Take a mini-break from the crazy in the wildnerness as Moses and the Israelites have family visitors from Midian. It’s a gathering of those spread out by distance yet they share one faith born from one testimony of the true God and his kind deliverance. We too enjoy this togetherness by faith, even when we can’t be together by sight.

We’re back and it’s time to face the first warfare and hand-to-hand combat in the wilderness. And yet, this remains the same – that the Lord is the strength and cause for victory. Let us turn to him with uplifted hearts in prayer with such confidence in the Lord and worship him with thanksgiving that he has defeated our greatest enemies: sin, death and the devil!

So it’s a new day, a new place and there’s new thirst for the Israelites, but the old, evil grumbling returns. We discuss alternative options for what to do when thirsty and turn to God for the grace of forgiveness and the gift of contentment.

Just like each new day presents new challenges, so it was in desert life for the people of God. God was being a good shepherd who knew just what his sheep needed to learn. May we listen to his voice in the Bible that we remain under his gracious care and strength! And…what’s an omer, anyway?

These devotions have been very helpful for our family and our conversation about the coronavirus and other challenging parts of our lives. The Lord goes with us wherever we go and teaches us that we can trust him, for he is reliable and faithful to us.

This the day of deliverance as the people of God walk miraculously on dry ground through the Red Sea and the entire Egyptian army is defeated. In other words, “it is finished!” – the same smell of victory we have in Jesus.
