com.au https://www.instagram.com/pregnancynow I hope that this Podcast can help you to feel like you aren't alone, as well as finding ways to support your mind, body and soul.

Sharna had been trying to conceive for 5 years and started to question her ability to be able to have a family which she always wanted. She went to see a fertility specialist and within a couple of months, found out they were pregnant. Being so unaware of what potentially could happen, they went in for an ultrasound and found no heartbeat. Playing the waiting game for her miscarriage to pass naturally where she ended up passing out with so much blood loss as well as experiencing contractions that ended with a trip to the hospital. With no support, or offers of a counsellor they were left to pick up the pieces and process the grief alone. Sharna shares how she turned her pain into her purpose after not having the support, and created an online program called Institute of healing through pregnancy loss and now supports women who have been through pregnancy loss and provides grief coaching. The program was built out of her own healing, and put into structured step by step programs that women can move through while supporting them in reconnecting with their future. Acknowledging where they were and what happened, but taking the steps forward, Sharna calls this “healing forward”.

You can find out more about Sharna’s Pregnancy loss recovery method and her self-paced online programs over on her Instagram or over on her website https://sharna-southan.mykajabi.com/

Sharon and her husband decided to start trying for a family at the age of 32 and fell pregnant pretty quickly, but soon after started to bleed and was the first miscarriage she experienced. They got the ok to try again and fell pregnant once again fairly quickly. It was coming up to the 12 week mark as they went in for their scan to discover there was no heart beat and unfortunately experienced their second miscarriage to which she was taken in on the same day to have a D&C. While having doubts about if her body would be able to carry a child, started guessing if it would ever happen. 6 months later they fell pregnant, and their first child was born via emergency c-section. Sharon experienced another 2 miscarriages, before falling pregnant again and welcomed their second child. They later welcomed their third child and that completed their family. Sharon had kept searching for answers to maybe find the answers to why she had so many miscarriages and found that she may have adenomyosis and the only way to solve her ongoing pain was to have a hysterectomy, which of the recording of this podcast was happening in just a few weeks time. Thank you for been brave and vulnerable in sharing your journey.

After having a successful pregnancy and welcoming their daughter with a normal pregnancy Shantel and her partner decided to start trying for their second. Falling pregnant happened pretty quickly until she started to experience spotting. Shantel was taken in for bloods to check her hormone levels and an ultrasound was done at 6 weeks to be told that she was going through an ectopic pregnancy which is where a fertilised egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus. After a month later they started trying again, and fell pregnant pretty quickly and made it to the 9 week blood test where everything seemed to be fine until she went in for an ultrasound on her own to double check on how things were going to find out that she had experienced a missed miscarriage.

Shantel & Lina have a Monthly Self-Care Box For Mums. Check out their beautiful business My Loxxi.

This was a huge eye opener for me discovering that I carry not just 1 but 2 mutations of the MTHFR Gene which means my body has a 50% reduction in producing folate. Finding this out helped bring some closure to possibly the reason behind our missed miscarriage and I'm so grateful that I discovered out Naturopath when we did to support my body and get it back on track.

I also openly share the anxiety that I was hit with once we entered lockdown and the choice I had to have the vaccination or not. Please note this is just my experience and my own journey. The choice is 100% yours.
